The temperature dependence of the field emission flicker noise spectral density functions has been investigated for potassium adsorbed on tungsten (112) planes by a probe hole technique. By integration of the spectral density functions W(?) = Bi??gei the noise power (δn2Δ? for different frequency intervals Δ? is obtained. From the exponential temperature dependence of (δn2Δ? noise power “activation energies” qΔ? are determined. Plots of these energies versus coverage show a similar “oscillating” behaviour as recently found for W(?j) or (δn2Δ?j which indicates phase transitions of the adsorbed potassium submonolayers. The noise activation energies are discussed in terms of existing models and a comparison is made between the experimental q values and surface diffusion energies Ed as determined by conventional methods.  相似文献

We calculate the effective electron-hole interaction Vre in the presence of an exciton gas, which reads in real space:

A review of polariton modes at interfaces composed of two semiinfinite, homogeneous, and isotropic media is given. Both media are characterized by frequency-dependent dielectric functions ?i(ω), i = 1, 2, and may become “interface-wave-active” in different frequency regions. The conditions for the existance of propagation windows are analyzed and applied to two particular cases: an interface composed of (a) two dielectrics with dielectric functions ?i = ??∞i(ω2 ωLi2ω2ωTi2, where ?t8i are the dielectric constants for very large frequencies and ωTi and ωLi are the transverse and longitudinal phonon frequencies; (b) two conductors with dielectric functions ?i = ?∞i(1 ?ωi2ω2), where ωiare the plasma frequencies. In the first case there exist two propagation windows in the infrared region, while in the second case there is one propagation window in the ultraviolet, visible, or infrared region. The dispersion relations of the modes and their decay distances into the two media are presented, and various damping effects are discussed. The review is concluded with theoretical results on the optical excitation and detection (ATR) of the interface modes.  相似文献

The apparent absence of the decay τ → ντν?1?, where ? = e or μ andνi is the spin-zero supersymmetric partner of νi, implies that the νi masses are sufficiently large that the decay is suppressed (assuming the supersymmetric partners exist). We give the resulting limits, which depend on the mass of the W? (the supersymmetric partner of the W) which mediates the decay, and on whether one or both ν is massive. The solid electrolyte Ce1?xCaxO2-?x with the fluorite-type structure (Ca-doped CeO2) is a mixed conductor. Conduction occurs predominantly by migration of O2? ions via oxygen vacancies or by electrons, depending on the departure from stoichiometry. The ionic transference number σi/σi + σe was determined as a function of dopant concentration (0.07?x?0.15), temperature (400–800°C), and oxygen pressure by emf measurements with oxygen concentration cells. It is described by
ti1 + PO2?14exp ? 5.42 ? S1(x)T4kT?1
The entropy term S1(x) changes from 38.7k for x = 0.07 to 31.7k for x = 0.15; the enthalpy term, 5.42 eV, is independent of x and in excellent accord with semi-empirical calculations.  相似文献

The adsorption of 12CO on Ir films evaporated under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions was studied using infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). Only a single absorption band was observed at 300 K, shifting continuously from the “singleton” value ~2010 cm?1 at very low coverages to 2093 cm?1 at saturation coverage. This band is attributed to CO adsorbed on top of the surface atoms. Synchronously with this shift the bandwidth at half maximum intensity Δv12 decreases from ~30 to 8 cm?1. The integrated peak area increases linearly with coverage up to a relative coverage (θr) of approximately 0.4, then the increase levels off and a maximum is observed. Upon continuing adsorption the intensity decreases slightly. In addition results are presented on adsorption at 300 K of 12CO?13CO isotopic mixtures. The coverage induced frequency shift is discussed in terms of a dipole-dipole coupling mechanism and it is concluded that intermolecular coupling can explain the shift (~83 cm?1) observed. The decrease in intensity at coverages > 0.4 is attributed to the formation of a compressed overlayer with part of the CO molecules adsorbed in a multicentre position with different spectral properties. No infrared bands of nitrogen adsorbed at 78 K could be detected at pressures up to 6.7 kPa (1 Pa = 0.0075 Torr, 1 Torr = 133.32 Pa).  相似文献

The mean energy of the giant Gamow-Teller resonance state (GTS) is studied, which is defined by the non-energy-weighted and the linearly energy-weighted sum of the strengths for ΣAi = 1τi?σi? Using Bohr and Mottelson's hamiltonian with the ξl· σ force, the difference between the mean energies of GTS and the isobaric analog state (IAS) is expressed asEGTS ?EIAS,≈ 2〈π¦ΣAi=1ξ ili· σi¦π〉/ (3T0-4(kτ?kστ) T0. The observed energy systematics is well explained by kτ?kστ≈ 4/A MeV. The relationship between the mean energies and the excitation energies of the collective states in the random phase approximation for charge-exchange excitations is discussed in a simple model. From the excitation energy systematics of GTS, the values of kστ and the Migdal parameter g′ are estimated to be about kστ = (16–24)AMeV and g′ = 0.49–0.72, respectively.  相似文献

We show that defect melting involving dislocations and disclinations is dually equivalent to an extension of an XY model with an energy of the type Σi, j{[cos(?iuj + ?jui) + ? cos ?iωj] }, where ωt = 12?tjk?juk is the local rotation field. The. model clarifies the proper choice of defect core energies arising from nonlinear elasticity. These permit the pile-up of dislocations to disclinations which is essential for the first order of the melting transition.  相似文献

The reactions pp → pp and pp → Δ++n with polarized beam and/or polarized target are currently under investigation at the Argonne ZGS. We discuss how to interpret various measured quantities in terms of amplitudes whose behavior is familiar (as functions of s, t). For pp total cross sections and elastic scattering, Argonne measurements will yield Im ?2 (s,t = 0) and the rather complicated combination 2|?5|2 + Re (?1?21 ? ?3?41), where ?i (i = 1, … 5) are conventional s-channel helicity amplitudes. The forward direction (t = 0) is of special interest. We find that for both pp → pp and pp → Δ++n, polarized beam — polarized target experiments plus the rather general (testable) assumption that amplitudes with the same s-channel helicity flip quantum numbers are proportional, are sufficient to fully determine all non-vanishing amplitudes at t = 0. Numerical estimates of some observables, based on calculations in a specific model, are also given.  相似文献

The 0-0, 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3 bands of the A2Π-X2Σ+ transition of the tritiated beryllium monohydride molecule have been observed at 5000 Å in emission using a beryllium hollow-cathode discharge in a He + T2 mixture. The rotational analysis of these bands yields the following principal molecular constants.
A2Π:Be = 4.192 cm?1; re = 1.333 A?
X2Σ:Be = 4.142 cm?1; re = 1.341 A?
ωe′ ? ωe″ = 16.36 cm?1; ωe′Xe′ ? ωe″Xe″ = 0.84 cm?1
From the pure electronic energy difference (EΠ - EΣ)BeT = 20 037.91 ± 1.5 cm?1 and the corresponding previously known values for BeH and BeD, the following electronic isotope shifts are derived
ΔEei(BeH?BeT) = ?4.7 ≠ 1.5cm1, ΔEei(BeH?BeT) = ?1.8 ≠ 1.5cm1
and related to the theoretical approach given by Bunker to the problem of the breakdown of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation.  相似文献

The influence of self-fields on the equilibrium and stability properties of relativistic beam-plasma systems is studied within the framework of the Vlasov-Maxwell equations. The analysis is carried out in linear geometry, where the relativistic electron beam propagates through a background plasma (assumed nonrelativistic) along a uniform guide field B0e?z, It is assumed that νγ0 ? 1 for the beam electrons (ν is Budker's parameter, and γ0mc2 is the electron energy), but no a priori assumption is made that the beam density is small (or large) in comparison with the plasma density, or that conditions of charge neutrality or current neutrality prevail in equilibrium. It is shown that the equilibrium self-electric and self-magnetic fields, Ers(r)e?r and Bθs(r)e?θ, can have a large effect on equilibrium and stability behavior. Equilibrium properties are calculated for beam (j = b) and plasma (j = e, i) distribution functions of the form fb0(H, Pθ, Pz) = F(H ? ωrbPθ) × δ(Pz ? P0)(j = b), and fj0(H, Pθ, Pz) = fj0(H ? ωrjPθ ? VjPz ? miVj22) (j = e, i), where H is the energy, Pθ is the canonical angular momentum, Pz is the axial canonical momentum, and ωrj (the angular velocity of mean rotation for j = b, e, i), Vj (the mean axial velocity for j = e, i), and P0 are constants. The linearized Vlasov-Maxwell equations are then used to investigate stability properties in circumstances where the equilibrium densities of the various components (j = b, e, i) are approximately constant. The corresponding electrostatic dispersion relation and ordinary-mode electromagnetic dispersion relation are derived (including self-field effects) for body-wave perturbations localized to the beam interior (r <Rb). These dispersion relations are analyzed in the limit of a cold beam and cold plasma background, to illustrate the basic effect that lack of charge neutrality and/or current neutrality can have on the two-stream and filamentation instabilities. It is shown that relative rotation (induced by self-fields) between the various components (j = b, e, i) can (a) result in modified two-stream instability for propagation nearly perpendicular to B0e?z, and (b) significantly extend the band of unstable kz-values for axial two-stream instability. Moreover, in circumstances where the beam-plasma system is charge-neutralized but not current-neutralized, it is shown that the azimuthal self-magnetic field Bθs(r)e?θ has a stabilizing influence on the filamentation instability for ordinary-mode propagation perpendicular to B0e?z.  相似文献

The adsorption of oxygen on polycrystalline palladium, the kinetics of the reaction of adsorbed oxygen with carbon monoxide and the amount of adsorbed oxygen present during the catalyzed reaction, CO + 12O2 → CO2, were studied by Auger electron spectroscopy. At temperatures below 783 K, the initial sticking probability is high (~0.8). Adsorbed oxygen and CO react with high probability and low activation energy to form carbon dioxide. The reaction is first order with respect to carbon monoxide pressure and zero order in oxygen coverage. Oxygen coverages measured during the CO-oxidation reaction decrease sharply around PCO ? PO2 and are very small when PCO >PO2. The reaction kinetics are discussed using a modified Eley-Rideal mechanism involving strongly adsorbed oxygen atoms and surface carbon monoxide in a short-lived state. The oxygen adsorption phenomena are correlated with the reaction kinetics.  相似文献

Anharmonicity in lattice potential leads to boundedness of the eigenvalue Spectrum of the phonon collision operator. Considering the deviation, ψq, in the distribution function of the phonons Nq, Nq = N?q + N?qψq(N? + 1). bar denoting equilibrium value, as an odd function of the phonon wave vector q it has been possible to obtain a lower bound, μ, on the eigenvalue spectrum of the phonon collision operator P. This satisfies the inequelity relation 0?μ?pi?λ, where pi are the eigenvalue of P, and λ is an upper bound on it (as given by Benin). The occurence of μ ensures for the possibility of obtaining a sequence of upper bounds on the lattice thermal transport coefficient.  相似文献

Theory of second harmonic generation at a metal surface is developed, when surface plasmon-polaritons are resonantly excited by the incident electromagnetic field. For harmonic generation from small metallic spheres characterized by the dielectric function ?1(ω) + i?2(ω), the resonant enhancement of the second harmonic intensity is predicted to be of the order of (?1?2)4.
