The elegant approach of in situ deposition technique was used for the synthesis of nano CaCO3. the nanosize of particles was confirmed by the X‐ray diffraction (XRD) technique. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used for determination of the enthalpy. The nano CaCO3 polypropylene (PP) composites were prepared by taking 2 and 10 wt % of different nanosizes (21–39 nm) of CaCO3. Conversion of the α phase to β was observed in the case of 2 wt % of a 30‐nm sized amount of CaCO3 in a PP composite. The decrement in ΔH and percent crystallinity, as well as the increment in melt temperature were recorded for 6 wt % nano CaCO3 with a decrease in nanosize from 39 to 21 nm. The increment in tensile strength with an increase in the amount of nano CaCO3 was observed, and the lower particle size showed greater improvement. The improvement in thermal and mechanical properties is because of the formation of a greater number of small spherulites uniformly present in the PP matrix. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The microstructure, impact strength, and rheological properties of blends consisting of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) and maleated poly (ethylene‐octene) (POEg) and/or calcium carbonate (CaCO3) were investigated. The improvement of impact strength of HDPE/POEg was limited due to the high miscibility between them. The introduction of CaCO3 had a negative impact on the toughness of the matrix because of the poor interfacial adhesion. In ternary blends of HDPE/POEg/CaCO3, an elastomer layer was formed around CaCO3 particles due to the strong interaction between POEg and CaCO3, which improves the HDPE‐CaCO3 interfacial strength and the toughness of the blends. A significant enhancement of dynamic viscosity, storage modulus, and the low‐shear viscosity were observed as the results of the high miscibility of HDPE with POEg and strong interaction between POEg and CaCO3. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phase structure of composite polypropylene (PP)/ethylene–propylene–rubber (EPR)/coated nano‐CaCO3 composites, used in the manufacture of bumpers, with and without compatibilizers has been investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) mechanical tests, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Blends of various compositions were prepared using a corotating twin‐screw extruder. The experimental results indicated that the dispersion of nanoparticles in (PP/EPR) depends on their surface (stearic acid and fatty acid coatings). In both cases, the final morphology is the core–shell structure in which EPR acts as the shell part encapsulating coated nano‐CaCO3. In this case, EPR‐g‐MAH copolymer does not improve the interface between (PP/EPR) and nanoparticles but PEP propylene ethylene copolymer should be preferentially localized at the interface of PP and (EPR/nano‐CaCO3) phases generating an improved adherence, which will ensure a better cohesion of the whole material. According to the nature of the compatibilizers and surface treatment, it is believed that the synergistic effect of both the EPR elastomer and CaCO3 nanoparticles should account for the balanced performance of the ternary composites. Polypropylene‐low density polyethylene (PP‐LDPE) blends involving PP‐LDPE (90/10 wt%.) with (0.06 wt%) dialkyl peroxide (DAP) and different amounts (5, 10, 20 wt%) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) were prepared by melt‐blending with a single‐screw extruder. The effect of addition of CaCO3 on thermal decomposition process and kinetic parameters, such as activation energy and pre‐exponential factor of PP‐LDPE blend with DAP matrix, was studied. The kinetics of the thermal degradation of composites was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis in dynamic nitrogen atmosphere at different heating rates. TG curves showed that the thermal decomposition of composites occurred in one weight‐loss stage. The apparent activation energies of thermal decomposition for composites, as determined by the Tang method (TM), the Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose method (KAS), the Flynn–Wall–Ozawa method (FWO), and the Coats–Redfern (CR) method were 156.6, 156.0, 159.8, and 167.7 kJ.mol?1 for the thermal decomposition of composite with 5 wt% CaCO3, 191.5, 190.8, 193.1, and 196.8 kJ.mol?1 for the thermal decomposition of composite with 10 wt% CaCO3, and 206.3, 206.1, 207.5, and 203.8 kJ mol?1 for the thermal decomposition of composite with 20 wt% CaCO3, respectively. The most likely decomposition process for weight‐loss stages of composites with CaCO3 content 5 and 10 wt% was an An sigmoidal type. However, the most likely decomposition process for composite with CaCO3 content 20 wt% was an Rn contracted geometry shape type in terms of the CR and master plots results. It was also found that the thermal stability, activation energy, and thermal decomposition process were changed with the increase in the CaCO3 filler weight in composite structure. CaCO3/polystyrene inorganic/organic composite nanoparticles (50 nm) with a core/shell structure were synthesized in 80% yield by emulsion polymerization. Nanometer CaCO3 was pretreated with γ‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane in order to introduce polymerizable groups onto its surface. Soxhlet extraction experiments have shown that only 4% of total encapsulating polystyrene (PS) was removable when the ratio of CaCO3 to styrene was relatively low (14.8–29.6%), indicating strong adhesion between CaCO3 and PS.  相似文献

Photo‐oxidative degradation of treated and untreated nano CaCO3: silicone rubber composite was studied under accelerated UV irradiation (≥290 nm) at different time intervals. Prolonged exposure to UV leads to a progressive decrease in mechanical and physical properties along with the change in behavior of filler‐matrix interaction. This was due to decrease in cross‐linking density with increase in mobility of rubber chains. Meanwhile, synthesized nano CaCO3 was modified with stearic acid for uniform dispersion in rubber matrix. The increase in carbonyl (>CO), hydroxyl (? OH), CO2, and alkene functional groups on the UV exposed surface of treated and untreated nano CaCO3: silicone rubber composites at different time intervals was studied using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The change in morphological behavior of filler‐matrix interaction after UV exposure was studied using SEM. Overall, the study showed that the treated nano CaCO3: silicone composites were affected more by UV exposure than untreated nano CaCO3: silicone composites and pristine composite after UV exposure. This effect was due to peeling of stearic acid from the surface of CaCO3, which makes the rubber chains slippery and thus separation of filler and rubber chains takes place with initiation of fast‐degradation. A novel method to prepare organic/inorganic composite particles, i.e. poly(methyl methacrylate)/CaCO3/SiO2 three-component composite particles, using emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate with sodium lauryl sulfate as a surfactant in an aqueous medium was reported. CaCO3/SiO2 two-component inorganic composite particles were obtained firstly by the reaction between Na2CO3 and CaCl2 in porous silica (submicrometer size) aqueous sol and the specific surface area of the particles was measured by the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method. The results show that the BET specific surface area of the CaCO3/SiO2 composite particle is much smaller than that of the silica particle, indicating that CaCO3 particles were adsorbed by porous silica and that two-component inorganic composite particles were formed. Before copolymerization with methyl methacrylate, the inorganic composite particles were coated with a modifying agent through covalent attachment. The chemical structures of the poly(methyl methacrylate)/CaCO3/SiO2 composite particles obtained were characterized by Fourier transform IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results show that the surface of the modified inorganic particles is grafted by the methyl methacrylate molecules and that the grafting percentage is about 15.2%.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of addition Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) filler component on solid state thermal decomposition procedures of Polypropylene-Low Density Polyethylene (PP-LDPE; 90/10 wt%) blends involving different amounts (5, 10, 20 wt%) Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) was investigated using thermogravimetry in dynamic nitrogen atmosphere at different heating rates. An integral composite procedure involving the integral iso-conversional methods such as the Tang (TM), the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose method (KAS), the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO), an integral method such as Coats-Redfern (CR) and master plots method were employed to determine the kinetic model and kinetic parameters of the decomposition processes under non-isothermal conditions. The Iso-conversional methods indicated that the thermal decomposition reaction should conform to single reaction model. The results of the integral composite procedures of TG data at various heating rates suggested that thermal processes of PP-LDPE-CaCO3 composites involving different amounts of CaCO3 filler component (5, 10, 20 wt%) followed a single step with approximate activation energies of 226.7, 248.9, and 252.0 kJ.mol? 1 according to the FWO method, respectively and those of 231.3, 240.1 and 243.0 kJ mol? 1 at 5°C min? 1 according to the Coats-Redfern method, the reaction mechanisms of all the composites was described from the master plots methods and are Pn model for composite C-1, Rn model for composites C-2 and C-3, respectively. It was found that the thermal stability, activation energy and thermal decomposition process changed by the increasing CaCO3 filler weight in composite structure.  相似文献

Mechanical blends formed of 50 wt% of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and 50 wt% of ethylene–propylene–diene-monomer (EPDM) elastomer have been loaded with 50 wt% of three different particle size of CaCO3, namely CaCO3 300, CaCO3 700, and CaCO3 2000 whereby the latter has the smallest particle size of ~311, 82 μm. Mechanical, physico-chemical and thermal properties were followed up as a function of irradiation dose for loaded and unloaded blends. The results obtained indicated that the values of tensile strength, tensile modulus at 50% elongation, gel fraction and decomposition temperature increase with increasing irradiation dose. On the other hand elongation at break, permanent set and swelling number were found to decrease with increasing irradiation dose. Moreover, the effect of particle size of CaCO3 was observed in a limited but apparent upgrading of mechanical, physico-chemical, and thermal properties. The order of semi-reinforcing capacity of three different types of CaCO3 is as follow: CaCO3 2000 > CaCO3 700 > CaCO3 300 > unloaded blend. Whereby CaCO3 2000 has the smallest particle size.  相似文献

Polystyrene (PSt) seed latex was first prepared via soap‐free emulsion polymerization in the presence of a small amount of methacrylic acid using ammonium persulfate as initiator, and then seeded emulsion polymerization of sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate (NaSS) and St was carried out to synthesize P(St‐NaSS) core latex using 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. After that, P(St‐NaSS)/CaCO3 core‐shell nanoparticles were fabricated by sequentially introducing Ca(OH)2 aqueous solution and CO2 gas into the core latex. The morphology of the core and core‐shell nanoparticles was characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the state of CaCO3 shell was confirmed with high‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscope (HR‐STEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). Results showed that PNaSS chains were successfully grafted onto the PSt seed surface, and length of the PNaSS "hairs" could be modulated by adjusting NaSS amount. Sulfonic groups of the PNaSS hairs served as additives in the formation and stabilization of amorphous CaCO3(ACC) and prevented ACC from sequent transformation into crystalline states. The amount of the anchored CaCO3 increased with the growth of PNaSS hair length, and reached 51 wt% (by thermalgravimetric analysis) under the optimal encapsulating temperature of 45°C. Moreover, the forming mechanism of P(St‐NaSS)/CaCO3 core‐shell nanoparticles was proposed.  相似文献

A soapless emulsion polymerization method was applied to synthesize CaCO3/PMMA spherical composite with different loading of CaCO3. CaCO3 nanoparticles were pretreated with oleic acid after the carbonation process of Ca(OH)2 slurry by CO2, in order to improve the compatibility between the CaCO3 particles and MMA monomer in emulsion system. The results of photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) showed the particles size of composites were bigger than the pure PMMA. And the size increased with the increase of the content of CaCO3 nanoparticles. TEM images showed that the morphology of the composite microspheres was uniform and CaCO3 nanoparticles can be well encapsulated in the polymeric microsphere, and were located at the edge of the spheres. The results of DTG and TG indicated that the CaCO3 nanoparticles could improve the thermal stability of PMMA. Moreover, capsulation of CaCO3 by PMMA can increase the acid-resistant of CaCO3 nanofillers.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) was modified with elastomer or CaCO3 particles of two different sizes (1 μm and 50 nm) in various volume fractions. The dispersion morphology and mechanical properties of the two systems were investigated as functions of the particle size and volume fraction of the modifier. The brittle‐to‐tough transition occurred when the matrix ligament thickness was less than the critical ligament thickness, which was about 0.1 μm for the PP used here, being independent of the type of modifier. At the same matrix ligament thickness, the improvement of the toughness was obviously higher with the elastomer rather than with CaCO3, but adding CaCO3 increased the modulus of PP. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triblock copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)‐poly(alkylene phosphate)‐poly(ethylene glycol) was prepared by first reacting hexamethylene glycol with dimethyl‐H‐phosphonate at conditions of transesterification and then replacing the CH3OP(O)(H)O‐… end‐groups by monomethyl ether of poly(ethylene glycol). The course of reaction was studied by 31P NMR indicating complete conversion. After oxidation the poly(alkylene H‐phosphonate was converted into the final triblock polyphosphate. This triblock copolymer was used as a modifier of CaCO3 crystallization. Unusual semi open empty spheres resulted, composed of small crystallites of the size (diameter) equal to 40–90 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In recent years, chitosan has been applied for wound management due to its properties of biocompatibility, biodegradability, antimicrobial activity, and low immunogenicity. But the poor water solubility in neutral pH limited its further application in clinical wound healing. To overcome this problem, acetate chitosan was developed and approved as commercial products for wound healing. However, the acidity of acetate chitosan was potentially allergenic, and the poor mechanical properties of its formed hydrogels also hindered the therapeutic efficacy in wound care. In this study, CaCO3 was simply doped into acetate chitosan to form the wound dressing. After absorbing water, the H+ of acetate chitosan reacted with CaCO3 to release Ca2+, resulting in acidity decreased. The production of Ca2+ and residue of CaCO3 cross‐linked with chitosan to form a tough hydrogel by electrostatic interaction. The physical characteristics, swelling, mechanical testing, and blood clotting were evaluated. The results in vitro demonstrated that after doping CaCO3 into acetate chitosan, the mechanical properties and blood clotting of the formed hydrogel were increased. Then, the evaluation of hydrogels in vivo revealed that it can also accelerate the wound healing by promoting re‐epithelization and collagen deposition. This simple way by doping CaCO3 into acetate chitosan can increase wound healing, and it can also broad the application of acetate chitosan in clinical use.  相似文献

The main purpose of incorporating fillers, such as calcium carbonate, into blends of polyolefins is to decrease costs and change tensile and impact properties. Structural differences between both components give rise to the formation of large filler agglomerates in the polymer matrix, which influence the mechanical response of the material. Therefore, the coupling agents of the Lica 12 type at various concentrations was used to facilitate the link between filler and matrix (the latter consisting of PP/HDPE 80/20 wt). Filler was added to the PP/HDPE blend at a 30 wt.% concentration. Two types of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) were used. These have different average sizes (3.0 and 1.8 μm) which were determined by means of laser diffraction techniques. In addition other coupling agents of the titanate type, such as Lica 09, Lica 01, zirconates ZN 12, and a 1:1 mixture of Lica 12 and Lica 01, were used. This study clearly demonstrated that the addition of the coupling agent to CaCO3 modifies the mechanical properties of the PP/HDPE/CaCO3 composites. Values of the mechanical properties indicate that due to its characteristics, each coupling agent gives rise to increases in a particular mechanical property. In the case of Lica 01 an increase was verified in Young’s modulus at 0.7 wt.% and in elongation at break at both concentrations (0.3 and 0.7 wt.%), whereas ZN 12 brought about an increase in elongation at break. The 1:1 mixture of Lica 12 and Lica 01 caused impact resistance of the blend of PP/HDPE with CaCO3 to increase considerably.  相似文献

The effects of HDPE matrix toughness on the brittle-ductile transition of HDPE/CaCO_3blends are investigated. Not all HDPE can be toughened by CaCO_3 particles. The ability of thematrix to yield plays a fundamental role in determing whether HDPE can be toughened or not. There exists a critical matrix toughness (I_(sc)≈45J/m) below which HDPE can not be toughenedobservably by CaCO_3 particle at given average size, and above which the critical matrix ligamentthickness (τ_?) is proportional to matrix impact strength.  相似文献

The preparation of superparamagnetic composites obtained by CaCO3 mineralization from supersaturate aqueous solutions is presented. The preparation was conducted in the presence of oleic acid stabilized magnetite nanoparticles as a water‐based magnetic fluid and insoluble templates as gel‐like cross‐linked polymeric beads. The presence of the magnetic particles in the composites provides a facile way for external manipulation using a permanent magnet, thus allowing the separation and extraction of magnetically modified materials. Two ion exchangers based on divinylbenzene/ethyl acrylate/acrylonitrile cross‐linked copolymer—a cation ion exchanger (CIE) and an amphoteric ion exchanger (AIE)—were used, as well as different addition orders of magnetite and CaCO3 crystals growth precursors. The morphology of the composites was investigated by SEM, the polymorphs content by X‐ray diffraction, and the thermal stability by thermogravimetric analysis. Polymer, CaCO3, and magnetite in the composite particles were shown to be present by energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX), XPS, and TEM. The sorption capacity for CuII ions was tested, as compared to samples prepared without magnetite.  相似文献

Summary: We previously discovered that structurally well-defined polymer/inorganic composite particles, i.e., poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/CaCO3/SiO2 three-component composite particles, can be achieved via reverse atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), using 2,2′-azo-bis-isobutyronitrile as initiator and CuII bromide as catalyst. In the present study, the influence of the mass ratio of CaCO3/SiO2 two-component composite particles to methyl methacrylate (MMA) on the rate and behavior of the polymerization was studied in detail. The results illustrate that increasing the mass ratio of CaCO3/SiO2 two-component composite particles will decrease the overall rate of polymerization of MMA under standard reverse ATRP conditions. Thermal properties of the obtained well-defined particles were characterized and determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicate that well-defined PMMA chains grafted on the surface of CaCO3/SiO2 particles were only degraded by random chain scission of C C linkages within the PMMA chain, which is different from the degradation of PMMA chains prepared via traditional radical polymerization. This difference is reasonably ascribed to the difference between the end groups of PMMA prepared via reverse ATRP and that via traditional radical polymerization, which has been confirmed by end group analysis measured by 1H–NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

Silica (SiO2) nanoparticles and silica/calcium carbonate (SiO2/CaCO3) core–shell nanocomposites were prepared by sol–gel technique as fillers for papermaking application. Semi-burned rice straw ash (SBRSA), as waste material, was used to prepare the targeted fillers. Preparation of SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites was carried out using Na2SiO3 solution that was prepared from SBRSA and CaCO3 nanoparticles of 30–70 nm. The targeted SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites were prepared with different molar ratio of SiO2:CaCO3 1:15, 1:10 and 1:5. The percentage of silica increased from 62.5% to 82.9% by thermal treatment of SBRSA at 800 °C for 2 h. The prepared SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites were characterized by using XRD, XRF, TEM, FT-IR and Zeta potential. The results indicate that a pure semi-crystalline SiO2 nanoparticle and semi-crystalline shell of SiO2 coated CaCO3 core particles were produced. The work extended also to investigate the effect of the prepared fillers on physical, mechanical and optical properties of paper.Application of the prepared SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites improved the optical properties of paper (brightness, whiteness and opacity) but it slightly reduced the mechanical properties when compared to commercial precipitated CaCO3 (PCC) filler. The results showed that the retention of SiO2 nano-particles was highly increased. The retention of the prepared nanocomposites increased along with increasing of SiO2:CaCO3 molar ratio.  相似文献

PMMA based nanocomposites filled with calcium carbonate nanoparticles (CaCO3) have been prepared by in situ polymerization approach. In order to improve inorganic nanofillers/polymer compatibility, PBA chains have been grafted onto CaCO3 nanoparticle surface. Morphological analysis performed on nanocomposite fractured surfaces has revealed that the CaCO3 modification induces homogeneous and fine dispersion of nanoparticles into PMMA as well as strong interfacial adhesion between the two phases. Mechanical tests have shown that both unmodified and modified CaCO3 are responsible for an increase of the Young's Modulus, whereas only PBA-grafted nanoparticles allow to keep unchanged impact strength, strongly deteriorated by adding unmodified CaCO3. Finally, the presence of CaCO3 nanoparticles significantly improves the abrasion resistance of PMMA also modifying its wear mechanism.  相似文献
