A series of poly(trimethylenecarbonate‐ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(p‐dioxanone) copolymers were prepared with varying feed rations by using two step polymerization reactions. Poly(trimethylenecarbonate)(ε‐caprolactone) random copolymer was synthesized with stannous‐2‐ethylhexanoate and followed by adding p‐dioxanone monomer as the other block. The ring opening polymerization was carried out at high temperature and long reaction time to get high molecular weight polymers. The monofilament fibers were obtained using conventional melting spun methods. The copolymers were identified by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The physicochemical properties, such as viscosity, molecular weight, melting point, glass transition temperature, and crystallinity, were studied. The hydrolytic degradation of copolymers was studied in a phosphate buffer solution, pH = 7.2, 37 °C, and a biological absorbable test was performed in rats. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined diblock and triblock copolymers composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) were successfully synthesized through the reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) with PEO capped with one or two dithiobenzoyl groups as a macrotransfer agent. 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and gel permeation chromatography instruments were used to characterize the block copolymers obtained. The results showed that the diblock and triblock copolymers had well‐defined structures and narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.2), and the molecular weight of the PNIPAM block in the diblock and triblock copolymers could be controlled by the initial molar ratio of NIPAM to dithiobenzoate‐terminated PEO and the NIPAM conversion. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable star‐shaped poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(lactide) copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of lactide, using star poly(ethylene glycol) as an initiator and potassium hexamethyldisilazide as a catalyst. Polymerizations were carried out in toluene at room temperature. Two series of three‐ and four‐armed PEG‐PLA copolymers were synthesized and characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) as well as 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The polymerization under the used conditions is very fast, yielding copolymers of controlled molecular weight and tailored molecular architecture. The chemical structure of the copolymers investigated by 1H and 13C NMR indicates the formation of block copolymers. The monomodal profile of molecular weight distribution by GPC provided further evidence of controlled and defined star‐shaped copolymers as well as the absence of cyclic oligomeric species. The effects of copolymer composition and lactide stereochemistry on the physical properties were investigated by GPC and differential scanning calorimetry. For the same PLA chain length, the materials obtained in the case of linear copolymers are more viscous, whereas in the case of star copolymer, solid materials are obtained with reduction in their Tg and Tm temperatures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Linear and four‐armed poly(l ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(d ‐lactide) (PLLA‐b‐PDLA) block copolymers are synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of d ‐lactide on the end hydroxyl of linear and four‐armed PLLA prepolymers. DSC results indicate that the melting temperature and melting enthalpies of poly (lactide) stereocomplex in the copolymers are obviously lower than corresponding linear and four‐armed PLLA/PDLA blends. Compared with the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA copolymer, the similar linear PLLA‐b‐PDLA shows higher melting temperature (212.3 °C) and larger melting enthalpy (70.6 J g?1). After these copolymers blend with additional neat PLAs, DSC, and WAXD results show that the stereocomplex formation between free PLA molecular chain and enantiomeric PLA block is the major stereocomplex formation. In the linear copolymer/linear PLA blends, the stereocomplex crystallites (sc) as well as homochiral crystallites (hc) form in the copolymer/PLA cast films. However, in the four‐armed copolymer/linear PLA blends, both sc and hc develop in the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA/PDLA specimen, which means that the stereocomplexation mainly forms between free PDLA molecule and the inside PLLA block, and the outside PDLA block could form some microcrystallites. Although the melting enthalpies of stereocomplexes in the blends are smaller than that of neat copolymers, only two‐thirds of the molecular chains participate in the stereocomplex formation, and the crystallization efficiency strengthens. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of poly(acrylonitrile)-block-poly-(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(acrylonitrile) copolymers has been carried out using a redox system consisting of ceric ion and poly(ethylene glycol)s of various molecular weights in aqueous medium. The generation of intermediate radicals in the redox process has been confirmed by ESR spectroscopy and the polymerization progressing through ‘blocking from’ mechanism has been postulated. The formation of the block copolymers has been confirmed by chemical tests and fractional precipitation technique as well as by FT-IR and FT-NMR [1H and 13C–(1H)] spectroscopic techniques. The triblock nature of the block copolymers has been ascertained through the cleavage of ether linkage of the PEG segment. TG/DTA studies of the block copolymers with PEG molecular weights of 1000 and above revealed two-stage decomposition, while their DSC traces exhibited a shift in the melting peak of PEG. GPC investigations of the block copolymers manifested a high homogeneity with unimodal distribution of molecular weights. SEM studies indicated significant changes in the morphological characteristics of the block copolymers. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Biodegradable and amphiphilic diblock copolymers [polylactide-block-poly(ethylene glycol)] and triblock copolymers [polylactide-block-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-polylactide] were synthesized by the anionic ring-opening polymerization of lactides in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether or poly(ethylene glycol) and potassium hexamethyldisilazide as a catalyst. The polymerization in toluene at room temperature was very fast, yielding copolymers of controlled molecular weights and tailored molecular architectures. The chemical structure of the copolymers was investigated with 1H and 13C NMR. The formation of block copolymers was confirmed by 13C NMR and differential scanning calorimetry investigations. The monomodal profile of the molecular weight distribution by gel permeation chromatography provided further evidence of block copolymer formation as well as the absence of cyclic species. Additional confirmation of the block copolymers was obtained by the substitution of 2-butanol for poly(ethylene glycol); butyl groups were clearly identified by 1H NMR as polymer chain end groups. The effects of the copolymer composition and lactide stereochemistry on the copolymer properties were examined. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermogravimetric analysis (TG) of two series of tri-block copolymers based on poly(L,L-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG) segments, having molar mass of 4000 or 600 g mol–1, respectively, is reported. The prepared block copolymers presented wide range of molecular masses (800 to 47500 g mol–1) and compositions (16 to 80 mass% PEG). The thermal stability increased with the PLLA and/or PEG segment size and the tri-block copolymers prepared from PEG 4000 started to decompose at higher temperatures compared to those copolymers from PEG 600. The copolymers compositions were determined by thermogravimetric analysis and the results were compared to other traditional quantitative spectroscopic methods, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (1HNMR) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). The PEG 4000 copolymer compositions calculated by TG and by 1HNMR, presented differences of 1%, demonstrating feasibility of using thermogravimetric analysis for quantitative purposes.  相似文献

Novel biodegradable poly(ester anhydride) block copolymers based on ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and adipic anhydride (AA) were prepared by sequential polymerization. ε‐CL was first initiated by potassium poly(ethylene glycol)ate and polymerized into active chains (PCL‐O?K+), which were then used to initiate the ring‐opening polymerization of AA. The effects of the AA feed ratio, solvent polarity, monomer concentration, and temperature on sequential polymerization were investigated. The copolymers, obtained under different conditions, were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The GPC results showed that the weight‐average molecular weights of the block copolymers were approximately 6.0 × 104. The DSC results indicated the immiscibility of the two components. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 1511–1520, 2003  相似文献

A model graft copolymer in which position of graft points was set to the center of a backbone molecule was prepared via anionic living polymerization. Polystyrene-block-poly(p-tert-butoxystyrene)-block-polystyrene (PSt-b-PBSt-b-PSt) was prepared by three-stage sequential addition. The tert-butyl group was removed from PBSt by hydrogen bromide to yield PSt-b-PHSt-b-PSt, having a poly(p-hydroxystyrene) (PHSt) block. The hydroxyl group of PHSt was reacted with dimeric potassium dianions of 1, 1-diphenylethylene (DPE-K) or cumyl potassium (cumyl K) to yield the corresponding macromolecular initiators of PSt-b-PHStK+-b-PSt containing the potassium alkoxide ion of PHSt. The newly formed alkoxide groups and remaining initiators of DPE-K or cumyl K are capable of initiating the additionally introduced ethylene oxide (EO). Thus, two block–graft copolymers of polystyrene-block-[poly(p-hydroxystyrene)-graft-poly(ethylene oxide)]-block-polystyrene (PSt-b-(PHSt-g-PEO)-b-PSt) were prepared by a “grafting from” process (backbone initiation). A PSt-b-PHSt-b-PSt backbone (Mn = 1.75 × 105 by osmometry and Mw/Mn = 1.08 by GPC), and two PSt-b-(PHSt-g-PEO)-b-PSt block–graft copolymers (Mn = 2.45 × 105 by osmometry and Mw/Mn < 1.10 by GPC) had narrow molecular weight distributions. A relationship between nonquantitative metallation and spacing of the graft points on a backbone molecule was discussed in detail. Two benzene-cast films formed clear microphase-separated structures of lamellar structure. The dependence of composition on the morphology of the block–graft copolymers was found to differ from that of common block copolymers. A degree of crystallinity of PEO segment and lamellar thickness of PEO phase serving as graft molecule were also found to differ from those of homo PEO and/or PEO segment in common block copolymer. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Azo group-containing polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS–ACP), macroazoinitiators, were prepared by polycondensation reaction of 4,4′-azobis-4-cyanopentanoyl chloride (ACPC) with hydroxybutyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) of varying molecular weights. The activation energy (Ea), activation enthalpy (ΔH), and activation entropy (ΔS) of the thermodecomposition of PDMS-ACP in toluene increased with increase in poly-dimethyl-siloxane chain length (SCL) in PDMS moieties, while the activation free energy (ΔG) was independent on the SCL. The polydimethylsiloxane-poly(methyl methacrylate) block copolymers (PDMS-b-PMMA) were prepared by the use of PDMS-ACP macroazoinitiators, and they were characterized by 1H-, 29Si-, and 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. The microstructure and morphology of copolymers were investigated by proton spin–spin relaxation measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

This article discusses an effective route to prepare amphiphilic diblock copolymers containing a poly(ethylene oxide) block and a polyolefin block that includes semicrystalline thermoplastics, such as polyethylene and syndiotactic polystyrene (s‐PS), and elastomers, such as poly(ethylene‐co‐1‐octene) and poly(ethylene‐co‐styrene) random copolymers. The broad choice of polyolefin blocks provides the amphiphilic copolymers with a wide range of thermal properties from high melting temperature ~270 °C to low glass‐transition temperature ~?60 °C. The chemistry involves two reaction steps, including the preparation of a borane group‐terminated polyolefin by the combination of a metallocene catalyst and a borane chain‐transfer agent as well as the interconversion of a borane terminal group to an anionic (? O?K+) terminal group for the subsequent ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide. The overall reaction process resembles a transformation from the metallocene polymerization of α‐olefins to the ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide. The well‐defined reaction mechanisms in both steps provide the diblock copolymer with controlled molecular structure in terms of composition, molecular weight, moderate molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn < 2.5), and absence of homopolymer. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The block copolymers of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) were synthesized by melt processing for different times. The sequence distribution, thermal properties, and crystallization behavior were investigated over a wide range of compositions. For PBS/PBT block copolymers it was confirmed by statistical analysis from 1H-NMR data that the degree of randomness (B) was below 1. The melting peak (Tm) gradually moved to lower temperature with increasing melt processing time. It can be seen that the transesterification between PBS and PBT leads to a random copolymer. From the X-ray diffraction diagrams, only the crystal structure of PBS appeared in the M1 copolymer (PBS 80 wt %) and that of PBT appeared in the M3 (PBS 50 wt %) to M5 (PBS 20 wt %) copolymers. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel AB2‐type amphiphilic block copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide), PEG‐b‐(PNIPAM)2, were successfully synthesized through single‐electron transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP). A difunctional macroinitiator was prepared by esterification of 2,2‐dichloroacetyl chloride with poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (PEG). The copolymers were obtained via the SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) with CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine (Me6TREN) as catalytic system and DMF/H2O (v/v = 3:1) mixture as solvent. The resulting copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. These block copolymers show controllable molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (PDI < 1.15). Their phase transition temperatures and the corresponding enthalpy changes in aqueous solution were measured by differential scanning calorimetry. As a result, the phase transition temperature of PEG44b‐(PNIPAM55)2 is similar to that in the case of PEG44b‐PNIPAM110; however, the corresponding enthalpy change is much lower, indicating the significant influence of the macromolecular architecture on the phase transition. This is the first study into the effect of macromolecular architecture on the phase transition using AB2‐type amphiphilic block copolymer composed of PEG and PNIPAM. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four generations of new amphiphilic thermoresponsive linear‐dendritic block copolymers (LDBCs) with a linear poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) block and a dendritic poly(benzyl ether) block are synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of N‐vinylcaprolactam (NVCL) using dendritic poly(benzyl ether) chlorides as initiators. The copolymers have been characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, and GPC showing controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution (PDI ≤ 1.25). Their self‐organization in aqueous media and thermoresponsive property are highly dependent on the generation of dendritic poly(benzyl ether) block. It is observed for the LDBCs that the self‐assembled morphology changes from irregularly spherical micelles, vesicles, rod‐like large compound vesicles (LCVs), to the coexistence of spherical micelles and rod‐like LCVs, as the generation of the dendritic poly(benzyl ether) increases. The results of a cytotoxicity study using an MTT assay method with L929 cells show that the LDBCs are biocompatible. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Characterization of block size in poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(styrene) (PEO‐b‐PS) block copolymers could be achieved by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF‐MS) after scission of the macromolecules into their constituent blocks. The performed hydrolytic cleavage was demonstrated to specifically occur on the targeted ester function in the junction group, yielding two homopolymers consisting of the constitutive initial blocks. This approach allows the use of well‐established MALDI protocols for a complete copolymer characterization while circumventing difficulties inherent to amphiphilic macromolecule ionization. Although the labile end‐group in PS homopolymer was modified by the MALDI process, PS block size could be determined from MS data since polymer chains were shown to remain intact during ionization. This methodology has been validated for a PEO‐b‐PS sample series, with two PEO of number average molecular weight (Mn) of 2000 and 5000 g mol?1 and Mn(PS) ranging from 4000 to 21,000 g mol?1. Weight average molecular weight (Mw), and thus polydispersity index, could also be reached for each segment and were consistent with values obtained by size exclusion chromatography. This approach is particularly valuable in the case of amphiphilic copolymers for which Mn values as determined by liquid state nuclear magnetic resonance might be affected by micelle formation. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of amphiphilic polyisobutylene-block-poly(vinyl alcohol) (PIB-b-PVA) copolymers of constant PIB and varying PVA block length was synthesized by living carbocationic polymerization and their solution behavior was studied. The synthesis involved the preparation of polyisobutylene-b-poly(tert.-butyl vinyl ether) followed by hydrolysis with hydrogen bromide. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, 1H-NMR, and MALDI-TOF MS methods. The micellization behavior of the copolymers was investigated in aqueous media by direct dissolution and dialysis using static and dynamic light scattering. The critical micelle concentration, micelle size, aggregation number, and micelle shape were determined. The ability of the aggregates as drug carrying nanodevices was also investigated by doping them with indomethacin. UV-Vis measurements showed that the solubility of indomethacine increased significantly. Our findings suggest that the solubility is largely dependent upon the block segment ratios.  相似文献

Per‐2,3‐acetyl‐β‐cyclodextrin with seven primary hydroxyl groups was synthesized by selective modification and used as multifunctional initiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL). Well‐defined β‐cyclodextrin‐centered seven‐arm star poly(ε‐caprolactone)s (CDSPCLs) with narrow molecular weight distributions (≤1.15) have been successfully prepared in the presence of Sn(Oct)2 at 120 °C. The molecular weight of CDSPCLs was characterized by end group 1H NMR analyses and size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC), which could be well controlled by the molar ratio of the monomer to the initiator. Furthermore, amphiphilic seven‐arm star poly(ε‐caprolactone‐b‐ethylene glycol)s (CDSPCL‐b‐PEGs) were synthesized by the coupling reaction of CDSPCLs with carboxyl‐terminated mPEGs. 1H NMR and SEC analyses confirmed the expected star block structures. Differential scanning calorimetry analyses suggested that the melting temperature (Tm), the crystallization temperature (Tc), and the crystallinity degree (Xc) of CDSPCLs all increased with the increasing of the molecular weight, and were lower than that of the linear poly(ε‐caprolactone). As for CDSPCL‐b‐PEGs, the Tc and Tm of the PCL blocks were significantly influenced by the PEG segments in the copolymers. Moreover, these amphiphilic star block copolymers could self‐assemble into spherical micelles with the particle size ranging from 10 to 40 nm. Their micellization behaviors were characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The anionic polymerization of 2‐vinylnaphthalene (2VN) has been studied in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at ?78 °C and in toluene at 40 °C. 2VN polymerization in THF, toluene, or toluene/THF (99:1 v/v) initiated by sec‐butyllithium (sBuLi) indicates living characteristics, affording polymers with predefined molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Block copolymers of 2VN with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) have been synthesized successfully by sequential monomer addition in THF at ?78 °C initiated by an adduct of sBuLi–LiCl. The crossover propagation from poly(2‐vinylnaphthyllithium) (P2VN) macroanions to MMA and tBA appears to be living, the molecular weight and composition can be predicted, and the molecular weight distribution of the resulting block copolymer is narrow (weight‐average molecular/number‐average molecular weight < 1.3). Block copolymers with different chain lengths for the P2VN segment can easily be prepared by variations in the monomer ratios. The block copolymerization of 2VN with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane also results in a block copolymer of P2VN and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) contaminated with a significant amount of homo‐PDMS. Poly(2VN‐b‐nBA) (where nBA is n‐butyl acrylate) has also been prepared by the transesterification reaction of the poly(2VN‐b‐tBA) block copolymer. Size exclusion chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and 1H NMR measurements indicate that the resulting polymers have the required architecture. The corresponding amphiphilic block copolymer of poly(2VN‐b‐AA) (where AA is acrylic acid) has been synthesized by acidic hydrolysis of the ester group of tert‐butyl from the poly(2VN‐b‐tBA) copolymer. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
