The paper presents solutions to the problems of plane Couette flow, axial flow in an annulus between two infinite cylinders, and flow between two rotating cylinders. Taking into account energy dissipation and the temperature dependence of viscosity, as given by Reynolds's relation =0 exp (–T) (0, =const). Two types of boundary conditions are considered: a) the two surfaces are held at constant (but in general not equal) temperatures; b) one surface is held at a constant temperature, the other surface is insulated.Nonisothermal steady flow in simple conduits with dissipation of energy and temperature-dependent viscosity has been studied by several authors [1–11]. In most of these papers [1–6] viscosity was assumed to be a hyperbolic function of temperature, viz. =m 1/1+2(T–Tm.Under this assumption the energy equation is linear in temperature and can he easily integrated. Couette flow with an exponential viscosity-temperature relation. =0 e T (0, =const), (0.1) was studied in [7, 8]. Couette flow with a general (T) relation was studied in (9).Forced flow in a plane conduit and in a circular tube with a general (T) relation was studied in [10]. In particular, it has been shown in [10] that in the case of sufficiently strong dependence of viscosity on temperature there can exist a critical value of the pressure gradient, such that a steady flow is possible only for pressure gradients below this critical value. In a previous work [11] the authors studied Polseuille flow in a circular tube with an exponential (T) relation. This thermohydrodynamic problem was reduced to the problem of a thermal explosion in a cylindrical domain, which led to the existence of a critical regime. The critical conditions for the hydrodynamic thermal explosion and the temperature and velocity profiles were calculated. In this paper we treat the problems of Couette flow, pressureless axial flow in an annulus, and flow between two rotating cylinders taking into account dissipation and the variation of viscosity with temperature according to Reynolds's law (0.1). The treatment of the Couette flow problem differs from that given in [8] in that the constants of integration are found by elementary methods, whereas in [8] this step involved considerable difficulties. The solution to the two other problems is then based on the Couette problem.  相似文献

By employing the four shafts balance concept paper [1] has reported a balance regime for the second order reciprocal inertia forces on the V-type eight cylinder internal combustion engines with a plane crankshaft. Thereafter, paper [2] has acquired a two-shafts balance regime, but through a rather tedious roudabout degenerating manipulation. The present article has, but starting out directly from the two-shafts balance concept, successfully acquired the same results as those in paper [2]. In addition, we propose, herein, a third balance system which might be, in general, called the slipper balance regime.  相似文献

An investigation is made into the conical flows which occur when a perfect (inviscid and nonheat conducting) gas flows over the terminal edges of surfaces with breaks separating an external and an internal flow with velocity vectors parallel to the line of intersection of the surfaces. Such flows are observed, in particular, in the neighborhood of breaks in the outlet edge of a nozzle of rectangular cross section with a straight or skewed exit plane under conditions of underexpanded flow of a supersonic jet into a cocurrent supersonic stream. By means of a linear analysis flow patterns corresponding to various flow interaction regimes and edge geometries are constructed and a law of similarity is formulated. The validity of the results thus obtained is confirmed by examples of the numerical solution of the complete nonlinear system of Euler equations. In this connection, within the framework of the approach outlined in [1], as a rule, together with the shocks and characteristic surfaces bounding the conical flow in question, the shear discontinuity separating the external and internal streams is constructed.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 1, pp. 119–127, January–February, 1935.  相似文献

Analytical solutions for the plane Couette flow and the plane Poiseuille flow of the one-mode Giesekus fluid without any retardation time have been obtained by considering the domain of definition for each of the two branch solutions which arise due to the presence of the quadratic stress terms in the constitutive equations. For each fixed value of the mobility parametera, the limiting value of the Weissenberg number for the upper branch solution, i.e., the physically realistic solution is determined in terms of the corresponding dimensionless shear stress for the plane Couette flow and in terms of the corresponding dimensionless pressure gradient for the plane Poiseuille flow. In the case of the plane Couette flow, it is shown that fora falling in the range 0a1/2 only the physically realistic solution exists while for 1/2<a 1 a nonphysical solution coexists with the realistic one. In the case of the plane Poiseuille flow, it is shown that the non-physical solution cannot even exist around the center plane of the channel, and the effects of the mobility parameter and the dimensionless pressure gradient on the flow variables are investigated. Possible extensions of the present approach to other steady simple shear flows with and without the introduction of the retardation time are also discussed.

Summary The stability of plane Couette and plane Poiseuille flow of a non-Newtonian fluid is investigated for small perturbations in the viscometric plane. The influence of the relaxation time of the perturbations is neglected. It is shown that plane Couette flow will become unstable independently of Reynolds number ifd(N)/d > 4 d holds. Here are the rate of shear velocity,N the first normal stress coefficient, the viscosity and d the differential viscosity ( d =d/d). The same criterion holds also for plane Poiseuille flow with the data taken at the wall. In this case the eigenfunctions are oscillating in a very thin layer near the wall and decaying very rapidly in the inner region of the flow field.

Experimental investigations of the influence of streamwise streaky structures on turbulization of a circular laminar jet are described. The qualitative characteristics of jet evolution are studied by smoke visualization of the flow pattern in the jet and by filming the transverse and longitudinal sections of the jet illuminated by the laser sheet with image stroboscopy. It is shown that the streaky structures can be generated directly at the nozzle exit, and their interaction with the Kelvin–Helmholtz ring vortices leads to emergence of azimuthal beams ( structures) by a mechanism similar to threedimensional distortion of the twodimensional Tollmien–Schlichting wave at the nonlinear stage of the classical transition in nearwall flows. The effect of the jetexhaustion velocity and acoustic action on jet turbulization is considered.  相似文献

An investigation is reported of several nonlinear eddy-viscosity models, both from a fundamental point of view and as a basis for resolving turbulence transport in transonic flows, with particular emphasis placed on shock-induced separation. The models are first analyzed by reference to a homogeneous shear flow and a plane channel flow, after which they are applied to two transonic flows with strong shock-wave/boundary-layer interaction including separation. The computational results demonstrate that nonlinear models with coefficients appropriately sensitized to strain and vorticity invariants, yield results which are superior to a standard linear low-Re k– model often claimed to give the best predictive performance among low-Re k– models which do not contain ad-hoc corrections. While this superior performance is partly associated with the functional dependence of the linear coefficient on strain and vorticity, this cannot be separated from the role of at least some nonlinear terms which interact with that coefficient, especially in complex strain fields featuring large streamline curvature and irrotational straining.  相似文献

In the hypersonic thin shock layer approximation for a small ratio k of the densities before and after the normal shock wave the solution of [1] for the vicinity of the stagnation point of a smooth blunt body is extended to the case of nonuniform outer flow. It is shown that the effect of this nonuniformity can be taken into account with the aid of the effective shock wave radius of curvature R*, whose introduction makes it possible to reduce to universal relations the data for different nonuniform outer flows with practically the same similarity criterion k. The results of the study are compared with numerical calculations of highly underexpanded jet flow past a sphere.Notations x, y a curvilinear coordinate system with axes directed respectively along and normal to the body surface with origin at the forward stagnation point - R radius of curvature of the meridional plane of the body surface - uV, vV., , p V 2 respectively the velocity projections on the x, y axes, density, and pressure - and V freestream density and velocity The indices =0 and=1 apply to plane and axisymmetric flows Izv. The deformation of particle image patterns due to velocity gradients causes errors of velocity measurements and false velocity detections in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). A novel technique to overcome those limitations inherent in the conventional PIV by correcting the particle image pattern according to the local velocity gradients in two dimensional flows, i.e. u/x, u/y, v/x and v/y, is proposed and successfully applied to a water flow downstream of a backward facing step.  相似文献

The flow in the gap between rotating and stationary parallel disks is an attractive object for studying the transition characteristics in three-dimensional internal flows. Firstly, in this case a large region of the basic motion is satisfactorily described by a self-similar solution to the Navier-Stokes equations [1]; secondly, as the parameter = h2/v ( is the. angular velocity of rotation of one of the disks and h is the gap width) varies, there is an evolution of the basic motion, so that it is easy to produce different types of initial and subsequent instabilities. The basic steady regime for axially symmetric flow has been studied by many authors (see [1, 2]). Questions of the transition in the gap between disks have been considered [3, 4]. This paper presents a methodology and the results of experimental investigations for different types of initial and subsequent instabilities in the gap between disks enclosed by a cylindrical cover. It was found that as a result of the loss of stability of the basic regime one of two steady vortex regimes is developed depending on the value of the relative gap width. The subsequent stages of soft excitation of the turbulent regime are described and the corresponding boundaries established. It is shown that in very narrow gaps the excitation of turbulence has a hard nature of the type realized in Couette flow. The stability limit for a laminarized boundary layer on a rotating disk and the boundary for complete turbulence of the layer were determined for relatively wide gaps. A comparison was made with known data for an unenclosed rotating disk.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 28–36, September–October, 1984.  相似文献

A system of differential equations is proposed to describe turbulent flows of incompressible fluid boundary layer type with constant thermophysical characteristics A turbulent temperature conductivity is introduced which is expressed in terms of the energy and scale of turbulence, the dimensionless gradients of the mean velocity and turbulence energy, and the dimensionless distance, to the surface being streamlined. This system is integrated on an electronc computer by the mesh method for the flow in a flat-plate boundary layer with different Prandtl numbers (0.2P100) For air (P=0.71) the system is integrated for nonzero values of the transverse mean velocity component on the streamlined surface (0vW/U0.0045).Moscow. The structure of the electromagnetic electrode layers that are produced in flows across a magnetic field by a completely ionized and inviscid plasma with good conductivity and a high magnetic Reynolds number is examined in a linear approximation. Flow past a corrugated wall and flow in a plane channel of slowly varying cross section with segmented electrodes are taken as specific examples. The possibility is demonstrated of the formation of nondissipative electrode layers with thicknesses on the order of the Debye distance or electron Larmor radius and of dissipative layers with thicknesses on the order of the skin thickness, as calculated from the diffusion rate in a magnetic field [2].In plasma flow in a transverse magnetic field, near the walls, along with the gasdynamie boundary layers, which owe their formation to viscosity, thermal conductivity, etc. (because of the presence of electromagnetic fields, their structures may vary considerably from that of ordinary gasdynamic layers), proper electromagnetic boundary layers may also be produced. An example of such layers is the Debye layer in which the quasi-neutrality of the plasma is upset. No less important, in a number of cases, is the quasi-neutral electromagnetic boundary layer, in which there is an abrupt change in the frozen-in parameter k=B/p (B is the magnetic field and p is the density of the medium). This layer plays a special role when we must explicitly allow for the Hall effect and the related formation of a longitudinal electric field (in the direction of the veloeiryv of the medium). We will call this the magnetic layer. The magnetic boundary layer can be dissipative as well as noudissipative (see below). The dissipative magnetic layer has been examined in a number of papers: for an incompressible medium with a given motion law in [1], for a compressible medium with good conductivity in [2], and with poor conductivity in [3]. In the present paper, particular attention will be devoted to nondissipative magnetic boundary layers.  相似文献

We consider a surface S = (), where 2 is a bounded, connected, open set with a smooth boundary and : 3 is a smooth map; let () denote the components of the two-dimensional linearized strain tensor of S and let 0 with length 0 > 0. We assume the the norm ,|| ()||0, in the space V0() = { H1() × H1() × L2(); = 0 on 0 } is equivalent to the usual product norm on this space. We then establish that this assumption implies that the surface S is uniformly elliptic and that we necessarily have 0 = .  相似文献

The motion of a conductive piston in the channel of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) generator of the conduction type with compound electrodes is considered. Formulas are obtained for calculation of the energy characteristics of the pulse MHD generator for various operational regimes. It is shown that in an MHD generator at magnetic Reynolds number values Rem = 0u0 1 (where 0 is the permeability of a vacuum, is the electrical conductivity of the piston, u0 is the initial velocity, and is the characteristic dimension), the energy transferred to an ohmic load may significantly exceed the values obtained in [1, 2]. Conditions for high-efficiency transformation of piston kinetic energy to electrical energy are considered for limiting values of the ratio of the latter to initial magnetic field energy in the generator channel.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 6, pp. 41–46, November–December, 1973.The authors thank V. The equations of one-dimensional and plane steady adiabatic motion of an ideal gas are transformed to a new form in which the role of the independent variables are played by the stream function and the function introduced by Martin [1, 2], It is shown that the function retains a constant value on a strong shock wave (and on a strong shock for plane flows). For one-dimensional isentropic motions the resulting transformation permits new exact solutions to be obtained from the exact solutions of the equations of motion. It is shown also that the one-dimensional motions of an ideal gas with the equation of state p=f(t) and the one-dimensional adiabatic motions of a gas for which p=f() are equivalent (t is time, is the stream function). It is shown that if k=s=–1, m and n are arbitrary (m+n0) and =1, the general solution of the system of equations which is fundamental in the theory of one-dimensional adiabatic self-similar motions [3] is found in parametric form with the aid of quadratures. Plane adiabatic motions of an ideal gas having the property that the pressure depends only on a single geometric coordinate are studied.  相似文献

A study is presented of the flow of stability of a Grad-model liquid layer [1, 2] flowing over an inclined plane under the influence of the gravity force. It is assumed that at every point of the considered material continuum, along with the conventional velocity vector v, there is defined an angular velocity vector , the internal moment stresses are negligibly small, and in the general case the force stress tensor kj is asymmetric. The model is characterized by the usual Newtonian viscosity , the Newtonian rolling viscosity r, and the relaxation time = J/4 r, where J is a scalar constant of the medium with dimensions of moment of inertia per unit mass, is the density. It is assumed that the medium is incompressible, the coefficients , r, J are constant [2].The exact solution of the equations of motion, corresponding to flow of a layer with a plane surface, coincides with the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in the case of flow of a layer of Newtonian fluid. The equations for three-dimensional periodic disturbances differ considerably from the corresponding equations for the problem of the flow stability of a layer of a Newtonian medium. It is shown that the Squire theorem is valid for parallel flows of a Grad liquid. The flow stability of the layer with respect to long-wave disturbances is studied using the method of sequential approximations suggested in [3, 4].  相似文献

An effective numerical procedure, based on the Galerkin method, for finding solutions of the stationary traveling wave type in the complete formulation is proposed for the case of viscous liquid films. Examples of a viscous film flowing freely down a vertical surface have been calculated. The calculations have been made for various values of the dimensionless surface tension , including =0. The method makes it possible to predict a number of bifurcations that occur as decreases. The existence of numerous families of stationary traveling waves when 1 was demonstrated in [6]. The present study shows that as 1 all but one of these families of wave solutions disappear. The shape of the periodic and solitary waves and the pressure distribution in the film are found for various . When =0 and the wave number is fairly small, the periodic solution has a singularity, as predicted in [14]: at the crest of the wave a corner point appears; the angle between the tangents at this point =140–150. The method proposed can be used to calculate other wavy film flows.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 94–100, May–June, 1990.  相似文献

Stokes flow through a rigid porous medium is analyzed in terms of the method of volume averaging. The traditional averaging procedure leads to an equation of motion and a continuity equation expressed in terms of the volume-averaged pressure and velocity. The equation of motion contains integrals involving spatial deviations of the pressure and velocity, the Brinkman correction, and other lower-order terms. The analysis clearly indicates why the Brinkman correction should not be used to accommodate ano slip condition at an interface between a porous medium and a bounding solid surface. The presence of spatial deviations of the pressure and velocity in the volume-averaged equations of motion gives rise to aclosure problem, and representations for the spatial deviations are derived that lead to Darcy's law. The theoretical development is not restricted to either homogeneous or spatially periodic porous media; however, the problem ofabrupt changes in the structure of a porous medium is not considered.Roman Letters A interfacial area of the - interface contained within the macroscopic system, m2 - A e area of entrances and exits for the -phase contained within the macroscopic system, m2 - A interfacial area of the - interface contained within the averaging volume, m2 - A * interfacial area of the - interface contained within a unit cell, m2 - Ae area of entrances and exits for the -phase contained within a unit cell, m2 - B second order tensor used to represent the velocity deviation (see Equation (3.30)) - b vector used to represent the pressure deviation (see Equation (3.31)), m–1 - d distance between two points at which the pressure is measured, m - g gravity vector, m/s2 - K Darcy's law permeability tensor, m2 - L characteristic length scale for volume averaged quantities, m - characteristic length scale for the -phase (see Figure 2), m - characteristic length scale for the -phase (see Figure 2), m - n unit normal vector pointing from the -phase toward the -phase (n =–n ) - n e unit normal vector for the entrances and exits of the -phase contained within a unit cell - p pressure in the -phase, N/m2 - p intrinsic phase average pressure for the -phase, N/m2 - p p , spatial deviation of the pressure in the -phase, N/m2 - r 0 radius of the averaging volume and radius of a capillary tube, m - v velocity vector for the -phase, m/s - v phase average velocity vector for the -phase, m/s - v intrinsic phase average velocity vector for the -phase, m/s - v v , spatial deviation of the velocity vector for the -phase, m/s - V averaging volume, m3 - V volume of the -phase contained within the averaging volume, m3 Greek Letters V/V, volume fraction of the -phase - mass density of the -phase, kg/m3 - viscosity of the -phase, Nt/m2 - arbitrary function used in the representation of the velocity deviation (see Equations (3.11) and (B1)), m/s - arbitrary function used in the representation of the pressure deviation (see Equations (3.12) and (B2)), s–1  相似文献

The spectrum of inhomogeneous turbulence is modeled by an approach that is not limited to regimes of large Reynolds numbers or small mean-flow strain rates. In its simplest form and applied to incompressible flow, the model depends on five phenomenological constants defining the strength of turbulence coupling to mean flow, turbulence transport in physical and wave-number space, and mixing of stress-tensor components. The implications for homogeneous isotropic turbulence are investigated in detail and found to correspond well to the conclusions from more fundamental theories. Under appropriate limiting conditions, a turbulent system described by the model will relax over time into a state of approximate spectral equilibrium permitting a reduction to a one-point model for the system that is substantially like the familiar K- model. This yields preliminary estimates of the present model's parameters and points to the way to improved modeling of flows beyond the applicability of the K- method.  相似文献
