A new physics-based γ–kL transition model is proposed for the first time in this paper where γ is the intermittency and kL is the laminar kinetic energy. Unlike the correlation-based γ–Reθ model, the transport equations of the γ–kL model are constructed based on basic physical mechanisms and their interactions. The relationship among γ, kL and k enhances the coupling mechanism between transition and turbulence. The derivation of the γ-equation, following the definition of γ in terms of kL and k, is presented here in detail. The shear-sheltering effect is also taken into account to damp or promote the influence of bypass transition mechanism. To account for the transitional effects on the mean flow, the γ–kL model is readily coupled to the shear stress transport k–ω turbulence model via the production and destruction terms of the k-equation without any modification to the turbulence model. The ERCOFTAC test cases of T3AM, T3A and T3B are employed to validate this γ–kL model. It is found that the γ–kL model can predict the natural and bypass transitions better than the kL model and as accurately as the γ–Reθ model.  相似文献

This investigation deals with the modification of streamline curvature effects in the k-ε turbulence model for the case of recirculating flows. Based upon an idea that the modification of curvature effects in C2 should not be made in regions where the streamline curvature is small, a hybrid k-ε model extended from the modification originally proposed by Srinivasan and Mongia is developed. A satisfactory agreement of model predictions with experimental data reveals that the hybrid k-ε model can perform better simulation of recirculating turbulent flows.  相似文献

A hybrid k-ε turbulence model, based on the concept that the modification of anisotropic effects should not be made in the flow regions inherent to small streamline curvatures, has been developed and examined with the swirling recirculating flows, with the swirl levels ranging from 0·6 to 1·23 in abrupt pipe expansion. A fairly satisfactory agreement of model predictions with the experimental data shows that this hybrid k-ε model can perform better simulation of swirling recirculating flows as compared to the standard k-ε model and the modified k-ε model proposed by Abujelala and Lilley.  相似文献

A new k--fμ turbulence model is proposed, in which the near-wall effect without reference to distance and the non-equilibrium effect are incorporated. In this model, the non-local near-wall effect in a general coordinate system is taken into account by the fμ equation, and the local anisotropy in strongly strained turbulent flows in introduced in the equation. The near-wall characteristics of the present model are ascertained from the DNS data. Also, the validation is explored to separate and reattaching flows. The backward-facing step flow is selected for benchmark test of the present model and the response of the model to flows involving complex surfaces is assessed. The predictions of the present model are checked with the existing measurements. The model performance is shown to be generally satisfactory.  相似文献

在代理模型序列采样框架下,针对现有研究中的不足之处,通过引入k-fold交叉验证计算样本的预测误差,并结合泰森多边形法和最大距离最小化准则,发展了一种适用于任意代理模型的k-fold CV-Voronoi自适应序列采样方法。相较于传统序列采样方法,本文方法具有计算简单和自适应性强等显著优势。通过数值算例和工程算例对比分析发现所提序列采样方法具有较高的近似精度和计算效率,此外,进一步讨论了k-fold交叉验证中k的不同取值对于代理模型精度的影响,总结出k的最优取值范围以供参考。  相似文献

 A computational method for predicting the dispersion of gaseous emissions in regions with complex topography is presented. Different meteorological conditions, source data, and gas compositions and specific weights are taken into consideration. The three-dimensional governing equations of fluid- and thermodynamics are numerically solved by means of the finite volume method. The kɛ turbulence model is utilized to account for the turbulent nature of the flow. The numerical results obtained by the proposed method show satisfactory agreement with both results obtained by other numerical methods and experimental and/or measured data. A compressible, multiphase, one‐fluid Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes solver has been developed to study turbulent cavitating flows. The interplay between turbulence and cavitation regarding the unsteadiness and structure of the flow is complex and not well understood. This constitutes a critical point to accurately simulate the dynamic behavior of sheet cavities. In the present study, different formulations based on a k ? ? transport‐equation model are investigated and a scale‐adaptive formulation is proposed. Numerical results are given for a Venturi geometry and comparisons are made with experimental data. The scale‐adaptive model shows several improvements compared with standard turbulence models. A simplified consistency formulation for Pk/ε (production to dissipation ratio) is devised to obtain a non-singular Cμ (coefficient of eddy-viscosity) in the explicit algebraic Reynolds stress model of Gatski and Speziale. The coefficient Cμ depends non-linearly on both rotational/irrotational strains and is used in the framework of an improved RAS (Rahman–Agarwal–Siikonen) one-equation turbulence model to calculate a few well-documented turbulent flows, yielding predictions in good agreement with the direct numerical simulation and experimental data. The strain-dependent Cμ assists the RAS model in constructing the coefficients and functions such as to benefit complex flows with non-equilibrium turbulence. Comparisons with the Spalart–Allmaras one-equation model and the shear stress transport k-ω model demonstrate that Cμ improves the response of RAS model to non-equilibrium effects.  相似文献

A low‐Reynolds number kε turbulence model is proposed that incorporates diffusion terms and modified Cε(1,2) coefficients to amplify the level of dissipation in non‐equilibrium flow regions, thus reducing the kinetic energy and length scale magnitudes to improve prediction of adverse pressure gradient flows, involving flow separation and reattachment. Unlike the conventional kε model, it requires no wall function/distance parameter that bridges the near‐wall integration. The model is validated against a few flow cases, yielding predictions in good agreement with the direct numerical simulation (DNS) and experimental data. Turbulent cavitating flow computations need to address both cavitation and turbulence modelling issues. A recently developed interfacial dynamics‐based cavitation model (IDCM) incorporates the interfacial transport into the computational modelling of cavitation dynamics. For time‐dependent flows, it is known that the engineering turbulence closure such as the original kε model often over‐predicts the eddy viscosity values reducing the unsteadiness. A recently proposed filter‐based modification has shown that it can effectively modulate the eddy viscosity, rendering better simulation capabilities for time‐dependent flow computations in term of the unsteady characteristics. In the present study, the IDCM along with the filter‐based kε turbulence model is adopted to simulate 2‐D cavitating flows over the Clark‐Y airfoil. The chord Reynolds number is Re=7.0 × 105. Two angles‐of‐attack of 5 and 8° associated with several cavitation numbers covering different flow regimes are conducted. The simulation results are assessed with the experimental data including lift, drag and velocity profiles. The interplay between cavitation and turbulence models reveals substantial differences in time‐dependent flow results even though the time‐averaged characteristics are similar. The paper explores the possibilities that different turbulence closures offer, for in‐depth analysis of a complex flow. The case under investigation is steady, turbulent flow in a pipe with sudden expansion without/with normal‐to‐wall injection through jets. This is a typical geometry where generation of turbulence energy takes place, due to sudden change in boundary conditions. This study is aimed at investigating the capability of a developed computational program by the present authors with three different turbulence models to calculate the mean flow variables. Three two‐equation models are implemented, namely the standard linear k ? ε model, the low Reynolds number k ? ε model and the cubic nonlinear eddy viscosity (NLEV) k ? ε model. The performance of the chosen turbulence models is investigated with regard to the available data in the literature including velocity profiles, turbulent kinetic energy and reattachment position in a pipe expansion. In order to further assess the reliability of the turbulence models, an experimental program was conducted by the present authors also at the fluid mechanics laboratory of Menoufiya University. Preliminary measurements, including the surface pressure along the two walls of the expansion pipe and the pressure drop without and with the presence of different arrangements of wall jets produced by symmetrical or asymmetrical fluid cross‐flow injection, are introduced. The results of the present studies demonstrate the superiority of the cubic NLEV k ? ε model in predicting the flow characteristics over the entire domain. The simple low Reynolds number k ? ε model also gives good prediction, especially when the reattachment point is concerned. The evaluation of the reattachment point and the pressure‐loss coefficient is numerically addressed in the paper using the cubic NLEV k ? ε model. The results show that the injection location can control the performance of the pipe‐expansion system. It is concluded that the introduction of flow injection can increase the energy loss in the pipe expansion. The near‐field turbulence structure is also considered in the present study and it is noticed that the turbulence level is strongly affected by the cross‐flow injection and the jet location. This paper presents a finite difference technique for solving incompressible turbulent free surface fluid flow problems. The closure of the time‐averaged Navier–Stokes equations is achieved by using the two‐equation eddy‐viscosity model: the high‐Reynolds k–ε (standard) model, with a time scale proposed by Durbin; and a low‐Reynolds number form of the standard k–ε model, similar to that proposed by Yang and Shih. In order to achieve an accurate discretization of the non‐linear terms, a second/third‐order upwinding technique is adopted. The computational method is validated by applying it to the flat plate boundary layer problem and to impinging jet flows. The method is then applied to a turbulent planar jet flow beneath and parallel to a free surface. Computations show that the high‐Reynolds k–ε model yields favourable predictions both of the zero‐pressure‐gradient turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate and jet impingement flows.  A comprehensive experimental study of the volumetric transfer coefficient k L a with Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in bubble columns using CO2 as gas phase is the objective of this work. The evaluation of the hydrodynamic characteristics of the bubble columns and delineated the different hydrodynamic regimes considering column geometry, gas flow, liquid height and type of fluid (Newtonian and non-Newtonian) suggest a general applicability of the proposed model. An explanation about of the k L a values in non-Newtonian fluid is offered take into account shear rate, column geometry, viscosity and results reported in the literature previously. A family of positivity preserving pointwise implicit schemes applicable to source term dominated problems is constructed, where the minimum order of spatial accuracy is one and the maximum is three. It is designed for achieving steady state numerical solutions and is constructed through the analysis of appropriate model problems, where the convective fluxes for the higher‐order members are prescribed by the Chakravarthy–Osher family of total variation diminishing (TVD) schemes. Multidimensionality is facilitated by operator splitting. Numerical experimentation confirms the stability, convergence, accuracy, positivity, and computational efficiency associated with the proposed schemes. These schemes are ideally suited to solving the low‐Reynolds number turbulent k–ϵ equations for which the positivity of k and ϵ and the presence of stiff source terms are critical issues. Hence, using a finite volume formulation of these schemes, the low‐Reynolds number Chien k–ϵ turbulence model is implemented for a flat plate geometry and a series of turbulent flow (steady state) computations are carried out to demonstrate the positivity, robustness, and reliability of the algorithm. The free‐stream and initial k and ϵ values are specified in a very simple manner. Algorithm convergence acceleration is achieved using Multigrid techniques. Large‐eddy simulation (LES) and Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes simulation (RANS) with different turbulence models (including the standard k?ε, the standard k?ω, the shear stress transport k?ω (SST k?ω), and Spalart–Allmaras (S–A) turbulence models) have been employed to compute the turbulent flow of a two‐dimensional turbulent boundary layer over an unswept bump. The predictions of the simulations were compared with available experimental measurements in the literature. The comparisons of the LES and the SST k?ω model including the mean flow and turbulence stresses are in satisfied agreements with the available measurements. Although the flow experiences a strong adverse pressure gradient along the rear surface, the boundary layer is unique in that intermittent detachment occurring near the wall. The numerical results indicate that the boundary layer is not followed by mean‐flow separation or incipient separation as shown from the numerical results. The resolved turbulent shear stress is in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data, though the computational result of LES shows that its peak is overpredicted near the trailing edge of the bump, while the other used turbulence models, except the standard k?ε, underpredicts it. Analysis of the numerical results from LES confirms the experimental data, in which the existence of internal layers over the bump surface upstream of the summit and along the downstream flat plate. It also demonstrates that the quasi‐step increase in skin friction is due to perturbations in pressure gradient. The surface curvature enhances the near‐wall shear production of turbulent stresses, and is responsible for the formation of the internal layers. The aim of the present work is to examine the response and prediction capability of LES with the dynamic eddy viscosity model as a sub‐grid scale to the complex turbulence structure with the presence of streamline curvature generated by a bumpy surface. Aiming to reduce the computational costs with focus on the mean behavior of the non‐equilibrium turbulent boundary layer of flow over the bump surface, the present investigation also explains the best capability of one of the used RANS turbulence models to capture the driving mechanism for the surprisingly rapid return to equilibrium over the trailing flat plate found in the measurements. A generalized treatment for the wall boundary conditions relating to turbulent flows is developed that blends the integration to a solid wall with wall functions. The blending function ensures a smooth transition between the viscous and turbulent regions. An improved low Reynolds number k?ε model is coupled with the proposed compound wall treatment to determine the turbulence field. The eddy viscosity formulation maintains the positivity of normal Reynolds stresses and Schwarz' inequality for turbulent shear stresses. The model coefficients/functions preserve the anisotropic characteristics of turbulence. Computations with fine and coarse meshes of a few flow cases yield appreciably good agreement with the direct numerical simulation and experimental data. The method is recommended for computing the complex flows where computational grids cannot satisfy a priori the prerequisites of viscous/turbulence regions. This paper presents a manufactured solution (MS), resembling a two-dimensional, steady, wall-bounded, incompressible, turbulent flow for RANS codes verification. The specified flow field satisfies mass conservation, but requires additional source terms in the momentum equations. To also allow verification of the correct implementation of the turbulence models transport equations, the proposed MS exhibits most features of a true near-wall turbulent flow. The model is suited for testing six eddy-viscosity turbulence models: the one-equation models of Spalart and Allmaras and Menter; the standard two-equation k–ε model and the low-Reynolds version proposed by Chien; the TNT and BSL versions of the k–ω model.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to describe a finite element formulation for solving the equations for k and ε of the classical k–ε turbulence model, or any other two‐equation model. The finite element discretization is based on the SUPG method together with a discontinuity capturing technique to deal with sharp internal and boundary layers. The iterative strategy consists of several nested loops, the outermost being the linearization of the Navier–Stokes equations. The basic k–ε model is used for the implementation of an algebraic stress model that is able to account for the effects of rotation. Some numerical examples are presented in order to show the performance of the proposed scheme for simulating directly steady flows, without the need of reaching the steady state through a transient evolution. An intermittency transport equation is developed in this study to model the laminar-turbulence boundary layer transition at supersonic and hypersonic conditions. The model takes into account the effects of different instability modes associated with the variations in Mach numbers. The model equation is based on the intermittency factor γ concept and couples with the well-known SST kω eddy-viscosity model in the solution procedures. The particular features of the present model approach are that: (1) the fluctuating kinetic energy k includes the non-turbulent, as well as turbulent fluctuations; (2) the proposed transport equation for the intermittency factor γ triggers the transition onset through a source term; (3) through the introduction of a new length scale normal to wall, the present model employs the local variables only avoiding the use of the integral parameters, like the boundary layer thickness δ, which are often cost-ineffective with the modern CFD methods; (4) in the fully turbulent region, the model retreats to SST model. This model is validated with a number of available experiments on boundary layer transition including the incompressible, supersonic and hypersonic flows past flat plates, straight/flared cones at zero incidences, etc. It is demonstrated that the present model can be successfully applied to the engineering calculations of a variety of aerodynamic flow transition with a reasonably wide range of Mach numbers.  相似文献

Using a piezo rotary and axial vibrator (PRAV) the viscoelastic properties of a fresh Al2O3 coating that is deposited on a well-chosen plate can be measured simultaneously during drying. There are three types of vibrations available to be excited and detected in their resonance modes, by measuring resonance frequencies f k and half-widths h k, before and after coating as a function of time: axial vibration, bending vibration to get the evolving Young’s modulus and rotary vibration to follow the viscosity increase during drying of the thin coating. This information is contained in the complex frequency shifts Ωk = 2Δf k /f k + iΔh k /f k of the three vibration modes caused by the coating on the plate. A derivation of the relationships, their validation on Newtonian liquids and experimental applications carried out using the PRAV are given in the paper.  相似文献
