This paper describes the spontaneous vesicular assembly of a naphthalene–diimide (NDI)‐based non‐ionic bolaamphiphile in aqueous medium by using the synergistic effects of π‐stacking and hydrogen bonding. Site isolation of the hydrogen‐bonding functionality (hydrazide), a strategy that has been adopted so elegantly in nature, has been executed in this system to protect these moieties from the bulk water so that the distinct role of hydrogen bonding in the self‐assembly of hydrazide‐functionalized NDI building blocks could be realized, even in aqueous solution. Furthermore, the electron‐deficient NDI‐based bolaamphiphile could engage in donor–acceptor (D–A) charge‐transfer (CT) interactions with a water‐insoluble electron‐rich pyrene donor by virtue of intercalation of the latter chromophore in between two NDI building blocks. Remarkably, even when pyrene was located between two NDI blocks, intermolecular hydrogen‐bonding networks between the NDI‐linked hydrazide groups could be retained. However, time‐dependent AFM studies revealed that the radius of curvature of the alternately stacked D–A assembly increased significantly, thereby leading to intervesicular fusion, which eventually resulted in rupturing of the membrane to form 1D fibers. Such 2D‐to‐1D morphological transition produced CT‐mediated hydrogels at relatively higher concentrations. Instead of pyrene, when a water‐soluble carboxylate‐functionalized pyrene derivative was used as the intercalator, non‐covalent tunable in‐situ surface‐functionalization could be achieved, as evidenced by the zeta‐potential measurements.  相似文献

A “chirality driven self‐sorting” strategy is introduced for the controlled supramolecular organization of donor (D) and acceptor (A) molecules in multicomponent assemblies. The trans‐1,2‐bis(amido)cyclohexane (trans‐BAC) has been identified as a supramolecular motif with strong homochiral recognition to direct this chirality controlled assembly process of enantiomers in solution. Stereoselective supramolecular polymerization of trans‐BAC appended naphthalene diimide monomers (NDIs) has been probed in detail by spectroscopic and mechanistic investigations. This chirality‐driven self‐sorting design of enantiomeric components also offers to realize mixed and segregated D‐A stacks by supramolecular co‐assembly of the NDI acceptors with trans‐BAC appended dialkoxynaphthalene (DAN) donor monomers. Such an unprecedented chirality control on D‐A organization paves the way for the creation of supramolecular p‐n nanostructures with controlled molecular‐level organization.  相似文献

Modified 3,5‐dipyrrolylpyrazole (DPP) derivatives in their protonated form produce planar [2+2]‐type complexes with trifluoroacetate (TFA) ions. These complexes serve as constituent components of ion‐pair‐based assemblies. An essential strategy for the construction of dimension‐controlled organized structures based on these [2+2]‐type complexes is the introduction of aryl rings bearing long alkyl chains, which enables the formation of 2D patterns at interfaces, supramolecular gels, and mesophases.  相似文献

This paper reports comprehensive studies on the mixed assembly of bis‐(trialkoxybenzamide)‐functionalized dialkoxynaphthalene (DAN) donors and naphthalene‐diimide (NDI) acceptors due the cooperative effects of hydrogen bonding, charge‐transfer (CT) interactions, and solvophobic effects. A series of DAN as well as NDI building blocks have been examined (wherein the relative distance between the two amide groups in a particular chromophore is the variable structural parameter) to understand the structure‐dependent variation in mode of supramolecular assembly and morphology (organogel, reverse vesicle, etc.) of the self‐assembled material. Interestingly, it was observed that when the amide functionalities are introduced to enhance the self‐assembly propensity, the mode of co‐assembly among the DAN and NDI chromophores no longer remained trivial and was dictated by a relatively stronger hydrogen‐bonding interaction instead of a weak CT interaction. Consequently, in a highly non‐polar solvent like methylcyclohexane (MCH), although kinetically controlled CT‐gelation was initially noticed, within a few hours the system sacrificed the CT‐interaction and switched over to the more stable self‐sorted gel to maximize the gain in enthalpy from the hydrogen‐bonding interaction. In contrast, in a relatively less non‐polar solvent such as tetrachloroethylene (TCE), in which the strength of hydrogen bonding is inherently weak, the contribution of the CT interaction also had to be accounted for along with hydrogen bonding leading to a stable CT‐state in the gel or solution phase. The stability and morphology of the CT complex and rate of supramolecular switching (from CT to segregated state) were found to be greatly influenced by subtle structural variation of the building blocks, solvent polarity, and the DAN/NDI ratio. For example, in a given D–A pair, by introducing just one methylene unit in the spacer segment of either of the building blocks a complete change in the mode of co‐assembly (CT state or segregated state) and the morphology (1D fiber to 2D reverse vesicle) was observed. The role of solvent polarity, structural variation, and D/A ratio on the nature of co‐assembly, morphology, and the unprecedented supramolecular‐switching phenomenon have been studied by detail spectroscopic and microscopic experiments in a gel as well as in the solution state and are well supported by DFT calculations.  相似文献

A series of iridium‐ and rhodium‐based hexanuclear organometallic cages containing 2,5‐dichloro‐3,6‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐benzoquinone, 9,10‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐anthraquinone, and 6,11‐dihydroxynaphthacene‐5,12‐dione ligands were synthesized from the self‐assembly of the corresponding molecular “clips” and 2,4,6‐tri(4‐pyridyl)‐1,3,5‐triazine ligands in good yields. These organometallic cages can form inclusion systems with a wide variety of π‐donor substrates, including coronene, pyrene, [Pt(acac)2], and hexamethoxytriphenylene. The 1:1 complexation of the resulting supramolecular assemblies was confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Large complexation shifts (Δδ>1 ppm) were observed in the 1H NMR spectra of guests in the presence of cage [Cp*6M6(μ‐DHNA)3(tpt)2](OTf)6 ( 6a ; M=Ir, tpt=2,4,6‐tri(4‐pyridyl)‐1,3,5‐triazine). The formation of discrete 1:1 donor–acceptor complexes, pyrene ?6 b (M=Rh), coronene ?6 a , coronene ?6 b , and [Pt(acac)2] ?6 a was confirmed by their single‐crystal X‐ray analyses. In these systems, the most important driving force for the formation of guest–host complexes is clearly the donor–acceptor π???π stacking interaction, including charge‐transfer interactions between the electron‐donating and electron‐accepting aromatic components. These structures provide compelling evidence for the existence of strong attractive forces between the electron‐deficient triazine core and electron‐rich guest. The results presented here may provide useful guidance for designing artificial receptors for functional biomolecules.  相似文献

A charge transfer (CT) mediated two‐component, multistimuli responsive supergelation involving a L ‐histidine‐appended pyrenyl derivative (PyHisOMe) as a donor and an asymmetric bolaamphiphilic naphthalene‐diimide (Asym‐NDI) derivative as an acceptor in a 2:1 mixture of H2O/MeOH was investigated. Asym‐NDI alone self‐assembled into pH‐responsive vesicular nanostructures in water. Excellent selectivity in CT gel formation was achieved in terms of choosing amino acid appended pyrenyl donor scaffolds. Circular dichroism and morphological studies suggested formation of chiral, interconnected vesicular assemblies resembling “pearls‐on‐a‐string” from these CT mixed stacks. XRD studies revealed the formation of monolayer lipid membranes from these CT mixed stacks that eventually led to the formation of individual vesicles. Strong cohesive forces among the interconnected vesicles originate from the protrusion of the oxyethylene chains from the surfaces of the chiral vesicles.  相似文献

Despite the remarkable progress made in controllable self‐assembly of stimuli‐responsive supramolecular polymers (SSPs), a basic issue that has not been consideration to date is the essential binding site. The noncovalent binding sites, which connect the building blocks and endow supramolecular polymers with their ability to respond to stimuli, are expected to strongly affect the self‐assembly of SSPs. Herein, the design and synthesis of a dual‐stimuli thermo‐ and photoresponsive Y‐shaped supramolecular polymer (SSP2) with two adjacent β‐cyclodextrin/azobenzene (β‐CD/Azo) binding sites, and another SSP (SSP1) with similar building blocks, but only one β‐CD/Azo binding site as a control, are described. Upon gradually increasing the polymer solution temperature or irradiating with UV light, SSP2 self‐assemblies with a higher binding‐site distribution density; exhibits a flower‐like morphology, smaller size, and more stable dynamic aggregation process; and greater controllability for drug‐release behavior than those observed with SSP1 self‐assemblies. The host–guest binding‐site‐tunable self‐assembly was attributed to the positive cooperativity generated among adjacent binding sites on the surfaces of SSP2 self‐assemblies. This work is beneficial for precisely controlling the structural parameters and controlled release function of SSP self‐assemblies.  相似文献

A synergistically directed assembly approach to distinctive metal‐organic frameworks utilizing both donor‐acceptor (D‐A) interaction from aromatic systems and coordination interactions is presented. Based on such an approach, the coronene‐tpt (tpt = 2,4,6‐tri(4‐pyridyl)‐1,3,5‐triazine) stacks based coronene‐MOF‐1 — 4 have been successfully fabricated. Their structural discrepancies with coronene‐ absent control products, 1′ — 4′ , illustrate clearly the significance of coronene‐tpt based D‐A interactions in these architectures. All these coronene‐MOFs contain varied coronene‐tpt stacks as organic secondary building blocks (SBUs), which are closely interrelated with the coordination based framework structures. Moreover, porous coronene‐MOF‐1 and ‐2 exhibit high physicochemical stability and significant light hydrocarbons storage and separation performances.  相似文献

Two typical types of luminescent organic cocrystals comprising pyrene–octafluoronaphthalene (pyrene–OFN) and pyrene–1,2,4,5‐tetracyanobezene (pyrene–TCNB) were developed by a simple supramolecular assembly strategy. The cocrystals exhibit distinct optical properties because of their different intermolecular interaction modes; that is, arene–perfluoroarene (AP) and charge‐transfer (CT) interactions. Unexpectedly, a pyrene–TCNB system with strong CT interactions was incorporated into a pyrene–OFN host as a robust guest to generate white‐light emission (WLE). In the supramolecular cocrystal system, an efficient energy‐transfer process from pyrene–OFN to pyrene–TCNB occurred because of the well‐matched spectra of the constituents and a desirable energy donor/acceptor (D/A) distance. The present competitive intermolecular interaction strategy could be applied to the fabrication of more complicated organic light‐harvesting systems.  相似文献

A novel supramolecular clipping design for influencing the photophysical properties of functional molecular assemblies, by the preorganization (clipping) of chromophores, is described. Several chromophores end functionalized with molecular recognition units were designed. These molecular recognition units serve as handles to appropriately position these systems upon noncovalent interactions with multivalent guest molecules (supramolecular clippers). Towards this goal, we have synthesized 1,5‐dialkoxynaphthalene (DAN) and naphthalenediimide (NDI) functionalized with dipicolylethylenediamine (DPA) motifs. These molecules could preorganize upon noncovalent clipping with adenosine di‐ or triphosphates, which resulted in preassociated excimers and mixed (cofacial) charge‐transfer (CT) assemblies. Chiral guest binding could also induce supramolecular chirality, not only into the individual chromophoric assembly but also into the heteromeric CT organization, as seen from the strong circular dichroism (CD) signal of the CT transition. The unique ability of this design to influence the intermolecular interactions by changing the binding strength of the clippers furthermore makes it very attractive for controlling the bimolecular photophysical processes.  相似文献

The molecular‐level motions of a coronene‐based supramolecular rotator are amplified into macroscopic changes of crystals by co‐assembly of coronene and TCNB (1,2,4,5‐tetracyanobenzene) into a charge‐transfer complex. The as‐prepared cocrystals show remarkable self‐healing behavior and thermo‐mechanical responses during thermally‐induced reversible single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal (SCSC) phase transitions. Comprehensive analysis of the microscopic observations as well as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements and crystal habits reveal that a thermally‐reduced‐rate‐dependent dynamic character exists in the phase transition. The crystallographic studies show that the global similarity of the packing patterns of both phases with local differences, such as molecular stacking sequence and orientations, should be the origin of the self‐healing behavior of these crystals.  相似文献

A practicable strategy to rationally obtain the reversible mechanochromic luminescent (MCL) material with high‐contrast ratio (green versus red) has been established. By introducing a volatile third party (small‐sized solvent molecules) into the lattice of charge transfer (CT) cocrystal of mixed‐stacking 1:1 coronene (Cor.) and napthalenetetracarboxylic diimide (NDI), a noteworthy reconfigurable molecular assembly is ingeniously achieved owing to the loosely packing arrangement as well as weakened intermolecular interactions. Accordingly, the CT excited state, strongly corresponding to the molecular stacking modes, can be intentionally tailored through external stimulus (heating, grinding, or solvent), accompanying distinct changes in photophysical properties. Subsequently, a high‐contrast reversible MCL with highly sensitive and good reproducibility is realized and the underlying mechanism is thoroughly revealed.  相似文献

Construction of discrete, self‐assembled architectures in water has gained significant interest in recent years as a wide range of applications arises from their defined 3D structure. In this review we jointly discuss the efforts of supramolecular chemists and biotechnologists who previously worked independently, to tackle discipline‐specific challenges associated with construction of assemblies from synthetic and bio‐derived components, respectively. Going forward, a more interdisciplinary research approach will expedite development of complexes with real‐world applications that exploit the benefits of compartmentalisation. In support of this, we summarise advances made in the development of discrete, water‐soluble assemblies, with particular focus on their current and prospective applications. Areas where understanding and methodologies can be transferred from one sector to the adjacent field are highlighted in anticipation this will yield advances not possible from either field alone.  相似文献

Rational design of organic 2D (O2D) materials has made some progress, but it is still in its infancy. A class of self‐assembling small molecules is presented that form nano/microscale supramolecular 2D materials in aqueous media. A judicial combination of four different intermolecular interactions forms the basis for the robust formation of these ultrathin assemblies. These assemblies can be programmed to disassemble in response to a specific protein and release its non‐covalently bound guest molecules.  相似文献

A unique supramolecular strategy enables the unidirectional assembly of two bola‐shaped unsymmetric π‐amphiphiles, NDI‐1 and NDI‐2, which feature a naphthalene–diimide chromophore connected to nonionic and anionic head groups on opposite arms. The amphiphiles differ only in the location of a hydrazide group, which is placed either on the nonionic or on the anionic arm of NDI‐1 and NDI‐2, respectively. The formation of hydrogen bonds between the hydrazides, which compensates for electrostatic and steric factors, promotes unidirectional alignment and the formation of monolayer vesicles. The zeta potentials and cation‐assisted quantitative precipitation reveal negatively charged and nonionic outer surfaces for NDI‐1 and NDI‐2, respectively, indicating that hydrogen bonding also dictates the directionality of the monolayer curvature, ensuring that in both cases, the hydrazides remain at the inner wall to benefit from stronger hydrogen bonding where they are in closer proximity. This is reflected in their different abilities to inhibit α‐chymotrypsin, which possesses a positively charged surface: NDI‐1 induced an inhibition of 80 % whereas hardly any inhibition was observed with NDI‐2.  相似文献

The cation–π interaction is a strong non‐covalent interaction that can be used to prepare high‐strength, stable supramolecular materials. However, because the molecular plane of a cation‐containing group and that of aromatic structure are usually perpendicular when forming a cation–π complex, it is difficult to exploit the cation–π interaction to prepare a 2D self‐assembly in which the molecular plane of all the building blocks are parallel. Herein, a double cation–π‐driven strategy is proposed to overcome this difficulty and have prepared 2D self‐assemblies with long‐range ordered molecular hollow hexagons. The double cation–π interaction makes the 2D self‐assemblies stable. The 2D self‐assemblies are to be an effective carrier that can eliminate metal‐nanoparticle aggregation. Such 2D assembly/palladium nanoparticle hybrids are shown to exhibit recyclability and superior catalytic activity for a model reaction.  相似文献

Two n‐type conjugated D‐A copolymers, P(TVT‐NDI) and P(FVF‐NDI) with thienylene‐vinylene‐thienylene (TVT) or furanylene‐vinylene‐furanylene (FVF) as donor (D) units and naphthalene diimide (NDI) as the acceptor (A) units, were synthesized by the Stille coupling copolymerization. The two polymers possess good solubility, high thermal stability, and broad absorption bands with absorption edges at 866 nm for P(TVT‐NDI) and 886 nm for P(FVF‐NDI) . The LUMO energy levels of P(TVT‐NDI) and P(FVF‐NDI) are ?3.80 eV and ?3.76 eV respectively, so the two polymers are suitable for the application as acceptor in blending with most polymer donor in PSCs based on the energy level matching point of view. All polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs) were fabricated with P(TVT‐NDI) or P(FVF‐NDI) as acceptor and medium bandgap polymer J51 as donor for investigating the photovoltaic performance of the two n‐type conjugated polymer acceptors. And higher power conversion efficiency of 6.43% for P(TVT‐NDI) and 5.21% for P(FVF‐NDI) was obtained. The results indicate that arylenevinylenearylene–naphthalene diimide copolymer are promising polymer acceptor for all–PSCs. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. We report the synthesis and characterization of a three‐dimensional tetraphenylethene‐based octacationic cage that shows host–guest recognition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g. coronene) in organic media and water‐soluble dyes (e.g. sulforhodamine 101) in aqueous media through CH???π, π–π, and/or electrostatic interactions. The cage?coronene exhibits a cuboid internal cavity with a size of approximately 17.2×11.0×6.96 Å3 and a “hamburger”‐type host–guest complex, which is hierarchically stacked into 1D nanotubes and a 3D supramolecular framework. The free cage possesses a similar cavity in the crystalline state. Furthermore, a host–guest complex formed between the octacationic cage and sulforhodamine 101 had a higher absolute quantum yield (ΦF=28.5 %), larger excitation–emission gap (Δλex‐em=211 nm), and longer emission lifetime (τ=7.0 ns) as compared to the guest (ΦF=10.5 %; Δλex‐em=11 nm; τ=4.9 ns), and purer emission (ΔλFWHM=38 nm) as compared to the host (ΔλFWHM=111 nm).  相似文献

Owing to its unique structural, electronic, spectroscopic, and redox properties, naphthalenediimide (NDI) is a versatile building block for the construction of a wide variety of supramolecular assemblies with diverse structures, properties, and functions. In this Minireview, the synthesis of topologically nontrivial molecular links and knots based on naphthalenediimide‐derived building blocks will be discussed. In particular, the supramolecular forces that contribute to the formation of these molecular links and knots and their interactions will be discussed.  相似文献

Obtaining unambiguous resonance assignments remains a major bottleneck in solid‐state NMR studies of protein structure and dynamics. Particularly for supramolecular assemblies with large subunits (>150 residues), the analysis of crowded spectral data presents a challenge, even if three‐dimensional (3D) spectra are used. Here, we present a proton‐detected 4D solid‐state NMR assignment procedure that is tailored for large assemblies. The key to recording 4D spectra with three indirect carbon or nitrogen dimensions with their inherently large chemical shift dispersion lies in the use of sparse non‐uniform sampling (as low as 2 %). As a proof of principle, we acquired 4D (H)COCANH, (H)CACONH, and (H)CBCANH spectra of the 20 kDa bacteriophage tail‐tube protein gp17.1 in a total time of two and a half weeks. These spectra were sufficient to obtain complete resonance assignments in a straightforward manner without use of previous solution NMR data.  相似文献
