Modeling strategies aimed at thermo-mechanical coupled problems has been developed for a wide range of engineering applications. Staggered-type coupling procedures have been largely used in materials processing operations, especially in commercial codes, owing to their simplicity and flexibility. The present work shows that, in thermo-plastic problems, the classical implementation of the most common coupling procedure may present accuracy issues and time-stepping dependency. Numerical experiments indicate that an iterative coupling scheme constitutes a viable and simple approach to this class of problems.  相似文献

Paper and paperboard generally exhibit anisotropic and non-linear mechanical material behaviour. In this work, the development of an orthotropic elastic–plastic constitutive model, suitable for modelling of the material behaviour of paper is presented. The anisotropic material behaviour is introduced into the model by orthotropic elasticity and an isotropic plasticity equivalent transformation tensor. A parabolic stress–strain relation is adopted to describe the hardening of the material. The experimental and numerical procedures for evaluation of the required material parameters for the model are described. Uniaxial tensile testing in three different inplane material directions provides the calibration of the material parameters under plane stress conditions. The numerical implementation of the material model is presented and the model is shown to perform well in agreement with experimentally observed mechanical behaviour of paper.  相似文献

We develop a unified framework of balance laws and thermodynamically consistent constitutive equations which couple Cahn–Hilliard-type species diffusion with large elastic–plastic deformations of a body, and account for the swelling and phase segregation caused by the diffusing species.A potential, technologically important, area of application of the theory is in the chemo-mechanical analysis of the evolution of large stresses which develop because of the volume changes associated with the diffusion of lithium ions in the active electrode particles of lithium-ion batteries during charge–discharge cycles.  相似文献

This paper presents a theoretical study of the speeds of plastic waves in rate-independent elastic–plastic materials with anisotropic elasticity. It is shown that for a given propagation direction the plastic wave speeds are equal to or lower than the corresponding elastic speeds, and a simple expression is provided for the bound on the difference between the elastic and the plastic wave speeds. The bound is given as a function of the plastic modulus and the magnitude of a vector defined by the current stress state and the propagation direction. For elastic–plastic materials with cubic symmetry and with tetragonal symmetry, the upper and lower bounds on the plastic wave speeds are obtained without numerically solving an eigenvalue problem. Numerical examples of materials with cubic symmetry (copper) and with tetragonal symmetry (tin) are presented as a validation of the proposed bounds. The lower bound proposed here on the minimum plastic wave speed may also be used as an efficient alternative to the bifurcation analysis at early stages of plastic deformation for the determination of the loss of ellipticity.  相似文献

An elastic–plastic material model with internal variables and thermodynamic potential, not admitting hardening states out of a saturation surface, is assumed as a basis to formulate a statical Melan-type shakedown theorem. Grounding on the optimality conditions relative to the shakedown load multiplier problem for a structure subjected to cyclic loads, the impending inadaptation collapse mechanism at the shakedown limit state is analyzed and discussed. It is shown that the adopted model is able to catch ratchetting collapse mode at a structural level. Numerical results for a simple structure are finally reported.  相似文献

The main objective of this paper is to develop a continuum model for directional tensile failure that can simulate weakening and void formation due to tensile failure. Directionality in the model allows simulation of weakening to tension applied in one direction, without weakening to subsequent tension applied in perpendicular directions. The model is developed within the context of a properly invariant non-linear thermomechanical theory. Specifically, it is shown how the model can be combined with general constitutive equations for porous compaction and dilation, as well as viscoplasticity. The thermoelastic response is hyperelastic, with the stress being determined by derivatives of the Helmholtz free energy, and the material is considered to be elastically isotropic. In particular, it is assumed that the rate of inelasticity due to tensile failure is coaxial with the tensor measure of elastic deformation (and hence stress). This causes the rate of dissipation to take a particularly simple form which can be shown to satisfy the second law of thermodynamics. A numerical procedure for integrating these evolution equations is proposed and a number of examples are considered to explore the response of the model to different loading histories.  相似文献

The mechanical behavior of thin elastic films deposited onto structural alloys plays a critical role in determining film durability. This paper presents analysis of an impression experiment designed to evaluate some of the relevant properties of these films. The modeling provides quantitative strain information which can be used to estimate the fracture toughness of the film, the static friction coefficient of the surface and the constitutive behavior of the substrate. Results are presented for radial and circumferential strain distributions in the film relevant to the interpretation of cracking patterns. Additionally, load-displacement curves are provided that may be used to evaluate the plastic properties of the substrate. To facilitate estimates of the film cracking strain through correlation with experiments, the radial strain distributions are presented as functions of impression depth, yield strain and hardening exponent.  相似文献

An analytical procedure for the evaluation of the elastic–plastic stiffness behaviour of spot welded joints is presented. The procedure is based on a new model of spot weld region: a circular plate having variable thickness with a central rigid nugget, which is resolved using an original analytical method. The closed-form solution allows to describe the displacement of a rigid nugget when an axial orthogonal load is applied on the plate while plasticity and large deflections are present. The goal is to reach a reliable spot weld region model which can be used as the basis to develop a spot weld element in FE analysis even when plasticity and large deflections are in effect. The procedure is as completely original as no other can be found in the technical literature, and it has been applied to some examples of plates usually employed for spot weld analysis. The analytical results obtained by using the new general relations precisely match those obtained modelling spot weld area by FEA.  相似文献

Dynamic stability of uniform straining of a nonlinear elastic solid is known to require that all eigenvalues of the acoustic tensor associated with the tangent elastic moduli be real and nonnegative. The focus of this note is to what extent this conclusion applies to time-independent, elastoplastic materials. Nonlinearity of the elastic–plastic constitutive law imposes limits on validity of a solution to the linear problem for which the acoustic tensor is determined. The effect of those limits on the conclusions about instability is examined.  相似文献

A phenomenon of inequality of equilibrium and constitutive internal forces in a cross-section of elastic–plastic beams is common to many finite element formulations. It is here discussed in a rate-independent, elastic–plastic beam context, and a possible treatment is presented. The starting point of our discussion is Reissners finite-strain beam theory, and its finite element implementation. The questions of the consistency of interpolations for displacements and rotations, and the related locking phenomena are fully avoided by considering the rotation function of the centroid axis of a beam as the only unknown function of the problem. Approximate equilibrium equations are derived by the use of the distribution theory in conjunction with the collocation method. The novelty of our formulation is an inclusion of a balance function that measures the error between the equilibrium and constitutive bending moments in a cross-section. An advantage of the present approach is that the locations, where the balance of equilibrium and constitutive moments should be satisfied, can be prescribed in advance. In order to minimize the error, explicit analytical expressions are used for the constitutive forces; for a rectangular cross-section and bilinear constitutive law, they are given in Appendix A. The comparison between the results of the two finite element formulations, the one using consistent, and the other inconsistent equilibrium in a cross-section, is shown for a cantilever beam subjected to a point load. The problem of high curvature gradients in a plastified region is also discussed and solved by using an adapted collocation method, in which the coordinate system is transformed such to follow high gradients of curvature.  相似文献

Solids (or structures) of elastic–plastic internal variable material models and subjected to cyclic loads are considered. A minimum net resistant power theorem, direct consequence of the classical maximum intrinsic dissipation theorem of plasticity theory, is envisioned which describes the material behavior by determining the plastic flow mechanism (if any) corresponding to a given stress/hardening state. A maximum principle is provided which characterizes the optimal initial stress/hardening state of a cyclically loaded structure as the one such that the plastic strain and kinematic internal variable increments produced over a cycle are kinematically admissible. A steady cycle minimum principle, integrated form of the aforementioned minimum net resistant power theorem, is provided, which characterizes the structure’s steady state response (steady cycle) and proves to be an extension to the present context of known principles of perfect plasticity. The optimality equations of this minimum principle are studied and two particular cases are considered: (i) loads not exceeding the shakedown limit (so recovering known results of shakedown theory) and (ii) specimen under uniform cyclic stress (or strain). Criteria to assess the structure’s ratchet limit loads are given. These, together with some insensitivity features of the structure’s alternating plasticity state, provide the basis to the ratchet limit load analysis problem, for which solution procedures are discussed.  相似文献

The classical shakedown kinematic theorem due to Koiter for elastic–perfectly plastic bodies is re-examined and divided into separated shakedown and nonshakedown theorems. While the shakedown theorem is based on the set of Koiter's plastic strain rate cycles, the non-shakedown one involves a broader set of admissible plastic strain rate cycles, the end-cycle accumulated strains of which are deviatoric parts of compatible strain fields. For certain broad classes of practical problems the two statements are unified to yield the unique theorem in Koiter's sense.  相似文献

In this paper, the magnetic-elastic-plastic deformation behavior is studied for a ferromagnetic plate with simple supports. The perturbation formula of magnetic force is first derived based on the perturbation technique, and is then applied to the analysis of deformation characteristics with emphasis laid on the analyses of modes, symmetry of deformation and influences of incident angle of applied magnetic field on the plate deformation. The theoretical analyses offer explanations why the configuration offer- romagnetic rectangular plate with simple supports under an oblique magnetic field is in-wavy type along the x-direction, and why the largest deformation of the ferromagnetic plate occurs at the incident angle of 45°for the magnetic field. A numerical code based on the finite element method is developed to simulate quantitatively behaviors of the nonlinearly coupled multi-field problem. Some characteristic curves are plotted to illustrate the magneto--elastic-plastic deflections, and to reveal how the deflections can be influenced by the incident angle of applied magnetic field. The deformation characteristics obtained from the numerical simulations are found in good agreement with the theoretical analyses.  相似文献

In order to investigate the impact of microstructures and deformation mechanisms on the ductility of materials, the criterion first proposed by Rice is applied to elastic–plastic tangent moduli derived from a large strain micromechanical model combined with a self-consistent scale-transition technique. This approach takes into account several microstructural aspects for polycrystalline aggregates: initial and induced textures, dislocation densities as well as softening mechanisms such that the behavior during complex loading paths can be accurately described.  相似文献

Modeling of ductile damage is generally done using analytical potentials, which are expressed in the stress space. In this paper, for the first time it is shown that strain-rate potentials which are exact conjugate of the stress-based potentials can be instead used to model the dilatational response of porous polycrystals. A new integration algorithm is also developed. It is to be noted that a strain-rate based formulation is most appropriate when the plastic flow of the matrix is described by a criterion that involves dependence on all stress invariants. In such cases, although a strain-rate potential is known, the stress-based potential cannot be obtained explicitly. While the proposed framework based on strain-rate potentials is general, for comparison purposes in this work we present an illustration of the approach for the case of a porous solid with von Mises matrix containing randomly distributed spherical cavities. Comparison between simulations using the strain-rate based approach and the classical stress-based Gurson's criterion in uniaxial tension is presented. These results show that the model based on a strain-rate potential predicts the dilatational response with the same level of accuracy.  相似文献

Spherical indentation is studied based on numerical analysis and experiment, to develop robust testing techniques to evaluate isotropic elastic–plastic material properties of metals. The representative stress and plastic strain concept is critically investigated via finite element analysis, and some conditions for the representative values are suggested. The representative values should also be a function of material properties, not only indenter angle for sharp indenter and indentation depth for spherical indenter. The pros and cons of shallow and deep spherical indentation techniques are also discussed. For an indentation depth of 20% of an indenter diameter, the relationships between normalized indentation parameters and load–depth data are characterized, and then numerical algorithm to estimate material elastic–plastic curve is presented. From the indentation load–depth curve, the new approach provides stress–strain curve and the values of elastic modulus, yield strength, and strain-hardening exponent with an average error of less than 5%. The method is confirmed to be valid for various elastic properties of indenter. Experimental validation of the approach then is performed by using developed micro-indentation system. For the material severely disobeying power law hardening, a modified method to reduce errors of predicted material properties is contrived. It is found that our method is robust enough to get ideal power law properties, and applicable to input of more complex physics.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of the elastic–plastic nature of shock wave propagation in foams was undertaken. The study involved experimental blast wave and shock tube loading of three foams, two polyurethane open-cell foams and a low-density polyethylene closed-cell foam. Evidence of precursor waves was observed in all three foam samples under various compressive wave loadings. Experiments with an impermeable membrane are used to determine if the precursor wave in an open-cell foam is a result of gas filtration or an elastic response of the foam. The differences between quasi-static and shock compression of foams is discussed in terms of their compressive strain histories and the implications for the energy absorption capacity of foam in both loading scenarios. Through a comparison of shock tube and blast wave loading techniques, suggestions are made concerning the accurate measurements of the principal shock Hugoniot in foams.  相似文献

For an infinite solid containing a void, the cavitation instability limit is defined as the remote stress–and strain state, at which the void grows without bound, driven by the elastic energy stored in the surrounding material. Such cavitation limits have been analysed by a number of authors for metal plasticity as well as for nonlinear elastic solids. The analyses for elastic–plastic solids are here extended to consider the effect of a large initial yield strain, and it is shown how the critical stress value decays for increasing value of the yield strain. Analyses are carried out for remote hydrostatic tension as well as for more general axisymmetric remote stress field, with an initially spherical void. Different levels of strain hardening are considered.  相似文献
