In this work we quantify the local aromaticity of six-membered rings in a series of planar and bowl-shaped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and fullerenes. The evaluation of local aromaticity has been carried out through the use of structurally (HOMA) and magnetically (NICS) based measures, as well as by the use of a new electronically based indicator of aromaticity, the para delocalization index (PDI), which is defined as the average of all the Bader delocalization indices between para-related carbon atoms in six-membered rings. The series of PAHs selected includes C(10)H(8), C(12)H(8), C(14)H(8), C(20)H(10), C(26)H(12), and C(30)H(12), with benzene and C(60) taken as references. The change in the local aromaticity of the six-membered rings on going from benzene to C(60) is analyzed. Finally, we also compare the aromaticity of C(60) with that of C(70), open [5,6]- and closed [6,6]-C(60)NH systems, and C(60)F(18).  相似文献

The radical anions of 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene ( 9 ), 5 H-dibenzo[c,f][1,2]diazepine ( 10 ), 5,6-dihydrodibenzo[a,e]cyclooctene ( 11 ), 5,6-dihydrodibenzo[c,g][1,2]diazocine ( 12 ), and (E)-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3,4-diphenylhex-3-ene ( 13 ) were characterized by ESR and ENDOR spectroscopy. Their hyperfine data were compared with those previously reported for radical anions also containing the stilbene or the azobenzene π-system. Whereas the π-spin distribution in the radical anions of the stilbene series is only moderately sensitive to deviations of the π-system from planarity, the radical anions of the azobenzene series respond to steric strain by shifting the π-spin population from the benzene rings to the azo group. This finding is impressively demonstrated by the similar hyperfine data for 9 · ? and 11 · ? which contrast with the strongly highly hindered 13 · ?. A. plausible interpretation is readily provided by the electron affinities of the constituent π-moieties in stilbene and azobenzene. While those of benzene and ethene are both comparatively low, the azo group has a considerably higher electron affinity.  相似文献

A method capable of determining 13 PAHs (acenaphthene, anthracene, benzo[a]anthracene, benzo[a]pyrene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, chrysene, dibenzo[ah]anthracene, fluoranthene, fluorene, indene[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, phenanthrene and pyrene) in a mixture of 16 EPA PAHs by second derivative synchronous spectrofluorometry in the constant wavelength mode was developed. It has not been possible to determine the following PAHs in the mixture: acenaphthylene, benzo[ghi]perylene and naphthalene. The approach studied allows the sensitive, rapid and inexpensive identification and quantitation of 13 PAHs in a solution of hexane. The detection limits are <1 microg L(-1) (except for chrysene and phenanthrene).  相似文献

The local aromaticity of the six-membered rings in three series of benzenoid compounds, namely, the [n]acenes, [n]phenacenes, and [n]helicenes for n = 1-9, has been assessed by means of three probes of local aromaticity based on structural, magnetic, and electron delocalization properties. For [n]acenes our analysis shows that the more reactive inner rings are more aromatic than the outer rings. For [n]phenacenes, all indicators of aromaticity show that the external rings are the most aromatic. From the external to the central ring, the local aromaticity varies in a damped alternate way. The trends for the [n]helicene series are the same as those found for [n]phenacenes. Despite the departure from planarity in [n]helicenes, only a very slight loss of aromaticity is detected in [n]helicenes as compared to the corresponding [n]phenacenes. Finally, because of magnetic couplings between superimposed six-membered rings in the higher members of the [n]helicenes series, we have demonstrated that the NICS indicator of aromaticity artificially increases the local aromaticity of their most external rings.  相似文献

The primary structure of 3'-imino[60]fulleryl-3'-deoxythymidine ions is studied using mass spectrometry both in the positive and negative modes. Interaction between the subunits is discussed using collision-induced dissociation (CID) spectra. Collisional activation with argon of the sodiated cations leads to the cleavage of the glycosidic bond and the transfer of a radical hydrogen from the deoxyribose to the thymine. The sodiated thymine is the only fragment observed for low collision energies in the positive mode. In the negative mode, two different ionization mechanisms take place, reduction and deprotonation in the presence of triethylamine. The 2.7 eV electron affinity of C60 and its huge cross section compared to the small cross section and predicted 0.44 eV electron affinity of the thymidine subunit most likely localize the radical electron on the fullerene. On the other hand, deprotonation of the 3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidine (AZT) is known to occur in N-3, the most acidic site of the nucleobase. Consequently, deprotonation causes the negative charge to be initially localized on the thymine. Both types of parent anions give the radical anion C60*- as fragment. The other fragments detected are the dehydrogenated 3'-imino[60]fulleryl-3'-deoxyribose anion, C60NH2-, C60N- and C60H-. Since in negative ion mass spectrometry all fragments include the [60]fullerene unit, this suggests that the fragmentation is driven by the electron affinity of the [60]fullerene, likely responsible for a charge transfer between the deprotonated thymine and the C60.  相似文献

Aromaticity is of continuing interest to the organic chemical community. We recently presented a model for the aromaticity of carbocyclic and heterocyclic derivatives of indane and indene, i.e. species defined as benzenes fused to 5-membered rings. The current note extends this model to related derivatives of tetralin and naphthalene, benzenes fused to 6-membered rings. Explicit species discussed herein are: benzopyran, both α- and β-tetralone, coumarin and quinoline.  相似文献

A rigid propeller-shaped conjugated triple macrocycle consisting of two nearly perfectly stacked benzene rings and three linking [5]helicene moieties has been synthesized using a glyoxylic Perkin approach. Analysis of the electron delocalization in this atypical aromatic molecule revealed global aromaticity and a 78 π-electron circuit along the edge of its triple loop, to the detriment of the two 6 π-electron circuits in the two stacked benzene rings.  相似文献

The minimal essential section of DNA helices, the dinucleoside phosphate deoxyguanylyl-3',5'-deoxycytidine dimer octahydrate, [dGpdC](2), has been constructed, fully optimized, and analyzed by using quantum chemical methods at the B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory. Study of the electrons attached to [dGpdC](2) reveals that DNA double strands are capable of capturing low-energy electrons and forming electronically stable radical anions. The relatively large vertical electron affinity (VEA) predicted for [dGpdC](2) (0.38 eV) indicates that the cytosine bases are good electron captors in DNA double strands. The structure, charge distribution, and molecular orbital analysis for the fully optimized radical anion [dGpdC](2)(·-) suggest that the extra electron tends to be redistributed to one of the cytosine base moieties, in an electronically stable structure (with adiabatic electron affinity (AEA) 1.14 eV and vertical detachment energy (VDE) 2.20 eV). The structural features of the optimized radical anion [dGpdC](2)(·-) also suggest the probability of interstrand proton transfer. The interstrand proton transfer leads to a distonic radical anion [d(G-H)pdC:d(C+H)pdG](·-), which contains one deprotonated guanine anion and one protonated cytosine radical. This distonic radical anion is predicted to be more stable than [dGpdC](2)(·-). Therefore, experimental evidence for electron attachment to the DNA double helices should be related to [d(G-H)pdC:d(C+H)pdG](·-) complexes, for which the VDE might be as high as 2.7 eV (in dry conditions) to 3.3 eV (in fully hydrated conditions). Effects of the polarizable medium have been found to be important for increasing the electron capture ability of the dGpdC dimer. The ultimate AEA value for cytosine in DNA duplexes is predicted to be 2.03 eV in aqueous solution.  相似文献

Benzene, the classic organic molecule obeying Hückel′s rule of aromaticity, has negative electron affinity (EA), namely ?1.15 eV. By using density functional theory with hybrid functional for exchange and correlation potential, we show that a series of organic molecules created by changing either the benzene core or the ligands, or both, result in species with EAs that range from 2.15 to 5.37 eV. This shows that ligand substitution is more effective than aromaticity in increasing the EA of organic molecules. The ability to create highly electronegative organic molecules by functionalizing benzene may provide new opportunities for synthesizing organic oxidizing agents with potential new applications.  相似文献

In 1966, Zimmerman proposed a type of Möbius aromaticity that involves through-space electron delocalization; it has since been widely applied to explain reactivity in pericyclic reactions, but is considered to be limited to transition-state structures. Although the easily accessible hexahelicene radical anion has been known for more than half a century, it was overlooked that it exhibits a ground-state minimum and robust Zimmerman-Möbius aromaticity in its central noose-like opening, becoming, hence, the oldest existing Möbius aromatic system and with smallest Möbius cycle known. Despite its overall aromatic stabilization energy of 13.6 kcal mol−1 (at B3LYP/6-311+G**), the radical also features a strong, globally induced paramagnetic ring current along its outer edge. Exclusive global paramagnetic currents can also be found in other fully delocalized radical anions of 4N+2 π-electron aromatic polycyclic benzenoid hydrocarbons (PAH), thus questioning the established magnetic criterion of antiaromaticity. As an example of a PAH with nontrivial topology, we studied a novel Möbius[16]cyclacene that has a non-orientable surface manifold and a stable closed-shell singlet ground state at several density functional theory levels. Its metallic monoanion radical (0.0095 eV band gap at HSE06/6-31G* level) is also wave-function stable and displays an unusual 4π-periodic, magnetically induced ring current (reminiscent of the transformation behaviour of spinors under spatial rotation), thus indicating the existence of a new, Hückel-rule-evading type of aromaticity.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] The adiabatic electron affinity (EA(ad)) of the CH(3)-C[triple bond]C(*) radical [experiment = 2.718 +/- 0.008 eV] and the gas-phase basicity of the CH(3)-C[triple bond]C:(-) anion [experiment = 373.4 +/- 2 kcal/mol] have been compared with those of their fluorine derivatives. The latter are studied using theoretical methods. It is found that there are large effects on the electron affinities and gas-phase basicities as the H atoms of the alpha-CH(3) group in the propynyl system are substituted by F atoms. The predicted electron affinities are 3.31 eV (FCH(2)-C[triple bond]C(*)), 3.86 eV (F(2)CH-C[triple bond]C(*)), and 4.24 eV (F(3)C-C[triple bond]C(*)), and the predicted gas-phase basicities of the fluorocarbanion derivatives are 366.4 kcal/mol (FCH(2)-C[triple bond]C:(-)), 356.6 kcal/mol (F(2)CH-C[triple bond]C:(-)), and 349.8 kcal/mol (F(3)C-C[triple bond]C:(-)). It is concluded that the electron affinities of fluoropropynyl radicals increase and the gas-phase basicities decrease as F atoms sequentially replace H atoms of the alpha-CH(3) in the propynyl system. The propargyl radicals, lower in energy than the isomeric propynyl radicals, are also examined and their electron affinities are predicted to be 0.98 eV ((*)CH(2)-C[triple bond]CH), 1.18 eV ((*)CFH-C[triple bond]CH), 1.32 eV ((*)CF(2)-C[triple bond] CH), 1.71 eV ((*)CH(2)-C[triple bond]CF), 2.05 eV ((*)CFH-C[triple bond]CF), and 2.23 eV ((*)CF(2)-C[triple bond]CF).  相似文献

A computational study of the isomers of tetrafluorinated [2.2]cyclophanes persubstituted in one ring, namely F4-[2.2]paracyclophane (4), F4-anti-[2.2]metacyclophane (5a), F4-syn-[2.2]metacyclophane (5b), and F4-[2.2]metaparacyclophane (6a and 6b), was carried out. The effects of fluorination on the geometries, relative energies, local and global aromaticity, and strain energies of the bridges and rings were investigated. An analysis of the electron density by B3PW91/6-31+G(d,p), B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p), and MP2/6-31+G(d,p) was carried out using the natural bond orbitals (NBO), natural steric analysis (NSA), and atoms in molecules (AIM) methods. The analysis of frontier molecular orbitals (MOs) was also employed. The results indicated that the molecular structure of [2.2]paracyclophane is the most affected by the fluorination. Isodesmic reactions showed that the fluorinated rings are more strained than the nonfluorinated ones. The NICS, HOMA, and PDI criteria evidenced that the fluorination affects the aromaticity of both the fluorinated and the nonfluorinated rings. The NBO and NSA analyses gave an indication that the fluorination increases not only the number of through-space interactions but also their magnitude. The AIM analysis suggested that the through-space interactions are restricted to the F4-[2.2]metacyclophanes. In addition, the atomic properties, computed over the atomic basins, gave evidence that not only the substitution, but also the position of the bridges could affect the atomic charges, the first atomic moments, and the atomic volumes.  相似文献

The synthesis of the cyclooctatetraene dianion (COT(2-)) fused at the [e]-position of trans-10b,10c-dimethyl-10b,10c-dihydropyrene (DHP) is described, and by comparison of (1)H NMR properties and NICSAv to the analogous benzene fused DHP, the relative aromaticity of the dianion is found to be at least as great as that of benzene, and substantially larger than that of the cyclopentadienide anion.  相似文献

The B3LYP/DZP++ level of theory has been employed to investigate the structures and energetics of the deprotonated adenine-uracil base pairs, (AU-H)-. Formation of the lowest-energy structure, [A(N9)-U]- (which corresponds to deprotonation at the N9 atom of adenine), through electron attachment to the corresponding neutral is accompanied by proton transfer from the uracil N3 atom to the adenine N1 atom. The driving force for this proton transfer is a significant stabilization from the base pairing in the proton transferred form. Such proton transfer upon electron attachment is also observed for the [A(N6b)-U]- and [A(C2)-U]- anions. Electron attachment to the A-U(N3) radical causes strong lone pair repulsion between the adenine N1 and the uracil N3 atoms, driving the two bases apart. Similarly, lone pair repulsion in the anion A(N6a)-U causes the loss of coplanarity of the two base units. The computed adiabatic electron attachment energies for nine AU-H radicals range from 1.86 to 3.75 eV, implying that the corresponding (AU-H)- anions are strongly bound. Because of the large AEAs of the (AU-H) radicals, the C-H and N-H bond dissociation in the AU- base pair anions requires less energy than the neutral AU base pair. The computed C-H and N-H bond dissociation energies for the AU- anion (i.e., the AU base pair plus one electron) are in the range 1.0-3.2 eV, while those for neutral AU are 4.08 eV or higher.  相似文献

The adiabatic electron affinities (AEAs), vertical electron affinities (VEAs), and vertical detachment energies (VDEs) of cyclic perfluoroalkanes, c-C(n)F(2n) (n = 3-7), and their monotrifluoromethyl derivatives were computed using various pure and hybrid density functionals with DZP++ (polarization and diffuse function augmented double-zeta) basis sets. The theoretical AEA of c-C(4)F(8) at KMLYP/DZP++ is 0.70 eV, which exhibits satisfactory agreement with the 0.63 +/- 0.05 eV experimental value. The nonzero-point-corrected AEA of c-C(4)F(8) is predicted to be 0.41 eV at the CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ//MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory, which shows a slight deviation of 0.11 eV from the KMLYP estimated value of 0.52 eV for the same. With the zero-point correction from the MP2/6-311G(d) [Gallup, G. A. Chem. Phys. Lett. 2004, 399, 206] level of theory combined with the CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ//MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ result, the most reliable estimate of AEA of c-C(4)F(8) is 0.60 eV. c-C(3)F(6)(-), c-C(4)F(8)(-), and c-C(5)F(10)(-) are unusual in preferring planar to near planar ring structures. The ZPE-corrected AEAs of c-C(n)F(2n) increase from n = 3 (0.24 eV) to n = 5 (0.77 eV), but then dramatically fall off to 0.40 eV for both n = 6 and n = 7. All of the other functionals predict the same trend. This is due to a change in the structural preference: C(s)() c-C(6)F(12)(-) and C(1) c-C(7)F(14)(-) are predicted to favor nonplanar rings, each with an exceptionally long C-F bond. (There also is a second, higher energy D3d minimum for C(6)F(12)(-).) The SOMOs as well as the spin density plots of the c-PFA radical anions reveal that the "extra" electron is largely localized on the unique F atoms in the larger n = 6 and n = 7 rings but is delocalized in the multiatom SOMOs of the three- to five-membered ring radical anions. The computed AEAs are much larger than the corresponding VEAs; the latter are not consistent with different functionals. The AEAs are substantially larger when a c-C(n)()F(2)(n)() fluorine is replaced by a -CF(3) group. This behavior is general; PFAs with tertiary C-F bonds have large AEAs. The VDEs for all the anions are substantial, ranging from 1.89 to 3.64 eV at the KMLYP/DZP++ level.  相似文献

The UV photoelectron spectra of several tetracyclic heteroaromatic compounds (2-9) which are pi-isoelectronic with triphenylene (1) have been recorded and analysed making use of semiempirical AM1 and PM3 as well as ab initio/DFT B3LYP calculations. In one series of compounds (2-7), the peripheral benzene rings of 1 are successively substituted by thiophene rings that are either [b]- or [c]-annellated with the central benzene unit. In 2-7 only marginal shifts are found for most of the IPs of electrons. In the benzotrithiophenes 5-7, a systematic variation is displayed by IP(pi7). Compared to 1, the pi electron system of benzo[c]trithiophene (7) is approximately two times as much destabilized as in the isomers 5 and 6 with [b]annellated thiophene rings. The IP[n(S)] values of the thiophene derivatives 2-7 indicate that these orbitals are clearly destabilized relative to thiophene. The same holds for the n(O) orbital of the furane derivative 9 in comparison with that of furane. In 9, only the higher pi MOs (pi7-pi9) are destabilized whereas the lower levels (pi1-pi4) are stabilized, and those in between (pi5-pi6) remain essentially unshifted. In the pyrrole derivative 8, all pi MOs are substantially destabilized by about 0.5-1.6 eV relative to 1.  相似文献

Pentalenes represent highly reactive Hückel antiaromatics with 8π electrons. Usually, pentalenes are stabilized by incorporation of two benzene rings in a fused fashion. In dibenzo[a ,e ]pentalenes, however, the high aromaticity of the fused benzene rings compromises the inherent antiaromaticity of the pentalene core. Herein, we disclose that this forfeited antiaromaticity can be restored by fusing four additional aromatic rings onto the peripheral positions of dibenzo[a,e]pentalenes. Such polycyclic pentalenes were prepared by successive transannular cyclizations via in situ‐generated tetrakisdehydro[16]annulenes. The thus obtained compounds showed intriguing properties, for example, characteristic absorptions in the visible‐to‐near‐infrared (NIR) region and low reduction potentials. These results hence afford a design principle to produce highly antiaromatic yet stable pentalenes. The antiaromaticity of the pentalene core can be widely tuned via the degree of aromaticity of the peripherally fused rings.  相似文献

Valence and dipole-bound negative ions of the nitroethane (NE) molecule and its clusters are studied using photoelectron spectroscopy (PES), Rydberg electron transfer (RET) techniques, and ab initio methods. Valence adiabatic electron affinities (EA(a)s) of NE, C(2)H(5)NO(2), and its clusters, (C(2)H(5)NO(2))(n), n=2-5, are estimated using vibrationally unresolved PES to be 0.3+/-0.2 eV (n=1), 0.9+/-0.2 eV (n=2), 1.5+/-0.2 eV (n=3), 1.9+/-0.2 eV (n=4), and 2.1+/-0.2 eV (n=5). These energies were then used to determine stepwise anion-neutral solvation energies and compared with previous literature values. Vertical detachment energies for (C(2)H(5)NO(2))(n)(-) were also measured to be 0.92+/-0.10 eV (n=1), 1.63+/-0.10 eV (n=2), 2.04+/-0.10 eV (n=3), and 2.3+/-0.1 eV (n=4). RET experiments show that Rydberg electrons can be attached to NE both as dipole-bound and valence bound anion states. The results are similar to those found for nitromethane (NM), where it was argued that the diffuse dipole state act as a "doorway state" to the more tightly bound valence anion. Using previous models for relating the maximum in the RET dependence of the Rydberg effective principle number n(max)(*), the dipole-bound electron affinity is predicted to be approximately 25 meV. However, a close examination of the RET cross section data for NE and a re-examination of such data for NM finds a much broader dependence on n(*) than is seen for RET in conventional dipole bound states and, more importantly, a pronounced [l] dependence is found in n(max)(*) (n(max)(*) increases with [l]). Ab initio calculations agree well with the experimental results apart from the vertical electron affinity value associated with the dipole bound state which is predicted to be 8 meV. Moreover, the calculations help to visualize the dramatic difference in the distributions of the excess electron for dipole-bound and valence states, and suggest that NE clusters form only anions where the excess electron localizes on a single monomer.  相似文献

A series of novel calixpyrrole-like macrocycles, calix[n]bis(pyrrol-2-yl)benzene (calix[n]BPBs, n=2-4) 9 a-11 a, have been synthesized by means of the TFA-catalyzed condensation reaction of bis(pyrrol-2-yl)benzene 8 a with acetone. Calix[2]BPB 9 a represents an expanded version of calix[4]pyrrole in which two of the four meso bridges are replaced by benzene rings. By contrast, systems 10 a and 11 a, which bear great considerable to calixbipyrroles 2 and 3, represent higher homologues of the basic calix[n]BPB motif. Solution-phase anion binding studies, carried out by means of (1)H NMR spectroscopic titrations in [D2]dichloromethane and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) in 1,2-dichloroethane, reveal that 9 a binds typical small anions with substantially higher affinities than 1, even though the same number of hydrogen bonding donor groups are found in both compounds. The basic building block for 9 a, benzene dipyrrole 8 a, also displays a higher affinity for anions than the building block for 1, dimethyldipyrromethane 16. Structural studies, carried out by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, are consistent with the solution-phase results and reveal that 9 a is able to stabilize complexes with chloride and nitrate in the solid state. Structures of the PF6- and NO3- complexes of 10 a were also solved as were those of the acetone adduct of 9 a and the ethyl acetate adduct of 11 a.  相似文献
