This paper presents wind tunnel tests on a stationary cylinder inclined with the flow. The cylinder was positioned at different sets of yaw and vertical angles. The flow regime of the tests remained in the subcritical state. Two load cells were designed and installed to measure the aerodynamic forces, with enough sensitivity to measure vortex shedding frequencies. In this paper, the three aerodynamic force coefficients are normalized using the free stream velocity instead of its normal component. The results show that the drag coefficient and the resultant of the lift and side forces coefficients can be described by an empirical function of the incidence angle. The lift and side force coefficients remain however functions of both the horizontal yaw and vertical angles and cannot be expressed as functions of the incidence angle only. The Independence Principle was observed to become inaccurate for yaw angles larger than 40°. However, the measured Strouhal numbers indicate that the vortex shedding frequencies of a yawed cylinder can be predicted using the Independence Principle.  相似文献

In this article, the interaction of a normal shock with a yawed wedge moving at supersonic speed has been considered. The vorticity distribution of a particle over the diffracted shock wave for various combinations of yawed angles, Mach number of the shock wave and Mach number of the moving wedge have been obtained. 为研究输运不同流体的海洋立管在海流作用下的振动规律,在大型波浪流水槽中进行涡激振动模型实验。实验分别将四种不同质量比的立管模型竖直固定于支架上,立管外部承受不同速度的流体作用,上端施加顶张力。立管模型上均匀布置六个测点,根据每个测点布置的两个应变计,分别测得来流向和横向两个方向振动响应。通过小波变换对实验数据进行去噪处理,利用振型分解法求解立管各点涡激振动位移。考察输运不同流体对立管自振频率以及涡激振动响应的影响,并利用雨流计数法对模型进行疲劳分析。实验结果表明,随质量比增加立管涡激振动频率降低;低质量比的立管更容易产生大位移。  相似文献

The complex behaviour of an unsteady flow around two circular cylinders in tandem is of interest for many civil engineering applications across a wide range of aerospace, mechanical and marine applications. The present paper analyses Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) for the flow around two circular cylinders. It has been shown that the amount of kinetic energy which can be captured by VIV is a function of the arrangement of the two cylinders. The upstream cylinder is fixed while the downstream is mounted elastically with one degree of freedom normal to the mean flow direction. The efficiency of the VIV power obtained from downstream cylinder is compared for different arrangement of the cylinders. For this purpose, the longitudinal and lateral distances between the cylinders were varied and the Reynolds number was kept constant. Scale-Adaptive Simulation (SAS) and Shear Stress Transport (SST) CFD models are utilized to analyse the validity of the SAS turbulence model. The results indicate that both turbulence models predict the flow characteristics around the cylinders with reasonable precision; however, the predictions from SAS were more accurate compared to the SST. Based on this comparison, SAS model was chosen as a tool to analyse the VIV response of the downstream cylinder. The location of the downstream cylinder has been altered in the wake of upstream one in order to obtain the optimum efficiency of the VIV power. The results reveal that the arrangement of the cylinders can significantly change the efficiency. It is also observed that cylinders offset from one another show a higher efficiency compared to cylinders with their centres aligned.  相似文献

Delaminations in composite laminates may develop from small cracks due to fabrication and impact loading, or from places of high stress concentration. The locations of the delaminations are not determinate. In this research, an analytical solution for the free vibration of a composite beam with two overlapping delaminations is presented. The delaminated beam is analyzed as seven interconnected beams using the delaminations as their boundaries. The continuity and equilibrium conditions are satisfied between the adjoining regions of the beams. Classical beam theory is applied to each of the beams. Complex vibration behaviors emerge for different sizes and locations of the delaminations. Results are presented for flow-induced vibrations of a pair of equal-sized circular cylinders of low nondimensional mass (m*=10) in a tandem arrangement. The cylinders are free to oscillate both in streamwise and transverse directions. The Reynolds number, based on the free-stream speed and the diameter of the cylinders, D is 100 and the centre-to-centre distance between the cylinders is 5.5D. The computations are carried out for reduced velocities in the range 2≤U*≤15. The structural damping is set to zero for enabling maximum amplitudes of oscillation. A stabilized finite element method is utilized to carry out the computations in two dimensions. Even though the response of the upstream cylinder is found to be qualitatively similar to that of an isolated cylinder, the presence of a downstream cylinder is found to have significant effect on the behaviour of the upstream cylinder. The downstream cylinder undergoes very large amplitude of oscillations in both transverse and streamwise directions. The maximum amplitude of transverse response of the downstream cylinder is quite similar to that of a single cylinder at higher Re beyond the laminar regime. Lock-in and hysteresis are observed for both upstream and downstream cylinders. The downstream cylinder undergoes large amplitude oscillations even beyond the lock-in state. The phase between transverse oscillations and lift force suffers a 180 jump for both the cylinders almost in the middle of the synchronization regime. The phase between the transverse response of the two cylinders is also studied. Complex flow patterns are observed in the wake of the freely vibrating cylinders. Based on the phase difference and the flow patterns, the entire flow range is divided into five sub-regions.  相似文献

The two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation governing steady laminar incompressible flow are solved by a penalty finite-element model for flow across finite depth, five-row deep, staggered bundles of cylinders. Pitch to diameter ratios of 1·5 and 2·0 are considered for cylinders in equilateral triangular and square arrangements. Reynolds numbers studied range from 100 to 400, and a Prandtl number of 0·7 is used. Velocity vector fields, streamline patterns, vorticity, pressure and temperature contours, local and average Nusselt numbers, pressure and shear stress distributions around the cylinder walls and drag coefficients are presented. 利用Fluent软件数值求解不可压缩粘性流体的N-S方程,研究均匀来流Re=200时弹性圆柱体的涡激振动.圆柱体运动简化为质量-弹簧-阻尼系统,将Newmark-β方法代码写入用户自定义函数(UDF)求解运动方程,柱体与流体间的非线性耦合作用通过动网格技术实现.详细分析了涡激力系数、柱体位移特征值和尾流涡结构随频率比的变化关系,获得"相位开关"、"拍"等现象.考虑流向振动对横向振动影响时,圆柱体最大横向振幅为0.65倍直径.当固定频率比,而质量比或折合阻尼增大时,圆柱体流向与横向振动均呈非线性衰减趋势,但增大质量比对流向平均位移的偏离起到更好的控制效果.  相似文献

The wake-induced vibration (WIV) of two staggered cylinder with two degrees of freedom (2-dof) has been investigated by experiments in a water channel for Reynolds number between 2000 and 25 000. The streamwise separation was fixed to 4 diameters and the lateral separation varied between 0 and 3 diameters for tandem and staggered configurations. Results are presented in the form of trajectories of motion and dynamic response curves of displacements, frequencies and force coefficients. Excitation caused by the WIV mechanism is found to get weaker as the initial position of the downstream cylinder is increased from the centreline of the wake (tandem arrangement) towards the sides. For a lateral separation of 3 diameters wake interference was already found to be negligible. Evidence of a type of wake-stiffness concept is also observed to occur for 2-dof WIV in tandem arrangement, especially for higher reduced velocities. A similar mechanism may also be occurring for staggered arrangements around the centreline.  相似文献

The study sets up a simple model for predicting vibration induced sliding of mass, and provides quantitative experimental evidence for the validity of the model. The results lend confidence to recent theoretical developments on using vibration induced sliding for passive vibration damping, and contributes to a further understanding of this nonlinear phenomenon. A mathematical model is set up to describe vibration induced sliding for a base-excited cantilever beam with a spring-loaded pointmass. Approximations simplify the model into two nonlinear ordinary differential equations, describing motions of the system at near-resonant excitation of a single beam mode. This simplified model is studied numerically and analytically, and tested against laboratory experiments. The experiments provide evidence that the simplified mathematical model retains those features of the real system that are necessary for making useful predictions of transient and stationary first-mode response.  相似文献

Theoretical and experimental non-linear vibrations of thin rectangular plates and curved panels subjected to out-of-plane harmonic excitation are investigated. Experiments have been performed on isotropic and laminated sandwich plates and panels with supported and free boundary conditions. A sophisticated measuring technique has been developed to characterize the non-linear behavior experimentally by using a Laser Doppler Vibrometer and a stepped-sine testing procedure. The theoretical approach is based on Donnell's non-linear shell theory (since the tested plates are very thin) but retaining in-plane inertia, taking into account the effect of geometric imperfections. A unified energy approach has been utilized to obtain the discretized non-linear equations of motion by using the linear natural modes of vibration. Moreover, a pseudo arc-length continuation and collocation scheme has been used to obtain the periodic solutions and perform bifurcation analysis. Comparisons between numerical simulations and the experiments show good qualitative and quantitative agreement. It is found that, in order to simulate large-amplitude vibrations, a damping value much larger than the linear modal damping should be considered. This indicates a very large and non-linear increase of damping with the increase of the excitation and vibration amplitude for plates and curved panels with different shape, boundary conditions and materials.  相似文献

This paper deals with the small oscillations of two circular cylinders immersed in a viscous stagnant fluid. A new theoretical approach based on an Helmholtz expansion and a bipolar coordinate system is presented to estimate the fluid forces acting on the two bodies. We show that these forces are linear combinations of the cylinder accelerations and velocities, through viscous fluid added coefficients. To assess the validity of this theory, we consider the case of two equal size cylinders, one of them being stationary while the other one is forced sinusoidally. The self-added mass and damping coefficients are shown to decrease with both the Stokes number and the separation distance. The cross-added mass and damping coefficients tend to increase with the Stokes number and the separation distance. Compared to the inviscid results, the effect of viscosity is to add a correction term which scales as Sk12. When the separation distance is sufficiently large, the two cylinders behave as if they were independent and the Stokes predictions for an isolated cylinder are recovered. Compared to previous works, the present theory offers a simple and flexible alternative for an easy determination of the fluid forces and related added coefficients. To our knowledge, this is also the first time that a numerical approach based on a penalization method is presented in the context of fluid–structure interactions for relatively small Stokes numbers, and successfully compared to theoretical predictions.  相似文献

In the Shock Wave Journal Vol. 2, No. 4 a benchmark test for shock wave reflection over wedges was announced. International scientists who are interested in shock wave research were invited to participate. The benchmark test aimed at comparison of various advanced numerical schemes as well as experimental results. During the last three years more than twenty results, including both CFD and experiments, were collected from all over the world. Efforts contributed by these scientists made the present benchmark test reach to a standard of the state of the art of the computational fluid dynamics applied to the shock wave research. A planar passive walking model with straight legs and round feet was discussed. This model can walk down steps, both on stairs with even steps and with random steps. Simulations showed that models with small moments of inertia can navigate large height steps. Period-doubling has been observed when the space between steps grows. This period-doubling has been validated by experiments, and the results of experiments were coincident with the simulation.  相似文献

Vibration and stability are investigated for an axially moving beam constrained by simple supports with torsion springs. A scheme is proposed to derive natural frequencies and modal functions from given boundary conditions of an elastic beam moving at a constant speed. For a beam constituted by the Kelvin model, effects of viscoelasticity on the free vibration are analyzed via the method of multiple scales and demonstrated via numerical simulations. When the axial speed is characterized as a simple harmonic variation about the constant mean speed, the instability conditions are presented for axially accelerating viscoelastic beams in parametric resonance. Numerical examples show the effects of the constraint stiffness, the mean axial speed, and the viscoelasticity.  相似文献

The vibration and buckling characteristics of sandwich plates having laminated stiff layers are studied for different degrees of imperfections at the layer interfaces using a refined plate theory. With this plate theory, the through thickness variation of transverse shear stresses is represented by piece-wise parabolic functions where the continuity of these stresses is satisfied at the layer interfaces by taking jumps in the transverse shear strains at the interfaces. The transverse shear stresses free condition at the plate top and bottom surfaces is also satisfied. The inter-laminar imperfections are represented by in-plane displacement jumps at the layer interfaces and characterized by a linear spring layer model. It is quite interesting to note that this plate model having all these refined features requires unknowns only at the reference plane. To have generality in the analysis, finite element technique is adopted and it is carried out with a new triangular element developed for this purpose, as any existing element cannot model this plate model. As there is no published result on imperfect sandwich plates, the problems of perfect sandwich plates and imperfect ordinary laminates are used for validation.  相似文献
