Summary Using theoretical models and our laboratory data on different dust mixtures containing silicon carbide grains, we obtained the best fit of several infrared emission spectra of carbon stars and comets. The results suggest that silicon carbide formed in the envelopes around carbon stars and also present in our solar system may provide an important link between interstellar and interplanetary solid material. The effect of plasma polarization around a negatively charged dust particle is investigated with the help of Monte Carlo simulation of ion trajectories in the electric field of the dust particle and an external electric field. The induced dipole moment of such a system was estimated in a wide range of dust particle and plasma parameters. It is shown that the dipole moment is very large, and has a non‐monotonous dependence on the external electric field. For a small external electric field, it weakly depends on the charge of the dust particle. The dipole moment reduces with the decrease of ion mean free path (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In present work the formation of dusty plasma structures in cryogenic glow dc discharge was investigated. The ordered structures from large number (~104) of charged diamagnetic dust particles in a cusp magnetic trap have been also studied in microgravity conditions. The super high charging (up to 5·107e) of dust macroparticles under direct stimulation by an electron beam is experimentally performed and investigated. We investigate instability of dust drift waves in a nonuniform dusty magnetoplasma containing transverse sheared plasma flow that is produced by a nonuniform electric field. By using Boltzmann distributed electrons and ions, Poisson’s equation, as well as the dust continuity equation with perpendicular guiding center dust drift speed, we derive an eigenvalue equation, which strongly depends on the profiles of dust sheared flow and dust density gradient. The eigenvalue equation is analytically solved to obtain expressions for the growth rate and threshold of a convective instability arising from resonant interactions between the dust drift waves and sheared flows. The result may be relevant to the understanding of short wavelength (in comparison with the ion gyroradius) electrostatic fluctuations in magnetized plasmas of Saturn rings and in cometary tails. Summary Solar-wind data, as obtained in the near-Earth space, have been re-examined for the period 1964 to 1987. For each month, the maximum and minimum hourly values of the solar-wind bulk speed together with those for the interplanetary magnetic-field intensity have been selected. They are reported in a tabular form (available as readable ASCII text files on DOS-formatted floppy disks) to ease off further studies in the framework of the Solar-Terrestrial System.  相似文献

The effect of negative ions on the modulational instability properties of nonlinear dust acoustic (DA) waves in the electronegative dusty plasmas was investigated by considering Boltzmann-distributed electrons, negative ions, positive ions as well as positively charged dust grain under the ultraviolet irradiation. It is shown that the modulational instability properties of the DA waves were strongly affected by the temperature and proportion of negative ions. The modulational instability can occur only if the proportion of negative ions was smaller than critical value. The instability growth rate has a maximum value when the proportion of negative ions was a critical one in the unstable region. The effect of photoelectron generated by ultraviolet irradiation on the modulational instability of dust acoustic waves was also discussed by numerical method.  相似文献

Summary The radial evolution of Alfvénic correlation is such that its value decreases with increasing heliocentric distance. So far this behaviour has been interpreted as an increase in the local production of ?inward? modes interacting destructively with the ?outward? modes. This work, which deals with largescale turbulence, shows that local generation phenomena are not commonly found in the solar wind and that the Alfvénic character of the fluctuations mainly depend on the ?outward? modes alone. The interaction of these modes with density and/or magnetic-field structures convected by the wind causes their destruction and a consequent depletion of the Alfvénic correlation. The same effect would be obtained if ?inward? modes were really present. Our conclusions are that large-scale ?inward? modes are the spectral counterpart of non-propagating field and plasma structures convected by the solar wind and identified as both compression regions and pressure balance structures. Summary Oblique propagating magnetohydrodynamic waves with various wave forms and amplitudes are observed both at the Earth's foreshock and at comets. The possibility of interpreting some observational results in terms of nonlinear evolution of one- and two-dimensional hydromagnetic waves is investigated. For this purpose both analytical and numerical techniques are employed. It is found that an initial monochromatic wave changes its polarization giving origin to magnetosonic shocks and rotational discontinuities; the time evolution of density-magnetic-field correlation is studied, as a function of the plasma parameters and of the propagation angle. In the two-dimensional case both a transverse instability and a self-focusing effect may take place. Moreover, a two-dimensional magnetosonic solution is found, in which the density fluctuations are driven by the total pressure fluctuation as in a one-dimensional simple wave. In this second paper, the effect of secondary electrons on the charge and potential of a dust particle immersed in plasma has been studied. The processes of electron‐induced ionization and those of photo‐electron and secondary electron emission from the particle surface as a function of primary electron temperature have been taken into account. Starting from temperatures as low as 6 eV in an Ar plasma, ionization produces an extra ion flux to the dust surface comparable to that of the ion charge exchange effect. For what concerns the surface emission, results show that a transition from negative to positive dust charge/potential takes place, and that the transition regime is characterized by a non‐monotonic behavior of the electric potential around the particle. In the case of photoelectric emission, the dust charge and potential are monotonic decreasing functions of the electron temperature, while in the case of emission induced by primary electrons a minimum charge/potential is reached before they grow towards positive values. Interaction between dusty particles remains to be an interesting issue that still requires deeper theoretical and experimental investigations. In the present paper we formulate a theoretical approach to the calculation of effective interaction potential of dust particles on the basis of Poisson equation and experimentally measured pair correlation functions. During the last 10 years, the FORS instrument of the ESO very large telescope was regularly used to obtain broadband linear polarization measurements of small bodies of the solar system. In particular, FORS was the first (and so far unique) instrument that allowed us to explore polarimetrically objects of the solar system other than planets, moons, asteroids, and active comets. From 2002 to 2010, more than 150 h of telescope time were allocated for the observations of Centaurs, trans-Neptunian objects, and cometary nuclei. With a R magnitude between 16 and 21, these targets are probably the faintest objects of the solar system ever observed in polarimetric mode. In addition to these objects, polarimetric measurements were obtained for asteroids, active comets, Mars, the Saturn moon Iapetus, and the Moon earthshine. Here we present a review of these measurements, from the strategies adopted for the observations to the observational results.  相似文献

Microparticles immersed in a low-temperature plasma acquire strong negative charges and thus repel each other. Nevertheless, effective attraction between the microparticles in such a complex plasma can occur due to the interplay between the fluxes of plasma ions and the microparticles. Here, we report the observation of droplets formed in a complex plasma during a parabolic flight, and explain their formation in terms of the ion drag force that sustains the droplet. We have found a good agreement between the experimentally determined droplet size and its theoretical estimate using the ion drag force mechanism. Lower values of the electron temperature result in better agreement, as is consistent with the pulsed mechanism of discharge used experimentally.  相似文献

Experiments and particle‐based kinetic simulations were performed to obtain the equilibrium levitation height of dust particles in plane parallel electrode discharges in low pressure argon gas, established by combined RF and DC excitation. The computed values were compared to experimental data. Using the perturbation method, a modified nonlinear Schrodinger equation contains a damping term that comes from the effect of the ion-dust collision is derived. Numerical study of the effect of dust particle concentration on the thermophoretic force acting on a dust particle inside a dust structure in plasma has been carried out. The experimental data on the formation of voids in dust structures formed by 2.55 μm dust particles in a glow dc discharge in neon have been used. The simulation has been performed using the diffusion-drift model with taking into account joule heating of discharge. The dependence of the thermophoretic force acting on a dust particle in a dust structure on the ratio of atom mean free path to the distance between the adjacent particles in the dust structure has been obtained.  相似文献

Summary In this note we describe the image acquisition system realized as a part of an experiment designed to record high-spectral-resolution solar images in the visible part of the spectrum. The system is based on a Charge Coupled Device Thomson THX31159. The electronics for driving the sensor and for the amplification and conditioning of the video signal has been designed and built in the laboratory, while a VME-bus-based computer has been used for the timing of operations, for the signal A/D conversion and for image presentation and storage.
