Summary We prove convergence and error estimates in Sobolev spaces for the collocation method with tensor product splines for strongly elliptic pseudodifferential equations on the torus. Examples of applications include elliptic partial differential equations with periodic boundary conditions but also the classical boundary integral operators of potential theory on torus-shaped domains in three or more dimensions. For odd-degree splines, we prove convergence of nodal collocation for any strongly elliptic operator. For even-degree splines and midpoint collocation, we find an additional condition for the convergence which is satisfied for the classical boundary integral operators. Our analysis is a generalization to higher dimensions of the corresponding analysis of Arnold and Wendland [4].  相似文献

We prove a Meyers type regularity estimate for approximate solutions of second order elliptic equations obtained by P1 finite elements. The proofs rely on interpolation results for Sobolev spaces on graphs. Estimates for second order elliptic operators on rather general graphs are also obtained.  相似文献

Ellipticity of a manifold with edges and boundary is connected to boundary and edge conditions that complete corresponding operators to Fredholm operators between weighted Sobolev spaces. We study a new parameter-dependent calculus of elliptic operators, where the interior symbols have specific properties on the boundary. We construct elliptic operators with a prescribed number of edge conditions and obtain isomorphisms in the scale of edge Sobolev spaces. Error estimates for DGFE solutions are well investigated if one assumes that the exact solution is sufficiently regular. In this article, we consider a Dirichlet and a mixed boundary value problem for a linear elliptic equation in a polygon. It is well known that the first derivatives of the solutions develop singularities near reentrant corner points or points where the boundary conditions change. On the basis of the regularity results formulated in Sobolev–Slobodetskii spaces and weighted spaces of Kondratiev type, we prove error estimates of higher order for DGFE solutions using a suitable graded mesh refinement near boundary singular points. The main tools are as follows: regularity investigation for the exact solution relying on general results for elliptic boundary value problems, error analysis for the interpolation in Sobolev–Slobodetskii spaces, and error estimates for DGFE solutions on special graded refined meshes combined with estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces. Our main result is that there exist a local grading of the mesh and a piecewise interpolation by polynoms of higher degree such that we will get the same order O (hα) of approximation as in the smooth case. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. General second order quasilinear elliptic systems with nonlinear boundary conditions on bounded domains are formulated into nonlinear mappings between Sobolev spaces. It is shown that the linearized mapping is a Fredholm operator of index zero. This and the abstract global bifurcation theorem of [Jacobo Pejsachowicz, Patrick J. Rabier, Degree theory for C1 Fredholm mappings of index 0, J. Anal. Math. 76 (1998) 289-319] allow us to carry out bifurcation analysis directly on these elliptic systems. At the abstract level, we establish a unilateral global bifurcation result that is needed when studying positive solutions. Finally, we supply two examples of cross-diffusion population model and chemotaxis model to demonstrate how the theory can be applied.  相似文献

Using a classical result of Marcinkiewicz and Lizorkin about the Lp-continuity for Fourier multipliers, the authors study the action of a class of pseudodifferential operators with weighted smooth symbol on a family of weighted Sobolev spaces. We develop an abstract theory of unbounded longitudinal pseudodifferential calculus on smooth groupoids (also called Lie groupoids) with compact basis. We analyze these operators as unbounded operators acting on Hilbert modules over C(G), and we show in particular that elliptic operators are regular. We construct a scale of Sobolev modules which are the abstract analogues of the ordinary Sobolev spaces, and analyze their properties. Furthermore, we show that complex powers of positive elliptic pseudodifferential operators are still pseudodifferential operators in a generalized sense.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to some of the properties of uniformly elliptic differential operators with bounded coefficients on manifolds of bounded geometry in L pspaces. We prove the coincidence of minimal and maximal extensions of an operator of a considered type with a positive principal symbol, the existence of holomorphic semigroup, generated by it, and the estimates of L p-norms of the operators of this semigroup. Some spectral properties of such operators in L pspaces are also studied.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the existence of multiple solutions for semi-linear corner-degenerate elliptic equations with subcritical conditions. First, we introduce the corner type weighted p-Sobolev spaces and discuss the properties of continuous embedding, compactness and spectrum. Then, we prove the corner type Sobolev inequality and Poincaré inequality, which are important in the proof of the main result.  相似文献

A variational inequality theory for demicontinuous S-contractive maps in Hilbert spaces is established by employing the ideas of Granas' topological transversality. Such a variational inequality theory has many properties similar to those of fixed point theory for demicontinuous weakly inward S-contractive maps and to those of fixed point index for condensing maps. The variational inequality theory will be applied to study the existence of positive weak solutions and eigenvalue problems for semilinear second-order elliptic inequalities with nonlinearities which satisfy suitable lower bound conditions involving the critical Sobolev exponent. There has been little discussion for such elliptic inequalities involving the critical Sobolev exponent in the literature.  相似文献

In this paper we study boundary value problems for semilinear equations involving strongly degenerate elliptic differential operators. Via a Pohozaev??s type identity we show that if the nonlinear term grows faster than some power function then the boundary value problem has no nontrivial solution. Otherwise when the nonlinear term grows slower than the same power function, by establishing embedding theorems for weighted Sobolev spaces associated with the strongly degenerate elliptic equations, then applying the theory of critical values in Banach spaces, we prove that the problem has a nontrivial solution, or even infinite number of solutions provided that the nonlinear term is an odd function.  相似文献

We study uniformly elliptic fully nonlinear equations of the type F(D2u,Du,u,x)=f(x). We show that convex positively 1-homogeneous operators possess two principal eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, and study these objects; we obtain existence and uniqueness results for nonproper operators whose principal eigenvalues (in some cases, only one of them) are positive; finally, we obtain an existence result for nonproper Isaac's equations.  相似文献

We prove coerciveness with a defect and Fredholmness of nonlocal irregular boundary value problems for second order elliptic differential-operator equations in UMD Banach spaces. Then, we prove coerciveness with a defect in both the space variable and the spectral parameter of the problem with a linear parameter in the equation. The results do not imply maximal L p -regularity in contrast to previously considered regular case. In fact, a counterexample shows that there is no maximal L p -regularity in the irregular case. When studying Fredholmness, the boundary conditions may also contain unbounded operators in perturbation terms. Finally, application to nonlocal irregular boundary value problems for elliptic equations of the second order in cylindrical domains are presented. Equations and boundary conditions may contain differential-integral parts. The spaces of solvability are Sobolev type spaces ${W_{p,q}^{2,2}}$ .  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior of the semilinear Klein-Gordon equation with nonlinearity of fractional order. By the aid of a suitable generalization of the weighted Sobolev spaces we define the weighted Sobolev spaces on the upper branch of the unit hyperboloid. In these spaces of fractional order we obtain a weighted Sobolev embedding and a nonlinear estimate. Using these, we establish the decay estimate of the solution for large time provided the power of nonlinearity is greater than a critical value.  相似文献

Generalized Anti-Wick operators are introduced as a class of pseudodifferential operators which depend on a symbol and two different window functions. Using symbols in Sobolev spaces with negative smoothness and windows in so-called modulation spaces, we derive new conditions for the boundedness on L2 of such operators and for their membership in the Schatten classes. In this paper we investigate the validity and the consequences of the maximum principle for degenerate elliptic operators whose higher order term is the sum of k eigenvalues of the Hessian. In particular we shed some light on some very unusual phenomena due to the degeneracy of the operator. We prove moreover Lipschitz regularity results and boundary estimates under convexity assumptions on the domain. As a consequence we obtain the existence of solutions of the Dirichlet problem and of principal eigenfunctions.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce weighted p-Sobolev spaces on manifolds with edge singularities. We give the proof for the corresponding edge type Sobolev inequality, Poincaré inequality and Hardy inequality. As an application of these inequalities, we prove the existence of nontrivial weak solutions for the Dirichlet problem of semilinear elliptic equations with singular potentials on manifolds with edge singularities.  相似文献
