Higher order duality in multiobjective fractional programming with support functions

In this paper a new class of higher order (F,ρ,σ)-type I functions for a multiobjective programming problem is introduced, which subsumes several known studied classes. Higher order Mond-Weir and Schaible type dual programs are formulated for a nondifferentiable multiobjective fractional programming problem where the objective functions and the constraints contain support functions of compact convex sets in Rn. Weak and strong duality results are studied in both the cases assuming the involved functions to be higher order (F,ρ,σ)-type I. A number of previously studied problems appear as special cases.     

Strong convergence of approximate solutions for nonlinear hyperbolic equation without convexity

Schonbek [M.E. Schonbek, Convergence of solutions to nonlinear dispersive equations, Comm. Partial Differential Equations 7 (1982) 959-1000] obtained the strong convergence of uniform bounded approximate solutions to hyperbolic scalar equation under the assumption that the flux function is strictly convex. While in this paper, by constructing four families of Lax entropies, we succeed in dealing with the non-convexity with the aid of the well-known Bernstein-Weierstrass theorem, and obtaining the strong convergence of uniform L^∞ or bounded viscosity solutions for scalar conservation law without convexity.     

Analysis on Besov spaces II: Embedding and duality theorems

This paper gives several results on Besov spaces of holomorphic functions on a very large class of domains D in Cn. They include duality theorem, embedding theorem, best growth estimate, and boundedness of multiplication operators on Besov spaces.     

Gale duality and Koszul duality

Given a hyperplane arrangement in an affine space equipped with a linear functional, we define two finite-dimensional, noncommutative algebras, both of which are motivated by the geometry of hypertoric varieties. We show that these algebras are Koszul dual to each other, and that the roles of the two algebras are reversed by Gale duality. We also study the centers and representation categories of our algebras, which are in many ways analogous to integral blocks of category O.     

Comments on abstract convexity structures on topological spaces

All results in “Some properties of abstract convexity structures on topological spaces” by S.-w. Xiang and H. Yang [S.-w. Xiang, H. Yang, Some properties of abstract convexity structures on topological spaces, Nonlinear Analysis 67 (2007) 803-808] and “A further characteristic of abstract convexity structures on topological spaces” by S.-w. Xiang and S. Xia [S.-w. Xiang, S. Xia, A further characteristic of abstract convexity structures on topological spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 335 (2007) 716-723] are shown to be consequences of known ones or can be stated in more general forms.     

Lushness, numerical index one and duality

We construct an example of a Banach space which is not lush, but whose dual space is lush. This example shows that lushness is not equivalent to numerical index one. A characterization of lushness for some quotient spaces of L₁(μ) spaces and new results on C-rich subspaces of (scalar- or vector-valued) C(K) spaces are also presented.     

Approximate duality for vector quasi-equilibrium problems and applications

In this paper, we introduce new versions of ?-dual problems of a vector quasi-equilibrium problem with set-valued maps, and we give an ?-duality result between approximate solutions of the primal and dual problems. As the first application of the main result, we obtain an ?-duality for a vector quasi-equilibrium problem whose ?-solutions are understood in the sense of proper efficiency. The second application is devoted to an?-duality for a vector optimization problem with set-valued maps.     

Strength of convergence in the orbit space of a groupoid

Let G be a second-countable locally-compact Hausdorff groupoid with a Haar system, and let {xn} be a sequence in the unit space G(0) of G. We show that the notions of strength of convergence of {xn} in the orbit space G(0)/G and measure-theoretic accumulation along the orbits are equivalent ways of realising multiplicity numbers associated to a sequence of induced representation of the groupoid C^?-algebra.

Growth conditions, compact perturbations and operator subdecomposability, with applications to generalized Cesàro operators

We adapt recent results of Albrecht and Ricker to obtain conditions under which growth constraints on the left resolvent of a Banach space operator are preserved under suitable perturbations. As an application, we establish Bishop's property (β) for certain generalized Cesàro operators on the classical Hardy spaces Hp, 1<p<∞. Our methods also apply to unilateral weighted shifts whose weight sequence converges sufficiently rapidly as well as to perturbations of restrictions of a class of generalized scalar operators.     

Operator identities involving the bivariate Rogers-Szegö polynomials and their applications to the multiple q-series identities

In this paper, we first give several operator identities involving the bivariate Rogers-Szegö polynomials. By applying the technique of parameter augmentation to the multiple q-binomial theorems given by Milne [S.C. Milne, Balanced summation theorems for U(n) basic hypergeometric series, Adv. Math. 131 (1997) 93-187], we obtain several new multiple q-series identities involving the bivariate Rogers-Szegö polynomials. These include multiple extensions of Mehler's formula and Rogers's formula. Our U(n+1) generalizations are quite natural as they are also a direct and immediate consequence of their (often classical) known one-variable cases and Milne's fundamental theorem for An or U(n+1) basic hypergeometric series in Theorem 1.49 of [S.C. Milne, An elementary proof of the Macdonald identities for , Adv. Math. 57 (1985) 34-70], as rewritten in Lemma 7.3 on p. 163 of [S.C. Milne, Balanced summation theorems for U(n) basic hypergeometric series, Adv. Math. 131 (1997) 93-187] or Corollary 4.4 on pp. 768-769 of [S.C. Milne, M. Schlosser, A new An extension of Ramanujan's summation with applications to multilateral An series, Rocky Mountain J. Math. 32 (2002) 759-792].     

Banach space characterizations of unitaries: A survey

We survey Banach space characterizations of unitary elements of C^∗-algebras, JB^∗-triples, and JB-algebras. In the case of the existence of a pre-dual, appropriate specializations of these characterizations are also reviewed.     

The generalized nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem for linearly degenerate quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws

This work is a continuation of our previous work, in the present paper we study the generalized nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem with small BV data for linearly degenerate quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with nonlinear boundary conditions in a half space . We prove the global existence and uniqueness of piecewise C¹ solution containing only contact discontinuities to a class of the generalized nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem, which can be regarded as a small BV perturbation of the corresponding nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem, for general n×n linearly degenerate quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws; moreover, this solution has a global structure similar to the one of the self-similar solution to the corresponding nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem. Some applications to quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws arising in the string theory and high energy physics are also given.     

Relations on generalized degree sequences

We study degree sequences for simplicial posets and polyhedral complexes, generalizing the well-studied graphical degree sequences. Here we extend the more common generalization of vertex-to-facet degree sequences by considering arbitrary face-to-flag degree sequences. In particular, these may be viewed as natural refinements of the flag f-vector of the poset. We investigate properties and relations of these generalized degree sequences, proving linear relations between flag degree sequences in terms of the composition of rank jumps of the flag. As a corollary, we recover an f-vector inequality on simplicial posets first shown by Stanley.     

Characterization of equality in a generalized Dunkl-Williams inequality

We establish a generalization of the Dunkl-Williams inequality and its inverse in the framework of Hilbert C^?-modules and characterize the equality case. As applications, we get some new results and some known results due to J.E. Pe?ari? and R. Raji? [The Dunkl-Williams equality in pre-Hilbert C^?-modules, Linear Algebra Appl. 425 (1) (2007) 16-25].     

Constructions of generalized Sidon sets

We give explicit constructions of sets S with the property that for each integer k, there are at most g solutions to k=s₁+s₂,s_i∈S; such sets are called Sidon sets if g=2 and generalized Sidon sets if g?3. We extend to generalized Sidon sets the Sidon-set constructions of Singer, Bose, and Ruzsa. We also further optimize Kolountzakis’ idea of interleaving several copies of a Sidon set, extending the improvements of Cilleruelo, Ruzsa and Trujillo, Jia, and Habsieger and Plagne. The resulting constructions yield the largest known generalized Sidon sets in virtually all cases.     

Estimates of the dilatation function of Beurling-Ahlfors extension

In this paper we estimate the dilatation function of the Beurling-Ahlfors extension in the most general case. By introducing ?h,m-function, we obtain an inequality which is sharp up to a constant.     

Global strong solution to the Thirring model in critical space

We obtain a strong solution in charge critical space L²(R) of the Thirring system and Federbusch equations in one space dimension by using solution representation of the models. The uniqueness is obtained for the solution Ψ∈L^∞([0,T];L²(R)∩L⁴(R)). A decay of local charge and asymptotic behavior of the field can be shown directly.     

Spectral conditions for admissibility of evolution equations in Hilbert space

We study properties of solutions of the evolution equation , where B is a closable operator on the space AP(R,H) of almost periodic functions with values in a Hilbert space H such that B commutes with translations. The operator B generates a family of closed operators on H such that (whenever eiλtx∈D(B)). For a closed subset Λ⊂R, we prove that the following properties (i) and (ii) are equivalent: (i) for every function f∈AP(R,H) such that σ(f)⊆Λ, there exists a unique mild solution u∈AP(R,H) of Eq. (∗) such that σ(u)⊆Λ; (ii) is invertible for all λ∈Λ and .     

Common fixed point theorem for hybrid generalized multi-valued contraction mappings

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a hybrid generalized multi-valued contraction mapping and establish the common fixed point theorem for this mapping. Our results generalize, unify, extend and complement several common fixed point theorems of many authors in the literature.
