Optical limiting (OL) properties of CdO nanowires in water and ethanol were investigated by using nanosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. Experimental results show that suspension of CdO nanowires in ethanol exhibits better OL property than solution of C60 in toluene and suspension of CdO nanowires in water. The dominant mechanism for the observed enhanced optical limiting in ethanol suspensions of CdO nanowires is due to nonlinear scattering.  相似文献

Two soluble polymer grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), including poly(N-vinylcarbazole)-MWNTs and poly(methyl methacrylate)-MWNTs, are synthesized. Their nonlinear optical properties and opticaJ limiting (OL) performances are investigated by z-scan method with 527nm nanosecond laser pulses. These grafted MWNTs dissolved in chloroform show much better optical limiting performance than those of MWNTs and C60 in toluene solution. Nonlinear absorption and nonlinear scattering mechanism are taken into consideration for explaining the observed results. The comparison of the experimental results shows that nonlinear absorption is the dominant mechanism for OL performance of these new samples.  相似文献

The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of a novel cluster Polymer {WS4Cu4I2(bpe)3}n solution are studied by using Z-scan technique with laser pulses of 4.5 ns pulse-width at a wavelength of 532 nm. The results show that the cluster solution possesses strong nonlinear absorption and refraction. Nonlinear refraction of the cluster is composed of third-order nonlinear refraction and transient thermal effect. The thermal effect is mainly due to the strong nonlinear absorption. Numerical simulations obtained by solving simultaneously photo-acoustic and electromagnetic wave equations, agrees basically with experimental results.  相似文献

A novel rhodamine-B cation fulleride salt was synthesized by metathetical reaction. Its tetrahydrofuran solution was prepared and the fluence-dependent transmission was measured with 10-ns 532-nm laser pulses in a collimated optical setup. With increases in the input fluence, its transmittance decreased significantly, which indicated reverse saturable absorption behavior. For comparison, the input fluence-dependent transmittance of fullerene C60 and rhodamine-B solution were also measured. The nonlinear optical limiting effect of the fulleride salt in tetrahydrofuran is slightly lower than that of C60 in toluene and the explanations are provided. The nonlinear optical absorption, refraction and optical limiting behaviour of an organic dye, neutral red, were investigated under excitation with nanosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The nonlinear optical responses of the material were studied both in solution and solid film, made in methanol and polyvinyl alcohol, respectively, using single-beam Z-scan technique. The open aperture Z-scans of the solution samples displayed a switch over from saturable absorption to enhanced absorption with increase in input intensity. Theoretical fit to the experimental data indicated that the dominant mechanism of nonlinear absorption is two-photon absorption. The closed aperture Z-scans of both the samples denoted positive nonlinearity, which was three orders larger in magnitude in solid film, compared with that in solution. The results of optical limiting experiments revealed that neutral red exhibited strong optical limiting of nanosecond laser pulses with a threshold lower than that of C60 in toluene.  相似文献

We measured the transmission between 1.6–2.2 eV of pure C60 and three clathrate single crystals containing different aliphatic guest molecules. The absorption edge in the clathrates shows a blue shift of 0.1 eV irrespective of the guest molecule, indicating that C60 is electronically isolated in these compounds.  相似文献

Optical limiting has been investigated for higher fullerenes and compared with C60. The transmission through an aperture placed after solutions of C76, C78, and C84 in tetrahydronaphthalene was measured using Q-switched laser pulses with a wavelength of 532 nm and a pulse width of 8 ns FWHM. Unlike C60, the transmission for these higher fullerene solutions decreased linearly with increasing optical pulse energy. We attribute the linearized optical limiting response to self-defocusing of the optical beam and the absence of excited-state absorption. The ground state absorption spectra for the higher fullerenes suggest their use for optical limiting in the near infrared, and the C84-tetrahydronaphthalene solution was found to be an optical limiter at 1.064 m.  相似文献

The optical limiting behavior of C60Ph5Cl, C60Cl6, and C70Cl10 in toluene solution has been measured at 532 nm with nanosecond pulses. The limiting threshold for C60Ph5Cl, C60Cl6, and C70Cl10 were 4, 8, and 8 J/cm2, respectively. The limiting action was strongly influenced by the number of conjugated double bonds and the nature of the ligand. Both lower limiting thresholds and throughputs make these new fullerene derivative compounds good promising candidates for optical limiting materials in the toluene solution.  相似文献

In order to reveal the optical limiting mechanisms of semiconductor hollow spheres, the nonlinear optical properties of CuS and Cu2O hollow spheres were investigated via the fluence-dependent transmittance and the nonlinear scattering measurements. The CuS and Cu2O hollow spheres have similar morphologies and different types of optical band-gap. The experimental results show that the optical limiting performance of CuS is better than that of Cu2O, although the nonlinear scattering of Cu2O is stronger than that of CuS. Free-carrier absorption based on the delocalized carriers (holes) in CuS is believed to play an important role in the optical limiting effects. The merits of the structure of semiconductor hollow spheres used for optical limiting were discussed.  相似文献

The optical and rheological properties of different viscoelastic solutions of surfactant are studied in order to gather experimental data used to calculate the value of the stress optical coefficient C. Three surfactants of the same family (CTAB) have been chosen; they differ by the length of the hydrocarbon chain; it concerns the dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C15H34BrN or DoTAB), the myristyltrimethylammonium bromide (C17H38BrN or MyTAB), and the hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C19H42BrN or CTAB). Different parameters like the temperature of the solution and the salinity of the solvent have been made to vary. Flow birefringence experiments and rheological measurements are performed on these solutions in order to study the dependence of the extinction angle , of the birefringence intensity and of the shear stress with the shear rate . These data are used to check the stress optical law which turns out to be valid in a wide range of shear rates. The stress optical coefficient C is then computed: it is found to vary with the salinity of the solvent and the temperature of the solution for a given surfactant. Then, for all solutions of this work the variations of C are related to the variations of the polarizability anisotropy and the persistence length. The transformation of the C60 fullerene cluster state into C60/N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) solution after the addition of a nonpolar solvent (toluene, electric permittivity ?= 2.4) is studied. The results of ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and small-angle neutron scattering measurements are used for comparison of the C60/NMP/toluene system with C60/NMP mixtures with a high-polar solvent (water, ? = 80). As to the observed reorganization of the cluster state, the C60/NMP/toluene system is similar to the C60/NMP/water system. This effect is explained by the formation of charge-transfer complexes in the initial C60/NMP solution. These complexes are thought to be soluble in both binary mixtures. The connection between the cluster-reorganization effect and solvatochromism is discussed.  相似文献

The optical limiting (OL) properties of a novel coordination polymer {[Et4N][Ag2I3]}n with a ladder-like framework were investigated using 532-nm nanosecond laser pulses. The coordination polymer in dimethylformamide solution exhibits better OL performance than C60 in toluene. Small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) and wide angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) techniques were used for investigation of fullerene C60 solutions in toluene and p‐xylene. On all SAXS curves, intensity decreases to some constant value of IC with increase of scattering angle. The value of IC depends on concentration non‐monotonically: it first slightly increases, then drops sharply to some minimal value, and then increases again. A qualitative explanation of such dependence is offered. It is supposed that the presence of fullerene C60 in solution suppresses thermal fluctuations of density in the solvent. In combination with the X‐ray data the results obtained for solutions of fullerene C60 by various others techniques (calorimetry, densimetry, etc.) are discussed. Possible models of a supermolecular structure of fullerene C60 solutions in good solvents are considered.  相似文献

We propose theoretical consideration, computer modeling and comparison with our recent experimental results for information pits recording and etching processes in chalcogenide vitreous semiconductors using Gaussian laser beam and selective etching. Our calculations demonstrate that photo-transformed region cross-section could be almost trapezoidal or parabolic depending on the photoresist material optical absorption, exposure, etchant selectivity and etching time. Thus our approach open possibilities how to select the necessary recording procedure and etching conditions in order to obtain pits with the optimum shape and sizes in As40S60 chalcogenide semiconductor. Obtained results quantitatively describe the characteristics of pits recorded by the Gaussian laser beam in thin film of As40S60.  相似文献

A sensitive and simple pulsed surface thermal lens (TL) technique is used in situ to investigate the laser conditioning and to measure the nonlinear absorption of LaF3/MgF2 dielectric multilayers deposited on CaF2 substrates at 193 nm. Due to the high single-shot sensitivity of the surface TL technique, the laser conditioning can be monitored from the first shot of irradiation on a shot-by-shot basis. The LaF3/MgF2 multilayers show a very strong conditioning effect. The ratio of the absorption before and after the laser irradiation is in the range 4–8 for a highly reflective (LH)20 LaF3/MgF2 multilayer, and 3–4 for (1L3H)7 and (3L1H)7 multilayers. In comparison, a (LH)20 LaF3/AlF3 multilayer shows only a weak conditioning effect, with an absorption ratio of approximately 1.4. Our experimental results suggest that the strong conditioning effect of the LaF3/MgF2 multilayer is due to the absorption conditioning of the LaF3 layers. However, the MgF2 layers are shown to be responsible for the considerable increase in LaF3 absorption as well as the ability to condition the absorption. The fluoride multilayers present non-negligible nonlinear absorption and the two-photon absorption coefficient of the multilayers is estimated to be approximately 5×10-7 cm/W. Lines of light-induced scattering with extraordinary polarization from two ordinary polarized pump waves in LiNbO3:Fe crystals are observed. A nonlinear mixing of four copropagating waves in the crystal with photovoltaic charge transport is shown to be the reason for parametric amplification of the seed radiation scattered from optical imperfections of the sample.  相似文献

60 at 1.064 μm is determined by the optical Kerr effect in toluene solution. Values of -6.5×10-33 esu and 2.0×10-32 esu for the real and imaginary parts of γ, respectively, are obtained. Based on the experimental results and symmetry constraint, it is concluded that a three-level model is not adequate to describe the third-order nonlinearity of C60. It is also inferred that the non-resonant γ of C60 should be positive in sign, which is in agreement with reported off-resonant measurements of γ of C60 by third-harmonic generation. A diffusion-controlled technique of obtaining gradient in molecular distribution of C60 molecules in porous vycor glass is presented. Here toluene solution of C60 is allowed to diffuse only in one-dimension. The molecular distribution in the doped glass is measured by transmission method. By comparing optical limiting performance in the graded and uniformly doped glasses, we show that there is about 10-fold increase in the dynamic range in graded device.
