Given a finite set {Ax}x ∈ X of nonnegative matrices, we derive joint upper and lower bounds for the row sums of the matrices D−1 A(x) D, x ∈ X, where D is a specially chosen nonsingular diagonal matrix. These bounds, depending only on the sparsity patterns of the matrices A(x) and their row sums, are used to obtain joint two-sided bounds for the Perron roots of given nonnegative matrices, joint upper bounds for the spectral radii of given complex matrices, bounds for the joint and lower spectral radii of a matrix set, and conditions sufficient for all convex combinations of given matrices to be Schur stable. Let be the cone of real univariate polynomials of degree ≤ 2n which are nonnegative on the real axis and have nonnegative coefficients. We describe the extremal rays of this convex cone and the class of linear operators, acting diagonally in the standard monomial basis, preserving this cone.  相似文献

This paper concerns three notions of rank of matrices over semirings; real rank, semiring rank and column rank. These three rank functions are the same over subfields of reals but differ for matrices over subsemirings of nonnegative reals. We investigate the largest values of r for which the real rank and semiring rank, real rank and column rank of all m×n matrices over a given semiring are both r, respectively. We also characterize the linear operators which preserve the column rank of matrices over certain subsemirings of the nonnegative reals.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain the sharp upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative irreducible matrix. We also apply these bounds to various matrices associated with a graph or a digraph, obtain some new results or known results about various spectral radii, including the adjacency spectral radius, the signless Laplacian spectral radius, the distance spectral radius, the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph or a digraph.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish some Brauer-type bounds for the spectral radius of Hadamard product of two nonnegative tensors based on Brauer-type inclusion set, which are shown to be sharper than the existing bounds established in the literature. The validity of the obtained results is theoretically and numerically tested.  相似文献

Fix integers n ≥ 1, d ≥ 2. Let V be an (n + 1)-dimensional vector space over a field with characteristic zero. Fix a symmetric tensor \({T\in S^d(V)\subset V^{\otimes d}}\). Here we prove that the tensor rank of T is equal to its symmetric tensor rank if the latter is at most (d + 1)/2.  相似文献

We give sharp upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative matrix with positive row sums using average 3-row sums, compare these bounds with the existing bounds using the average 2-row sums by examples, and apply them to the adjacency matrix and the signless Laplacian matrix of a digraph or a graph.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain some new bounds for Perron root of a nonnegative matrix, which are expressed by easily calculated function in element of matrix. These new results generalize and improve the bounds of G. Frobenius [1] and H. Minc [2], and also extend the known results by Liu [6].  相似文献

We obtain the sharp upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative weakly irreducible tensor. By using the technique of the representation associate matrix of a tensor and the associate directed graph of the matrix, the equality cases of the bounds are completely characterized by graph theory methods. Applying these bounds to a nonnegative irreducible matrix or a connected graph (digraph), we can improve the results of L. H. You, Y. J. Shu, and P. Z. Yuan [Linear Multilinear Algebra, 2017, 65(1): 113–128], and obtain some new or known results. Applying these bounds to a uniform hypergraph, we obtain some new results and improve some known results of X. Y. Yuan, M. Zhang, and M. Lu [Linear Algebra Appl., 2015, 484: 540–549]. Finally, we give a characterization of a strongly connected k-uniform directed hypergraph, and obtain some new results by applying these bounds to a uniform directed hypergraph.  相似文献

Let Ω?R2 be a bounded convex domain in the plane and consider
?Δu=1inΩu=0on?Ω.
If u assumes its maximum in x0Ω, then the eccentricity of level sets close to the maximum is determined by the Hessian D2u(x0). We prove that D2u(x0) is negative definite and give a quantitative bound on the spectral gap
λmax(D2u(x0))?c1exp?(?c2diam(Ω)inrad(Ω))for universalc1,c2>0.
This is sharp up to constants. The proof is based on a new lower bound for Fourier coefficients whose proof has a topological component: if f:TR is continuous and has n sign changes, then
k=0n/2|f,sin?kx|+|f,cos?kx|?n|f6L1(T)n+16f6L(T)n.
This statement immediately implies estimates on higher derivatives of harmonic functions u in the unit ball: if u is very flat in the origin, then the boundary function u(cos?t,sin?t):TR has to have either large amplitude or many roots. It also implies that the solution of the heat equation starting with f:TR cannot decay faster than exp?(?(#sign changes)2t/4).  相似文献

We bound the location of roots of polynomials that have nonnegative coefficients with respect to a fixed but arbitrary basis of the vector space of polynomials of degree at most d. For this, we interpret the basis polynomials as vector fields in the real plane, and at each point in the plane analyze the combinatorics of the Gale dual vector configuration. This approach permits us to incorporate arbitrary linear equations and inequalities among the coefficients in a unified manner to obtain more precise bounds on the location of roots. We apply our technique to bound the location of roots of Ehrhart and chromatic polynomials. Finally, we give an explanation for the clustering seen in plots of roots of random polynomials.  相似文献

We derive upper and lower bounds for the Perron root of a nonnegative matrix by using generalized Gershgorin inclusion regions. Our bounds seem particularly effective for certain sparse matrices.  相似文献

This brief note presents refinements of the bounds on the first Betti number and the polynomial growth degree of the fundamental group for manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and infinite fundamental group. These refinements are then sharpened when applied to symplectic manifolds.
