In this paper, among other things, the author studies the weak^*-closed left translation invariant complemented subspace of semigroup algebras and group algebras. Also, the author studies the relationships between projections and amenability.  相似文献

Let S be a finite orthodox semigroup or an orthodox semigroup where the idempotent band E(S) is locally pseudofinite. In this paper, by using principal factors and Rukolaǐne idempotents, we show that the contracted semigroup algebra R0[S] is semiprimitive if and only if S is an inverse semigroup and R[G] is semiprimitive for each maximal subgroup G of S. This theorem strengthens previous results about the semiprimitivity of inverse semigroup algebras.  相似文献

Let S be a foundation locally compact topological semigroup. Two new topologies τ c and τ w are introduced on M a (S)*. We introduce τ c and τ w almost periodic functionals in M a (S)*. We study these classes and compare them with each other and with the norm almost periodic and weakly almost periodic functionals. For fM a (S)*, it is proved that T f ∈ℬ(M a (S),M a (S)*) is strong almost periodic if and only if f is τ c -almost periodic. Indeed, we have obtained a generalization of a well known result of Crombez for locally compact group to a more general setting of foundation topological semigroups. Finally if P(S) (the set of all probability measures in M a (S)) has the semiright invariant isometry property, it is shown that the set of τ w -almost periodic functionals has a topological left invariant mean.  相似文献

A host algebra of a topological group G is a C *-algebra whose representations are in one-to-one correspondence with certain continuous unitary representations of G. In this paper we present an approach to host algebras for infinite dimensional Lie groups which is based on complex involutive semigroups. Any locally bounded absolute value α on such a semigroup S leads in a natural way to a C *-algebra C *(S,α), and we describe a setting which permits us to conclude that this C *-algebra is a host algebra for a Lie group G. We further explain how to attach to any such host algebra an invariant weak-*-closed convex set in the dual of the Lie algebra of G enjoying certain nice convex geometric properties. If G is the additive group of a locally convex space, we describe all host algebras arising this way. The general non-commutative case is left for the future. To K.H. We prove that an x0-quasinilpotent semigroup S of continuous positive linear operators on a locally convex solid Riesz space X has a common invariant subspace. Using this, a result which implies the main theorem of Abramovich, Aliprantis and Burkinshaw [J. Funct. Anal. 115 (1993) 418424] is also given.  相似文献

It is shown that the collection of weakly almost periodic functionals on the convolution algebra of a commutative Hopf von Neumann algebra is a C*-algebra. This implies that the weakly almost periodic functionals on M(G), the measure algebra of a locally compact group G, is a C*-subalgebra of M(G)* = C 0(G)**. The proof builds upon a factorisation result, due to Young and Kaiser, for weakly compact module maps. The main technique is to adapt some of the theory of corepresentations to the setting of general reflexive Banach spaces.  相似文献

In this article, the approximate amenability of semigroup algebra ?1(S) is investigated, where (S) is a uniformly locally finite inverse semigroup. Indeed, we show that for a uniformly locally finite inverse semigroup (S), the notions of amenability, approximate amenability and bounded approximate amenability of ?1(S) are equivalent. We use this to give a direct proof of the approximate amenability of ?1(S) for a Brandt semigroup (S). Moreover, we characterize the approximate amenability of ?1(S), where S is a uniformly locally finite band semigroup.  相似文献

For a locally compact group G, L^1 (G) is its group algebra and L^∞(G) is the dual of L^1 (G).Lau has studied the bounded linear operators T:L^∞(G)→L^∞(G) which commute with convolutions and translations. For a subspace H of L^∞(G), we know that M(L^∞(G),H), the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on L^∞(G) into H which commute with convolutions, has been studied by Pyre and Lau. In this paper, we generalize these problems to L(K)^*, the dual of a hypergroup algebra L(K) in a very general setting, i.e. we do not assume that K admits a Haar measure. It should be noted that these algebras include not only the group algebra L^1(G) but also most of the semigroup algebras.Compact hypergroups have a Haar measure, however, in general it is not known that every hypergroup has a Haar measure. The lack of the Haar measure and involution presents many difficulties; however,we succeed in getting some interesting results.  相似文献

LetM(S) be the Banach algebra of all bounded regular Borel measures on a locally compact Hausdorff semitopological semigroupS with variation norm and convolution as multiplication. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions forM(S)* to have a topologically left invariant mean.  相似文献

For a locally compact group G, the measure convolution algebra M(G) carries a natural coproduct. In previous work, we showed that the canonical predual C 0(G) of M(G) is the unique predual which makes both the product and the coproduct on M(G) weak*-continuous. Given a discrete semigroup S, the convolution algebra 1(S) also carries a coproduct. In this paper we examine preduals for 1(S) making both the product and the coproduct weak*-continuous. Under certain conditions on S, we show that 1(S) has a unique such predual. Such S include the free semigroup on finitely many generators. In general, however, this need not be the case even for quite simple semigroups and we construct uncountably many such preduals on 1(S) when S is either ℤ+×ℤ or (ℕ,⋅).  相似文献

An inverse semigroup S is a Howson inverse semigroup if the intersection of finitely generated inverse subsemigroups of S is finitely generated. Given a locally finite action θ of a group G on a semilattice E, it is proved that E*θG is a Howson inverse semigroup if and only if G is a Howson group. It is also shown that this equivalence fails for arbitrary actions.  相似文献

We study algebraic and topological properties of the convolution semigroup of probability measures on a topological groups and show that a compact Clifford topological semigroup S embeds into the convolution semigroup P(G) over some topological group G if and only if S embeds into the semigroup exp(G)\exp(G) of compact subsets of G if and only if S is an inverse semigroup and has zero-dimensional maximal semilattice. We also show that such a Clifford semigroup S embeds into the functor-semigroup F(G) over a suitable compact topological group G for each weakly normal monadic functor F in the category of compacta such that F(G) contains a G-invariant element (which is an analogue of the Haar measure on G).  相似文献

The purpose of this note is to describe some algebraic conditions on a Banach algebra which force it to be finite dimensional. One of the main results in Theorem 2 which states that for a locally compact groupG, G is compact if there exists a measure μ in Soc(L 1(G)) such that μ(G) ≠ 0. We also prove thatG is finite if Soc(M(G)) is closed and every nonzero left ideal inM(G) contains a minimal left ideal.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group, and let A(G) and VN(G) be its Fourier algebra and group von Neumann algebra, respectively. In this paper we consider the similarity problem for A(G): Is every bounded representation of A(G) on a Hilbert space H similar to a *-representation? We show that the similarity problem for A(G) has a negative answer if and only if there is a bounded representation of A(G) which is not completely bounded. For groups with small invariant neighborhoods (i.e. SIN groups) we show that a representation π:A(G)→B(H) is similar to a *-representation if and only if it is completely bounded. This, in particular, implies that corepresentations of VN(G) associated to non-degenerate completely bounded representations of A(G) are similar to unitary corepresentations. We also show that if G is a SIN, maximally almost periodic, or totally disconnected group, then a representation of A(G) is a *-representation if and only if it is a complete contraction. These results partially answer questions posed in Effros and Ruan (2003) [7] and Spronk (2002) [25].  相似文献

A D-semigroup S is a semigroup equipped with an operation D satisfying laws asserting that for a ∈ S, D(a) is the smallest e in some set of idempotents U ? S for which ea = a. D-semigroups correspond to left-reduced U-semiabundant semigroups. The basic properties and many examples of D-semigroups are given. Also considered are D-rings, whose multiplicative semigroup is a D-semigroup. Rickart *-rings provide important examples, and the most general D-rings for which the elements of the form D(a) constitute a lattice under the same meet and join operations as for Rickart *-rings are described.  相似文献

In the present paper, the properties of a locally compact Hausdorff topological Brandt semigroup, and the relation between its semigroup algebras and ? 1-Munn algebras over group algebras are investigated. It is proved that for each locally compact Hausdorff topological group G, and each index set I, there exists a locally compact Hausdorff topological Brandt semigroup S=B(G,I) such that the Banach algebras $\mathcal {LM}_{I}(M(G))$ and $\mathcal{LM}_{I}(L^{1}(G))$ are isometrically isomorphic to M(S)/? 1({0}) and M a (S)/? 1({0}), respectively.  相似文献

Let S be a foundation locally compact topological semigroup, and let M a (S) be the space of all measures μM(S) for which the maps x?|μ|?δ x and x?|μ|?δ x from S into M(S) are weakly continuous. The purpose of this article is to develop a notion of character amenability for semigroup algebras. The main results concern the χ-amenability of M a (S). We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a left χ-mean on M a (S)?.  相似文献

Let G be a connected reductive Lie group and K be a maximal compact subgroup of G. We prove that the semigroup of all K-biinvariant probability measures on G is a strongly stable Hungarian semigroup. Combining with the result [see Rusza and Szekely(9)], we get that the factorization theorem of Khinchin holds for the aforementioned semigroup. We also prove that certain subsemigroups of K-biinvariant measures on G are Hungarian semigroups when G is a connected Lie group such that Ad G is almost algebraic and K is a maximal compact subgroup of G. We also prove a p-adic analogue of these results.  相似文献

A regular semigroup S is termed locally F-regular, if each class of the least completely simple congruence ξ contains a greatest element with respect to the natural partial order. It is shown that each locally F-regular semigroup S admits an embedding into a semidirect product of a band by S/ξ. Further, if ξ satisfies the additional property that for each s ∈ S and each inverse (sξ)′ of sξ in S/ξ the set (sξ)′ ∩ V(s) is not empty, we represent S both as a Rees matrix semigroup over an F-regular semigroup as well as a certain subsemigroup of a restricted semidirect product of a band by S/ξ.  相似文献

By means of a certain kind of atomic representation a new Segal algebraS 0(G) of continuous functions on an arbitrary locally compact abelian groupG is defined. From various characterizations ofS 0(G), e. g. as smallest element within the family of all strongly character invariant Segal algebras, functorial properties of the symbolS 0 are derived, which are similar to those of the spacel (G) of Schwartz-Bruhat functions, e. g. invariance under the Fourier transform, or compatibility with restrictions to closed subgroups. The corresponding properties of its Banach dualS' 0(G) as well as some of their applications are to be given in a subsequent paper.  相似文献
