Influence of heat treatment regime on adhesion and wear resistance of Ni-P electroless coating on AZ91 magnesium alloy is investigated in this work. The pretreated substrate was plated using a bath containing nickel sulphate, sodium hypophosphite and sodium acetate as main constituents. The coated samples were heat treated at 400-450 °C for 1-8 h. Adhesion of coating was estimated from the scratch test with an initial load of 8.80 N. Wear resistance was studied using the pin-on-disc method. It was found that there is no significant dependence of the coating wear resistance on heat treatment regime, as the formation of Al-Ni intermetallic sub-layers that reduce coating adhesion is limited to regions where Al17Mg12 phase is present in the substrate. Moreover, the coating shows good sliding properties due to the formation of oxide glazes in the wear track. 相似文献

Ni-Al2O3 composite coatings were prepared by using sediment co-deposition (SCD) technique and conventional electroplating (CEP) technique from Watt's type electrolyte without any additives. The microstructure, hardness, and wear resistance of resulting composites were investigated. The results show that the incorporation of nano-Al2O3 particles changes the surface morphology of nickel matrix. The preferential orientation is modified from (2 0 0) plane to (1 1 1) plane. The microhardness of Ni-Al2O3 composite coatings in the SCD technique are higher than that of the CEP technique and pure Ni coating and increase with the increasing of the nano-Al2O3 particles concentration in plating solution. The wear rate of the Ni-Al2O3 composite coating fabricated via SCD technique with 10 g/l nano-Al2O3 particles in plating bath is approximately one order of magnitude lower than that of pure Ni coating. Wear resistance for SCD obtained composite coatings is superior to that obtained by the CEP technique. The wear mechanism of pure Ni and nickel nano-Al2O3 composite coatings are adhesive wear and abrasive wear, respectively. 相似文献

142-145The influence of X-ray radiation of different wave lengths on the structure and properties of electrodeposited copper coatings is found. It is determined by the methods of X-ray structure analysis and optical and scanning microscopy that, in the process of electrodeposition, X-ray radiation changes the primary structure of electrolyte and leads to a decrease in the grain size of deposits and an increase in the microhardness and degree of dispersion of mosaic blocks. The radiation effect on the process of electrodeposition is accompanied by an increase in the rate of material deposition on the cathode due to intensification of the diffusion of electrolyte components to the cathode. 相似文献

Nanosized TiO2 particles were prepared by sol-gel method. The TiO2 particles were co-deposited with zinc from a sulphate bath at pH 4.5 using electrodeposition technique. The corrosion behavior of the coatings was assessed by electrochemical polarization, impedance, weight-loss and salt spray tests. Wear resistance and microhardness of the composite coating was measured. The smaller grain size of the composite coatings was observed in the presence of TiO2 and it was confirmed by the images of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. 相似文献

Dispersible SiO2 nanoparticles were co-deposited with electroless Ni-P coating onto AISI-1045 steel substrates in the absence of any surfactants in plating bath. The resulting Ni-P/nano-SiO2 composite coatings were heat-treated for 1 h at 200 °C, 400 °C, and 600 °C, respectively. The hardness and wear resistance of the heat-treated composite coatings were measured. Moreover, the structural changes of the composite coatings before and after heat treatment were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), while their elemental composition and morphology were analyzed using an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results show that co-deposited SiO2 particles contributed to increase the hardness and wear resistance of electroless Ni-P coating, and the composite coating heat-treated at about 400 °C had the maximum hardness and wear resistance. 相似文献

Electrodeposition of amorphous Ni-P coatings onto Nd-Fe-B permanent magnet substrates 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Decorative and protective Ni-P amorphous coatings were electroplated onto NdFeB permanent magnet from an ortho-phosphorous acid contained bath. The influences of the main electroplating technological parameters including current density, bath pH, bath temperature and H3PO3 on the structure and chemical composition of Ni-P coatings were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques in conjunction with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning transmission electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDX). The optimized amorphous Ni-P coated NdFeB can stand for ca. 180 h against neutral 3.0 wt.% NaCl salt spray without any pitting corrosion. Meanwhile, the results also showed that large phosphorous content is the precondition for Ni-P coatings to possess the amorphous structure, but too much high phosphorous content can damage the amorphous structure due to the separation of superfluous P from Ni2P/Ni3P and the resultant formation of multi-phase coatings (such as Ni2P-P). 相似文献

Ni-SiC nanocomposite coatings were produced by electrodeposition from a nickel sulfate bath containing SiC nanoparticles with an average particle size of 30 nm. The characteristics of the coatings were assessed by scanning electron microscopy and microhardness test. The friction and wear performance of Ni-SiC nanocomposite coatings and Ni film were comparatively investigated sliding against Si3N4 ceramic balls under non-lubricated conditions. The results indicated that compared to Ni film, Ni-SiC nanocomposite coating exhibited enhanced microhardness and wear resistance. The effect of SiC nanoparticles on the friction and wear resistance is discussed in detail. 相似文献

With the increase of magnetic storage density, the thickness of the protective diamond like carbon (DLC) film on the surfaces of head and disk is required as thin as possible. In this paper, the structure, mechanical properties and corrosion and oxidation resistance of ultra-thin DLC films are investigated. The ultra-thin DLC films were deposited by using filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) technique. The exact thickness of the ultra-thin DLC film was determined by high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). Raman analysis indicates that the ultra-thin DLC film presents ta-C structure with high sp3 fraction. In the wear test, a diamond tip was used to simulate a single-asperity contact with the film surface and the wear marks were produced on the film surface. The wear depths decrease with film thickness increasing. If the film thickness was 1.4 nm or above, the wear depth was much lower than that of Si substrate. This indicates that the ultra-thin DLC film with thickness of 1.4 nm shows excellent wear resistance. Corrosion tests in water and oxidation tests in air were carried out to investigate the diffusion barrier effect of the ultra-thin DLC films. The results show that the DLC film with thickness of 1.4 nm provides adequate coverage on the substrate and has good corrosion and oxidation resistance. 相似文献

A set of Al/AlN multilayers with various modulation periods were prepared using DC magnetron sputtering method. Low angle X-ray diffraction (LAXRD) was used to analyze the layered structure of multilayers. The phase structure of the films was investigated with grazing angle X-ray diffraction (GAXRD). LAXRD results indicate that well-defined multilayer modulation structures are formed for the relatively larger modulation periods. However, the loss of mutilayered structure is detected in the multilayer with low modulation period. A very wide amorphous peak is observed in multilayer with modulation period of 4 nm. The multilayers show obvious crystallization at larger modulation periods, however, the diffraction peaks are much wider than the Al single layer because of the interruption of the continuous columnar grain growth by alternating deposition processes. Nanoindentation experiments were performed to study the mechanical properties as a function of multilayer modulation period. It is found that the hardness of the multilayers is greater than the hardness calculated from rule of mixtures. With the modulation periods adjusted, the multilayers are even harder than its hard component (AlN). A maximum hardness of 24.9 GPa, about 1.9 times larger than its hard component (AlN) and 3.7 times larger than the hardness calculated from the rule of mixtures, is found at the multilayer with modulation period of 16 nm. The wear test results show that the multilayers possess lower and stable friction coefficient, and superior wear properties. 相似文献

Fully amorphous Ni-P layer electrodeposited onto a Cu plate was subjected to severe plastic deformation using surface mechanical attrition treatment in a high energy SPEX 8000 shaker mill. Two series of experiments using different milling conditions (series I: 20 6.35-mm balls; series II: 100 1.59-mm balls) were carried out to explore the mechanism of the process and to investigate the structure of the developed coatings. The evolution of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Ni-P layer after the deformation process was studied by x-ray diffraction, scanning electronmicroscopy and hardness measurements. We demonstrate that the different mechanical treatments controllably influence the mechanical behavior of the Ni-P metallic glass coating. When the vial of the mill is loaded with larger balls, deformation-induced Ni3P compound particles form in the amorphous matrix resulting in a hard (HV = 17 GPa) but non-uniform coating. In the case of milling with many small balls, the increase in the surface hardness is considerably lower (7 GPa) as a consequence of reduced impact energy. 相似文献

In this research, solvent based polyamide – imide (PAI)/clay nanocomposites were prepared successfully using the solution dispersion technique. With the assistance of the ultrasonic wave, the effect of the ultrasonic wave time on the microstructure of 3 wt% PAI/C20A nanocomposite (NC) was investigated. Then, the best ultrasonic parameters were selected and the effects of the concentration of Cloisite 20A (C20A) (1, 3 and 5 wt% C20A) on the microstructure and mechanical properties (adhesion, hardness, flexibility, wear and impact) of NCs were investigated. The PAI, C20A and nanocomposites (NC)s were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The results showed that the sample with 1 and 3 wt% C20A had better mechanical properties, as compared to the pure PAI and the 5 wt% NC. 相似文献

Evolution of tribological properties of electroless Ni-P and Ni-P-Al2O3 coating on an Al-10Si-0.3Mg casting alloy during heat treatment is investigated in this work. The pre-treated substrate was plated using a bath containing nickel hypophosphite, nickel lactate and lactic acid. For preparation of fiber-reinforced coating Al2O3 Saffil fibers pre-treated in demineralised water were used. The coated samples were heat treated at 400-550 °C/1-8 h. Tribological properties were studied using the pin-on-disc method. It is found that the best coating performance is obtained using optimal heat treatment regime (400 °C/1 h). Annealing at higher temperatures (450 °C and above) leads to the formation of intermetallic compounds that reduce the coating wear resistance. The reason is that the intermetallic phases adversely affect the coating adherence to the substrate. The analysis of wear tracks proves that abrasion is major wear mechanism, however due to the formed intermetallic sub-layers, partial coating delamination may occur during the pin-on-disc test on the samples annealed at 450 °C and above. It was found that fiber reinforcement reduces this scaling and increases wear resistance of coatings as compared to the non-reinforced Ni-P coatings. 相似文献

A new coating system of under layer for hot dip zinc coating was explored as an effective coating for steel especially for application in relatively high aggressive environments. The influence of different barrier layers formed prior to hot dip galvanization was investigated to optimize high performance protective galvanic coatings. The deposition of ZnO and Ni-P inner layers and characteristics of hotdip zinc coatings were explored in this study. The coating morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. The hot dip zinc coatings containing under layer showed substantial improvement in their properties such as good adhesion, and high hardness. In addition, a decrease in the thickness of the coating layer and an enhancement of the corrosion resistance were found. Open circuit potential (OCP) of different galvanized layers in different corrosive media viz. 5% NaCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions at 25 ± 1 °C was measured as a function of time. A nobler OCP was exhibited for samples treated with ZnO and Ni than sample of pure Zn; this indicates a dissolution process followed by passivation due to the surface oxide formation. The high negative OCP can be attributed to the better alloying reaction between Zn and Fe and to the sacrificial nature of the top pure zinc layer. 相似文献

An attempt was made to study the effect of plasma surface activation on the adhesion of UV-curable sol-gel coatings on polycarbonate (PC) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrates. The sol was synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of a UV-curable silane in combination with Zr-n-propoxide. Coatings deposited by dip coating were cured using UV-radiation followed by thermal curing between 80 °C and 130 °C. The effect of plasma surface treatment on the wettability of the polymer surface prior to coating deposition was followed up by measuring the water contact angle. The water contact angle on the surface of as-cleaned substrates was 80° ± 2° and that after plasma treatment was 43° ± 1° and 50° ± 2° for PC and PMMA respectively. Adhesion as well as mechanical properties like scratch resistance and taber abrasion resistance were evaluated for coatings deposited over plasma treated and untreated surfaces. 相似文献

The surface of carbon steel was modified by electrochemical deposition of Ni in a standard Watt's bath using dc and pulse plating electrodeposition. The aim was to compare the microstructure and surface mechanical properties of the deposit obtained by both techniques. Materials characterization was conducted using field emission scanning electron microscope fitted with scanning transmission electron detector, atomic force microscope and X-ray diffractometer. Nanoindentation hardness, elastic modulus, adhesion, coefficients of friction and wear rates were determined for both dc and pulse electrodeposits. Experimental results indicate that pulse electrodeposition produced finer Ni grains compared to dc plating. Size of Ni grains increased with deposition. Both dc and pulse deposition resulted in grain growth in preferred (2 0 0) orientation. However, presence of Ni (1 1 1) grains increased in deposits produced by pulse deposition. Pulse plated Ni exhibited higher hardness, creep and coefficient of friction and lower modulus of elasticity compared to dc plated Ni. 相似文献

High corrosion resistance Cu/Ni-P coatings were electrodeposited on AZ91D magnesium alloy via suitable pretreatments, such as one-step acid pickling-activation, once zinc immersion and environment-friendly electroplated copper as the protective under-layer, which made Ni-P deposit on AZ91D Mg alloy in acid plating baths successfully. The pH value and current density for Ni-P electrodeposition were optimized to obtain high corrosion resistance. With increasing the phosphorous content of the Ni-P coatings, the deposits were found to gradually transform to amorphous structure and the corrosion resistance increased synchronously. The anticorrosion ability of AZ91D Mg alloy was greatly improved by the amorphous Ni-P deposits, which was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The corrosion current density (Icorr) of the coated Mg alloy substrate is about two orders of magnitude less than that of the uncoated. 相似文献

Alternative process to hexavalent chromium, substitute materials and new designs are urgently needed owing to the requirement of “clean” manufacture. This comparative study was conducted to systematically investigate the corrosion resistance and lubricated sliding wear behavior of graded Ni-P alloy deposits produced from a single plating bath by electrodeposition and hard Cr deposits, using potentiodynamic polarization and reciprocating ball-on-disc tribometer. Results showed that Ni-P deposits heat-treated at 400 °C with maximum hardness exhibited more than two orders of magnitude higher corrosion resistance than hard Cr deposits in 10 wt.% HCl solution. The Stribeck curves for the heat-treated Ni-P gradient deposits and hard Cr under lubrication conditions were obtained with accurate control of normal load and sliding speed during the wear process, three main different regimes corresponding to different lubrication mechanism were identified. Heat-treated Ni-P gradient deposits showed relatively poor wear resistance than hard Cr deposits under the lubrication conditions, which may be attributed to superior oil-retaining surface structure and the unique “nodular” effect of hard Cr in wear process. 相似文献

Preparation and wear resistance of pulse electrodeposited Ni-W/Al2O3 composite coatings 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The aim of this work is to obtain the electroplating parameters for preparation of Ni-W/Al2O3 composite coating with high tungsten content, high micro-hardness and excellent wear resistance by pulse plating procedure. Our results showed that the duty cycle is a dominant parameter for the tungsten content in the coating and the tungsten content increases significantly with increasing duty cycle. The further analysis showed the great influence of tungsten content on micro-hardness of the coating. A maximum micro-hardness of about 859 Hv was obtained in pulse electrodeposited Ni-W/Al2O3 composite with tungsten content of 40 wt.% at a peak current density of 20 A/dm2, a duty cycle of 80%, a pulse frequency of 1000 Hz and a particle loading of 10 g/L alumina in the plating bath. Although the hardness of Ni-W/Al2O3 composite coating was only slightly affected by the alumina content of the deposits prepared in present investigation, the alumina content effect on the tribological characteristic of Ni-W/Al2O3 composite coatings is significant. The friction coefficient was lowered to 0.25 and the wear loss was reduced to 1.05 mg by setting the control factors according to the values mentioned above for obtaining the coating with the highest micro-hardness. 相似文献

Laser-based additive manufacturing has attracted much attention as a promising 3D printing method for metallic components in recent years. However, surface roughness of additive manufactured components has been considered as a challenge to achieve high performance. In this work, we demonstrate the capability of fiber laser in polishing rough surface of additive manufactured Ti-based alloys as Ti-6Al-4V and TC11. Both as-received surface and laser-polished surfaces as well as cross-section subsurfaces were analyzed carefully by White-Light Interference, Confocal Microscope, Focus Ion Beam, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectrometer, and X-ray Diffraction. Results revealed that as-received Ti-based alloys with surface roughness more than 5 µm could be reduce to less than 1 µm through laser polishing process. Moreover, microstructure, microhardness and wear resistance of laser-polished zone was investigated in order to examine the thermal effect of laser polishing processing on the substrate of additive manufactured Ti alloys. This proof-of-concept process has the potential to effectively improve the surface roughness of additive manufactured metallic alloy by local polishing method without damage to the substrate. 相似文献
