We investigate the dynamic susceptibility and one-dimensional density of states in an initially sinusoidal superlattice containing simultaneously 2D phase inhomogeneities simulating correlated rough-nesses of superlattice interfaces and 3D amplitude inhomogeneities of the superlattice layer materials. The analytic expression for the averaged Green’s function of the sinusoidal superlattice with two phase inhomogeneities is derived in the Bourret approximation. It is shown that the effect of increasing asymmetry in the peak heights of dynamic susceptibility at the Brillouin zone boundary of the superlattice, which was discovered earlier [15] upon an increase in root-mean-square (rms) fluctuations, also takes place upon an increase in the correlation wavenumber of inhomogeneities. However, the peaks in this case also become closer, and the width and depth of the gap in the density of states decrease thereby. It is shown that the enhancement of rms fluctuations of 3D amplitude inhomogeneities in a superlattice containing 2D phase inhomogeneities suppresses the effect of dynamic susceptibility asymmetry and leads to a slight broadening of the gap in the density of states and a decrease in its depth. Targeted experiments aimed at detecting the effects studied here would facilitate the development of radio-spectroscopic and optical methods for identifying the presence of inhomogeneities of various dimensions in multilayer magnetic and optical structures.  相似文献

We investigate the high-frequency susceptibility (Green function) of an initially sinusoidal 1D superlattice with 2D phase inhomogeneities that model the deformations of the interfaces between the superlattice layers. For waves propagating along the superlattice axis (the geometry of a photon or magnon crystal), we have found a peculiar behavior of the imaginary part of the Green function that consists in a significant difference between the peaks corresponding to the edges of the band gap in the wave spectrum. The peak corresponding to the lower-frequency band edge remains essentially unchanged as the root-mean-square fluctuation of the 2D inhomogeneities γ2 increases, while the peak corresponding to the higher-frequency band edge broaden and decreases sharply in height until its complete disappearance with increasing γ2. This behavior of the peaks corresponds to a band gap closure mechanism that differs from the traditional one characteristic of 1D and 3D inhomogeneities. These effects can be explained by a peculiarity of the energy conservation laws for the incident and scattered waves for 2D inhomogeneities in a 1D superlattice.  相似文献

The effect of one-(1D) and three-dimensional (3D) inhomogeneities on the high-frequency magnetic susceptibility at the boundary of the first Brillouin zone of a ferromagnetic superlattice is studied. The study is performed with an earlier developed method of random spatial modulation (RSM) of the superlattice period. In this method, structural inhomogeneities are described in terms of the random-phase model, in which the phase depends on three coordinates in the general case. The frequency spacing Δνm between two peaks in the imaginary part of the averaged Green’s function, which characterizes the gap width in the frequency spectrum at the boundary of the Brillouin zone, is calculated as a function of both the root-mean-square fluctuations γi and the correlation wavenumbers ηi of phase inhomogeneities (i = 1 and 3 for 1D and 3D inhomogeneities, respectively). The function Δνm1, η1) for 1D inhomogeneities is shown to be symmetric with respect to interchanging the variables γ 1 2 and η1, whereas the function Δνm3, η3) for 3D inhomogeneities is strongly asymmetric with respect to interchanging γ 2 3 and η3. This effect is associated with the difference in form between the correlation functions of 1D and 3D inhomogeneities and can be used to determine the dimensionality of inhomogeneities from the results of spectral studies of such superlattices.  相似文献

Dependences of the dispersion laws and damping of waves in an initially sinusoidal superlattice on the dimensionality of inhomogeneities modulating the period of the superlattice are studied. The cases of one-and three-dimensional modulations, as well as modulation by a mixture of inhomogeneities of both of these dimensionalities, are considered. The correlation function of the superlattice K(r) has the form of a product of the same periodic function and a decreasing function that is significantly different for these different cases. The decreasing part of the correlation function for the mixture of inhomogeneities of different dimensionalities has the form of a product of the decreasing parts of the correlation functions of the components of the mixture. This leads to the nonadditivity of the contributions of the components of different dimensionalities to the resulting modification of the parameters of the wave spectrum that are due to the inhomogeneities (the damping of waves for the mixture of these components is smaller than the sum of the dampings of the components, the maximum gap in the spectrum corresponds to the simultaneous presence of both components of the mixture, not only of the three-dimensional inhomogeneities).  相似文献

This paper reports on the results of the investigation of the high-frequency susceptibility of a layered ferromagnetic structure in which, apart from a periodic change in the magnetic anisotropy parameter from layer to layer, this parameter varies along layers according to a random law (the superlattice with two-dimensional phase inhomogeneities). The evolution of the frequency dependence of the imaginary part of the averaged Green’s function in the range of the energy gap (band gap) in the spectrum of waves propagating along the superlattice axis due to the change in the relative root-mean-square fluctuations of the phase γ2 has been studied at the boundaries of the odd Brillouin zones. It has been found that, for all odd Brillouin zones, the imaginary part of the Green’s function exhibits a universal behavior: the peak corresponding to the edge of the band gap with a lower frequency remains unchanged, and the peak corresponding to the edge of the band gap with a higher frequency is smoothed with an increase in the quantity γ2. These effects, which were initially revealed at the boundary of the first Brillouin zone of the sinusoidal superlattice, have been explained, as before, by the specific features of the energy conservation laws for the incident and scattered waves in the lattice with two-dimensional inhomogeneities. It has been demonstrated that an increase in the Brillouin zone number leads to a decrease in the value of γ2 at which the peak at the edge of the band gap with a higher frequency disappears.  相似文献

This paper is a theoretical investigation of the effect of inhomogeneities in the period of a ferromagnetic superlattice on the high-frequency superlattice susceptibility. The calculations are done for a model in which the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy is taken as the physical parameter that characterizes both the ideal superlattice and a partially randomized superlattice. It is found that as the inhomogeneities become more intense, the two resonance peaks corresponding to the splitting of the spectrum at the edge of the Brillouin zone of the superlattice broaden, move closer to each other, and finally merge into one. The height of this peak increases and the peak width decreases as the intensity of the inhomogeneities increases further. The effect of inhomogeneities on the susceptibility differs dramatically in the two limits of short-and long-wave inhomogeneities: in the latter case (in contrast to the former) the dependence of the separation of the susceptibility peaks on the intensity and correlation properties of the inhomogeneities is nonmonotonic. The possibility of observing these effects in spin-wave resonance experiments involving multilayer magnetic films is also discussed. Zh. éksp. Teor. Fiz. 116, 1335–1345 (October 1999)  相似文献

Dependences of the dispersion laws and damping of waves in an initially sinusoidal superlattice on inhomogeneities with anisotropic correlation properties are studied for the first time. The period of the superlattice is modulated by the random function described by the anisotropic correlation function K?(r) that has different correlation radii, k ?1 and k ?1 , along the axis of the superlattice z and in the plane xy, respectively. The anisotropy of the correlation is characterized by the parameter λ=1?k/k that can change from λ=0 to λ=1 when the correlation wave number k⊥ changes from k=k (isotropic 3D inhomogeneities) to k=0 (1D inhomogeneities). The correlation function of the superlattice K(r) is developed. Its decreasing part goes to the asymptote L that divides the correlation volume into two parts, characterized by finite and infinite correlation radii. The dependences of the width of the gap in the spectrum at the boundary of the Brillouin zone δν and the damping of waves ξ on the value of λ are studied. It is shown that decreasing L leads to the decrease of δν, and increase of ξ, with the increase of λ.  相似文献

Effects of cross correlations between inhomogeneities of the exchange and magnetic-anisotropy parameters on the spectrum and damping of spin waves in a ferromagnet are investigated. One- and three-dimensional inhomogeneities are considered. It is demonstrated that the positive cross correlations lead to an increase in the modification of the dispersion law and the damping of spin waves. The negative cross correlations result in the opposite effects: a decrease in the modification of the dispersion law and a decrease in the damping of spin waves. A comparison of the specific features revealed in this work and the results of targeted experimental investigations of modifications of the dispersion laws and damping in inhomogeneous magnets would make it possible to determine the contribution of the cross correlations to the formation of the stochastically inhomogeneous ground state in amorphous magnetic alloys.  相似文献

The dispersion and damping laws have been investigated for elastic waves in an isotropic medium with one- and three-dimensional inhomogeneities of the density p(x) of the material and the elastic force constants μ(x) and λ(x) with allowance for the cross correlations between these inhomogeneities. It has been demonstrated that the positive cross correlations between μ(x) and λ(x), as well as the negative cross correlations between p(x) and μ(x) or p(x) and λ(x), lead to an enhancement of the modification of the dispersion law and an increase in the damping of waves. The positive cross correlations between p(x) and μ(x) or p(x) and λ(x), as well as the negative cross correlations between μ(x) and λ(x), result in the opposite effects: a weakening of the modification of the dispersion law and a decrease in the damping. An analysis of the results obtained in this paper and in our recent work [15] has made it possible to formulate the general regularity of the effects of cross correlations, irrespective of the physical nature of the waves: the effects of cross correlations between inhomogeneities of any two parameters of the material on the wave spectrum depend on whether both parameters related by the cross correlations belong to the same part of the Hamiltonian (i.e., if they both belong to either the kinetic part or the potential part of the Hamiltonian) or they belong to different parts of the Hamiltonian. The positive cross correlations lead to a greater modification of the dispersion law and to an increase in the damping of waves in the former case and to a decrease in these characteristics in the latter case. Correspondingly, the negative cross correlations in each of these cases result in the opposite effects. This regularity has been explained qualitatively.  相似文献

In this paper, we compare transmission spectra of electrons propagated in ballistic transport regime in finite conventional and finite effective-mass superlattices. Taking into account the off-center-zone transport as well as center-zone one, we show theoretically that the Bragg transmission of carriers and the kinetic confinement effect are presented not only in the effective-mass superlattice but in the conventional one as well. However, these effects appear at the center of the Brillouin zone only in the case of the effective-mass superlattice. In the conventional superlattice, the effects are observable at the periphery of the Brillouin zone.  相似文献

In this paper, the propagation of acoustic waves in the phononic crystal of 3D with rhombohedral(I) lattice is studied theoretically. The crystal composite constituted of nickel spheres embedded in epoxy. The calculations of the band structure and density of states are performed with the plane wave expansion method in the irreducible part of Brillouin zone. In the present work, we have investigated the effect of lattice angle on the band structure and width of the band gap rhombohedral(I) lattice in the irreducible part of the first Brillouin zone and its planes separately. The results show that more than one complete band gape are formed in the four planes of the irreducible part. The most complete band gaps are formed in the (111) plane and the widest complete band gap in (443) with an angle greater than 80 \(^{\circ }\) . So, if the sound passes through the (111) and (443) planes for the lattice angle close to 90 \(^{\circ }\) , the crystal phononic displays the excellent insulation behavior. Moreover, in the other planes, the lattice angle does not affect on the width and the number of band gaps. Also, for the filling fraction 5 %, the widest complete band gap is formed. These results are consistent with the effect of symmetry on the band gap width, because the (111) plane has the most symmetry.  相似文献

Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) is employed to study damped spin-wave excitations in the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si along the antiferromagnetic Brillouin zone boundary in the low-temperature magnetically ordered state. Measurements along the (1/2 1/2 L) and (H H 1/2 - H) reciprocal-space directions reveal deviations in the spin-wave dispersion from the previously reported model. The broad asymmetric shape of the peaks in energy signifies strong spin-wave damping by interactions with the particle-hole continuum. Their energy width exhibits no evident anomalies as a function of momentum along the (1/2 1/2 L) direction which could be attributed to Fermi surface nesting effects, implying the absence of pronounced commensurate nesting vectors at the magnetic zone boundary. In agreement with a previous study, we find no signatures of the superconducting transition in the magnetic excitation spectrum, such as a magnetic resonant mode or a superconducting spin gap, either at the magnetic ordering wavevector (0 0 1/2) or at the zone boundary. However, the low superconducting transition temperature in this material still leaves the possibility of such features being weak and therefore hidden below the incoherent background at energies ? 0.1 meV, precluding their detection by INS.  相似文献

We study nonlocality effects of a bulk plasmalike dielectric medium on the plasmon spectrum of a one-dimensional (1D) quantum wire superlattice in interaction with the 3D nonlocal host bulk plasma, by carrying out a closed-form analytic determination of the inverse dielectric function κ for the joint nanostructure system within the random phase approximation (RPA), in which we treat nonlocality of the 1D superlattice in the RPA and that of the bulk medium in the hydrodynamic model. By examining the frequency poles of κ (i.e., the dispersions relations), we show analytically that coupled plasmon modes of the interacting 1D superlattice-3D nonlocal host are damped in high frequencies (damping is pronounced near resonance region) and that nonlocality of the host medium introduces nonlocal low frequency (real) modes into the spectrum, which have cutoff frequencies for finite wave vector values. In order to describe the impact of nonlocality effects more clearly, we also examine the spectrum numerically.  相似文献

By virtue of the method of multiple-scale and the quasi-discreteness approach, we have discussed the nonlinear vibration equation of a 3D discrete monatomic lattice with its nearest-neighbours interaction. The 3D simple cubic lattices have the same localized modes as a 1D discrete monatomic chain with cubic and quartic nonlinearity. The nonlinear vibration in the 3D simple cubic lattice has 3D distorted solitons and 3D envelop solitons in the direction of $k_{x}=k_{y}=k_{z}=k$ and $k=\pm \pi$/6$a_{0}$ in the Brillouin zone, as well as has 3D vortices in the direction of $k_{x}=k_{y}=k_{z}=k$ and $k=\pm \pi$/$a_{0}$ in the Brillouin zone.  相似文献

We formulate a low energy effective Hamiltonian to study superlattices in bilayer graphene (BLG) using a minimal model which supports quadratic band touching points. We show that a one dimensional (1D) periodic modulation of the chemical potential or the electric field perpendicular to the layers leads to the generation of zero-energy anisotropic massless Dirac fermions and finite energy Dirac points with tunable velocities. The electric field superlattice maps onto a coupled chain model comprised of "topological" edge modes. 2D superlattice modulations are shown to lead to gaps on the mini-Brillouin zone boundary but do not, for certain symmetries, gap out the quadratic band touching point. Such potential variations, induced by impurities and rippling in biased BLG, could lead to subgap modes which are argued to be relevant to understanding transport measurements.  相似文献

We have studied the propagation of a surface acoustic waves (SAW), in a structure constituted by a 2D phononic film (a few micrometers thick and having lattice constants of a few hundreds of micrometers in the two directions of the propagation plane) deposited onto a homogeneous semi-infinite substrate. First, we have calculated the dispersion relations of the acoustic modes by using a plane waves expansion method. We found that the surface branch exhibits both the folding effect and a band gap for the propagation along some particular directions. This is a very interesting result which demonstrates that the effects related to the existence of the band gap (sound velocity dispersion, diffraction, refraction, ultrasound tunneling, etc.) can all appear, even if the thickness of the phononic film is much less than the penetration depth of the SAW. Then, we used an all-optical technique to monitor the spectral content of the SAW propagating along the GammaX direction in the reduced Brillouin zone. We show that a wave with frequency in the stop band, is destructively diffracted after it propagates through less than ten periods. Finally, we report on measurements of the Rayleigh wave phase velocity and we show that the transit time is independent of the distance traveled inside the phononic crystal, suggesting that tunneling trough the sample is involved.  相似文献

The group index dispersion and birefringence of guided modes supported by straight photonic crystal (PhC) waveguides are theoretically and experimentally investigated as a function of the waveguide width within various reduced frequency domains. Within the photonic gap and far from the Brillouin zone edges, strongly confined modes supported by narrow PhC guides exhibit both a group index and a birefringence larger than those of a deep ridge. These two results evidence the contribution of the photonic gap to the guiding mechanism in the refractivelike domain.  相似文献

We report on the existence of unidirectional phononic band gaps that may span over extended regions of the Brillouin zone and can find application in trapping elastic (acoustic) waves in properly designed multilayered 3D structures. Phononic isolators operate as a result of asymmetrical wave transmission through a slab of a crystallographic phononic structure with broken mirror symmetry. Due to the use of lossless materials in the crystal, the absorption rate is dramatically enhanced when the proposed isolator is placed next to a vibrational harvesting cell.  相似文献
