Starting from a cellular automaton model (CA) for general conditions on a freeway we come up with a formulation of an automaton to include the case of hindrances on a road. Investigation of our model results in a phase diagram introducing a new phase between laminar and jammed traffic. This phase is characterized by the spatial coexistence of behaviour known from the original model.  相似文献

We show that the spin-liquid phase of the half-filled Hubbard model on the triangular lattice can be described by a pure spin model. This is based on a high-order strong coupling expansion (up to order 12) using perturbative continuous unitary transformations. The resulting spin model is consistent with a transition from three-sublattice long-range magnetic order to an insulating spin-liquid phase, and with a jump of the double occupancy at the transition. Exact diagonalizations of both models show that the effective spin model is quantitatively accurate well into the spin-liquid phase, and a comparison with the Gutzwiller projected Fermi sea suggests a gapless spectrum and a spinon Fermi surface.  相似文献

The ground-state magnetic properties of the spin-2 transverse Ising model with a longitudinal crystal field are studied within the framework of mean-field theory (MFT) and effective-field theory (EFT), respectively. The phase diagrams and magnetization curves are examined in detail. It is found that the system exhibits a tricritical behavior in the ground-state phase diagrams. Some interesting phenomena have been found, especially the first-order phase transition from one ordered phase to the other ordered phase, which is due to the high spin. The spin correlation has important effect on the magnetic properties of the system. We also find that the ground-state phase diagrams of the spin-2 transverse Ising model are very different from those of the spin-3/2 transverse Ising model.  相似文献

We study phase transitions in the lattice version of the abelian Higgs model, a model which can exhibit both spontaneous symmetry breaking and confinement. When the Higgs charge is the basic U(1) unit, we find that the Higgs and confinement regions are not separated by a phase transition and form a single homogenous phase which we call the total screening phase. The model does not undergo a symmetry restoring phase transition at finite temperature.If the Higgs charge is some multiple of the basic unit the model follows the conventional wisdom: there are 3 phases (normal, Higgs and confinement) at zero temperature, two of which disappear above some critical point. We apply the lessons learned from the lattice Higgs model to understand the behavior of the weak interactions at high temperature.In a long appendix we give an intuitive physical picture for the Polyakov-Susskind quark liberating phase transition and show that it is related to the Hagedorn spectrum of a confining model. We end with a collection of effective field theory approximations to various lattice theories.  相似文献

A new method using magnetic resonance phase images for the assessment of trabecular bone structure has recently been proposed. To test this method, a mathematical model is developed which calculates the phase distribution in gradient echo acquired phase images of a structure of Pyrex glass rods immersed in a copper sulfate solution. Several experiments were performed using a phantom built in the same way as the structure used in the mathematical model. The results from the model are compared with those from the phantom tests, and the influence of resolution and bone area fraction on the phase dispersion is studied. The good correlation between theoretical and experimental results shows that phase variance increases with increasing resolution and bone density. However, the dependence of variance on bone density is less prominent for large pixel sizes.  相似文献

It is well known that the classical string on a two-sphere is more or less equivalent to the sine-Gordon model. We consider the non-abelian dual of the classical string on a two-sphere. We show that there is a projection map from the phase space of this model to the phase space of the sine-Gordon model. The corresponding Poisson structure of the sine-Gordon model is nonlocal with one integration.  相似文献

In this paper, an acoustic shear impedance model is employed to obtain a relation between the viscosity of a Newtonian fluid and phase characteristics of ultrasonic shear wave reflection from a solid-fluid interface. The phase and magnitude of the reflection coefficient can be decoupled in this model. The decoupling allows an independent relation between the acoustic shear impedance (viscosity-density product) and phase of the reflection coefficient. The model was experimentally verified for different fluid-solid combinations. Comparison of the results with the commonly used absolute reflection coefficient method demonstrates that phase measurement provides improved measurements.  相似文献

We present an improved analysis of the phase transitions in spin-triplet ferromagnetic superconductors within Ginzburg–Landau theory. We put special emphasis on the phase transitions from normal phase to the mixed phase of coexistence of ferromagnetism and unconventional superconductivity. We present a detailed analysis of the different phases that can occur and analyze the question under which conditions the phase transitions from normal phase to the mixed phase of coexistence of ferromagnetism and unconventional superconductivity are possible when compared to other phase transitions. The conditions for the phase transitions and the stability conditions are calculated. On the basis of this model, it is argued that the transition from normal phase to the mixed phase of coexistence is always of first order. It was observed from the theoretical calculations that the transition from the ferromagnetic phase to the coexistence phase can cross over from the first to the second order at the tricritical point.  相似文献

The conductivity of the two-dimensional Rayleigh model near a critical point, the percolation threshold, is investigated. The effective conductivity of the model with a metal–prefect conductor phase transition is calculated in the binary (pair) approximation. For the alternative model with a metal–insulator phase transition the corresponding effective conductivity is determined from the Keller–Dykhne reciprocity relation.  相似文献

The dynamics of the strong coupling BCS model, considered as an open system interacting with a thermal bath, is solved rigorously and explicitly in the weak coupling limit and in the infinite-volume limit. The BCS system goes from the normal phase to the ordered phase by bifurcation. Fluctuations around trajectories of intensive observables are Gaussian and Markovian. Thermodynamic phases are global attractors in the physical domain. Structural stability is discussed. The model provides an example of a nonequilibrium statistical mechanical system with phase transition whose irreversible macroscopic dynamics can be calculated exactly from the underlying Hamiltonian quantum mechanics.  相似文献

This work deals with the modeling of high pressure mercury lamp positive column thermalization. Because of the important pressure variation during the start-up phase, the discharge properties change fundamentally before the steady state is reached. For this reason the corresponding pressure range is split into three phases, namely the low pressure, intermediate and high pressure phases, in which interesting simplifications of the simulation can be obtained. A self-consistent collisional-radiative model is used to simulate the first phase. In the second, the model has been modified in order to include the significant reactions of this phase. Finally a LTE model describes the high pressure phase. Partial validation of the models are obtained from the study of the warm-up of a mercury lamp supplied under DC conditions. The results obtained are in good agreement with literature experimental data and, furthermore, allow the discussion of the validity limits for each model  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the non-equilibrium dynamical phases of the two-atom Dicke model, which can be realized in a two species Bose–Einstein condensate interacting with a single light mode in an optical cavity. Apart from the usual non-equilibrium normal and inverted phases, a non-equilibrium mixed phase is possible which is a combination of normal and inverted phase. A new kind of dynamical phase transition is predicted from non-superradiant mixed phase to the superradiant phase which can be achieved by tuning the two different atom–photon couplings. We also show that a dynamical phase transition from the non-superradiant mixed phase to the superradiant phase is forbidden for certain values of the two atom–photon coupling strengths.  相似文献

Motivated by the global phase diagram of antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion metals, we study the Kondo effect from the perspective of a nonlinear sigma model in the one-dimensional Kondo-Heisenberg model away from half-filling. We focus on the effects of the instanton configurations of the sigma-model field and the associated Berry phase. Guided by the results derived using bosonization methods, we demonstrate that the Kondo-singlet formation is accompanied by an emergent Berry phase. This Berry phase also captures the competition between the Kondo-singlet formation and spin-Peierls correlations. Related effects are likely to be realized in Kondo lattice systems in higher dimensions.  相似文献

We propose a model describing liquid-solid phase coexistence in mixed lipid membranes by including explicitly the occurrence of a rippled phase. For a single component membrane, we employ a previous model in which the membrane thickness is used as an order parameter. As function of temperature, this model properly accounts for the phase behavior of the three possible membrane phases: solid, liquid and the rippled phase. Our primary aim is to explore extensions of this model to binary lipid mixtures by considering the composition dependence of important model parameters. The obtained phase diagrams show various liquid, solid and rippled phase coexistence regions, and are in quantitative agreement with the experimental ones for some specific lipid mixtures.  相似文献

应用Shan提出的伪势多相模型替代R-K着色模型,建立一种新的描述气液相变过程的格子Boltzmann理论模型,模拟蒸发(高密度转化为低密度)过程.改进了计算效率,且得到较好的计算结果.同时应用该模型从孔隙尺度模拟了多孔介质中的相变现象,验证了该模型模拟复杂相变问题的可行性.  相似文献

The phase diagram for quark matter is investigated within a simple Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model without vector correlations. It is found that the phase structure in the temperature-density plane depends sensitively on the parametrization of the model. We present two schemes of parametrization of the model where, within the first one, a first-order phase transition from a phase with broken chiral symmetry to a color superconducting phase for temperatures below the triple point at T t = 55 MeV occurs, whereas for the second one a second-order phase transition for temperatures below T t = 7 MeV is found. In the latter case, there is also a coexistence phase of broken chiral symmetry with color superconductivity, which is a new finding within this class of models. Possible consequences for the phenomenology of the QCD phase transition at high baryon densities are discussed. We discuss three applications of NJL- and PNJL-like models to assess aspects of the QCD phase diagram: First, we study the effect of mesonic correlations on the pressure below and above the finite temperature phase transition within a non-local PNJL model beyond the mean-field approximation. Second, we reconstruct the phase boundary of an NJL model from a Taylor expansion of the chiral susceptibility about μ=0 and compare the result with the exact phase boundary. Finally, we demonstrate the realization of the “non-standard scenario” for the critical surface in a three-flavor PNJL model with a μ-dependent determinant interaction.  相似文献

A phenomenological analysis of the magnetic and structural phase states observed in the manganese arsenide-based alloys over a wide range of temperatures and pressures has been performed. The unique first-order phase transitions from the paramagnetic and metamagnetic states to the ferromagnetic state are studied experimentally. It is found that these transitions exhibit characteristic features associated with the magnetostriction suppression of nucleation when the lability boundary of the paramagnetic phase is absent and the transition from the metamagnetic state is not thermodynamically “forbidden.” The phase behavior of manganese arsenide-based alloys is interpreted within the proposed model. This model accounts for the interrelation of the magnetic, structural, and elastic properties of alloys and also the specific features of phase transformations in real crystals.  相似文献
