Nonspherical colloids and their ordered arrays may be more attractive in applications such as photonic crystals than their spherical counterparts because of their lower symmetries, although such structures are difficult to achieve. In this letter, we describe the fabrication and characterization of colloidal crystals constructed from nonspherical polyhedrons. We fabricated such nonspherical colloidal crystals by pressing spherical polymer colloidal crystal chips at a temperature slightly lower than the glass-transition temperature (T(g)) of these polymer colloids. During this process, the polymer microspheres were distinctively transformed into polyhedrons according to their crystal structures, whereas the long-range order of the 3D lattice was essentially preserved. Because a working temperature lower than T(g) effectively prevented the colloidal crystals from fusing into films, the spherical colloidal crystals were transformed greatly under pressure, which lead to obvious change in the optical properties of colloidal crystals. Besides their special symmetry and optical properties, these nonspherical colloidal crystals can be used as templates for 2D or 3D structures of special symmetry, such as 2D nano-networks. We anticipate that this fabrication technique for nonspherical colloidal crystals can also be extended to nonspherical porous materials.  相似文献

A novel nonenzymatic glucose sensor was successfully fabricated based on the Cu2O polyhedrons covered Cu foil. The Cu2O polyhedrons covered Cu foil was constructed via a facile,low-cost and larger scale producible method. The Cu2O polyhedrons covered Cu foil can be directly used as the working electrode of nonenzymatic glucose sensor, which present good stability and flexibility. The results indicated that the Cu2O polyhedrons modified Cu electrode(Cu2O/Cu electrode) showed high electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of glucose in alkaline solution. There are two linear regions of glucose concentration for the glucose sensor based on Cu2O/Cu electrode, respectively in 10 mmol/L to 0.53 mmol/L(sensitivity:3029.33 mA(mmol/L) à1 cm à2) and in 0.53-7.53 mmol/L(sensitivity:728.67 mA(mmol/L) à1 cm à2).  相似文献

Fluctuations in the bending angles at internal irregularities of DNA and RNA (such as symmetric loops, bulges, and nicks/gaps) have been observed from various experiments. However, little effort has been made to computationally predict and explain the statistical behavior of semi-flexible chains with internal defects. In this paper, we describe the general structure of these macromolecular chains as inextensible elastic chains with one or more internal joints which have limited ranges of rotation, and propose a method to compute the probability density functions of the end-to-end pose of these macromolecular chains. Our method takes advantage of the operational properties of the non-commutative Fourier transform for the group of rigid-body motions in three-dimensional space, SE(3). Two representative types of joints, the hinge for planar rotation and the ball joint for spatial rotation, are discussed in detail. The proposed method applies to various stiffness models of semi-flexible chain-like macromolecules. Examples are calculated using the Kratky-Porod model with specified stiffness, angular fluctuation, and joint locations. Entropic effects associated with internal angular fluctuations of semi-flexible macromolecular chains with internal joints can be computed using this formulation. Our method also provides a potential tool to detect the existence of internal irregularities.  相似文献

In this work, a template-free synthetic approach for generating single-crystalline hollow nanostructures has been described. Using the small optical band-gap cuprous oxide Cu(2)O as a model case, we demonstrate that, instead of normally known spherical aggregates, primary nanocrystalline particles can first self-aggregate into porous organized solids with a well-defined polyhedral shape according to the oriented attachment mechanism, during which chemical conversion can also be introduced. In contrast to the spherical aggregates, where the nanocrystallites are randomly joined together, the Cu(2)O nanocrystallites in the present case are well organized, maintaining a definite geometric shape and a global crystal symmetry. Due to the presence of intercrystallite space, hollowing and chemical conversion can also be carried out in order to create central space and change the chemical phase of nanostructured polyhedrons. It has been revealed that Ostwald ripening plays a key role in the solid evacuation process. Using this synthetic strategy, we have successfully prepared single-crystal-like Cu(2)O nanocubes and polycrystalline Cu nanocubes with hollow interiors. For the first time, we demonstrate that nanostructured polyhedrons of functional materials with desired interiors can be synthesized in solution via a combination of oriented attachment and Ostwald ripening processes.  相似文献

High surface energy of high-index facets endows nanocrystals with high activities and thus promotes potential applications such as highly efficient catalysts, special optical, electrical and magnetic devices. But the high surface energy of the high-index facets usually drives them to grow faster than the other facets and finally disappear during the crystal growth, which leads the synthesis of nanocrystals with high-indexed facets exposed to be a great challenge.Herein,we introduced two routes to control the synthesis of-Fe2O3polyhedrons with different sets of high-index facets, one using different metal ions(Ni2+,Cu2+or Zn2+)as structure-directing agents and the other applying polymer surfactant sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)as additive. The growth process of high-index-Fe2O3polyhedrons was also discussed and possible growth mechanism was proposed.  相似文献

Continuum mechanics models describing the contact between two adhesive elastic spheres, such as the JKR and DMT models, provide a relationship between the elastic indentation depth and the normal load, but the general intermediate case between these two limiting cases requires a more complex analysis. The Maugis-Dugdale theory gives analytical solutions, but they are difficult to use when comparing to experimental data such as those obtained by scanning force microscopy. In this paper we propose a generalized equation between elastic indentation depth and load that approximates Maugis' solution very closely. If the normal contact stiffness can be described as the force gradient, that is the case of the force modulation microcopy, then a generalized equation between normal contact stiffness and load can be deduced. Both general equations can be easily fit to experimental data, and then interfacial energy and elastic modulus of the contact can be determined if the radius of the indenting sphere is known. Inspired by natural enzymes, hierarchical catalytic supramolecular nanostructures were developed by the co-assembly of hemin and glucose oxidase (or Au NPs) with the photosensitive ferrocene–tyrosine (Fc-Y) molecule. Illuminated by white light, the Fc-Y molecules are polymerized and co-assemble with hemin into truncated polyhedrons. The Au NPs grew in situ at the surface of the co-assembled polyhedrons, achieving ordered supramolecular nanostructures. Because the Au NPs can serve as an artificial glucose oxidase and the hemin could act as a peroxidase mimic, the supramolecular hybrid nanostructures were used to mimic natural enzymes and catalyze the glucose conversion cascade reaction. The hybrid Au NPs@Fc-Y&hemin polyhedrons showed superior catalytic activity, good reusability, and maintained the catalytic activity over a wide temperature and pH range. The study demonstrates a feasible strategy to construct hierarchical co-assembled supramolecular nanostructures as multi-enzyme mimics, with potential applications in biocatalysis and biosensing.  相似文献

To gain insight into the structures and stability of F4F6 polyhedrons formed by squares and hexagons, a density functional theory study was performed on all isomers of F4F6 polyhedrons with sizes from 8 to 60. The calculated results demonstrate that the six squares tend to isolate from each other, i.e. these F4F6 polyhedrons obey the isolated square rule. Those isomers with fewer B44 bonds (square-square adjacencies) are more stable than those with more B44 bonds, i.e. they obey square adjacency penalty rule. Both of the two rules in F4F6 polyhedrons are in the same status as the isolated pentagon rule and pentagon adjacency penalty rule in F5F6 fullerenes and can be used to screen the lowest energy isomers of F4F6 polyhedrons as IPR and PAPR do in classic fullerenes. Structural analysis demonstrates that the pyramidalization of carbon atoms at the square-square adjacencies determines the stability of corresponding structures. In this work, hybrid porous Co3O4–CeO2 hollow polyhedrons have been successfully obtained via a simple cation‐exchange route followed by heat treatment. In the synthesis process, ZIF‐67 polyhedron frameworks are firstly prepared, which not only serve as a host for the exchanged Ce3+ ions but also act as the template for the synthesis of hybrid porous Co3O4–CeO2 hollow polyhedrons. When utilized as electrode materials for supercapacitors, the hybrid porous Co3O4–CeO2 hollow polyhedrons delivered a large specific capacitance of 1288.3 F g?1 at 2.5 A g?1 and a remarkable long lifespan cycling stability (<3.3 % loss after 6000 cycles). Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device based on hybrid porous Co3O4–CeO2 hollow polyhedrons was assembled. The ASC device possesses an energy density of 54.9 W h kg?1, which can be retained to 44.2 W h kg?1 even at a power density of 5100 W kg?1, indicating its promising application in electrochemical energy storage. More importantly, we believe that the present route is a simple and versatile strategy for the preparation of other hybrid metal oxides with desired structures, chemical compositions and applications.  相似文献

Hollow nanostructures have attracted increasing research interest in hydrogen evolution reaction owing to their unique structural features.Herein,Ni-Co mixed metal phosphide hollow and porous polyhedrons was successfully composited(expressed as NiCoP).Benefiting from the synergistic effects of ZIF-67 by doping Ni elements and the well-defined hollow and porous structure, the as-synthesized NiCoP hollow and porous polyhedrons exhibit better electrochemical properties and mechanical stability for hydrogen evolution reaction over a pH-universal range, with a small Tafel slopes of 72,101,176 mV/dec,and a low overpotential of 82,102,261 mV at a current density of 10 mA/cm2 in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4,1 mol/L KOH and1 mol/L phosphate buffer solution(PBS).This general strategy can also be applied to fabricate other hollow cobalt-based phosphides and MOFs-derived materials for HER.  相似文献

A predictive creep model is developed which uses the properties of matrix and reinforcement to predict the creep of polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites. Up to this point, primarily empirical creep models such as Findley and Burgers models have been used for creep of polymer/clay nanocomposites. The proposed creep model is based on the elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle and a stiffness model of these nanocomposites. Also, the added stiffness of polymeric matrix due to the constraining effect of layered silicates on polymer chains in the nanocomposite is considered by a parameter termed constraint factor. The results of the proposed model show good agreement with experimental creep data for different clay contents, stresses and temperatures. Comparing the model predictions with experimental data, a logical relationship between the method of processing and the constraint factor is discovered which shows that in-situ polymerization can be more efficient for improving creep resistance of polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites relative to melt processing.  相似文献

ZnSe has got extensive attention for high-performance LIBs anode due to its remarkable theoretical capacity and environmental friendliness. Nevertheless, the large volume variation for the ZnSe in the discharge/charge processes brings about rapid capacity fading and poor rate performance. Herein, ZnSe/C hollow polyhedrons are successfully synthesized by selenization of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) with resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) coating. The protection of C layer derived from RF coating layer and Ostwald ripening during the process of selenization play important roles in promoting formation of ZnSe/C hollow polyhedrons. The ZnSe/C hollow polyhedrons exhibit good rate performance and long-term cycle stability (345 mAh g−1 up to 1000 cycles at 1 A g−1) for lithium ion batteries (LIBs) anode. The improved electrochemical performance is benefit from the unique ZnSe/C hollow structure, in which the hollow structure can effectively avoid terrible volume expansion, and the thin ZnSe/C shell can not only provide adequate diffusion paths of lithium ions and but also enhance the electronic conductivity.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that when using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as tapping-mode AFM probes, their tilt angle with respect to vertical (denoted phi) must be close to 0 degrees to obtain high-quality images and that very poor images are obtained for phi > 30 degrees . Here we present a quantitative theoretical investigation of the effect of phi on tapping-mode AFM imaging for single-wall and multiwall nanotube (SWNT and MWNT, respectively) probes of diameters 3.4-5.5 nm and aspect ratio 7.5, which have been found ideal for imaging via TEM. Using molecular and classical dynamics, we investigate the effect of phi on CNT probe stiffness (quantified through the maximum gradient of the tip-sample interaction force) and show that it decreases linearly with increasing phi, becoming negligible at around phi approximately 40 degrees , thus confirming the conclusions of previous studies. We find that MWNT probe stiffness is proportional to the number of walls, but that the difference in stiffness between SWNTs and MWNTs also decreases linearly with increasing phi and becomes negligible at around phi approximately 40 degrees . The simulated cross-sectional scans of a sample SWNT using two different values of phi show that the image can be distorted and shifted laterally when phi is large, in some cases giving measured heights appreciably greater than the sample dimensions. We show analytically that the tip-sample forces that occur during imaging can be significantly lower when CNT probes are used instead of conventional probes, even in the absence of buckling, and that they can be further reduced by increasing phi. On the basis of this result, we propose the design of free-standing kinked probes for the characterization of sensitive samples, whereby the probe approaches the sample at a vertical orientation and possesses a tilted section that regulates the tip-sample interaction forces.  相似文献

Predicting protein structures from their amino acid sequences is a problem of global optimization. Global optima (native structures) are often sought using stochastic sampling methods such as Monte Carlo or molecular dynamics, but these methods are slow. In contrast, there are fast deterministic methods that find near-optimal solutions of well-known global optimization problems such as the traveling salesman problem (TSP). But fast TSP strategies have yet to be applied to protein folding, because of fundamental differences in the two types of problems. Here, we show how protein folding can be framed in terms of the TSP, to which we apply a variation of the Durbin-Willshaw elastic net optimization strategy. We illustrate using a simple model of proteins with database-derived statistical potentials and predicted secondary structure restraints. This optimization strategy can be applied to many different models and potential functions, and can readily incorporate experimental restraint information. It is also fast; with the simple model used here, the method finds structures that are within 5-6 A all-Calpha-atom RMSD of the known native structures for 40-mers in about 8 s on a PC; 100-mers take about 20 s. The computer time tau scales as tau approximately n, where n is the number of amino acids. This method may prove to be useful for structure refinement and prediction.  相似文献

We have developed a method that combines molecular interaction fields with soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA) Wold:1977 to predict pharmacokinetic drug properties. Several additional considerations to those made in traditional QSAR are required in order to develop a successful QSPR strategy that is capable of accommodating the many complex factors that contribute to key pharmacokinetic properties such as ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) and toxicology. An accurate prediction of oral bioavailability, for example, requires that absorption and first-pass hepatic elimination both be taken into consideration. To accomplish this, general properties of molecules must be related to their solubility and ability to penetrate biological membranes, and specific features must be related to their particular metabolic and toxicological profiles. Here we describe a method, which is applicable to structurally diverse data sets while utilizing as much detailed structural information as possible. We address the issue of the molecular alignment of a structurally diverse set of compounds using idiotropic field orientation (IFO), a generalization of inertial field orientation Clark:1998. We have developed a second flavor of this method, which directly incorporates electrostatics into the molecular alignment. Both variations of IFO produce a characteristic orientation for each structure and the corresponding molecular fields can then be analyzed using SIMCA. Models are presented for human intestinal absorption, blood-brain barrier penetration and bioavailability to demonstrate ways in which this tool can be used early in the drug development process to identify leads likely to exhibit poor pharmacokinetic behavior in pre-clinical studies, and we have explored the influence of conformation and molecular field type on the statistical properties of the models obtained.  相似文献

We demonstrated a unique optofluidic lab-on-a-chip device that can measure optically encoded forward scattering signals. From the design of the spatial pattern, we can measure the position and velocity of each cell in the flow and generate a 2-D cell distribution plot over the cross section of the channel. Moreover, we have demonstrated that the cell distribution is highly sensitive to its size and stiffness. The latter is an important biomarker for cell classification and our method offers a simple and unequivocal method to classify cells by their size and stiffness. We have proved the concept using live and fixed HeLa cells. Due to the stiffness and size difference of neutrophils compared to other types of white blood cells, we have demonstrated detection of neutrophils from other blood cells. Finally, we have performed the test using 5 μL of human blood. In a greatly simplified blood preparation process, skipping the usual steps of anticoagulation, centrifuge, antibody labelling or staining, filtering, etc., we have demonstrated that our device and detection principle can count neutrophils in whole human blood. Our system is compact, inexpensive and simple to fabricate and operate, having a commodity laser diode and a Si PIN photoreceiver as the main pieces of hardware. Although the results are still preliminary, the studies indicate that this optofluidic device holds promise to be a point-of-care and home care device to measure neutrophil concentration, which is the key indicator of the immune functions for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.  相似文献

The conformation and titration curves of weak polyampholytes are examined using Monte Carlo simulations with screened Coulomb potentials in the Grand Canonical ensemble. Two different types of monomers are considered. Depending on the solution pH, monomers A are weak acidic sites that can either be negatively charged or uncharged (as carboxylic groups), whereas monomers B are weak basic sites that can either be positively charged or uncharged (as amino groups). The influence of the chain stiffness, primary structure, and ionic concentration on the acid/base properties of the polyampholyte chains are systematically investigated. By adjusting the pH values, titration curves and then the fractions of positively and negatively ionized charged monomers are calculated. Stiffness influence is estimated by comparing two models of chain: a fully flexible and a rod-like polyampholyte. Different primary structures such as statistical (diblock, octablock, and alternating) and random polyampholytes are also considered. We demonstrate that the primary structure plays important roles in the acid/base properties as well as the charge distribution along the polymer backbone of a statistical rod-like polyampholyte. When flexible polyampholytes are considered, polyampholyte conformations promote the attractive electrostatic interactions between positively and negatively charged monomers, hence leading to more or less compact conformations and acid/base properties relatively different in comparison to the rod-like polyampholytes. Various conformations such as extended, globular, and pearl-necklace conformations are found in good agreement with the literature by adjusting the interaction parameter between monomers and monomer stoichiometry.  相似文献

Summary P450SU1 and P450SU2 are herbicide-inducible bacterial cytochrome P450 enzymes from Streptomyces griseolus. They have two of the highest sequence identities to camphor hydroxylase (P450cam from Pseudomonas putida), the cytochrome P450 with the first known crystal structure. We have built several models of these two proteins to investigate the variability in the structures that can occur from using different modeling protocols. We looked at variability due to alignment methods, backbone loop conformations and refinement methods. We have constructed two models for each protein using two alignment algorithms, and then an additional model using an identical alignment but different loop conformations for both buried and surface loops. The alignments used to build the models were created using the Needleman-Wunsch method, adapted for multiple sequences, and a manual method that utilized both a dotmatrix search matrix and the Needleman-Wunsch method. After constructing the initial models, several energy minimization methods were used to explore the variability in the final models caused by the choice of minimization techniques. Features of cytochrome P450cam and the cytochrome P450 superfamily, such as the ferredoxin binding site, the heme binding site and the substrate binding site were used to evaluate the validity of the models. Although the final structures were very similar between the models with different alignments, active-site residues were found to be dependent on the conformations of buried loops and early stages of energy minimization. We show which regions of the active site are the most dependent on the particular methods used, and which parts of the structures seem to be independent of the methods.  相似文献
