The excitation cross-sections of transitions of a ruthenium atom from the3 S 0−,3 P 0−, and3 D 0-levels are measured by the method of extended crossed beams. Based on the results of measurements, the excitation cross-sections of the states are calculated (ignoring cascade contribution). Detailed information about excitation cross-selections of spectral lines of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium atoms obtained using extended crossed beams are used for calculation of the excitation cross-sections of the3G0-levels of these atoms. Results are compared with cross-sections calculated in Born’s approximation. For titanium: it is found that theoretical predictions agree well with experimental data. Differences found for zirconium are explained by the single-configuration approximation used in the calculation. Cross-sections of the4Do-levels of a cobalt atom are determined based on the results of measurements of 880 excitation cross-sections of the CoI spectral lines. Detailed calculations of branching and cascade population are made for the levels of the terms z4Do, y4Do, and x4Do. Results of the present work and the cross sections calculated by R. K. The exciton cathode luminescence and reflection spectra are studied for pure ZnSe with deviation from stoichiometry within a bilateral homogeneity region and a sharp change in the oxygen concentration from 3·1018 to 2·1020 cm−3. It is confirmed that the exciton b and is not shifted and, consequently, that the forbidden band does not change with the oxygen concentration. This effect is interpreted on the basis of the interaction of oxygen with intrinsic point defects. It is found that dissolution, of oxygen enhances the excitonphonon interaction, which results in additional absorption within the Aex-1LO or Aex-2LO spectral region. The process of formation of excited Cs ions in simple collisions of electrons with CsI molecules was investigated by the method of extended intersecting beams. Excitation cross sections measured for CsII spectral lines were used in the calculation of cross sections for excitation of energy levels. The contribution of cascade transitions to the total cross section for excitation of an energy level was determined for certain levels. The radiation of a pulsed-periodic discharge in CCl4 has been investigated. Its spectrum is found to differ considerably from the spectrum of the glow discharge. We consider the possible evolution of the rotation period and magnetic field of the X-ray source RX J0720.4-3125, assuming that this source is an isolated neutron star accreting from the interstellar medium. The magnetic field of the source is estimated to be 106–109 G (the most probable value is about 2·108 G), and it is difficult to explain the observed rotational period 8.38 s without invoking the hypothesis of magnetic field decay. For calculations we used the model of ohmic dissipation of the field in the core of the neutron star. Estimates for the accretion rate (10−14–10−16 M/yr), velocity of the source through the interstellar medium (10–50 km/s), and neutron star age (2·109–1010 yrs) are obtained. The present work is devoted to the development of the method of laser photothermal radiometry with a view to increasing its spatial resolution over the depth of the specimen when surface layers of the substance of thickness about 1 μm or less are to be investigated. As an example, results of an investigation of radiation absorption in the surface layer of a lithium niobate crystal are presented. We have studied the effect of the nature and concentration of surfactants on the atomic absorption of iron. We show that using sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate as the modifier in flame atomic absorption determination of iron in real samples makes it possible to make the measurements in a low-temperature flame (propane-butane-air type) with increased sensitivity and selectivity and also a lower detection limit for iron. We have developed a procedure for atomic absorption determination of iron in food products using sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate as the modifier. The detection limit for iron is Cmin = 0.008 μg/cm3. The conditions for the formation of an effective photon mass in a strong magnetic field are considered. It is shown that massless photons are sterile. The method of extended intersecting beams is used for studying inelastic collisions of electrons with cesium fluoride molecules. Forty-six cross-sections for dissociative excitation of the spectral lines of a cesium atom located in the spectral region 387–825 nm were used. The behavior of the sections in the spectral series of a cesium atom is investigated, which is reflected by a power law. Collective effects in polarization bremsstrahlung generated by relativistic electrons in a polycrystalline aluminum foil are studied experimentally on the basis of the 2.4-MeV electron accelerator installed at the Institute of Nuclear Physics (Moscow State University, Moscow). A central ΛN potential containing spin and charge dependences is constructed on the basis of an analysis of fundamental hypernuclear data (Λp scattering, the binding energies of the ground and excited states of hypernuclei). The lightest hypernuclei ( Λ 3 H, Λ 4 H, Λ 4 He) are calculated as a system of three or four particles on the basis of the highly efficient variational method. Heavier hypernuclei are considered in terms of a twobody model (Λ + undeformed nucleon core) corrected by comparison with direct 3–5-particle calculations. By comparing the results of the calculations of single and double Λ hypernuclei and taking the considerations of meson theory into account, it is possible to estimate the binding energies of charmed and other (b- and t-quark) supernuclei.
