A new polymer as a selective chelating agent for separation and preconcentration of nickel ions from water samples was prepared by electropolymerisation of 4-nitrophenol. Electrosynthesis was carried out on the lead cathode in aqueous sodium acetate solution. The electrode-product is a dark-brown powder, insoluble in water but soluble in methanol, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and tetrahydrofuran (THF). The electrode-product was characterised by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), FT-IR, 1H-NMR, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and UV-Vis spectrometry. A proper mechanism and structure of the prepared polymer was suggested. A few drops of methanolic solution of electrode-product formed a blue complex with nickel ions in an aqueous medium in the pH range of 6 to 10. This new chelating reagent was used as a coating material on activated charcoal and applied for solid phase extraction of trace amounts of nickel ions from natural and waste waters. The effect of different parameters such as type of eluent, elution conditions, sample volume and sample flow rate and mass of coating material were studied. In the presence of co-existing ions, no significant interferences were observed. Under the optimal conditions, limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.32 and 1 µg L?1 Ni(II), respectively. The proposed method was used for determination of Ni(II) in some lagoons south of the Caspian Sea and waste waters of factories. The validity of this method was confirmed by the comparison of the obtained results with the results of ICP-OES.  相似文献

Biosorption of nickel ions from aqueous solutions by modified loquat bark waste (MLB) has been investigated in a batch biosorption process. The biosorbent MLB was characterized by FTIR analysis. The extent of biosorption of Ni(II) ions was found to be dependent on solution pH, initial nickel ions concentration, biosorbent dose, contact time, and temperature. The experimental equilibrium biosorption data were analyzed by three widely used two-parameters Langmuir, Temkin and Freundlich isotherm models. Langmuir and Temkin isotherm models provided a better fit with the experimental data than Freundlich isotherm model by high correlation coefficients R2. The maximum adsorption capacity was 27.548 mg/g of Ni(II) ions onto MLB. The thermodynamic analysis indicated that the biosorption behavior of nickel ions onto MLB biosorbent was an endothermic process, resulting in higher biosorption capacities at higher temperatures. The negative values of ΔG° (−5.84 kJ/mol) and positive values of ΔH° (13.33 kJ/mol) revealed that the biosorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. Kinetic studies showed that pseudo-second order described well the biosorption experimental data. The modified loquat bark (MLB) was successfully used for the biosorption of nickel ions from synthetic and industrial electroplating effluents.  相似文献

The present study was carried out in a batch system using a lichen (Pseudevernia furfuracea (L.) Zopf) for the sorption of nickel(II) and copper(II) ions from water. Particularly, the effect of pH, contact time and temperature were considered. Pseudevernia furfuracea exhibited nickel(II) and copper(II) uptake of 49.87 and 60.83 mg/g at an initial pH of 4 and 5-6 at 35 degrees C respectively. Both the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models were suitable for describing the biosorption of nickel(II) and copper(II) by the biosorbent. Biosorption showed pseudo first order rate kinetics for nickel and copper ions. Using the equilibrium constant values obtained at 25 and 35 degrees C, the thermodynamics properties of the biosorption (deltaG degrees, deltaH degrees and deltaS degrees) were determined. The biosorption of nickel(II) and copper(II) onto Pseudevernia furfuracea was found to be endothermic.  相似文献

The biosorption of nickel(II) and copper(II) ions from aqueous solution by dried Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) was studied as a function of concentration, pH and temperature. The optimum pH range for nickel and copper uptake was 8.0 and 5.0, respectively. At the optimal conditions, metal ion uptake was increased as the initial metal ion concentration increased up to 250 mg l(-1). At 250 mg l(-1) copper(II) ion uptake was 21.8% whereas nickel(II) ion uptake was found to be as high as 7.3% compared to those reported earlier in the literature. Metal ion uptake experiments were carried out at different temperatures where the best ion uptake was found to be at 25 degrees C. The characteristics of the adsorption process were investigated using Scatchard analysis at 25 degrees C. Scatchard analysis of the equilibrium binding data for metal ions on S. coelicolor A3(2) gave rise to a linear plot, indicating that the Langmuir model could be applied. However, for nickel(II) ion, divergence from the Scatchard plot was evident, consistent with the participation of secondary equilibrium effects in the adsorption process. Adsorption behaviour of nickel(II) and copper(II) ions on the S. coelicolor A3(2) can be expressed by both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption data with respect to both metals provide an excellent fit to the Freundlich isotherm. However, when the Langmuir isotherm model was applied to these data, a good fit was obtained for the copper adsorption only and not for nickel(II) ion.  相似文献

A study on the extraction of copper(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) from solutions containing ions of both metals with N-salicylideneaniline(SAN) in chloroform has been realized. Distribution of the metal ions in wide range of pH has been studied. Extraction of copper(II) was always favored over that of cobalt(II). Extraction of copper(II) from binary metal solution is selective and it can be quantitatively separated from cobalt(II). The equilibrium constant of the extraction of cobalt and nickel from an aqueous solution containing both metals using SAN were evaluated. The separation factors for cobalt and nickel were expressed as a function of the distribution of nickel and cobalt. From these results, salicylideneaniline is an adequate extractant for extractive separation of such mixtures.  相似文献

The polymer supported transition metal complexes of N,N′‐bis (o‐hydroxy acetophenone) hydrazine (HPHZ) Schiff base were prepared by immobilization of N,N′‐bis(4‐amino‐o‐hydroxyacetophenone)hydrazine (AHPHZ) Schiff base on chloromethylated polystyrene beads of a constant degree of crosslinking and then loading iron(III), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions in methanol. The complexation of polymer anchored HPHZ Schiff base with iron(III), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions was 83.30%, 84.20% and 87.80%, respectively, whereas with unsupported HPHZ Schiff base, the complexation of these metal ions was 80.3%, 79.90% and 85.63%. The unsupported and polymer supported metal complexes were characterized for their structures using I.R, UV and elemental analysis. The iron(III) complexes of HPHZ Schiff base were octahedral in geometry, whereas cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes showed square planar structures as supported by UV and magnetic measurements. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of HPHZ Schiff base and its metal complexes was used to analyze the variation in thermal stability of HPHZ Schiff base on complexation with metal ions. The HPHZ Schiff base showed a weight loss of 58% at 500°C, but its iron(III), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions complexes have shown a weight loss of 30%, 52% and 45% at same temperature. The catalytic activity of metal complexes was tested by studying the oxidation of phenol and epoxidation of cyclohexene in presence of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. The supported HPHZ Schiff base complexes of iron(III) ions showed 64.0% conversion for phenol and 81.3% conversion for cyclohexene at a molar ratio of 1∶1∶1 of substrate to catalyst and hydrogen peroxide, but unsupported complexes of iron(III) ions showed 55.5% conversion for phenol and 66.4% conversion for cyclohexene at 1∶1∶1 molar ratio of substrate to catalyst and hydrogen peroxide. The product selectivity for catechol (CTL) and epoxy cyclohexane (ECH) was 90.5% and 96.5% with supported HPHZ Schiff base complexes of iron(III) ions, but was found to be low with cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions complexes of Schiff base. The selectivity for catechol (CTL) and epoxy cyclohexane (ECH) was different with studied metal ions and varied with molar ratio of metal ions in the reaction mixture. The selectivity was constant on varying the molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide and substrate. The energy of activation for epoxidation of cyclohexene and phenol conversion in presence of polymer supported HPHZ Schiff base complexes of iron(III) ions was 8.9 kJ mol?1 and 22.8 kJ mol?1, respectively, but was high with Schiff base complexes of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions and with unsupported Schiff base complexes.  相似文献

Binary complexes of α-hydroxy acids (L-Tartaric acid and L-Malic acid) with d-electron metal ions (copper, cobalt, nickel) were investigated. Potentiometric measurements have been performed in aqueous solution with computer analysis of the data for determination of the stability constants of complexes formed in the studied systems. The coordination mode of the complexes was defined using spectroscopic methods: electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), circular dichroism (CD), and infrared (IR). Results of the equilibrium studies have provided evidence for the formation of dimers with copper(II) ions and monomers with cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions.  相似文献

A reversed phase ion-paired chromatographic method that can be used to determine trace amounts of iron (II,III), nickel (II) and copper (II) was developed and applied to the determination of iron (II) and iron (III) levels in natural water. The separation of these metal ions as their 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (bathophenanthroline) chelates on an Inertsil ODS column was investigated by using acetonitrile-water (80/20, v/v) containing 0.06 M perchloric acid as mobile phase and diode array spectrophotometric detection at 250-650 nm. Chromatographic parameters such as composition of mobile phase and concentration of perchloric acid in mobile phase were optimized. The calibration graphs of iron (II), nickel (II) and copper (II) ions were linear (r > 0.991) in the concentration range 0-0.5, 0-2.0 and 0-4.0 mug ml(-1), respectively. The detection limit of iron (II), nickel (II) and copper (II) were 2.67, 5.42 and 18.2 ng ml(-1) with relative standard deviation (n = 5) of 3.11, 5.81 and 7.16% at a concentration level of 10 ng ml(-1) for iron (II) and nickel (II) and 25 ng ml(-1) for copper (II), respectively. The proposed method was applied to the determination of iron(II) and iron(III) in tap water and sea water samples without any interference from other common metal ions.  相似文献

An ion imprinted silica sorbent was prepared using a sol–gel process for selective extraction of Ni(II) ions from water samples. Bis(dibenzoylmethanto)nickel(II) complex was used as template; phenyltrimethoxysilane and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as functional monomers and tetraethylorthosilicate as reticulating agent. The material was packed in solid-phase extraction (SPE) column. The effect of sampling volume, elution conditions, sample pH and sample flow rate on the extraction of Ni ions from water samples were studied. The relative selectivity coefficients of imprinted sorbent for Ni(II)/Co(II), Ni(II)/Cu(II) and Ni(II)/Cd(II) were 23.7, 30.3 and 24.4, times greater than non-imprinted sorbent, respectively. The relative standard deviation of the eight replicate determinations of Ni(II) was 4.2%. The detection limit was 0.9 µg L?1 using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The developed method was successfully applied to the determination of trace nickel in water samples.  相似文献

A convenient and efficient method for the estimation of cobalt(II) ions in the presence of other metal ions is described. Interference of metal ions such as iron(II), iron(III), nickel(II), manganese(II), and copper(II) have been investigated. Only iron(III) ions seriously affect this determination. Copper(II) and nickel(II) ions do not interfere if present in a molar-ratio less than 1:2 in the cobalt(II) ion solution. Cobalt(II)-nickel(II) and cobalt(II)-copper(II) binary mixtures can be efficiently analyzed at selective wavelengths.  相似文献

Three types of agricultural waste, citrus maxima peel (CM), passion fruit shell (PF) and sugarcane bagasse (SB), were used to produce biosorbents for removing the heavy metal ions of copper(II), cadmium(II), nickel(II) and lead(II) from a pH 5.0 solution. The properties of biosorbents were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), zeta potential analyzer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, elemental analyzer and tests of cation exchange capacity (CEC). The result indicated that the selected biosorbents possess rich carboxyl (COOH) and hydroxyl (OH) groups to produce a complexation with the heavy metals. Moreover, the negative surface charge of the biosorbent might adsorb the metal ions through the ion exchange. All of the adsorption isotherms indicated that L-type characters represented complexation and ion exchanges that were the adsorption mechanisms of biosorbents toward heavy metals. Biosorbents with higher oxygen content might generate high adsorption capacities. The adsorption capacities of CM and PF, estimated from the fitting to the Langmuir isotherm, are similar to those reported by others regarding biosorbents.  相似文献

A sensitive and simple method has been established for simultaneous preconcentration of trace amounts of Pb (II) and Ni (II) ions in water samples prior to their determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. This method was based on the using of a micro-column filled with graphene oxide as an adsorbent. The influences of various analytical parameters such as solution pH, adsorbent amount, eluent type and volume, flow rates of sample and eluent, and matrix ions on the recoveries of the metal ions were investigated. Using the optimum conditions, the calibration graphs were linear in the range of 7–260 and 5–85 μg L?1 with detection limits (3Sb) of 2.1 and 1.4 μg L?1 for lead and nickel ions, respectively. The relative standard deviation for 10 replicate determinations of 50 μg L?1 of lead and nickel ions were 4.1% and 3.8%, respectively. The preconcentration factors were 102.5 and 95 for lead and nickel ions, respectively. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent was also determined. The method was successfully applied to determine the trace amounts of Pb (II) and Ni (II) ions in real water samples. The validation of the method was also performed by the standard reference material.  相似文献

Summary Potassium nickel hexacyanoferrate composite with magnetite finds application in the recovery of cesium from low-level liquid waste using magnetic assistance. The apparent sorption capability of hexacyanoferrate-magnetite composite and potassium nickel(II) hexacyanoferrate(II) matched indicating no loss in sorption capability as a consequence of coating to nanoscale magnetite substrate. Selectivity for cesium in a broad pH range, selectivity in the presence of high concentration of sodium nitrate, and fast exchange kinetics are additional features of the nanocomposites.  相似文献

A rapid flotation method for separation and enrichment of ultra trace amounts of copper(II), cadmium(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions from water samples is established. At pH 6.5 and with sodium dodecylsulfate used as a foaming reagent, Cu2+, Cd2+, Ni2+ and Co2+ were separated simultaneously with 2-aminocyclopentene-1-dithiocarboxylic acid (ACDA) added to 1 l of aqueous solution. The proposed procedure of preconcentration is applied prior to the determination of these four analytes using inductivity coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The effects of pH, concentration of ACDA, applicability of different surfactants and foreign ions on the separation efficiency were investigated. The preconcentration factor of the method is 1000 and the detection limits of copper(II), cadmium(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions are 0.078, 0.075, 0.072 and 0.080 ng ml(-1), respectively.  相似文献

This paper proposes a preconcentration procedure for determination of nickel in saline aqueous waste samples by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). It is based on cloud-point extraction of nickel(II) ions as 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethilaminophenol (Br-PADAP) complexes using octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol (Triton X-114) as surfactant. The optimisation step was performed using a four-variable Doehlert design, involving the factors centrifugation time (CT) of system after addition of surfactant, solution pH, methanol volume (MV) added at micellar phase, and buffer concentration (BC). The analytical response used was absorbance, after volume correction. Using the established experimental conditions in the optimisation step the procedure enables nickel determination with a detection limit (3 delta/ S) of 0.2 microg L(-1), quantification limit (10 delta/ S) of 0.7 microg L(-1), and precision, calculated as relative standard deviation ( RSD) of 4.7 ( n=8) and 3.5% ( n=8) for nickel concentration of 1 and 5 microg L(-1), respectively. The preconcentration factor, determined from the ratio of the slopes of the analytical curves with and without preconcentration, is 74. The recovery achieved for nickel determination in the presence of several cations demonstrated that this procedure could be applied for analysis of water samples. The robustness was checked by using saturated fractional factorial designs, centred on the established experimental conditions in the optimisation step. The results of these tests demonstrated that the variables centrifugation time and buffer concentration are robust for modification by 10% and that solution pH and methanol volume are robust for 5%. Accuracy was evaluated by using the certified material reference SLEW-3 estuarine water for trace metals. The procedure was used for determination of nickel in saline effluents from oil refinery samples. Recovery results (95-104%) indicate that the procedure has satisfactory accuracy for nickel determination in these samples.  相似文献

A mechanism of joint electroreduction of nickel(II) and iron(II) ions is proposed and experimentally substantiated. The mechanism is based on the hypothesis that nickel and iron hydroxo complexes are discharged on common active sites formed as a result of electrochemical adsorption of nickel hydroxo complexes. The analysis of kinetic equations derived for partial current densities of the evolution of iron and nickel to form the alloy shows that the kinetics of these processes is determined by the concentration of ions of both types. It is shown that at the joint deposition of nickel and iron, the rate constant for iron(II) electroreduction exceeds the rate constant for nickel(II) electroreduction and this predetermines the enrichment of the resulting alloy with the more electronegative component.  相似文献
