Flux splitting is applied to the convective part of the steady Navier–Stokes equations for incompressible flow. Partial upwind differences are introduced in the split first-order part, while central differences are used in the second-order part. The discrete set of equations obtained is positive, so that it can be solved by collective variants of relaxation methods. The partial upwinding is optimized in the same way as for a scalar convection–diffusion equation, but involving several Peclet numbers. It is shown that with the optimum partial upwinding accurate results can be obtained. A full multigrid method in W-cycle form, using red–black successive under-relaxation, injection and bilinear interpolation, is described. The efficiency of this method is demonstrated.  相似文献

A nested non-linear multigrid algorithm is developed to solve the Navier–Stokes equations which describe the steady incompressible flow past a sphere. The vorticity–streamfunction formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations is chosen. The continuous operators are discretized by an upwind finite difference scheme. Several algorithms are tested as smoothing steps. The multigrid method itself provides only a first-order-accurate solution. To obtain at least second-order accuracy, a defect correction iteration is used as outer iteration. Results are reported for Re = 50, 100, 400 and 1000.  相似文献

A collocated discretization of the 3D steady incompressible Navier–Stokes equations based on a flux-difference-splitting formulation is presented. The discretization employs primitive variables of Cartesian velocity components and pressure. The splitting used here is a polynomial splitting introduced by Dick and Linden of Roe type. Second-order accuracy is obtained with the defect correction approach in which the state vector is inter-polated with van Leer's κ-scheme. The underlying solution technique to solve the discretized equations is a parallel multiblock multigrid method. Several 2D and 3D test problems such as driven cavity and channel flows are solved.  相似文献

A discretization method is presented for the full, steady, compressible Navier–Stokes equations. The method makes use of quadrilateral finite volumes and consists of an upwind discretization of the convective part and a central discretization of the diffusive part. In the present paper the emphasis lies on the discretization of the convective part. The solution method applied solves the steady equations directly by means of a non-linear relaxation method accelerated by multigrid. The solution method requires the discretization to be continuously differentiable. For two upwind schemes which satisfy this requirement (Osher's and van Leer's scheme), results of a quantitative error analysis are presented. Osher's scheme appears to be increasingly more accurate than van Leer's scheme with increasing Reynolds number. A suitable higher-order accurate discretization of the convection terms is derived. On the basis of this higher-order scheme, to preserve monotonicity, a new limiter is constructed. Numerical results are presented for a subsonic flat plate flow and a supersonic flat plate flow with oblique shock wave–boundary layer interaction. The results obtained agree with the predictions made. Useful properties of the discretization method are that it allows an easy check of false diffusion and that it needs no tuning of parameters.  相似文献

The flux-vector splitting method is applied to the convective part of the steady Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flow. By the use of partial upwind differences in the split first-order part and central differences in the second-order part, a set of discrete equations is obtained which can be solved by vector variants of classical relaxation schemes. It is shown that accurate results can be obtained on one of the GAMM backward-facing step test problems.  相似文献

An upwind finite difference scheme based on flux difference splitting is presented for the solution of the equations governing unsteady open channel hydraulics. An approximate Jacobian needed for splitting the flux differences is defined that satisfies the conditions required to construct a first-order upwind conservative discretization of the equations. Added limited second-order corrections make the resulting scheme robust and accurate for the computation of all regimes of open channel flow. Some numerical results and comparisons with other classical schemes under exacting conditions are presented.  相似文献

This work builds on a SIMPLE-type code to produce two numerical codes of greatly improved speed and accuracy for solution of the Navier–Stokes equations. Both implicit and explicit codes employ an improved QUICK (quadratic upstream interpolation for convective kinematics) scheme to finite difference convective terms for non-uniform grids. The PRIME (update pressure implicit, momentum explicit) algorithm is used as the computational procedure for the implicit code. Use of both the ICCG (incomplete Cholesky decomposition, conjugate gradient) method and the MG (multigrid) technique to enhance solution execution speed is illustrated. While the implicit code is first-order in time, the explicit is second-order accurate. Two- and three-dimensional forced convection and sidewall-heated natural convection flows in a cavity are chosen as test cases. Predictions with the new schemes show substantial computational savings and very good agreement when compared to previous simulations and experimental data.  相似文献

We present an eigen‐decomposition of the quasi‐linear convective flux formulation of the completely coupled Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes and turbulence model equations. Based on these results, we formulate different approximate Riemann solvers that can be used as numerical flux functions in a DG discretization. The effect of the different strategies on the solution accuracy is investigated with numerical examples. The actual computations are performed using a p‐multigrid algorithm. To this end, we formulate a framework with a backward‐Euler smoother in which the linear systems are solved with a general preconditioned Krylov method. We present matrix‐free implementations and memory‐lean line‐Jacobi preconditioners and compare the effects of some parameter choices. In particular, p‐multigrid is found to be less efficient than might be expected from recent findings by other authors. This might be due to the consideration of turbulent flow. This paper considers the streamline‐upwind Petrov–Galerkin (SUPG) method applied to the unsteady compressible Navier–Stokes equations in conservation‐variable form. The spatial discretization, including a modified approach for interpolating the inviscid flux terms in the SUPG finite element formulation, and the second‐order accurate time discretization are presented. The numerical method is discussed in detail. The performance of the algorithm is then investigated by considering inviscid flow past a circular cylinder. Validation of the finite element formulation via comparisons with experimental data for high‐Mach number perfect gas laminar flows is presented, with a specific focus on comparisons with experimentally measured skin friction and convective heat transfer on a 15° compression ramp.

A high‐resolution upwind compact method based on flux splitting is developed for solving the compressive Euler equations. The convective flux terms are discretized by using the modified advection upstream splitting method (AUSM). The developed scheme is used to compute the one‐dimensional Burgers equation and four different example problems of supersonic compressible flows, respectively. The results show that the high‐resolution upwind compact scheme based on modified AUSM+ flux splitting can capture shock wave and other discontinuities, obtain higher resolution and restrain numerical oscillation. We develop simulation tools for the non-stationary incompressible 2D Navier--Stokes equations. The most important components of the finite element code are: the fractional step ?-scheme, which is of second-order accuracy and strongly A-stable, for the time discretization; a fixed point defect correction method with adaptive step length control for the non-linear problems (stationary Navier-Stokes equations); a modified upwind discretization of higher-order accuracy for the convective terms. Finally, the resulting nonsymmetric linear subproblems are treated by a special multigrid algorithm which is adapted to the quadrilateral non-conforming discretely divergence-free finite elements. For the graphical postprocess we use a fully non-stationary and interactive particle-tracing method. With extensive test calculations we show that our method is a candidate for a ‘black box’ solver.  相似文献

A pseudo-spectral solver with multigrid acceleration for the numerical prediction of incompressible non-isothermal flows is presented. The spatial discretization is based on a Chebyshev collocation method on Gauss–Lobatto points and for the discretization in time the second-order backward differencing scheme (BDF2) is employed. The multigrid method is invoked at the level of algebraic system solving within a pressure-correction method. The approach combines the high accuracy of spectral methods with efficient solver properties of multigrid methods. The capabilities of the proposed scheme are illustrated by a buoyancy driven cavity flow as a standard benchmark case. To cite this article: K. Krastev, M. Schäfer, C. R. A modified MAC method (SIMAC; semi-implicit marker and cell) is proposed which accurately treats unsteady high-Reynolds free surface problems. SIMAC solves the Navier–Stokes equations in primitive variables on a non-uniform staggered Cartesian grid by means of a finite difference scheme. The convective term is treated explicitly by employing a second-order upwind scheme in space (HLPA) and the Adams–Bashforth technique in time. The diffusive part is solved by means of the implicit approximate factorization technique. A multigrid technique based on the additive correction strategy is employed to solve the Poisson equation for the pressure. Finally, the free surface treatment is carried out using massless particles which divide the domain of integration into full and empty cells as in a standard MAC method. The algorithm is used for the analysis of large-amplitude water sloshing in rectangular unbaffled and baffled containers. Experimental tests have been carried out in order to validate the algorithm. Numerical results satisfactorily agree with experimental data for the whole range of filing conditions analysed here. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A least‐squares meshfree method based on the first‐order velocity–pressure–vorticity formulation for two‐dimensional incompressible Navier–Stokes problem is presented. The convective term is linearized by successive substitution or Newton's method. The discretization of all governing equations is implemented by the least‐squares method. Equal‐order moving least‐squares approximation is employed with Gauss quadrature in the background cells. The boundary conditions are enforced by the penalty method. The matrix‐free element‐by‐element Jacobi preconditioned conjugate method is applied to solve the discretized linear systems. Cavity flow for steady Navier–Stokes problem and the flow over a square obstacle for time‐dependent Navier–Stokes problem are investigated for the presented least‐squares meshfree method. The effects of inaccurate integration on the accuracy of the solution are investigated. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The gas-liquid-solid three-phase mixed flow is the most general in multiphase mixed transportation. It is significant to exactly solve the coupling hydraulic transient problems of this type of multiphase mixed flow in pipelines. Presently, the method of characteristics is widely used to solve classical hydraulic transient problems. However, when it is used to solve coupling hydraulic transient problems, excessive interpolation errors may be introduced into the results due to unavoidable multiwave interpolated calculations. To deal with the problem, a finite difference scheme based on the Steger-Warming flux vector splitting is proposed. A flux vector splitting scheme is established for the coupling hydraulic transient model of gas-liquid-solid three-phase mixed flow in the pipelines. The flux subvectors are then discretized by the Lax-Wendroff central difference scheme and the Warming-Beam upwind difference scheme with second-order precision in both time and space. Under the Rankine-Hugoniot conditions and the corresponding boundary conditions, an effective solution to those points located at the boundaries is developed, which can avoid the problem beyond the calculation region directly induced by the second-order discrete technique. Numerical and experimental verifications indicate that the proposed scheme has several desirable advantages including high calculation precision, excellent shock wave capture capability without false numerical oscillation, low sensitivity to the Courant number, and good stability.  相似文献

This paper presents a local mesh refinement procedure based on a discretization over internal interfaces where the averaging is performed on the coarse side. It is implemented in a multigrid environment but can optionally be used without it. The discretization for the convective terms in the velocity and the temperature equation is the QUICK scheme, while the HYBRID-UPWIND scheme is used in the turbulence equations. The turbulence model used is a two-layer k–ϵ model. We have applied this formulation on a backward-facing step at Re=800 and on a three-dimensional turbulent ventilated enclosure, where we have resolved a geometrically complex inlet consisting of 84 nozzles. In both cases the concept of local mesh refinements was found to be an efficient and accurate solution strategy. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Least square methods have been frequently used to solve fluid mechanics problems. Their specific usefulness is emphasized for the solution of a first-order conservation equation. On the one hand, the least square formulation embeds the first-order problem into equivalent second-order problem, better adapted to discretization techniques due to symmetry and positive-definiteness of the associated matrix. On the other hand, the introduction of a least square functional is convenient for finite element applications. This approach is applied to the model problem of the conservation of mass (the unknown is the density ρ) in a nozzle with a specified velocity field (u, v), possibly including jumps along lines simulating shock waves. This represent a preliminary study towards the solution of the steady Euler equations. A finite difference and a finite element method are presented. The choice of the finite difference scheme and of a continuous finite element representation for the groups of variables (ρu, ρv) is discussed in terms of conservation of mass flux. Results obtained with both methods are compared in two numerical tests with the same mesh system.  相似文献

A numerical method has been developed to solve the steady and unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a two-dimensional, curvilinear coordinate system. The solution procedure is based on the method of artificial compressibility and uses a third-order flux-difference splitting upwind differencing scheme for convective terms and second-order center difference for viscous terms. A time-accurate scheme for unsteady incompressible flows is achieved by using an implicit real time discretization and a dual-time approach, which introduces pseudo-unsteady terms into both the mass conservation equation and momentum equations. An efficient fully implicit algorithm LU-SGS, which was originally derived for the compressible Eulur and Navier-Stokes equations by Jameson and Toon [1], is developed for the pseudo-compressibility formulation of the two dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for both steady and unsteady flows. A variety of computed results are presented to validate the present scheme. Numerical solutions for steady flow in a square lid-driven cavity and over a backward facing step and for unsteady flow in a square driven cavity with an oscillating lid and in a circular tube with a smooth expansion are respectively presented and compared with experimental data or other numerical results.  相似文献

The AUFS scheme has been presented for solving the Euler equations [Sun, M., Takayama, K., 2003. An artificially upstream flux vector splitting scheme for the Euler equations. Journal of Computational Physics, 189, 305–329]. An extension of this high resolution scheme-based on upwind numerical methods has been developed to calculate a two-dimensional hypersonic viscous flowfield in thermochemical non-equilibrium. The time-dependent Navier–Stokes governing equations are computed by using a multi-block finite volume technique on a structured mesh. The convective fluxes at the interfaces are evaluated using a flux vector splitting (FVS) method with a second-order reconstruction of the interface values and the viscous terms are discretised by second-order central differences. A better evaluation of aerodynamic parameters are obtained with this AUFS scheme and they are also compared to those obtained by previous works. The freestream flow conditions of these computations correspond to high-enthalpy flows with a Mach number range between 6.4 and 25.9. The obtained numerical results indicate that the AUFS scheme is accurate, robust, and efficient for the calculation of hypersonic flow.  相似文献
