Bounds on nonlinear operators in finite-dimensional banach spaces   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Summary We consider Lipschitz-continuous nonlinear maps in finite-dimensional Banach and Hilbert spaces. Boundedness and monotonicity of the operator are characterized quantitatively in terms of certain functionals. These functionals are used to assess qualitative properties such as invertibility, and also enable a generalization of some well-known matrix results directly to nonlinear operators. Closely related to the numerical range of a matrix, the Gerschgorin domain is introduced for nonlinear operators. This point set in the complex plane is always convex and contains the spectrum of the operator's Jacobian matrices. Finally, we focus on nonlinear operators in Hilbert space and hint at some generalizations of the von Neumann spectral theory.  相似文献

We construct non-random bounded discrete half-line Schrödinger operators which have purely singular continuous spectral measures with fractional Hausdorff dimension (in some interval of energies). To do this we use suitable sparse potentials. Our results also apply to whole line operators, as well as to certain random operators. In the latter case we prove and compute an exact dimension of the spectral measures.  相似文献

The results provided hereby are related to the asymptotic behaviour of certain strongly continuous semigroups, which may be expressed in terms of iterates of positive linear operators, in the sense of Altomare’s theory. The paper is devoted to study of singular integral operators with fixed singularities at endpoints of contours on weighted Lebesgue spaces with general Muckenhoupt weights. Compactness of certain integral operators with fixed singularities is established. The membership of singular integral operators with fixed singularities to Banach algebras of singular integral operators on weighted Lebesgue spaces with slowly oscillating Muckenhoupt weights is proved on the basis of Balakrishnans formula from the theory of strongly continuous semi-groups of closed linear operators. Symbol calculus for such operators, Fredholm criteria and index formulas are obtained.  相似文献

We establish Fredholm criteria and index formulas for one-dimensional zero-order pseudodifferential operators with piecewise continuous generating functions onL p spaces with Muckenhoupt weights. The Fredholm symbol of such operators is shown to be a matrix function defined on a set which, roughly speaking, is a cylinder with a certain collection of horn shaped handles. The presence of these horns implies that, unlike the case ofL p spaces without weight or with so-called power weights, the spectrum may contain heavy parts, i. e. the set of the interior points of the spectrum need not be empty. Our proof makes essential use of recent results by Finck, Roch, Silbermann, Gohberg, and Krupnik on the inverse closedness of certain Banach algebras.Research supported by the Alfried Krupp Förderpreis für junge Hochschullehrer of the Krupp Foundation.  相似文献

This article centers around the relation between the spectra of two Banach space operators that are linked by some intertwining condition such as quasi-similarity. Certain conditions from local spectral theory are shown to be both necessary and sufficient for these operators to have equal spectra, approximate point spectra, or surjectivity spectra. A key role is played by a localized version of Bishop’s classical property (β) and a related closed range condition. As an application to harmonic analysis, the measures on a locally compact abelian group that avoid the Wiener-Pitt phenomenon are characterized in terms of local spectral theory.  相似文献

The Gleason-Kahane-Zelazko theorem characterizes the continuous homo-morphism of an associative, locally multiplicatively convex, sequentially complete algebra A into the field C among all linear forms on A. This characterization will be applied along two different directions. In the case in which A is a commutative Banach algebra, the theorem yields the representation of some classes of continuous linear maps A:A→A as weighted composition operators, or as composition operators when A is a continuous algebra endomorphism. The theorem will then be applied to explore the behaviour of continuous linear forms on quasi-regular elements, when A is either the algebra of all Hilbert-Schmidt operators or a Hilbert algebra.  相似文献

We study representations of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra and a variety of Lie algebras, e.g., su(2), related through various aspects of the spectral theory of self-adjoint operators, the theory of orthogonal polynomials, and basic quantum theory. The approach taken here enables extensions from the one-variable case to be made in a natural manner. Extensions to certain infinite-dimensional Lie algebras (continuous tensor products, q-analogs) can be found as well. Particularly, we discuss the relationship between generating functions and representations of Lie algebras, spectral theory for operators that lead to systems of orthogonal polynomials and, importantly, the precise connection between the representation theory of Lie algebras and classical probability distributions is presented via the notions of quantum probability theory. Coincidentally, our theory is closed connected to the study of exponential families with quadratic variance in statistical theory.  相似文献

We study convolution operators on weighted Lebesgue spaces and obtain weight characterisations for boundedness of these operators with certain kernels. Our main result is Theorem 3 which enables us to obtain results for certain kernel functions supported on bounded intervals; in particular we get a direct proof of the known characterisations for Steklov operators in Section 3 by using the weighted Hardy inequality. Our methods also enable us to obtain new results for other kernel functions in Section 4. In Section 5 we demonstrate that these convolution operators are related to operators arising from the Weiss Conjecture (for scalar-valued observation functionals) in linear systems theory, so that results on convolution operators provide elementary examples of nearly bounded semigroups not satisfying the Weiss Conjecture. Also we apply results on the Weiss Conjecture for contraction semigroups to obtain boundedness results for certain convolution operators.  相似文献

In this paper a characterization is obtained of those bounded operators on a Hilbert space at which the spectrum is continuous, where the spectrum is considered as a function whose domain is the set of all operators with the norm topology and whose range is the set of compact subsets of the plane with the Hausdorff metric. Similar characterizations of the points of continuity of the Weyl spectrum, the spectral radius, and the essential spectral radius are also obtained.The first author was supported by National Science Foundation Grant MCS 77-28396.  相似文献

We construct conjugate operators for the real part of a completely non-unitary isometry and we give applications to the spectral and scattering theory of a class of operators on (complete) Fock spaces, natural generalizations of the Schrödinger operators on trees. We consider C*-algebras generated by such Hamiltonians with certain types of anisotropy at infinity, we compute their quotient with respect to the ideal of compact operators, and give formulas for the essential spectrum of these Hamiltonians.  相似文献

It is well known that not every summability property for multilinear operators leads to a factorization theorem. In this paper we undertake a detailed study of factorization schemes for summing linear and nonlinear operators. Our aim is to integrate under the same theory a wide family of classes of mappings for which a Pietsch type factorization theorem holds. Our construction includes the cases of absolutely p-summing linear operators, (p, σ)-absolutely continuous linear operators, factorable strongly p-summing multilinear operators, (p1,?. . .?, pn)-dominated multilinear operators and dominated (p1,?. . .?, pn; σ)-continuous multilinear operators.  相似文献

We consider Sturm–Liouville operators in the half axis generated by shifts of the potential and prove that Lebesgue measure is equivalent to a measure defined as an average of spectral measures which correspond to these operators. This is then used to obtain results on stability of spectral types under change of parameters such as boundary conditions, local perturbations, and shifts. In particular if for a set of shifts of positive measure the corresponding operators have α-singular, singular continuous and (or) point spectrum in a fixed interval, then this set of shifts has to be unbounded. Moreover, there are large sets of boundary conditions and local perturbations for which the corresponding operators enjoy the same property.  相似文献

Abstract

Suppose X is a locally compact Hausdorff space and C (X) the apace of all continuous complex valued functions on X which vanish at infinity. Let T be a (complex) linear lattice homomorphism on Co (X) whose adjoint is also a lattice homomorphism. It is sham that every non-zero isolated point of the approximate point spectrum of T lies in the point spectrum of T. An example is given to show that the exclusion of zero is necessary, even when X is compact. The same techniques are then used to show that if also the spectrum of T is finite then T can be written, in a natural manner, as a direct sum of two such lattice homomorphisms; one being an n'th root of an invertible multiplication operator and the other quasi-nilpotent.  相似文献

Parametric factorizations of linear partial operators on the plane are considered for operators of orders two, three and four. The operators are assumed to have a completely factorable symbol. It is proved that “irreducible” parametric factorizations may exist only for a few certain types of factorizations. Examples are given of the parametric families for each of the possible types. For the operators of orders two and three, it is shown that any factorization family is parameterized by a single univariate function (which can be a constant function).   相似文献
