This paper studies a transversely isotropic rod containing a single cylindrical inclusion with axisymmetric eigenstrains. The analytical elastic solution is obtained for the displacements, stresses and elastic strain energy of the rod. The effects of microstructural parameters and its evolution on the elastic stress and strain fields as well as the strain energy of the rod are quantitatively demonstrated through examples.  相似文献

The elastic stress distribution and the variation of the elastic energy with spacing between two inclusions of arbitrary sizes in an infinite isotropic cylindrical rod are obtained by an analytical approach and the phase field microelasticity (PFM) simulation. The results show a near-attraction and far-repulsion elastic interaction between two inclusions with hydrostatic dilatation. The critical spacing, at which the interaction changes from attraction to repulsion, is on the order of the radius of the rod, dependent on the length and Poisson's ratio of inclusions. Furthermore, the elastic energy calculations and PFM simulation results indicate that applying the local radial stress on the rod surface can modulate the elastic interaction between inclusions and adjust the periodicity of the superlattice nanowire structure. This can provide some guidelines for the tunable construction of superlattice nanowire structures.  相似文献

The classical theory of elastic rods does not account for the possibility that large deformations may involve distinct points along the rod occupying the same physical space. We develop an elastic rod model with a pairwise repulsive potential such that, if two non-adjacent points along the rod are close in physical space, there is an energy barrier which prevents contact while for points nearby along the rod the potential is describable classically. This framework is developed to prove the existence of minimizers within each homotopy class, where the idea of topological homotopy of a curve is generalized to elastic rods as framed curves. Finally, the relevant first-order optimality conditions are derived and used to investigate the regularity of minimizers.  相似文献

The longitudinal motion of an elastic rod is studied for the case that the rod is suddenly elastically fixed at one end and is hit by a mass at its other end. This configuration represents real settings e.g. as a valve impacts an elastic valve-seat or as a stamping device used in forging is hit by a large mass. The solution of the problem is formulated in the Laplace transformation space. The inverse transformation into the time domain is performed by engaging the so-called Laguerre polynomial technique. This method allows to calculate exact solutions for finite times from a finite number of series elements. Rigorous mathematical proofs not established up to now are given with respect to the convergence of the series encountered and the validity of exchanging the order of inversion of the Laplace transformation and summation of the established series. For comparison also a numerical solution of the problem is presented. An analysis of the energy transfer between rod, impacting mass and elastic barrier elucidates the marked influence of the deformability of the elastic barrier on the stress state in the rod.  相似文献

An elastic wave transmitting system (e.g. a nonuniform elastic rod) consisting of an input section with constant impedance, a joint with variable impedance, and an output section with constant impedance is considered. The efficiency of energy transmission (the ratio of transmitted to incident elastic wave energy) is determined and the following optimization problem is solved for two sample cases: Given the properties of the wave transmitting system and a limited duration of the incident wave, determine the shape of this wave such that the efficiency of energy transmission is maximized. In the first case (a joint with constant impedance) the optimization problem leads to a matrix eigenvalue problem. In the second case (a joint with concentrated mass) it leads to an eigenvalue problem for an integral equation. The efficiencies obtained for the optimum incident waves are compared with those obtained for rectagular incident waves an it is found that the differences are generally small. The results, which are discussed with particular reference to the transmission of elastic wave energy through drill rod joints, can also be interpreted for e.g. shallow water waves and electromagnetic waves in a transmission line.  相似文献

本文研究了线弹性的圆截面压杆在刚性井壁的曲线井中的屈曲问题。压杆两端为铰支,杆和井壁之间的摩擦力忽略不计,失稳前假设压杆位于曲线井的较低侧。分析了压杆屈曲时的几何变形条件,导出了压杆的曲率,变形能和各项外力势的表达式,用最小势能原理导出压杆失稳的微分方程和边界条件。引入梁单元,用有限单元法求得了压杆失稳时的临界压力和杆轴线状态。结果显示,临界压力随着压杆自重和曲线井半径的增加而增加。自重为零时,杆轴线为半个正弦曲线;自重不为零时,杆轴线为振荡的曲线,且振荡主要集中在压杆顶部。  相似文献

In this study, the feasibility of continuous, online monitoring of power lines using ultrasonic waves is considered. Local and global wave-based approaches for wire break detection in overhead transmission lines are presented. Both methods use a sending/receiving transducer to generate an ultrasonic, longitudinal, elastic wave in the cable. Defects in the cable cause a portion of the incident ultrasonic wave to be reflected back to the transducer, which when received, can be used to identify the presence of the defect. Although the transducers can only be attached to the surface of the cable, subsurface wires can also be interrogated since elastic energy spreads to these wires through friction contact. This study also explores how the elastic energy of a propagating wave becomes distributed among contacting rods via friction contact. This work focuses specifically on a two-rod system in which the wave energy from an excited “active” rod is transmitted to a neighboring “passive” rod through friction contact. An energy-based model is used to approximate the time average elastic wave power in the two rods as a function of propagation distance. Power predictions from the energy-based model compare well with experimental measurements and finite element simulations.  相似文献

作为DNA的力学模型,依据Kirchhoff动力学比拟思想建立的弹性细杆的分析力学方法已从静力学深入到动力学。由于静力学平衡微分方程与刚体动力学相当,因此,弹性细杆动力学的分析力学方程必是以弧坐标和时间为双自变量的偏微分方程。以横截面的形心速度以及弯扭度和角速度沿主轴的分量为准速度,定义了准坐标,导出了准坐标的微分和变分运算的交换关系。从Hamilton原理出发,利用准坐标的微分和变分运算的交换关系,导出了Kirchhoff弹性杆动力学准坐标下的Boltzmann-Hamel方程,并由此导出Lanrange方程。指出了Boltzmann-Hamel方程显式即为弹性杆动力学的Kirchhoff方程。定义关于弧坐标和时间的正则变量和Hamilton函数,导出Boltzmann-Hamel方程的正则形式。本文结果是以弹性杆静力学和刚性杆动力学为其特例。作为例子,建立了垂挂的在重力作用下作平面运动的弹性细杆的动力学微分方程以说明本文方法的应用。  相似文献

We catalogue configurations that locally minimize energy for a planar elastic rod (extensible-shearable or inextensible-unshearable) subject to arbitrary Dirichlet boundary conditions in position and orientation. Via a combination of analysis and computation, we determine several bifurcation surfaces in the 3-parameter space of boundary conditions and explore how they depend on the rod material parameters, including in the inextensible limit. For each possible boundary condition, we find all stable equilibria with sufficiently low energy that they might be competitive within a Boltzmann distribution if the rod were used to model DNA with tens or hundreds of base pairs, the length-scale relevant for DNA looping. Depending on the boundary conditions, there are as many as three such equilibria.  相似文献

Analytical and experimental procedures are used to investigate the large deformation of an initially deformed elastic rod subject to longitudinal and gravitational loads. The ends of the rod rest on simple supports and are connected by a linear spring. Predictions of the system's large deformation behavior, including snap-through from a buckled configuration to a lower-energy equilibrium state, are obtained through a direct application of the minimum potential energy principle. The minimization is performed using Powell's optimization routine. Analytically determined values of displacement are compared with the exact solution for the special case of an ideal column, and with experimental results for various rod/spring configurations. A simplified approach for predicting snap-through is described in the Appendix.  相似文献

We examine non-linear resonant interactions between a damped and forced dispersive linear finite rod and a lightweight essentially non-linear end attachment. We show that these interactions may lead to passive, broadband and on-way targeted energy flow from the rod to the attachment, which acts, in essence, as non-linear energy sink (NES). The transient dynamics of this system subject to shock excitation is examined numerically using a finite element (FE) formulation. Parametric studies are performed to examine the regions in parameter space where optimal (maximal) efficiency of targeted energy pumping from the rod to the NES occurs. Signal processing of the transient time series is then performed, employing energy transfer and/or exchange measures, wavelet transforms, empirical mode decomposition and Hilbert transforms. By computing intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) of the transient responses of the NES and the edge of the rod, and examining resonance captures that occur between them, we are able to identify the non-linear resonance mechanisms that govern the (strong or weak) one-way energy transfers from the rod to the NES. The present study demonstrates the efficacy of using local lightweight non-linear attachments (NESs) as passive broadband energy absorbers of unwanted disturbances in continuous elastic structures, and investigates the dynamical mechanisms that govern the resonance interactions influencing this passive non-linear energy absorption.  相似文献

We consider the problem of determining the stability boundary for an elastic rod under thrust and torsion. The constitutive equations of the rod are such that both shear of the cross-section and compressibility of the rod axis are considered. The stability boundary is determined from the bifurcation points of a single nonlinear second order differential equation that is obtained by using the first integrals of the equilibrium equations. The type of bifurcation is determined for parameter values. It is shown that the bifurcating branch is the branch with minimal energy. Finally, by using the first integral, the solution for one specific dependent variable is expressed in terms of elliptic integrals. The solution pertaining to the complete set of equilibrium equations is obtained by numerical integration.  相似文献

本文研究端部受力和力矩作用,且存在初曲率和初扭率的非圆截面弹性细杆的螺旋线平衡及其稳定性。描述弹性细杆平衡状态的Kirchhoff方程存在与杆的螺旋线平衡状态相对应的特解。直杆和圆环杆为螺旋线状态的两种特例。文中分析了螺旋线的几何特性与作用力和力矩之间的相互关系,并导出螺旋线平衡的一次近似解析形式稳定性判据。分析表明,松弛状态下弹性杆可处于螺旋线状态,直杆只有在轴向压力的作用下才能保持螺旋线平衡。无初曲率和初扭率弹性杆的螺旋线平衡稳定性必要条件是杆截面绕副法线轴的抗弯刚度大于或等于绕法线轴的抗弯刚度。此条件也适用于带初扭率的圆环杆及更普遍情形。无初曲率和初扭率的圆截面杆的螺旋线平衡恒稳定。  相似文献

The stability of an inextensible unshearable elastic rod with quadratic strain energy density subject to end loads is considered. We study the second variation of the corresponding rod-energy, making a distinction between in-plane and out-of-plane perturbations and isotropic and anisotropic cross-sections, respectively. In all cases, we demonstrate that the naturally straight state is a local energy minimizer in parameter regimes specified by material constants. These stability results are also accompanied by instability results in parameter regimes defined in terms of material constants.  相似文献

Motivated by the elastic rod model for DNA with intrinsic curvature, we study the solution space of the Euler-Lagrange equations governing isotropic, homogeneous, naturally curved Kirchhoff??s elastic thin rods. Our studies show that for each given total energy and twisting density, there are at most three solutions, aside from the case where the twisting density is some particular constant. We also propose in this paper a reasonable condition under which an improvement on the number of the solutions may be possible. Finally, numerical calculations are presented to support our conclusions.  相似文献

An optimal design problem solved previously for an elastic rod hanging under its own weight found the distribution of the cross-sectional area that minimized the total potential energy stored in an equilibrium state, with the admissible designs bounded above and below and also subject to the constraint of prescribed total volume. This work solves the companion problem of the design that stores the maximum potential energy under the same constraint conditions. The method used is based on a comparison theorem for sandwich structures.  相似文献
