Abstract

The propagation of gaussian beams through parabolic index optical waveguides having random irregularities in the dielectric constant gradient has been studied. For fundamental mode propagation, the perturbation approach has been employed and an analytic expression for the loss of power from the fundamental mode has been obtained. For an incident gaussian beam with arbitrary width, geometrical optics approximation has been used and an exact analytical expression for the average value of the beamwidth has been derived for a particular random process, namely, the dichotomic Markov process. The fluctuations in the beamwidth have also been calculated.  相似文献

The problem of rectangular waveguide with nonlinear dielectrics is discussed. The components of electromagnetic fields in the waveguide satisfy nonlinear partial differential equations. Using slowly varying envelope approximation, they can become well known nonlinear Schrodinger equation and soliton solution is got from the equation.  相似文献

Pulsed beam propagation at nonlinear ion-exchange waveguides has been analysed. Critical values of input power and film thickness to obtain emission and excitation of nonlinear surface pulses have been calculated by means of a variational approach in the dispersionless approximation. The analytical expressions obtained can be used as a qualitative guide for deeper computational exploration of the propagation problem and show a good agreement with the numerical simulations presented.  相似文献

We study the propagation parameters (attenuation and phase shift) of electromagnetic waves in the frequency range 75–110 GHz in dielectric waveguides made of high-resistivity gallium arsenide and silicon, as well as in double-layer n-i and p-n structures based on them. The appearance of new modes is revealed in the case where the vector of the electric field is perpendicular to the interface between the layers, which is related to the presence of the potential barrier and the corresponding charge capacitance. The mode transformation can be used to generate high harmonics (due to the varactor effect) and to monitor the uniformity and the influence of external factors on the properties of dielectric waveguides in the integrated circuits of the millimeter-wavelength range.  相似文献

从电磁场理论出发对负折射材料填充的3层平板波导的传播特性进行研究,并进行了数值计算,分析TE和TM波在平板中传播的性质,得到了电磁波的模式方程,与电磁波在右手材料填充的平板波导中的传播特性做了对比,考察了TE模式的能流密度,进行了归一化计算。结果分析表明:基模、一阶模不存在,且任何模式都存在一个截止厚度,随着厚度的增大,模式数量也增多;在一定的入射频率下,平板薄膜厚度趋向一定数值时,可以同时传播多种模式的波,并且入射波频率越高,波导同时存在多种模式的可能性越大;与右手材料相比,左手材料填充相同尺寸的3层平板波导可以传播更高能量的电磁波,导波效果更好。  相似文献

The propagation characteristics of TE waves guided by a film with a Kerr-like nonlinear permittivity are investigated theoretically. The dispersion equations for positive and negative nonlinear coefficients are derived by introducing the maximum field amplitude as a parameter for the nonlinearity. Typical numerical results for dispersion characteristics are shown. For a hollow waveguide with positive nonlinear coefficient, the threshold power flow is determined numericlly from the viewpoint of applications to optical power clipping. It is found that the threshold power flow is proportional to the square root of the unperturbed permittivity difference between the film, and cladding.  相似文献

A parabolic index dispersion decreasing fiber (DDF) has been designed and optimized to produce high capacity soliton communication system. Variation of different fiber parameters such as core radius, effective core area and GVD factor along the 25 km of DDF length has been carried out to optimize a best possible DDF which can sustain the propagation of fundamental soliton. The variation of non-linearity with length along with the conventional power and GVD factor variation has been included in the generalized non-linear Schrodinger equation (NLSE). This NLSE has been solved numerically by split step Fourier method for shorter pulse propagation, incorporating the term for third order dispersion and intrapulse Raman scattering. Stable soliton pulses in transmission system have been achieved by our simulation, when a correction factor due to Raman induced soliton mean frequency shift is incorporated to the GVD profile predicted by the fundamental soliton condition. The interaction of neighboring soliton pulse pair through the proposed fiber has also been studied.  相似文献

A rigorous classical analytic frequency domain model of confined optical wave propagation along 2D bent slab waveguides and curved dielectric interfaces is investigated, based on a piecewise ansatz for bend mode profiles in terms of Bessel and Hankel functions. This approach provides a clear picture of the behaviour of bend modes, concerning their decay for large radial arguments or effects of varying bend radius. Fast and accurate routines are required to evaluate Bessel functions with large complex orders and large arguments. Our implementation enabled detailed studies of bent waveguide properties, including higher order bend modes and whispering gallery modes, their interference patterns, and issues related to bend mode normalization and orthogonality properties.  相似文献

The negative index of refraction of nonlinear chemical waves has become a recent focus in nonlinear dynamics researches. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations have predicted that the negative index of refraction can occur on the interface between antiwaves and normal waves in a reaction-diffusion (RD) system. However, no experimental evidence has been found so far. In this Letter, we report our experimental design in searching for such a phenomenon in a chlorite-iodide-malonic acid (CIMA) reaction. Our experimental results demonstrate that competition between waves and antiwaves at their interface determines the fate of the wave interaction. The negative index of refraction was only observed when the oscillation frequency of a normal wave is significantly smaller than that of the antiwave. All experimental results were supported by simulations using the Lengyel-Epstein RD model which describes the CIMA reaction-diffusion system.  相似文献

An exact solution of Maxwell's equations is found for TM-polarized nonlinear guided waves which are guided by a linear dielectric slab embedded between two nonlinear uniaxial media. Additional waves in comparison with the linear case arise. Some of these waves have no counterpart in linear systems. Similarities and differences with respect to TE-polarized nonlinear guided waves are pointed out.  相似文献

We consider dispersion relations and field structure of TE-polarized guided waves travelling along an asymmetric dielectric slab surrounded by two different nonlinear media. For a given configuration there are four types of guided waves. Three of this four types possess at least one field maximum outside the slab region and have no counterpart in linear waveguide optics. The solutions of the dispersion relations depend now on an additional parameter making them more flexible with respect to the linear limit.  相似文献

We investigate the properties of arc plasmonic waveguide coupler between two-dimensional dielectric slab waveguides and plasmonic waveguides with two-dimensional finite difference time domain methods. The simulation results show that transmission efficiency between high index dielectric slab waveguides with width 300 nm and silver-air-silver waveguides with width 40 nm connected by the coupler can reach to 90.4% at optical communication wavelength. And, by optimizing the shapes near the ends of the coupler, the transmission efficiency can be improved to 98.4%.  相似文献

Propagation of electromagnetic waves in an elliptic waveguide filled with plasma is investigated in elliptic co-ordinates. Dispersion relations for the natural modes of oscillation are obtained. Expressions for power transmitted along the waveguide are obtained as integrals of Mathieu functions. Dispersion relations for circular waveguides are also obtained as limiting cases.One of the authors (S. K. A simplified mathematical model of two-dimensionally(2D) periodic thin-film wavegmide is proposed and the characteristics of wave propagation are shown to be governed by a five-term recurrence relation with dyadic admittance coefficients. The generalized transverse resonance method can be used to analyze any complicated 2D periodic thin-film waveguide. The dispersion characteristics are described by both approximation analysis and numerical calculation. The theoretical explanation and physical understanding of the effecis of 2D periodic modulation provided by our analysis and resulis can give sound support to the engineering applications.  相似文献
