Using Voiculescu's notion of a matricial microstate we introduce fractal dimensions and entropies for finite sets of selfadjoint operators in a tracial von Neumann algebra. We show that they possess properties similar to their classical predecessors. We relate the new quantities to free entropy and free entropy dimension and show that a modified version of free Hausdorff dimension is an algebraic invariant. We compute the free Hausdorff dimension in the cases where the set generates a finite-dimensional algebra or where the set consists of a single selfadjoint. We show that the Hausdorff dimension becomes additive for such sets in the presence of freeness.  相似文献

In this paper we define for every totally convex space a suitable topology, the radial topology. We prove that a morphism in the category TCsep of separated totally convex spaces is an epimorphism if and only if its image is dense in the radial topology, and that TCsep is the full subcategory of TC generated by its Hausdorff objects. These results remain valid for finitely totally convex spaces when the radial topology is replaced by the distance-radial topology.Dedicated to Karl Stein  相似文献

We define Sobolev space W 1,p for 1<p on an arbitrary metric space with finite diameter and equipped with finite, positive Borel measure. In the Euclidean case it coincides with standard Sobolev space. Several classical imbedding theorems are special cases of general results which hold in the metric case. We show that in any nontrivial Nakano space X=Lp(·) (Ω, Σ, μ) with essentially bounded random exponent function p(·), the range Y = R(P) of a positive contractive projection P is itself representable as a Nakano space LpY(·) (ΩY ΣY, νY), for a certain measurable set YΩ⊆Ω (the support of the range), a certain sub-sigma ring YΣ⊆Σ (with maximal element ΩY) naturally determined by the lattice structure of Y, and a semi-finite measure νY, namely the restriction of some measure Ω on E which is equivalent to μ. Furthermore, we show that the random exponent pY(·) associated with such a range can be taken to be the restriction to ΩY of the random exponent p(·) (this restriction turns out to be ΣY-measurable). As an application of this result, we find Banach lattice isometric characterizations of suitable classes of Nakano spaces. These classes are defined in terms of an important lattice-isometric invariant of Nakano spaces, the essential range of the variable exponent.  相似文献

We prove that it is possible for two uniform algebras to have the same scalar interpolating sets, yet still have different matrix-valued interpolating sets.We prove a result for tensor products of uniform algebras that extends Agler's interpolation formula for the bidisk to more general product domains. This is accomplished by introducing a dual object for interpolation problems, which we call a Schur ideal, and proving that the Schur ideal for a tensor product is the intersection of the corresponding Schur ideals.Research supported in part by a grant from the NSF  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to study precompactness and compactness within the framework of asymmetric locally convex spaces, defined and studied by the author in [S. Cobza?, Asymmetric locally convex spaces, Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. 2005 (16) (2005) 2585-2608]. The obtained results extend some results on compactness in asymmetric normed spaces proved by [L.M. The notion of Aronszajn-null sets generalizes the notion of Lebesgue measure zero in the Euclidean space to infinite dimensional Banach spaces. We present a game-theoretic approach to Aronszajn-null sets, establish its basic properties, and discuss some ensuing open problems.  相似文献

Let (H,J) be a Krein space with selfadjoint involution J. Starting with a canonical representation of a J-selfadjoint projection, J-projection in short, as the sum of a J-positive projection and a J-negative one we study in detail the structure of a regular subspace, that is, the range of a J-projection. We treat the problem when the sum of two regular subspaces is again regular. We also treat the problem when the closure of the range of the product of a J-contraction and a J-expansion becomes regular.  相似文献

Some weakenings of property (K) of Antosik for locally convex spaces are introduced: local property (K) and, for spaces with Schauder-type decompositions, two variants of property (K) defined in terms of block- and tail-sequences. It is shown that if a space enjoys any of these new properties, then it is Banach-Mackey. An application to the barrelledness of the spaces of Pettis integrable functions is given, and examples are provided to distinguish between the various K-type properties.  相似文献
