Upper and lower bounds for generalized Christoffel functions, called Freud-Christoffel functions, are obtained. These have the form λn,p(W,j,x) = infPWLp(R)/|P(j)(X)| where the infimum is taken over all polynomials P(x) of degree at most n − 1. The upper and lower bounds for λn,p(W,j,x) are obtained for all 0 < p ∞ and J = 0, 1, 2, 3,… for weights W(x) = exp(−Q(x)), where, among other things, Q(x) is bounded in [− A, A], and Q″ is continuous in β(−A, A) for some A > 0. For p = ∞, the lower bounds give a simple proof of local and global Markov-Bernstein inequalities. For p = 2, the results remove some restrictions on Q in Freud's work. The weights considered include W(x) = exp(− ¦x¦α/2), α > 0, and W(x) = exp(− expx¦)), > 0.  相似文献

Let G be a graph and p ϵ (0, 1). Let A(G, p) denote the probability that if each edge of G is selected at random with probability p then the resulting spanning subgraph of G is connected. Then A(G, p) is a polynomial in p. We prove that for every integer k ≥ 1 and every k‐tuple (m1, m2, … ,mk) of positive integers there exist infinitely many pairs of graphs G1 and G2 of the same size such that the polynomial A(G1, p) − A(G2, p) has exactly k roots x1 < x2 < ··· < xk in (0, 1) such that the multiplicity of xi is mi. We also prove the same result for the two‐terminal reliability polynomial, defined as the probability that the random subgraph as above includes a path connecting two specified vertices. Bounds for the bracketing entropy of the classes of bounded k-monotone functions on [0, A] are obtained under both the Hellinger distance and the L p (Q) distance, where 1 ⩽ p < ∞ and Q is a probability measure on [0,A]. The result is then applied to obtain the rate of convergence of the maximum likelihood estimator of a k-monotone density. By using the regularized gap function for variational inequalities, we introduce a new penalty function P α(x) for the problem of minimizing a twice continuously differentiable function in a closed convex subset of the n-dimensional space . Under certain assumptions, it is shown that any stationary point of the penalty function P α(x) satisfies the first-order optimality condition of the original constrained minimization problem, and any local (or global) minimizer of P α(x) on is a locally (or globally) optimal solution of the original optimization problem.  相似文献

An approximation of function u(x) as a Taylor series expansion about a point x0 at M points xi, ~ i = 1,2,…,M is used where xi are arbitrary‐spaced. This approximation is a linear system for the derivatives u(k) with an arbitrary accuracy. An analytical expression for the inverse matrix A ?1 where A = [Aik] = (xi ? x0)k is found. We study the inverse spectral problem for the Sturm–Liouville operator whose piecewise constant coefficient A(x) has discontinuity points x k , k=1,...,n, and jumps A k =A(x k +0)/A(x k -0). We show that if the discontinuity points x 1,...,x n are noncommensurable, i.e., none of their linear combinations with integer coefficients vanishes; then the spectral function of the operator determines all discontinuity points x k and jumps A k uniquely. The filled function method is an effective approach to find the global minimizer. Two of the recently proposed filled functions are H(X) and L2(X). Although their numerical behavior is acceptable, they are not defined everywhere. This paper proposes a class of augmented filled functions with improved analyticity. Issues covered in the presented work include: theoretical properties, convergence analysis, geometric interpretation, algorithms, and numerical experiments. The overall performance of the new approach is comparable to the recently proposed ones.  相似文献

Given another sequence of modulus functions Ψ = (ψk), we characterize the continuity of the superposition operators P f from λ(Φ) into μ (Ψ) for some Banach sequence spaces λ and μ under the assumptions that the moduli ϕk (k ∈ ℕ) are unbounded and the topologies on the sequence spaces λ(Φ) and μ(Ψ) are given by certain F-norms. We introduce symmetrizing operators of the polynomial ring A[x] in the variable x over a ring A. When A is an algebra over a field k these operators are used to characterize the monic polynomials F(x) of degree n in A[x] such that A k k[x](x)/(F(x)) is a free A-module of rank n.
