The geometrical and electronic structures of the binary radical complexes of 2-methoxycarbonyl propyl radical with boron trichloride and with boron trifluoride were determined by using an ab initio molecular orbital method. The 2-methoxycarbonyl propyl radical complex was a model of the growing radical end in the copolymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of boron halides. The most stable structure of the binary radical complex composed of 2-methoxycarbonyl propyl radical with boron trichloride was a twisted form in which the dihedral angle between the vinyl group and the ester group was 32°, while that of the binary radical complex composed of methyl methacrylate radical with boron trifluoride was a planar form as the free radical. The frontier orbital energy of 2-methoxycarbonyl propyl radical was lowered by 0.06 au by the coordination of boron trichloride, while that was lowered only by 0.02 au by the coordination of boron trifluoride. The polymerization mechanism was elucidated on the basis of these predictions. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The stereo and the electronic structures of methyl methacrylate and the binary molecular complex composed of methyl methacrylate and boron trichloride are determined by quantum chemical calculations based on ab initio molecular orbital methods with the STO-3G basis set. The Stable structures of methyl methacrylate in the free state are a transoid from and a cisoid form. The transoid form is slightly (0.5 kcal/mol) more stable than the cisoid form. The total energy change accompanying binary molecular complex formation is calculated to be ?43 kcal/mol. The most stable structure of the binary molecular complex composed of methyl methacrylate and boron trichloride is a twisted form in which the dihedral angle between the vinyl group and the ester group is 19.7°. A large amount of electron transfer from methyl methacrylate to boron trichloride is calculated to occur on binary molecular complex formation. Mulliken's population analysis shows the electron transfer to be the origin of the twist of the binary molecular complex. The energy level of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital is substantially lowered by the coordination of boron trichloride.  相似文献

Alternating copolymerizations of methyl methacrylate with styrene in the presence of boron trichloride at 0°C in 1,2-dichloroethane were carried out by using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. Conversion increased proportionally with polymerization time, whereas the degree of polymerization was constant irrespective of time. The rate depended linearly on the square root of the concentration of benzoyl peroxide. The equilibrium constants for the formation of the ternary molecular complex composed of methyl methacrylate, styrene, and boron trichloride in 1,2-dichloroethane at ?20, ?10, and +4°C were determined by 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The concentrations of the ternary molecular complex in the polymerization mixtures were evaluated from the equilibrium constant of the formation. The rate of the alternating copolymerization was proportional to the first order of the concentration of the ternary molecular complex. The distribution of methyl methacrylate-centered triads in the alternating copolymer was different from that of styrene-centered triads. These results can be explained by a mechanism involving the homopolymerization of a ternary molecular complex.  相似文献

The structure, the interaction energy, and the vibrational spectrum of the electron donor–acceptor complex formed between boron trifluoride, as a Lewis acid, and formaldehyde, as a Lewis base, have been determined by means of ab initio calculations at the second‐order level of Møller–Plesset perturbation theory, using a triple‐zeta basis set with polarization and diffuse functions on all atoms. The object was to examine the differences in the properties of the complexes formed between boron trifluoride and an oxygen base containing oxygen in the sp2 hybrid state with those of some sp3 oxygen bases studied earlier. The investigation has then been extended to include the related bases thioformaldehyde and methanimine, to assess the effect of substituting the oxygen atom by a sulphur atom or an imino group. A further range of formaldehyde analogs, containing one and two methyl groups, one and two fluorine atoms, and one methyl group and one fluorine atom, has also been included. The preferred structure of each complex has been identified. The computed data have been compared, and the complex properties correlated with some relevant physical properties of the bases. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2012  相似文献

Triad cotacticities of alternating copolymers of methyl methacrylate with styrene prepared in the presence of zinc chloride, ethylaluminium sesquichloride, and ethylboron dichloride are investigated from the mechanistic point of view by means of 1H- and 13C-NMR. The cotacticities from 1H-NMR spectra are obtained accurately by using α-d-styrene in the place of styrene and by measuring the spectra on the copolymer in o-dichlorobenzene at 170°C. The relative intensities of three peaks of the splitting signal for the methoxy protons in the nonalternating copolymers obtained by the use of benzoyl peroxide in the absence of metal halides agree well with the cotacticity distribution calculated theoretically by the Lewis-Mayo mechanism with the stereoregulation following Bernoullian statistics. The splitting signals in the 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra of the alternating copolymers prepared in the presence of metal halides cannot be explained by the same mechanism. The relative intensities of three peaks of the splitting signals for the methoxy protons and for the carbonyl carbon in the methyl methacrylate unit (the contents of cotactic triads centered by the methyl methacrylate unit) are not equal to those for the aromatic C1 carbon in the styrene unit (the contents of cotactic triads centered by styrene unit). The value of f2Y - 4fxfz is not equal to zero, where fx, fy, and fz are the cosyndiotactic, coheterotactic, and coisotactic triad contents, respectively, in the alternating copolymer. Copolymers obtained in the presence of zinc chloride are not exactly equimolar alternating but always contain a methyl methacrylate unit in excess, and the relative intensities of the three peaks for the aromatic C1 carbon change with the copolymer composition. These results are explained by a proposed mechanism: the alternating copolymerization proceeds through the homopolymerization of a ternary molecular complex composed of a metal halide, methyl methacrylate, and styrene, accompanied with the stereoregulation following first-order Markovian statistics; the increase of methyl methacrylate content in the copolymer prepared in the presence of zinc chloride is caused by the participation of the binary molecular complex composed of a metal halide and methyl methacrylate in addition to the ternary molecular complex.  相似文献

The equilibrium constants for the complex formation between stannic chloride and methyl methacrylate were determined in n-hexane–toluene solution at 0, ?20, and ?30°C by using the absorption band at 350 nm. Continuous variation plots at ?20°C in n-hexane based on the 1H-chemical shifts definitely show a 1:1 interaction between the coordinated methyl methacrylate and styrene or toluene. The magnitudes of the shifts for the four groups of protons in methyl methacrylate are found to be in a specific ratio in common with the 1:2 complex–styrene or -toluene system. The equilibrium constants for the ternary molecular complex formation between the 1:2 complex and styrene or toluene were determined in n-hexane in the temperature range ?50 to +20°C by use of the chemical shifts. The concentrations of the complex species in the alternating copolymerization solutions were estimated by use of the equilibrium constants. There is a linear relationship between the enthalpy and the entropy changes for the ternary molecular complex formation, which is governed by the enthalpy factor. The specificity of the interactions indicates a specific time-averaged orientation of benzene ring to the coordinated methyl methacrylate. The effects of the coordination of methyl methacrylate to stannic chloride were discussed on the basis of results of 13C-NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

Triethyl oxonium fluoroborate either preformed or preparedin situ by the reaction of boron trifluoride etherate with epichlorohydrin does not initiate the homo or copolymerization of vinyl monomers. Small conversions to copolymers by use of these initiators with low methyl methacrylate incorporation is ascribed to conventional vinyl copolymerizations, initiated by free boron trifluoride and/or protonic impurities in the system.  相似文献

The influence of stereoregular poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as a polymer matrix on the initial rate of radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) has been measured between ?11 and +60°C using a dilatometric technique. Under proper conditions an increase in the relative initial rate of template polymerization with respect to a blank polymerization was observed. Viscometric studies showed that the observed effect could be related to the extent of complex formation between the polymer matrix and the growing chain radical. The initial rate was dependent on tacticity and molecular weight of the matrix polymer, solvent type and polymerization temperature. The accelerating effect was most pronounced (a fivefold increase in rate) at the lowest polymerization temperature with the highest molecular weight isotactic PMMA as a matrix in a solvent like dimethylformamide (DMF), which is known to be a good medium for complex formation between isotactic and syndiotactic PMMA. The acceleration of the polymerization below 25°C appeared to be accompanied by a large decrease in the overall energy and entropy of activation. It is suggested that the observed template effects are mainly due to the stereoselection in the propagation step (lower activation entropy Δ Sp?) and the hindrance of segmental diffusion in the termination step (higher activation energy Δ Et?) of complexed growing chain radicals.  相似文献

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) copolymerize in the presence of zinc chloride at 3°C under photoirradiation. The contents of methyl methacrylate in the copolymers obtained at a [ZnCl2]/[MMA] molar ratio of 0.4 are systematically larger than 53 mole %, which is the limiting value at a small feed ratio of methyl methacrylate. The resulting copolymers are confirmed as the sole products and not the mixtures by thin layer chromatography. The effect of dilution of the monomer feed mixture with toluene on copolymer composition suggests that it depends chiefly on the feed concentration of styrene and hardly at all on monomer feed ratios. Copolymerizations are also conducted in the presence of stannic chloride at ?17°C under photoirradiation and in the presence of ethylaluminium sesquichloride at 0°C with spontaneous initiation. The contents of methyl methacrylate in both copolymers obtained at feed ratios lower than 60 mole % almost correspond to the 1:1 alternating copolymer and increase systematically with higher feed ratios. The systematic deviations of copolymer composition obtained in the presence of metal halides are reasonably interpreted by the participation of the binary molecular complex composed of metal halide and methyl methacrylate in the polymerization of the ternary molecular complex composed of metal halide, methyl methacrylate, and styrene.  相似文献

The polymerization of the complex of methyl methacrylate with stannic chloride, aluminum trichloride, or boron trifluoride was carried out in toluene solution at several temperatures in the range of 60° to ?78°C by initiation of α,α′-azobisisobutyronicrile or by irradiation with ultraviolet rays. The tacticities of the resulting polymers were determined by NMR spectroscopy. Both the 1:1 and the 2:1 methyl methacrylate–SnCl4 complexes gave polymers with similar tacticities at the polymerization temperatures above ?60°C. With decreasing temperature below ?60°C, the isotacticity was more favored for the 2:1 complex, whereas the tacticities did not change for the 1:1 complex. On the ESR spectroscopy of the polymerization solution under the irradiation of ultraviolet rays at ?120°C, the 1:1 SnCl4 complex gave a quintet, while the 2:1 SnCl4 complex gave both a quintet and a sextet. The sextet became weaker with increasing temperature and disappeared at ?60°C. This behavior of the sextet corresponds to the change of the tacticities of polymer for the 2:1 SnCl4 complex. An intra–intercomplex addition was suggested for the polymerization of the 2:1 complex, which took a cis-configuration on the basis of its infrared spectra. The sextet can be ascribed to the radical formed by the intracomplex addition reaction, while the quintet can correspond to that formed by the intercomplex addition reaction. The proportion of the intracomplex reaction was estimated to be about 0.25 at ?75°C, and the calculated value of the probability of isotactic diad addition of the intracomplex reaction was found to be almost unity.  相似文献

Large differences have been found between the mass spectra of cis- and trans-1-carbomethoxy-2-trimethylsilylcyclopropane. To help in explaining these differences, quantum chemical calculations were performed by the MNDO method on the neutral molecules, on the vertical and adiabatic molecular ions and also the [M – methyl]+ ions. To evaluate the results, heats of formation, bond orders, molecular geometry, spin and charge densities and orbital coefficients were used. These indicate the formation of a very strong bonding interaction between silicon and oxygen in the molecular ion of the cis but not the trans isomer, leading to spontaneous methyl loss and a stabilization energy of ~ 2.6 eV.  相似文献

By the use of various boron compounds methyl methacrylate and styrene were copolymerized under photoirradiations at ?20°C. The alternately regulating activities of the boron compounds in the copolymerizations were in the following order: boron trichloride > ethylboron dichloride > boron trifluoride > diethylboron chloride ? triethylboron (?0). Boron trichloride and ethylboron dichloride exhibited such high regulating activities that their presence in 1 mol% in the charged methyl methacrylate was sufficient to complete equimolar alternating copolymerization. The alternating copolymerization proceeded in the steady state. The copolymerization rates decreased in the following order: boron trichloride ? ethylboron dichloride > diethylboron chloride ? triethylboron (?0). The cotacticities of methyl methacrylate-centered triads in the resulting copolymers were identical to those prepared with boron trichloride, ethylboron dichloride, and diethylboron chloride. The mechanism of the alternating copolymerization is discussed.  相似文献

Fluorescence polarization and quenching measurements were used to examine intramolecular energy migration for poly(N‐vinyl carbazole) and copolymers of N‐vinyl carbazole with methyl methacrylate. Quenching measurements of the carbazole fluorescence by CCl4 were performed in dilute solution in toluene, and fluorescence anisotropy, r, was measured for the chains dispersed in a solid matrix of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The results suggested that the chains with a high carbazole content, that is, a high content of excimer trapping sites, do not show the highest values of the singlet energy‐migration rate. Isotropies, r?1, of the samples in vitrified PMMA corroborated such conclusions. Molecular dynamics simulations on isotactic and syndiotactic trichromophoric copolymer fragments were used to obtain parameters related to the energy‐transfer process as a function of the methyl methacrylate content. The parameters from the simulations supported the interpretation of the experiments. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 41: 1615–1626, 2003  相似文献

Copolymerization of binary mixtures of alkyl (meth)acrylates has been initiated in toluene by a mixed complex of lithium silanolate  (s-BuMe2SiOLi) and s-BuLi (molar ratio > 21) formed in situ by reaction of s-BuLi with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3). Fully acrylate and methacrylate copolymers, i.e., poly(methyl acrylate-co-n-butyl acrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-ethyl methacrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate), poly(isobornyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate), poly(isobornyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate) of a rather narrow molecular weight distribution have been synthesized. However, copolymerization of alkyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate pairs has completely failed, leading to the selective formation of homopoly(acrylate). As result of the isotactic stereoregulation of the alkyl methacrylate polymerization by the s-BuLi/s-BuMe2SiOLi initiator, highly isotactic random and block copolymers of (alkyl) methacrylates have been prepared and their thermal behavior analyzed. The structure of isotactic poly(ethyl methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) copolymers has been analyzed in more detail by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Methods of preparing prepolymers with M = (2–5) × 104 via the free-radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of tri-n-butyl boron and 1,4-naphthoquinone at 30–45°C are developed. 1H NMR spectroscopy measurements show that, in the prepolymer, the ratio between the enchained aromatic structures and the monomer units is 3: 1000. The activation energy for the postpolymerization of MMA initiated by the prepolymer is found to be 39.3 kJ/mol, and the molecular mass of the prepolymer is (0.8–1.2) × 106. The effect of small amounts of acrylates and phosphonium salts on the polymerization of methyl methacrylate and the molecular mass of the polymers is investigated. It is demonstrated that, when polymerization is conducted in the presence of ionic liquids at concentrations commensurable with the concentration of aromatic fragments enchained into the prepolymer, the rate of the process decreases.  相似文献

The polymerization of vinyl monomers initiated by binary initiator systems composed of a copper–amine complex type resin and organic halides has been studied. These binary systems initiated the polymerization of various vinyl monomers. A kinetic study of the polymerization of methyl methacrylate initiated by the copper–amine complex resin–CCl4 system was carried out, and it was found that the polymerization proceeds by way of a radical mechanism. This fact was also supported by the copolymerization of methyl methacrylate with styrene. The overall activation energy of the polymerization of methyl methacrylate was estimated as 8.4 kcal/mole. The activity of the initiator systems was greatly dependent upon the dissociation energy of carbon–halogen bonds in the organic halides. A possible initiation mechanism with the binary systems is proposed and discussed.  相似文献

The organometallic monomers styrenetricarbonylchromium and p‐methylstyrenetricarbonylchromium were copolymerized in ethyl acetate solutions with methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate using azobisisobutyronitrile at 50 °C and a binary system including di‐tert‐butylperoxytriphenylantimony at 30 °C as the free‐radical initiators. Comonomers are proposed to form a molecular complex based on the results of ultraviolet and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. A kinetic study shows that chromium‐containing monomers at high concentrations in the mixture reduce the rate of copolymerization. The addition of styrenetricarbonylchromium to butyl acrylate significantly slows down the autoacceleration. The reactivity ratios of the comonomer pairs, namely, styrenetricarbonylchromium–methyl methacrylate, styrenetricarbonylchromium–butyl acrylate and p‐methylstyrenetricarbonylchromium–methyl methacrylate, were determined using the method of Kelen–Tudos for low conversion polymerizations.Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The alternating copolymerization of methyl methacrylate with styrene in the presence of stannic chloride at ?50°C in toluene was kinetically investigated both under photoirradiation and with the tri-n-butylboron-benzoyl peroxide initiator. The concentrations of the binary and ternary molecular complexes in the copolymerization solution were estimated by use of the equilibrium constants. The rates are found to be proportional to the 1.5th and 1.0th orders of the concentration of the ternary molecular complex composed of stannic chloride, methyl methacrylate, and styrene, under photoirradiation and with initiator, respectively. The conversion increases proportionally with the polymerization time, while the degree of polymerization is constant irrespective of the time. The rates depend linearly upon the square root of the intensity of the incident light and upon the concentration of tri-n-butylboron, respectively. The alternating copolymerization is confirmed experimentally to precede the homopolymerization of the monomer charged in large excess both under photoirradiation and with initiator. The kinetic results indicate consistently that the alternating copolymerization proceeds through the homopolymerization of the ternary molecular complex in the steady state with a bimolecular termination. Both the conventional radical mechanism and the double complex mechanism are unsuitable for the present alternating copolymerization.  相似文献

Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence techniques were used to study the thermodynamics of binding of a neutral polarity-sensitive guest, the methyl 2-naphthalenecarboxylate (2MN), with three cucurbiturils (CBn; n = 6, 7 and 8) in water. Association constants (K) were obtained from nonlinear regression analysis of the fluorescence intensity against [CB] in the 5–45°C range. 2MN complexed with CB7 exhibited a 1:1 stoichiometry (K ≈ 103 M? 1 at 25°C); however, it hardly did with CB6 (K < 10 M? 1) and it did not with the larger CB8 macrocyclic ring. The (1:1) 2MN:CB7 complexation process was accompanied by a small unfavourable enthalpy change and was, therefore, entropically governed. Molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics calculations in the presence of water were also used to study the geometry of the complexes formed and the driving forces responsible for their formation. The results were compared with those previously obtained for the complexation of the same guest, 2MN, with natural α-, β- and γ-cyclodextrins.  相似文献

Free radical polymerizations of methyl methacrylate and methacrylamide in DMF solution were found to be catalytically inhibited by the addition of the boron fluoride derivative of cobaloxime to the system. The nature of this inhibition is examined and equations which describe the kinetics of these catalytically inhibited polymerizations are developed. Using these equations estimates of the inhibition constants (Cz) of 7.23 × 102 and 2.27 × 102 were estimated for methacrylamide and methyl methacrylate, respectively.  相似文献
