We investigated the nonlinear Langmuir waves in a multi-ion-component low-temperature plasma. Beginning with the fluid theory of plasma, and taking fully nonlinear response of the low-frequency ion motion into account, we derived a set of equations governing the nonlinear coupling of the amplitude of the Langmuir wave and the low-frequency perturbation density. Using the Sagdeev potential method, we analyzed the characteristics of solitary wave. In the limit of small amplitude, the envelope soliton was found. Our investigation demonstrates that the properties of soliton in a multi-ion-component plasma are different from those of soliton in an electron-ion plasma.  相似文献

Nonlinear quantum-mechanical equations are derived for Langmuir waves in an isotropic electron collisionless plasma. A general analysis of dispersion relations is carried out for complex spectra of Langmuir waves and van Kampen waves in a quantum plasma with an arbitrary electron momentum distribution. Quantum nonlinear collisionless Landau damping in Maxwellian and degenerate plasmas is studied. It is shown that collisionless damping of Langmuir waves (including zero sound) occurs in collisionless plasmas due to quantum correction in the Cherenkov absorption condition, which is a purely quantum effect. Solutions to the quantum dispersion equation are obtained for a degenerate plasma.  相似文献

Nonlinear coupling between Langmuir waves with finite amplitude dispersive dust acoustic perturbations is considered. It is shown that the interaction is governed by a pair of coupled nonlinear differential equations. Numerical results reveal the formation of Langmuir envelope solitons composed of the dust density depression created by the ponderomotive force of bell-shaped Langmuir wave envelops. The associated ambipolar potential is positive. The present nonlinear theory should be able to account for the trapping of large amplitude Langmuir waves in finite amplitude dust density holes. This scenario may appear in Saturn's dense rings, and the Cassini spacecraft should be able to observe fully nonlinear cavitons, as presented herein. Furthermore, we propose that new electron-beam plasma experiments should be conducted to verify our theoretical prediction.  相似文献

Freely propagating electrostatic waves (free modes) are observed to be produced by intense, localized field structures in laboratory measurements performed in an unmagnetized plasma in a state of strong Langmuir turbulence. The freely traveling waves conform to the Langmuir dispersion relation and have an average frequency which is approximately 11% higher than the average frequency of the localized field structures. The observations are consistent with the predictions of strong Langmuir turbulence theory.  相似文献

研究了在双离子(H^ ,O^ )成份等离子体中的非线性朗谬尔波的特性,从流体方程出发,考虑低频离子运动的完全非线性和双极势的色散,得到了描述高频电场缓变振幅与低频势扰动的耦合方程组。利用哈密顿方法,在小振幅情况下,对方程组解耦合,利用Sagdeev势方法,对孤立波的性状进行了讨论,结果表明,双离子成份等离子体中双极势的孤立子的幅度相对电子,离子等离子体的双极势孤立子的幅度要大,而相应的高频电场强度的幅度相对要小,相应的孤立子的速度传播区也较小。  相似文献

Dispersion equations of a nonisothermal plasma waveguide in a constant external magnetic field are derived, when the magnetic field intensity tends to infinity. The plasma electrons' thermal velocity are taken in mind. A numerical analysis of dispersion equations for the E- (TH-) and H- (TE-) waves is made. In the high-frequency range it shows the possibility of the slow E-waves exciting with a higher frequency than the electron Langmuir frequency. In the range near to the ion Langmuir frequency it shows the existence of waves with an anomalous dispersion. These waves are named low-frequency backward E-waves and it is shown, that in some frequency ranges they change the group velocity sign. The dispersion is investigated also in respect to the waveguide plasma filling.  相似文献

Non-Maxwellian particle distribution functions possessing high energy tail and shoulder in the profile of distribution function considerably change the damping characteristics of the waves. In the present paper Landau damping of electron plasma (Langmuir) waves and ion-acoustic waves in a hot, isotropic, unmagnetized plasma is studied with the generalized (r,q) distribution function. The results show that for the Langmuir oscillations Landau damping becomes severe as the spectral index r or q reduces. However, for the ion-acoustic waves Landau damping is more sensitive to the ion temperature than the spectral indices.  相似文献

Langmuir cavitons have been artificially produced in Earth's ionosphere, but evidence of naturally occurring cavitation has been elusive. By measuring and modeling the spectra of electrostatic plasma modes, we show that natural cavitating, or strong, Langmuir turbulence does occur in the ionosphere, via a process in which a beam of auroral electrons drives Langmuir waves, which in turn produce cascading Langmuir and ion-acoustic excitations and cavitating Langmuir turbulence. The data presented here are the first direct evidence of cavitating Langmuir turbulence occurring naturally in any space or astrophysical plasma.  相似文献

The dispersion laws of electromagnetic waves in layered periodic metal-dielectric structures with anisotropic metal layers have been theoretically analyzed. It has been found that the anisotropy of metal layers is responsible for the appearance of additional allowed energy bands for photons. It has been shown that these bands correspond to plasma (Langmuir) waves propagating in anisotropic metal layers of the structure. Conditions under which the directions of group and phase velocities of Langmuir waves coincide or are opposite have been determined. It has been shown that the penetration of the electromagnetic field of Langmuir waves into dielectric layers is exponentially weak and this field is primarily concentrated in metal layers, where it oscillates in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the layers.  相似文献

A relativistic annular electron beam passing through a high-density plasma excites Langmuir waves via Cerenkov interaction. The Langmuir waves are backscattered off ions via nonlinear ion Landau damping. At moderately high amplitudes these waves are parametrically up-converted by the beam into high-frequency electromagnetic radiation, as observed in some recent experiments. A nonlocal theory of this process is developed in a cylindrical geometry. It is seen that the growth rate of the Langmuir wave scales as one-third the power of beam density. We present the results of the first reduced model simulations of the nonlinear development of the two-plasmon decay instability in an inhomogeneous plasma, including properties of the 3/2 harmonic emission. A sharp increase in radiation and Langmuir turbulence fluctuation levels occurs above a threshold laser intensity that depends on initial fluctuation levels. We study the competition between the linear propagation of Langmuir waves in the density gradient and the nonlinear saturation due to the Langmuir decay instability. The secondary decay Langmuir waves can provide the dominant source of the radiation and are essential to explain experiments.  相似文献

We present a theoretical investigation on the propagation of surface waves on the relativistic quantum plasma half-space. The dispersion relations of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and electrostatic surface waves containing relativistic quantum corrected terms are derived. Results show that the frequency of SPPs has a blue-shift, and surface Langmuir oscillations can propagate on the cold plasma half-space due to quantum effects. Numerical evaluation indicates that quantum effects to SPPs and electrostatic surface waves are significant and observable.  相似文献

Linear-mode conversion (LMC) of Langmuir waves to radiation near the plasma frequency at density gradients is important for space and astrophysical phenomena. We study LMC in warm magnetized plasmas using numerical electron fluid simulations when the density gradient is parallel to the ambient magnetic field (B0). We demonstrate that LMC can produce extraordinary- (x-) as well as ordinary- (o-) mode radiation from Langmuir waves, contrary to earlier expectations of o mode only. Equal amounts of o- and x-mode radiation are produced in the unmagnetized limit. The x-mode efficiency decreases as B0 increases, while the o-mode efficiency oscillates due to interference between incoming and reflected Langmuir waves. Both x and o modes should be produced for typical coronal and interplanetary parameters, alleviating the depolarization problem for type III solar radio bursts.  相似文献

Small and large amplitude linear and nonlinear ion acoustic and Langmuir waves are investigated for plasma with the generalized equation of state (EoS). This EoS covers a wide range of energy-density conditions from dilute classical regime up to the relativistically degenerate matter. Investigation shows that the linear dispersion and localized excitations of ion acoustic waves are significantly affected by the plasma parameters. It is also found that the criterion for ordinary soliton existence is significantly different for fully degenerate and nondegenerate plasma regimes with given electron temperature. In the nondegenerate regime, bright solitons form only for Mach numbers above a critical value which is only a function of the fluid temperature.  相似文献
