Ten new Lycopodium alkaloids having the lycopodane skeleton isolated from Lycopodium serratum Thunb

Ten new alkaloids, lycoposerramines-F (1), -G (2), -H (3), -I (4), -J (5), -K (6), -L (7), -M (8), -N (9), and -O (10), having lycopodine-related structures, were isolated from the club moss Lycopodium serratum THUNB. and their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and/or chemical transformation.     

Sieboldine A, a novel tetracyclic alkaloid from Lycopodium sieboldii, inhibiting acetylcholinesterase

[structure: see text] A novel Lycopodium alkaloid with an unprecedented fused-tetracyclic ring system consisting of an aza-cyclononane ring having a N-hydroxy group, a cyclohexanone, a cyclopentanone, and a tetrahydrofuran ring, sieboldine A (1), was isolated from the club moss Lycopodium sieboldii. The structure and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of 2D NMR data and X-ray analysis. Sieboldine A (1) exhibited a potent inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase and modest cytotoxicity.     

Structure elucidation and biomimetic synthesis of hostasinine A, a new benzylphenethylamine alkaloid from Hosta plantaginea

Hostasinine A (1), a benzylphenethylamine alkaloid with an unprecedented skeleton featuring a C-4-C-6 linkage and a nitrone moiety, was isolated from Hosta plantaginea. Its structure was established on the basis of spectroscopic data, and was further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The alkaloid was postulated biogenetically from haemanthidine via N-oxidation and aza-aldol-type condensation and was synthesized biomimetically. The inhibitory activities of 1 on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and two tumor cell lines (K562 and A549) were also evaluated.     

Himeradine A,a novel C27N3-type alkaloid from Lycopodium chinense

A novel C(27)N(3)-type Lycopodium alkaloid consisting of a fastigiatine-type skeleton (C(16)N(2)) and a quinolizidine moiety (C(11)N), himeradine A (1), has been isolated from the club moss Lycopodium chinense, and the structure and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.     

Nankakurine A, a novel C16N2-type alkaloid from Lycopodium hamiltonii

[sstructure: see text] A novel, fused-tetracyclic Lycopodium alkaloid, nankakurine A (1), consisting of a cyclohexane ring and a 3-aza-bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane ring connected to a piperidine ring through a spiro carbon, was isolated from the club moss Lycopodium hamiltonii. The structure and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.     

Structure and total synthesis of deplancheine,a novel indoloquinolizidine alkaloid

The structure of deplancheine $\text{5}$, an indoloquinolizidine alkaloid of a novel type, has been established from its spectral properties and also by an orginal synthesis.     

Lycopalhine A, a novel sterically congested Lycopodium alkaloid with an unprecedented skeleton from Palhinhaea cernua

A novel sterically congested Lycopodium alkaloid named lycopalhine A (1) that possesses a fused hexacyclic (5/5/5/6/6/6) ring system comprising a 5,9-diaza-tricyclo[6.2.1.0(4,9)]undecane moiety and a tricyclo[5.2.1.0(4,8)]decane moiety was isolated from Palhinhaea cernua L. The structure and absolute configuration were determined by spectroscopic and computational methods.     

Isolation of a new lycodine alkaloid from Lycopodium japonicum

A new lycodine alkaloid, N-methylhydroxypropyllycodine (1), was isolated from the club moss Lycopodium japonicum Thunb, together with five known compounds, N-methyllycodine (2), huperzinine (3), β-obscurine (4), α-obscurine (5) and des-N-methyl-α-obscurine (6). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses, including 2D NMR techniques.     

Structure elucidation of an unprecedented alkaloid and a new limonoid from Xylocarpus granatum

An unprecedented new limonoid-based alkaloid, granatoine (1), and a new phragmalin, xylocarpin L (2), along with xyloccensin Y were isolated as minor components from the fruits of the Chinese mangrove plant Xylocarpus granatum. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR) analysis. A possible biogenetic pathway for granatoine was also depicted.     

Asymmetric total syntheses of two phlegmarine-type alkaloids, lycoposerramines-V and -W, newly isolated from Lycopodium serratum

Two new Phlegmarine-type alkaloids, lycoposerramines-V and -W, were isolated from Lycopodium serratum, and their structures including the absolute configuration were established by asymmetric total synthesis involving such key steps as Johnson-Claisen rearrangement, asymmetric allylation, and ring-closing metathesis (RCM)- or SmI(2)-mediated stereoselective piperidine ring construction.     

Model studies toward the total synthesis of the Lycopodium alkaloid spirolucidine

[reaction: see text] A strategy for the synthesis of the spirocyclic core of spirolucidine was explored through a model study. The diene 4a was prepared and photolyzed to give the desired [2 + 2] photoadduct 17 containing the correct relative stereochemistry corresponding to spirolucidine.

[structure: see text] A novel C(27)N(3)-type pentacyclic Lycopodium alkaloid, lycoperine A (1) consisting of two octahydroquinoline rings and a piperidine ring, was isolated from the club moss Lycopodium hamiltonii. The structure and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of 2D NMR data and chemical transformation. Lycoperine A (1) exhibited an inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase.
