This paper presents and solves the maximum throughput dynamic network flow problem, an infinite horizon integer programming problem which involves network flows evolving over time. The model is a finite network in which the flow on each arc not only has an associated upper and lower bound but also an associated transit time. Flow is to be sent through the network in each period so as to satisfy the upper and lower bounds and conservation of flow at each node from some fixed period on. The objective is to maximize the throughput, the net flow circulating in the network in a given period, and this throughput is shown to be the same in each period. We demonstrate that among those flows with maximum throughput there is a flow which repeats every period. Moreover, a duality result shows the maximum throughput equals the minimum capacity of an appropriately defined cut. A special case of the maximum dynamic network flow problem is the problem of minimizing the number of vehicles to meet a fixed periodic schedule. Moreover, the elegantsolution derived by Ford and Fulkerson for the finite horizon maximum dynamic flow problem may be viewed as a special case of the infinite horizon maximum dynamic flow problem and the optimality of solutions which repeat every period.  相似文献

This paper considers a new class of network flows, called dynamic generative network flows in which, the flow commodity is dynamically generated at a source node and dynamically consumed at a sink node and the arc-flow bounds are time dependent. Then the maximum dynamic flow problem in such networks for a pre-specified time horizon T is defined and mathematically formulated in both arc flow and path flow presentations. By exploiting the special structure of the problem, an efficient algorithm is developed to solve the general form of the dynamic problem as a minimum cost static flow problem.  相似文献

The authors prove a sufficient stochastic maximum principle for the optimal control of a forward-backward Markov regime switching jump diffusion system and show its connection to dynamic programming principle. This paper studies a dynamic production system where multiple products must visit stations where inventories are constrained by maximum and minimum sojourn times with neither negative flow nor backlog being allowed. A resource availability constraint limits the aggregate throughput of the stations. The objective is to minimize the sum of flow and inventory cost. The problem is broken down into several single-product serial systems that serve as subroutines of a Lagrangian relaxation routine. This model is implemented in a spreadsheet so that it can be used by the officials of a Chilean institution for planning the operations and defining the optimal allocation of resources.  相似文献

The constrained maximum flow problem is to send the maximum flow from a source to a sink in a directed capacitated network where each arc has a cost and the total cost of the flow cannot exceed a budget. This problem is similar to some variants of classical problems such as the constrained shortest path problem, constrained transportation problem, or constrained assignment problem, all of which have important applications in practice. The constrained maximum flow problem itself has important applications, such as in logistics, telecommunications and computer networks. In this research, we present an efficient specialized network simplex algorithm that significantly outperforms the two widely used LP solvers: CPLEX and lp_solve. We report CPU times of an average of 27 times faster than CPLEX (with its dual simplex algorithm), the closest competitor of our algorithm.  相似文献

What we are dealing with is a class of networks called dynamic generative network flows in which the flow commodity is dynamically generated at source nodes and dynamically consumed at sink nodes. As a basic assumption, the source nodes produce the flow according to time generative functions and the sink nodes absorb the flow according to time consumption functions. This paper tries to introduce these networks and formulate minimum cost dynamic flow problem for a pre-specified time horizon T. Finally, some simple, efficient approaches are developed to solve the dynamic problem, in the general form when the capacities and costs are time varying and some other special cases, as a minimum cost static flow problem.  相似文献

We address the two-commodity maximum flow problem on undirected networks. As a result of a change of variables, we introduce a new formulation that solves the problem through classical maximum flow techniques with only one-commodity. Therefore, a general strategy, based on this change of variables, is defined to deal with other undirected multi-commodity problems. Finally, we extend the single objective problem to a bicriteria environment. We show that the set of efficient solutions of the biobjective undirected two-commodity maximum flow problem is the set of alternative optimum solutions of the undirected two-commodity maximum flow problem. In addition, we prove that the set of efficient extreme points in the objective space has, at most, cardinality two.  相似文献

The maximum flow interdiction is a class of leader–follower optimization problems that seek to identify the set of edges in a network whose interruption minimizes the maximum flow across the network. Particularly, maximum flow interdiction is important in assessing the vulnerability of networks to disruptions. In this paper, the problem is formulated as a bi-level mixed-integer program and an iterative cutting plane algorithm is proposed as a solution methodology. The cutting planes are implemented in a branch-and-cut approach that is computationally effective. Extensive computational results are presented on 336 different instances with varying parameters and with networks of sizes up to 50 nodes, 1200 edge, and 800 commodities. The computational results show that the proposed cutting plane approach has significant computational advantage over the direct solution of the monolithic formulation of the maximum flow interdiction problem for the majority of the tested instances.  相似文献

Our main concern is the maximum flow in a network in which an excess over the beforehand fixed quota of arc capacity is admissible. The problem is represented as a partially fuzzy linear programming task. A theorem equivalent to the Ford and Fulkerson one concerning the classic task of maximum flow is proved in the paper. FORD and FULKERSON have shown that a stationary maximal dynamic flow can be obtained by solving a transhipment problem associated with the static network and thereby finding the maximal temporally repeated dynamic flow. This flow is known to be an optimal dynamic flow. This paper presents the remark that temporally repeated flows may be not optimal for a minimal dynamic flow and an algorithm for such a flow. We consider the maximization of a multicommodity flow throughput in presence of constraints on the maximum number of paths to be used. Such an optimization problem is strongly NP-hard, and is known in the literature as the maximum routable demand fraction variant of the k-splittable flow problem. Here we propose an exact approach based on branch and bound rules and on an arc-flow mixed integer programming formulation of the problem. One of the problems facing the commander of support units during a combat situation is how to plan the deployment of the units under his command. This paper deals with the tactical problem of how to deploy the support units in order to achieve maximum effectiveness, given the decision of which fighting units will receive support. The problem is formulated as a dynamic decision problem that has some of the characteristics of a dynamic warehouse location problem.
