A class of operator equilibrium problems

In this paper, we consider a class of operator equilibrium problems (OEP for short) with operator solutions and derive a Minty type lemma for this class of problems. Further, using this lemma and KKM theorem, we establish some existence theorems for OEP. The theorems presented in this paper generalize, improve and unify many known results.     

Estimates of the dilatation function of Beurling-Ahlfors extension

In this paper we estimate the dilatation function of the Beurling-Ahlfors extension in the most general case. By introducing ?h,m-function, we obtain an inequality which is sharp up to a constant.     

Growth conditions, compact perturbations and operator subdecomposability, with applications to generalized Cesàro operators

We adapt recent results of Albrecht and Ricker to obtain conditions under which growth constraints on the left resolvent of a Banach space operator are preserved under suitable perturbations. As an application, we establish Bishop's property (β) for certain generalized Cesàro operators on the classical Hardy spaces Hp, 1<p<∞. Our methods also apply to unilateral weighted shifts whose weight sequence converges sufficiently rapidly as well as to perturbations of restrictions of a class of generalized scalar operators.     

Global attractor for a nonlinear viscoelastic model

In this paper we establish the existence of global attractors of a semiflow and a semigroup for a nonlinear 1-d viscoelasticity in two frameworks. We exploit the properties of the analytic semigroup to show the compactness for the semiflow and semigroup generated by the weak global solutions.     

Moore bound for mixed networks

Mixed graphs contain both undirected as well as directed links between vertices and therefore are an interesting model for interconnection communication networks. In this paper, we establish the Moore bound for mixed graphs, which generalizes both the directed and the undirected Moore bound.     

Norm inequalities for sums of two basic elementary operators

We use certain norm inequalities for 2×2 operator matrices to establish norm inequalities for sums of two basic elementary operators on a Hilbert space. Further, we give necessary and sufficient conditions under which the norm of the above sum of elementary operators attains its optimal value. Applications of the inequalities obtained are also considered.     

Divergence points of self-similar measures satisfying the OSC

Recently, Barreira and Schmeling (2000) [1] and Chen and Xiong (1999) [2] have shown, that for self-similar measures satisfying the SSC the set of divergence points typically has the same Hausdorff dimension as the support K. It is natural to ask whether we obtain a similar result for self-similar measures satisfying the OSC. However, with only the OSC satisfied, we cannot do most of the work on a symbolic space and then transfer the results to the subsets of Rd, which makes things more difficult. In this paper, by the box-counting principle we show that the set of divergence points has still the same Hausdorff dimension as the support K for self-similar measures satisfying the OSC.     

Fourier multipliers and periodic solutions of delay equations in Banach spaces

In this paper we characterize the existence and uniqueness of periodic solutions of inhomogeneous abstract delay equations and establish maximal regularity results for strong solutions. The conditions are obtained in terms of R-boundedness of linear operators determined by the equations and Lp- Fourier multipliers. Periodic mild solutions are also studied and characterized.     

Variations on Weyl's theorem

In this note we study the property (w), a variant of Weyl's theorem introduced by Rako?evi?, by means of the localized single-valued extension property (SVEP). We establish for a bounded linear operator defined on a Banach space several sufficient and necessary conditions for which property (w) holds. We also relate this property with Weyl's theorem and with another variant of it, a-Weyl's theorem. We show that Weyl's theorem, a-Weyl's theorem and property (w) for T (respectively T^*) coincide whenever T^* (respectively T) satisfies SVEP. As a consequence of these results, we obtain that several classes of commonly considered operators have property (w).     

Common fixed point theorem for hybrid generalized multi-valued contraction mappings

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a hybrid generalized multi-valued contraction mapping and establish the common fixed point theorem for this mapping. Our results generalize, unify, extend and complement several common fixed point theorems of many authors in the literature.     

Hardy spaces for the strip

In this paper we shall study Hardy spaces of analytic functions in a strip S. Our main result is on one hand an intrinsic characterization of the spaces and on the second that polynomials are dense. We also present an orthogonal (in H²(S)) basis of polynomials.     

Stochastic functional differential equations with infinite delay

The stability and boundedness of the solution for stochastic functional differential equation with finite delay have been studied by several authors, but there is almost no work on the stability of the solutions for stochastic functional differential equations with infinite delay. The main aim of this paper is to close this gap. We establish criteria of pth moment ψγ(t)-bounded for neutral stochastic functional differential equations with infinite delay and exponentially stable criteria for stochastic functional differential equations with infinite delay, and we also illustrate the result with an example.     

Generalized Hyers-Ulam stability for general additive functional equations in quasi-β-normed spaces

In 1940 S.M. Ulam proposed the famous Ulam stability problem. In 1941 D.H. Hyers solved the well-known Ulam stability problem for additive mappings subject to the Hyers condition on approximately additive mappings. The first author of this paper investigated the Hyers-Ulam stability of Cauchy and Jensen type additive mappings. In this paper we generalize results obtained for Jensen type mappings and establish new theorems about the Hyers-Ulam stability for general additive functional equations in quasi-β-normed spaces.     

Fixed point theorems in fuzzy metric spaces

In the present work, we establish several fixed point theorems for a new class of self-maps in M-complete fuzzy metric spaces and compact fuzzy metric spaces, respectively.     

A note on ball-covering property of Banach spaces

By a ball-covering B of a Banach space X, we mean that B is a collection of open (or closed) balls off the origin whose union contains the unit sphere SX of X; and X is said to have the ball-covering property (BCP) provided it admits a ball-covering by countably many balls. In this note we give a natural example showing that the ball-covering property of a Banach space is not inherited by its subspaces; and we present a sharp quantitative version of the recent Fonf and Zanco renorming result saying that if the dual X^∗ of X is w^∗ separable, then for every ε>0 there exist a (1+ε)-equivalent norm on X, and an R>0 such that in this new norm SX admits a ball-covering by countably many balls of radius R. Namely, we show that R=R(ε) can be taken arbitrarily close to (1+ε)/ε, and that for X=?₁[0,1] the corresponding R cannot be equal to 1/ε. This gives the sharp order of magnitude for R(ε) as ε→0.     

Statistical convergence and ideal convergence for sequences of functions

Let I⊂P(N) stand for an ideal containing finite sets. We discuss various kinds of statistical convergence and I-convergence for sequences of functions with values in R or in a metric space. For real valued measurable functions defined on a measure space (X,M,μ), we obtain a statistical version of the Egorov theorem (when μ(X)<∞). We show that, in its assertion, equi-statistical convergence on a big set cannot be replaced by uniform statistical convergence. Also, we consider statistical convergence in measure and I-convergence in measure, with some consequences of the Riesz theorem. We prove that outer and inner statistical convergences in measure (for sequences of measurable functions) are equivalent if the measure is finite.     

Strong convergence of approximate solutions for nonlinear hyperbolic equation without convexity

Schonbek [M.E. Schonbek, Convergence of solutions to nonlinear dispersive equations, Comm. Partial Differential Equations 7 (1982) 959-1000] obtained the strong convergence of uniform bounded approximate solutions to hyperbolic scalar equation under the assumption that the flux function is strictly convex. While in this paper, by constructing four families of Lax entropies, we succeed in dealing with the non-convexity with the aid of the well-known Bernstein-Weierstrass theorem, and obtaining the strong convergence of uniform L^∞ or bounded viscosity solutions for scalar conservation law without convexity.     

Local regularity theorems for the stationary thermistor problem with oscillating degeneracy

In this paper we present some regularity results for solutions to the system −Δu=σ(u)²|∇φ|, div(σ(u)∇φ)=0 in the case where σ(u) is allowed to oscillate between 0 and a positive number as u→∞. In particular, we show that u is locally bounded if σ(u) is bounded below by a suitable exponential function.

Characterization of equality in a generalized Dunkl-Williams inequality

We establish a generalization of the Dunkl-Williams inequality and its inverse in the framework of Hilbert C^?-modules and characterize the equality case. As applications, we get some new results and some known results due to J.E. Pe?ari? and R. Raji? [The Dunkl-Williams equality in pre-Hilbert C^?-modules, Linear Algebra Appl. 425 (1) (2007) 16-25].
