Optical fibers are seen in the optical sensing and optical fiber communication. Simultaneous propagation of optical pulses in an inhomogeneous optical fiber is described by a coupled time-dependent coefficient fourth-order nonlinear Schr?dinger system, which is discussed in this paper. For such a system, we work out the Lax pair, Darboux transformation, and corresponding vector semi-rational nonautonomous rogue wave solutions. When the group velocity dispersion(GVD) and fourth-order dispersion(FOD) coefficients are the constants, we exhibit the first-and second-order vector semirational rogue waves which are composed of the four-petalled rogue waves and eye-shaped breathers. Both the width of the rogue wave along the time axis and temporal separation between the adjacent peaks of the breather decrease with the GVD coefficient or FOD coefficient. With the GVD and FOD coefficients as the linear, cosine, and exponential functions, we respectively present the first-and second-order periodic vector semi-rational rogue waves, first-and second-order asymmetry vector semi-rational rogue waves, and interactions between the eye-shaped breathers and the composite rogue waves.

We study the generalized Darboux transformation to the three-component coupled nonlinear Schr ¨odinger equation.First-and second-order localized waves are obtained by this technique. In first-order localized wave,we get the interactional solutions between first-order rogue wave and one-dark,one-bright soliton respectively.Meanwhile, the interactional solutions between one-breather and first-order rogue wave are also given. In second-order localized wave,one-dark-one-bright soliton together with second-order rogue wave is presented in the first component, and two-bright soliton together with second-order rogue wave are gained respectively in the other two components.Besides,we observe second-order rogue wave together with one-breather in three components. Moreover,by increasing the absolute values of two free parameters, the nonlinear waves merge with each other distinctly. These results further reveal the interesting dynamic structures of localized waves in the three-component coupled system.

We study some novel patterns of rogue wave in the coupled cubic-quintic nonlinear Schr?dinger equations.Utilizing the generalized Darboux transformation, the higher-order rogue wave pairs of the coupled system are generated.Especially, the first-and second-order rogue wave pairs are discussed in detail. It demonstrates that two classical fundamental rogue waves can be emerged from the first-order case and four or six classical fundamental rogue waves from the second-order case. In the second-order rogue wave solution, the distribution structures can be in triangle, quadrilateral and ring shapes by fixing appropriate values of the free parameters. In contrast to single-component systems, there are always more abundant rogue wave structures in multi-component ones. It is shown that the two higher-order nonlinear coefficients ρ_1 and ρ_2 make some skews of the rogue waves.

Based on the long wave limit method, the general form of the second-order and third-order rogue wave solutions to the focusing nonlinear Schr?dinger equation are given by introducing some arbitrary parameters. The interaction solutions between the first-order rogue wave and one-breather wave are constructed by taking a long wave limit on the two-breather solutions. By applying the same method to the three-breather solutions, two types of interaction solutions are obtained, namely the first-order...

Higher-order localized waves in coupled nonlinear Schr6dinger equations are investigated by the generalized Darboux transformation. We show that two dark-bright solitons together with a second-order rogue wave of fundamental or triangular pattern and two breathers together with a second-order rogue wave of fundamentM or triangular pattern coexist in the second-order localized wave for the coupled system. Moreover, by increasing the value of one free parameter, the nonlinear waves in the second-order localized wave can merge with each other. The results further reveal the abundant dynamic behaviors of localized waves in coupled systems.

In this paper, we provide determinant representation of the n-th order rogue wave solutions for a higherorder nonlinear Schr¨odinger equation(HONLS) by the Darboux transformation and confirm the decomposition rule of the rogue wave solutions up to fourth-order. These solutions have two parameters α and β which denote the contribution of the higher-order terms(dispersions and nonlinear effects) included in the HONLS equation. Two localized properties, i.e.,length and width of the first-order rogue wave solution are expressed by above two parameters, which show analytically a remarkable influence of higher-order terms on the rogue wave. Moreover, profiles of the higher-order rogue wave solutions demonstrate graphically a strong compression effect along t-direction given by higher-order terms.

The nonlinear Schr?dinger(NLS) equation and Boussinesq equation are two very important integrable equations. They have widely physical applications. In this paper, we investigate a nonlinear system, which is the two-component NLS equation coupled to the Boussinesq equation. We obtain the bright–bright, bright–dark, and dark–dark soliton solutions to the nonlinear system. We discuss the collision between two solitons. We observe that the collision of bright–bright soliton is inelastic and two solitons oscillating periodically can happen in the two parallel-traveling bright–bright or bright–dark soliton solution. The general breather and rogue wave solutions are also given. Our results show again that there are more abundant dynamical properties for multi-component nonlinear systems.

In this paper, the(3+1)-dimensional generalized B-type Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation for water waves is investigated. Through the Hirota method and Kadomtsev–Petviashvili hierarchy reduction, we obtain the first-order,higher-order, multiple rogue waves and lump solitons based on the solutions in terms of the Gramian. The first-order rogue waves are the line rogue waves which arise from the constant background and then disappear into the constant background again, while the first-order lump solitons propagate stably. Interactions among several first-order rogue waves which are described by the multiple rogue waves are presented. Elastic interactions of several first-order lump solitons are also presented. We find that the higher-order rogue waves and lump solitons can be treated as the superpositions of several first-order ones, while the interaction between the second-order lump solitons is inelastic.

By symbolic computation and a direct method, this paper presents some exact analytical solutions of the one-dimensional generalized inhomogeneous higher-order nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with variable coefficients, which include bright solitons, dark solitons, combined solitary wave solutions, dromions, dispersion-managed solitons, etc. The abundant structure of these solutions are shown by some interesting figures with computer simulation.

We use the 1-fold Darboux transformation (DT) of an inhomogeneous nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation (INLSE) to construct the deformed-soliton, breather, and rogue wave solutions explicitly. Furthermore, the obtained first-order deformed rogue wave solution, which is derived from the deformed breather solution through the Taylor expansion, is different from the known rogue wave solution of the nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation (NLSE). The effect of inhomogeneity is fully reflected in the variable height of the deformed soliton and the curved background of the deformed breather and rogue wave. By suitably adjusting the physical parameter, we show that a desired shape of the rogue wave can be generated. In particular, the newly constructed rogue wave can be reduced to the corresponding rogue wave of the nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation under a suitable parametric condition.

Fokas system is the simplest (2+1)-dimensional extension of the nonlinear Schr?dinger (NLS) equation (Eq.(2), Inverse Problems 10 (1994) L19-L22).By appropriately limiting on soliton solutions generated by the Hirota bilinear method, the explicit forms of $n$-th breathers and semi-rational solutions for the Fokas system are derived. The obtained first-order breather exhibits arange of interesting dynamics. For high-order breather, it has more rich dynamical behaviors. The first-order and the second-order breather solutions are given graphically. Using the long wave limit in soliton solutions, rational solutions are obtained, which are used to analyze the mechanism of the rogue wave and lump respectively.By taking a long waves limit of a part of exponential functions in $f$ and $g$ appeared in the bilinear form of the Fokas system, many interesting hybrid solutions are constructed. The hybrid solutions illustrate various superposed wave structures involving rogue waves, lumps, solitons, and periodic line waves. Their rather complicated dynamics are revealed.

In this paper, we investigate a generalized nonautonomous nonlinear equation which describes the ultrashort optical pulse propagating in a nonlinear inhomogeneous fiber. By virtue of the generalized Darboux transformation, the first- and second-order rogue-wave solutions for the generalized nonautonomous nonlinear equation are obtained, under some variable–coefficient constraints. Properties of the first- and second-order rogue waves are graphically presented and analyzed: When the coefficients are all chosen as the constants, we can observe the some functions, the shapes of wave crests and troughs for the first- and second-order rogue waves change. Oscillating behaviors of the first- and second-order rogue waves are observed when the coefficients are the trigonometric functions.

In this Letter, the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (GNLS) equation is investigated by Darboux matrix method. A generalized Darboux transformation (DT) of the GNLS equation is constructed with the help of the gauge transformation for an Ablowitz–Kaup–Newell–Segur (AKNS) type GNLS spectral problem, from which a unified formula of Nth-order rogue wave solution to the GNLS equation is given. In particular, the first and second-order rogue wave solutions to the GNLS equation are explicitly illustrated through some figures.

By virtue of the bilinear method and the KP hierarchy reduction technique, exact explicit rational solutions of the multicomponent Mel’nikov equation and the multicomponent Schrödinger–Boussinesq equation are constructed, which contain multicomponent short waves and single-component long wave. For the multicomponent Mel’nikov equation, the fundamental rational solutions possess two different behaviours: lump and rogue wave. It is shown that the fundamental (simplest) rogue waves are line localised waves which arise from the constant background with a line profile and then disappear into the constant background again. The fundamental line rogue waves can be classified into three: bright, intermediate and dark line rogue waves. Two subclasses of non-fundamental rogue waves, i.e., multirogue waves and higher-order rogue waves are discussed. The multirogue waves describe interaction of several fundamental line rogue waves, in which interesting wave patterns appear in the intermediate time. Higher-order rogue waves exhibit dynamic behaviours that the wave structures start from lump and then retreat back to it. Moreover, by taking the parameter constraints further, general higher-order rogue wave solutions for the multicomponent Schrödinger–Boussinesq system are generated.
