Magnetic and electric hyperfine interaction of the nuclear probe 111In/111Cd in intermetallic compounds of the rare earth-gallium system have been investigated by perturbed angular correlation (PAC) spectroscopy. The PAC measurements, supported by X-ray diffraction, provide evidence for a marked phase preference of 111In for hexagonal RGa2 over orthorhombic RGa and of RGa3 with the L12 structure over RGa2. In the case of SmGa2, the magnetic hyperfine field Bhf, the electric quadrupole interaction and the angle β between Bhf and the symmetry axis of the electric field gradient have been determined as a function of temperature. The angle β?=?0 is consistent with the results of previous magnetization studies. Up to T?≤?17 K the magnetic hyperfine field has a constant value of Bhf?=?3.0(2) T. The rapid decrease at higher T gives the impression of a first-order transition with an order temperature of TN?=?19.5 K. In the RKKY model of indirect 4f interaction the ratio TC/Bhf(0) is a measure of the coupling constant. For 111Cd:SmGa2 (TC/Bhf(0)~6.5 K/T) this ratio is significantly smaller than for the same probe in other R intermetallics (SmAl2 ~9.5 K/T, Sm2In ~13.5 K/T).  相似文献

The hyperfine interaction is studied in two different crystal lografic forms of Mn. In the -Mn no magnetic, but a distinct electric quadrupole interaction is found. Effects of heat treatment are discussed. For the -Mn two magnetic field sites are found. Their temperature dependence and dependence on the In concentration are discussed.  相似文献

The temperature dependences of the electric field gradient (EFG) at111Cd probes in nickel-indium and indium-tellurium intermetallic compounds have been studied by means of the time differential perturbed angular correlation of gamma rays (TDPAC). The room temperature interaction frequencies (e 2 Qq/h) in each case were determined as In2Te5 (136 MHz), Ni3In (13.8 MHz), NiIn (252 and 337 MHz) (two sites), and Ni2In3 (162 and 266 MHz) (two sites). The TDPAC pattern of111Cd in NiIn did not agree with the previous assignment of the crystal structure. A general discussion of the results related to other temperature dependence studies of the EFG is presented and a general trend is discerned.Supported in part by the US Energy and Research Development Administration.  相似文献

The hyperfine interaction of 111Cd in ferromagnetic Fe3Sn compound was investigated by TDPAC in the paramagnetic region and below the Curie temperature. The results are compared with hyperfine magnetic fields and EFGs on 111Cd and 119Sn in other stoichiometric Fe–Sn phases. This revised version was published online in September 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The magnetic-dipole and electric-quadrupole hyperfine interactions of111Cd probes in fcc cobalt after implantation of radioactive111In+ ions have been investigated by PAC measurements with fast BaF2 detectors. Six different sites of the probe atoms could be distinguished and characterized by their hyperfine parameters and annealing behaviour. Besides the substitutional site, three sites are assigned to In-vacancy complexes which are formed athermally in the implantation process or by thermally-activated trapping of lattice defects in annealing stage III. The remaining two sites are attributed to In located in stacking faults or hcp regions of the host. Systematic trends of impurity hyperfine fields in defect sites become evident from a comparison with other impurity-host combinations. The temperature dependence of the magnetic hyperfine fields has been measured between 20 K and 390 K. Large differences found for the various sites are discussed.  相似文献

The electric and (antiferro-)magnetic hyperfine interaction of111Cd in α-Cr2O3 after111In implantation was studied via PAC. Two fractions with axially symmetric electric field gradients were observed having antishielding factors of Vzz/Vzz pc=79(12) and 106(16), respectively. From the line broadening of the Fourier components of the first fraction its supertransferred magnetic field was estimated as Bloc (20 K)≤0.41 T, about two orders of magnitude smaller than for substitutional111Cd in NiO and CoO.  相似文献

The perturbed angular correlation technique and Mössbauer spectroscopy were applied to study the electric field gradient on 111Cd and 119Sn probe atoms in isostructural NiIn and CoSn compounds. The 111Cd PAC measurements performed in the temperature range 80--1100 K demonstrated the existence of two axially symmetric EFG's in each of the investigated compounds, related to the 2(d) and 1(a) probe sites in the B35 structure. A 1(a)-site preference for Cd probes in CoSn compound was observed. The temperature dependence of the quadrupole frequencies for 111Cd in both compounds, interpreted in terms of the empirical model proposed by Christiansen et al.[1], follows a T3/2 relation with different slope parameters for each of the observed frequencies. These results are combined with the data from the Mössbauer experiment. The 119Sn Mössbauer spectra taken at liquid nitrogen and at room temperatures showed two quadrupole split doublets with the intensity ratio 2:1 for CoSn and 8:1 for NiIn0.99Sn0.01sample, giving an evidence of 2(d)-site preference for tin atoms in NiIn. The EFG values measured on 119Sn are 2.5 to 4 times larger than those on 111Cd nuclei, while the ratio of the respective Sternheimer antishielding factors is equal to 0.77. Within the limits of errors no differences were observed in the magnitude and temperature dependence of Debye--Waller factors for 2(d) and 1(a) 119Sn positions in CoSn and NiIn lattices.  相似文献

Quadrupole interactions at111Cd in various rare-earth intermetallics have been investigated. The enhancement in the efg due to the electronic configurations is found to be small in contrast to pure metals. The authors thank K. Raghunathan for helpful discussions.  相似文献

Measurements of hyperfine interactions at 155Gd nuclei in metallic compounds between Gd and 3d transition metals and at 61Ni in GdNi compounds by Mössbauer spectroscopy are reported. The results are discussed in terms of various models proposed for the electronic structure of these compounds. The Gd isomer shifts with respect to metallic Gd are at variance with the model of a strong d electron transfer from rare earths to transition metal ions. From the observation of a linear relation between magnetic hyperfine fields at Gd and at Dy nuclei in corresponding compounds it is inferred that crystal-field induced variations of Dy moments are neglible and that the conduction electron polarization induced by 4f moments is directly related to that caused by 3d moments.  相似文献

The quadrupole interaction of111Cd nuclei in a single crystal of hexagonal thallium has been investigated for different geometries and sample temperatures employing the perturbed - angular correlation technique. The observed variation of the electric field gradient with temperature is attributed to local modes of thermal vibrations of the Cd impurities. An analytical relationship has been derived from lattice-dynamical models, expressing the temperature dependence in terms of impurity-host mass ratios and local force-constants.  相似文献

The time-differential perturbed angular correlation for 111Cd nuclei has been measured after 111In implantation into polycrystalline TiO2. The observed perturbation functions are characterized by a well-defined electric field gradient with the quadrupole coupling constant νQ = 105(1) MHz and the asymmetry parameter η = 0.18(1). We attribute these hyperfine parameters to 111Cd on the (distorted) substitutional cation site in rutile. The PAC results are compared with those in SnO2 rutile as well as with X-ray diffraction, RBS channeling experiments and point charge model calculations including relaxation of the probe atom surrounding.  相似文献

A model based on the relative strengths of the magnetic exchange and electric field interactions is proposed for explaining the differences observed between the 161Dy Mössbauer spectrum of Dy2Ni17 where two dysprosium sites are observed and spectra of Dy2Fe17 and Dy2Co17 which show only one hyperfine pattern.  相似文献
