The blocking probability in wavelength-routed all-optical networks is a very important measure of performance of the network. This blocking probability can be affected by many factors such as network topology, traffic load, number of links, algorithms employed and whether wavelength conversion is available or not. In this paper we have proposed a mathematical model to reduce the blocking probability of the WDM optical network for both wavelength convertible networks as well as for wavelength non-convertible networks. The model is can be used to evaluate the blocking performance of any network topology also it can be useful to improve its performance of the given network topology. 相似文献

提出了基于最大收益的捆绑疏导算法(MRA)来解决光网络中具有多种物理约束的业务量疏导问题。MRA首先在物理拓扑上逐个放置业务, 随后捆绑细粒度业务、实现管道实例化。即考虑业务的路由情况, 将其在物理拓扑上的路由都视为单跳的细粒度管道, 然后使用基于深度优先搜索的方法来检查哪些业务能够捆绑到一起形成多跳粗粒度的潜在管道, 以节省中间节点的细粒度交换容量。再从这些粗粒度的潜在管道中, 使用最大收益的方法遴选出具有最大成本收益的无冲突集合, 并加以实例化。仿真结果显示, 在处理多个物理约束时, MRA在容量和实现成本上均优于现有的算法, 并且它能处理多达百个节点以上的大网络中的业务量疏导问题。 相似文献

Storage area networks (SANs) are an essential part of enterprise computing today. There is no comprehensive business continuity plan without SANs in the picture. This paper proposes and evaluates network survivability of optical paths in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based storage area networks in a metro ring network. The paper begins with a background on network survivability in metro WDM ring network. Subsequently, the network and node architectures along with their medium access control (MAC) protocols are described. In this work, one link failure (a single cable cut) in metro WDM based SANs in a ring network architecture is considered. Performance evaluation for network survivability in metro WDM SAN is carried out by means of discrete-event computer simulation. Network throughput and packet delay are investigated. The network performance is evaluated for asymmetric (unbalanced) traffic scenarios under Poisson and self-similar traffic. 相似文献

In this paper, all-optical WDM networks based on a slotted multichannel ring topology have been investigated. The nodes are equipped with one fixed-wavelength receiver, wavelength-tunable transmitter and provide packet-mode transport in WDM network. The topology provides one logical channel to be associated with each destination node. Each channel is shared in statistical time division by all nodes transmitting to a given destination. The capacity enhancement has been demonstrated by comparing all optical WDM network by increasing the number of nodes. It is concluded that by increasing the number of nodes in the topology, the token queue length capacity, the token arrival rate are increased and the token arrival period is decreased which results in overall increase in the performance and capacity of the logical WDM network. 相似文献

A dynamically selective multiwavelength cross-connect for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks based on fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) and optical switches is reported. Dynamically single- or multi-channel cross-connect functionality can be realized according to control of the optical switches and the FBGs' arrangement. Bit-error-rate performance with negligible power penalty is achieved in a 2.5Gbs-1x3 WDM channels over 100km conventional single-mode fibre (SMF) network demonstration. The characteristics of low channel crosstalk, uniform channel loss, high scalability and cascadability, and low cost of this device could provide more reconfiguration flexibility and network survivability for WDM networks. 相似文献

We review recent progress on all‐optical virtual‐private‐network (VPN) schemes in passive optical networks (PONs). PON is a promising candidate in future access areas to provide broadband services with low cost. With all‐optical virtual private network (VPN) function, PON can support efficient internetworking among end users with dedicated optical channels, thus enabling guaranteed bandwidth and enhanced security at the physical layer. Here, we discuss and compare existing schemes of all‐optical VPNs in time‐division‐multiplexed (TDM) PONs, and also recently proposed schemes for deployment in wavelength‐division‐multiplexed (WDM) PONs and two‐stage TDM/WDM PONs. 相似文献

We consider the routing and wavelength assignment problem on wavelength division multiplexing networks without wavelength conversion. When the physical network and required connections are given, routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) is the problem to select a suitable path and wavelength among the many possible choices for each connection such that no two paths using the same wavelength pass through the same link. In wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, there is need to maximize the number of connections established and to minimize the blocking probability using limited resources. In this paper, we have proposed three dynamic link weight assignment strategies that change the link weight according to the traffic. The performance of the existing trend and the proposed strategies is shown in terms of blocking probability. Compared to the traditional wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks with rigid and coarse granularities, flexible spectrum optical networks have high spectrum efficiency, which can support the service with various bandwidth requirements, such as sub and super channel. Among all network performance parameters, blocking probability is an important parameter for the performance evaluation and network planning in circuit~based optical networks including flexible spectrum optical networks. We propose an analytical method of blocking probability computation for flexible spectrum optical networks in this letter through mathematical analysis and theoretical derivation. Two blocking probability models are built respectively based on whether considering spectrum consecutiveness or not. In this paper, we discuss the problem of supporting resource optimization of manycasting service over wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. Manycast is a novel group communication paradigm wherein the source is required to send data packets to a certain number of a set of pre-specified group members. Since it integrates the characteristic of multicast and anycast, manycast is attracting increasing interest from researchers over wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. Splitter, cost, wavelength channel are three parameters which are taken into consideration for the first time in WDM. Finding a manycast tree which span the resource and selected nodes with minimum number of splitter, cost and wavelength channel is an NP-complete problem, and therefore we propose a simple and efficient heuristic solution: based-frequency manycast routing (BFM) algorithm to construct manycast trees with the aim of reducing the use of network resources. For a set of manycast requests, the simulation result shows BFM builds manycast trees with the smallest number of resources than other algorithms. 相似文献

One of the main challenges in all-optical WDM networks is the problem of Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA). In large-scale networks with heavy traffic load, distributed RWA is more suitable than centralized RWA. One of the distributed algorithms proposed recently is Distributed Lightpath Allocation (DLA) [1]. We use the DLA as our basic algorithm to design a new congestion-aware RWA algorithm, called Least-Congested Distributed Lightpath Allocation (LC-DLA). We consider congestion in the network as a decision point for solving RWA. Selection of the least congested path among available paths from source to destination can improve the blocking probability of the network. Fairness is one of the crucial metrics that network designers should consider. We define a new concept for fairness in RWA. Our performance evaluations show that LC-DLA can provide good blocking and fairness performances in WDM networks. 相似文献

In this paper, the cost effective bi-directional passive optical network architecture with wavelength remodulated scheme is investigated. To realize the cost-effective PON, remodulation scheme is used, in which the downstream optical signal is reused as a carrier for the upstream transmission as it eliminates the need for an extra laser source at optical network units. The performance of proposed passive optical network is analyzed and compared for various modulation formats such as Non Return to Zero (NRZ), Return to Zero (RZ) and On–Off Keying (OOK) with 64 optical networks units (ONUs) at different traffic speed for downlink and uplink, respectively.
