The excitation of the proton into undetected multiparticle states (double diffraction dissociation) is an important background to single diffractive deep-inelastic processes epMe'p'A0,r e'p'J/O,r e'p'X at HERA. We present estimates of the admixture of the double diffraction dissociation events in all diffractive events. We find that in the J/O photoproduction, electroproduction of the A0 at large Q2 and diffraction dissociation of real and virtual photons into high mass states X the contamination of the double diffraction dissociation can be as large as ~30%, thus affecting substantially the experimental tests of the pomeron exchange in deep inelastic scattering at HERA. We discuss a possibility of tagging the double diffraction dissociation by neutrons observed in the forward neutron calorimeter. We present evaluations of the spectra of neutrons and efficiency of neutron tagging based on the experimental data for diffractive processes in the proton-proton collisions.  相似文献

X(1835) has been treated as a baryonium with sizable gluon content, and to be almost flavor singlet. This picture allows us to rationally understand X(1835) production in J/ψ radiative decays, and its large couplings with pˉ, ηππ. The processes ϒ(1S) → γX(1835) and J/ψ → ωX(1835) have been examined. It has been found that Br(ϒ(1S) → γX(1835))Br(X(1835) → pˉ) < 6.45×10-7, which is compatible with CLEO's recent experimental result (Phys. Rev. D 73, 032001 (2006) hep-ex/0510015). The branching fractions Br(J/ψ → ωX(1835)), Br(J/ψ → ρX(1835)) with X(1835) → pˉ and X(1835) → ηπ+π- have been estimated by the quark-pair creation model. We show that they are heavily suppressed, so the signal of X(1835) is very difficult, if not impossible, to be observed in these processes. The experimental checks for these estimations are expected. The existence of the baryonium nonet is conjectured, and a model-independent derivation of their production branching fractions is presented.  相似文献

The nature of the X(3872) enhancement is analyzed in the framework of the Resonance-Spectrum Expansion, by studying it as a regular J PC =1++ charmonium state, though strongly influenced and shifted by open-charm decay channels. The observed but Okubo–Zweig–Iizuka-forbidden ρ 0 J/ψ and ωJ/ψ channels are coupled as well, but effectively smeared out by using complex ρ 0 and ω masses, in order to account for their physical widths, followed by a rigorous algebraic procedure to restore unitarity. A very delicate interplay between the D 0 D ∗0, ρ 0 J/ψ, and ωJ/ψ channels is observed. The data clearly suggest that the X(3872) is a very narrow axial-vector c[`(c)]c\bar{c} resonance, with a pole at or slightly below the D 0 D ∗0 threshold.  相似文献

The recently discovered narrow peaks (theψ-particles) in e+e system at 3.105 and 3.695 GeV are interpreted as hadrons in a broken SU4 symmetry scheme. A new additional additive quantum number, parachargeZ, is combined with the usual SU3 quantum numbers in the group SU4. Theψ (3.1) is assigned to a near ideally mixed151 multiplet of vector mesons (containing theρ) as theI=Y=0, charge conjugationC=−combination ofZ=±1.members. Theψ (3.7) is assigned correspondingly to another mixed151 multiplet containing theρ′ (1600). The hadronic electromagnetic interactions are modified by the addition of (non-minimal) anomalous pieces that can changeZ. The decays of theψ-particles are discussed. New enlarged SU4 multiplets of other hadrons are proposed. Tests of our scheme are put forward. The most crucial test will be the observation of two rather broad resonances in e+ e collisions with masses around 4.2 GeV and 5.1 GeV. Another prediction is the presence of energetic photons in the decays of theψ-particles. Important results concerning the recently observed phenomena in the process e+e→hadrons follow in this scheme.  相似文献

Ratios of the ψ over the J/ψ production cross sections in the dilepton channel for C, Ti and W targets have been measured in 920 GeV proton-nucleus interactions with the HERA-B detector at the HERA storage ring. The ψ and J/ψ states were reconstructed in both the μ+μ- and the e+e- decay modes. The measurements covered the kinematic range -0.35≤xF≤0.1 with transverse momentum pT≤4.5 GeV/c. The angular dependence of the ratio has been used to measure the difference of the ψ and J/ψ polarization. All results for the muon and electron decay channels are in good agreement: their ratio, averaged over all events, is Rψ′(μ)/Rψ′(e)=1.00±0.08±0.04. This result constitutes a new, direct experimental constraint on the double ratio of branching fractions, (B(μ)B(e))/(B(μ)B(e)), of ψ and J/ψ in the two channels. The ψ to J/ψ production ratio is almost constant in the covered xF range and shows a slow increase with pT.  相似文献

The ratio of the ψ′ over the J ψ production cross section in the dielectron channel has been measured in $ \sqrt s $ \sqrt s = 200 GeV p + p collisions with the PHENIX detector at RHIC. The analysis is based on fitting of the dielectron invariant mass spectra in the area around the J ψ and ψ′ signals in order to extract a ratio ψ′ over J ψ of 0.019 ± 0.005 (stat) ± 0.002 (sys) and a fractional feed-down contribution to J ψ from ψ′ of 8.6 ± 2.5%.  相似文献

Few-body experiments at the Mainz Microtron were focused on a number of selected topics. Double-polarization experiments to determine the neutron electric form factor Gen have been performed using both deuterium and polarized helium-3 targets. The structure of 3He has been studied in the reactions 3H e⃗ e(ee,en) and 3H e⃗ e(ee,ep) with large (transversal) missing momenta and in quasi-elastic electron scattering. Electromagnetically induced two-nucleon knockout has been investigated in order to study the role of correlated nucleon-nucleon motion in the nucleus. Measurements of the (e,epn) reaction on 3He and 16O were performed for the first time. A triple-polarization experiment of type 3H e⃗ e(ee,e′e⃗p⃗)d has been performed, where, in addition, the spin of the knocked out proton is analyzed. This measurement provides information on the spin-dependent momentum distribution of proton-deuteron clusters in the 3He nucleus. Hence, by tagging the outgoing deuteron spin-polarized 3He might also serve as an effective polarized proton target for electron scattering experiments. Moreover, in inclusive 3,4He(e,e′) measurements at low momentum transfer, the effect of 3-body-forces has been studied.  相似文献

We develop the color dipole gBFKL phenomenology of a diffraction cone for photo-and electroproduction γ*NVN of heavy vector mesons (charmonium & bottomonium) at HERA and in fixed target experiments. We predict a substantial shrinkage of the diffraction cone from the CERN/FNAL to the HERA range of c.m.s. energy W. The Q 2-controlled sensitivity to the color dipole size (scanning phenomenon) is shown to lead to a decrease of the diffraction slope with Q 2 (which is supported by the available experimental data). We predict an approximate flavor independence of the diffraction slope in the scaling variable Q 2+m V 2 . For diffractive production of the radially excited 2S states (Ψ′, γ′), a counterintuitive inequality of diffraction slopes B(2S)≲B(1S) is predicted, which defies the common wisdom that diffraction slopes are larger for reactions with larger size particles. We present a new measurement of the total photoproduction cross section performed with the H1 detector at HERA. For an average centre of mass energy of 200 GeV a value of σ tot λp =165±2±11μb has been obtained. A detailed analysis of the data in adequate kinematic regions enabled a decomposition of the total cross section in its elastic, single diffractive dissociation and remaining non-diffractive parts, based on safe assumptions on the double diffractive dissociation contribution. The QCD factorization theorem for diffractive processes in DIS is used to derive formulae for the leading twist contribution to the nuclear shadowing of parton distributions in the low thickness limit (due to the coherent projectile (photon) interactions with two nucleons). Based on the current analyzes of diffraction at HERA we find that the average strength of the interactions which govern diffraction in the gluon sector at x≤ 10−3, Q 0= 2 GeV is ∼50mb. This is three times larger than in the quark sector and suggests that applicability of DGLAP approximation requires significantly larger Q 0 in the gluon sector. We use this information on diffraction to estimate the higher order shadowing terms due to the photon interactions with N≥ 3 nucleons which are important for the scattering of heavy nuclei and to calculate nuclear shadowing and Q 2 dependence of gluon densities. For the heavy nuclei the amount of the gluon shadowing: G A(x,Q 0 2) /AG N(x,Q 0 2)|x ≤ 10−3∼ 0.25–0.4 is sensitive to the probability of the small size configurations within wave function of the gluon “partonometer” at the Q 0 scale. At this scale for A∼ 200 the nonperturbative contribution to the gluon density is reduced by a factor of 4–5 at x≤ 10−3 unmasking PQCD physics in the gluon distribution of heavy nuclei. We point out that the shadowing of this magnitude would strongly modify the first stage of the heavy ion collisions at the LHC energies, and also would lead to large color opacity effects in eA collisions at HERA energies. In particular, the leading twist contribution to the cross section of the coherent J/ψ production off A≥ 12 nuclei at s −2≥ 70 GeV is strongly reduced as compared to the naive color transparency expectations. The Gribov black body limit for F 2A(x,Q 2) is extended to the case of the gluon distributions in nuclei and shown to be relevant for the HERA kinematics of eA collisions. Properties of the final states are also briefly discussed. Received: 12 March 1999  相似文献

We extend the recently presented formalism for Monte Carlo calculations of the partition function, for both even and odd particle number systems (Phys. Rev. C 59, 2500 (1999)), to the calculation of many-body matrix elements of the type <ψ| e - βℋ|ψ> where |ψ> is a many-body state with a definite angular momentum, parity, neutron and proton numbers. For large β such matrix elements are dominated by the lowest eigenstate of the many-body Hamiltonian ℋ, corresponding with a given angular momentum parity and particle number. Emphasis is placed on odd-mass nuclei. Negligible sign fluctuations in the Monte Carlo calculation are found provided the neutron and proton chemical potentials are properly adjusted. The formalism is applied to the J π = 0+ state in 166 Er and to the J π = 9/2-, 13/2+, 5/2- states in 165 Er using the pairing-plus-quadrupole model. Simulation study on ω, ϕ, ρ decays to e e + pairs in the ALICE detector for Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energy was performed. The possibility of selecting resonance signals over the combinatorial backgrounds is demonstrated using the realistic simulation tracking and particle identification algorithms of the ALICE offline framework (AliRoot). Results for J/ψ are presented also for comparison.  相似文献

We investigate the inclusive photoproduction of J/ψ mesons at HERA within the framework of the k T -factorization QCD approach. Our study is based on the color singlet model supplemented with the relevant off-shell matrix elements and the CCFM and KMR unintegrated gluon densities in a proton and in a photon. Both the direct and resolved photon contributions are taken into account. Our predictions are compared with the recent experimental data taken by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. Special attention is put on the J/ψ polarization parameters λ and ν, which are sensitive to the production dynamics.  相似文献

A systematic semiquantitative account of all aspects of the strong and electromagnetic interactions of all the newly discovered hadronic states (theψ’s, theχ’s, etc.) is presented within the framework of the paracharge scheme. Extensions of ideas familiar from the SU3 classification scheme to SU4 are shown to provide an understanding of the new states seen in the decays ofψ (3.1) andψ′ (3.7), including their masses and gross decay characteristics. The decays ofψ (3.1) andψ′ (3.7) themselves are studied in some detail. Since these are of electromagnetic origin in the scheme, their electromagnetic mixing with the resonance at 4.15 GeV (theP-state of the scheme) is important. Once this is taken into account, the resulting picture is in excellent agreement with available data.  相似文献

In this paper we develop an approach to soft scattering processes at high energies which is based on two elements: the Good–Walker mechanism for low mass diffraction and multi-pomeron interactions for high mass diffraction. The principal idea, which allows us to specify the theory for pomeron interactions, is that the so called soft processes occur at rather short distances (r 2 1/〈p t 2 α≈0.01 GeV−2), where perturbative QCD is valid. The value of the pomeron slope α is obtained from a fit to the experimental data. Using this theoretical approach, we suggest a model that fits all soft data in the ISR-Tevatron energy range: total, elastic, single and double diffractive cross sections, as well as the t dependence of the differential elastic cross section, and the mass dependence of single diffraction. In this model we calculate the survival probability of diffractive Higgs production, and we obtain a value for this observable that is smaller than 1% at the LHC energy range.  相似文献

In a hydrodynamic model, we have studied J/ψ production in Au+Au/Cu+Cu collisions at RHIC energy, GeV. At the initial time, J/ψ’s are randomly distributed in the fluid. As the fluid evolves in time, the free streaming J/ψ’s are dissolved if the local fluid temperature exceeds a threshold temperature T J/ψ . Sequential melting of charmonium states (χ c , ψ and J/ψ), with melting temperatures , T J/ψ ≈2T c and feed-down fraction F≈0.3, explains the PHENIX data on the centrality dependence of J/ψ suppression in Au+Au collisions. J/ψ p T spectra and the nuclear modification factor in Au+Au collisions are also well explained in the model. The model however overpredicts the centrality dependence of J/ψ suppression in Cu+Cu collisions by 20–30%. The J/ψ p T spectra are underpredicted by 20–30%. The model predicts that in central Pb+Pb collisions at LHC energy,  GeV, J/ψ’s are suppressed by a factor of ∼10. The model predicted a J/ψ p T distribution in Pb+Pb collisions at LHC is similar to that in Au+Au collisions at RHIC.  相似文献

Fluxes of cosmic-ray muons were estimated over the energy range extending up to 1010 GeV. Data on the production of pions; kaons; η, η′, ρ, ω, and ϕ mesons; charmed particles; and J/ψ mesons from accelerator experiments devoted to studying interactions between nucleons and nuclei of air atoms up to nucleon energies of about 2 × 104 GeV were used in respective calculations. At higher energies, use was made of the results obtained by calculating cross sections for the production of charmed particles and J/ψ mesons on the basis of QCD models. It is shown that, in interpreting experimental data on extensive air showers, the production of both charmed particles and J/ψ mesons in the Earth’s atmosphere must be taken into account.  相似文献
