We study the transverse elastic waves propagating in 6-mm class hexagonal crystals forming Fibonacci superlattices. These are formed by repetitions of CdS and ZnO slabs in A and B constituent blocks following the Fibonacci sequence. We study the periodic superlattices formed by the infinite repetition of a given Fibonacci generation together with the finite Fibonacci generations having stress-free surfaces, in order to compare the effects introduced by the different boundary conditions. We have also considered the effects of piezoelectricity when all the interfaces are metallized and kept at a fixed potential. We use the surface Green function matching method forNnonequivalent interfaces to obtain the dispersion relations and the density of states of these systems. We have studied the influence of the increasing order of the Fibonacci generations on the dispersion relation of the transverse elastic modes. The Fibonacci spectrum is clearly seen even for low-order Fibonacci generations and is almost not modified by the piezoelectric coupling when the interfaces are metallized. 相似文献

Abstract We consider the statistics of the transverse spectra of forward-propagating waves in a stationary random medium. A short-range perturbation solution is used to derive the difference equations that govern the long-range evolution of the ensemble-averaged transverse wave spectrum and coherence. The conditions under which these equations may be approximated by differential and integro-differential equations are given, and it is shown that the approximation is valid for the treatment of beam propagation provided that the transverse dimension of the beam is sufficiently large, and at ranges where the transverse coherence length of the beam remains larger than a wavelength. The equations that are derived are not limited by the parabolic approximation, and are amenable to numerical solution by marching techniques. We use the equation that governs the spectral density of the total energy flux, and also the propagation of waves which are statistically homogeneous in transverse planes, to show the conditions under which previously studied approximations derive from the present formulation, and to illustrate the numerical solution of the problem. 相似文献

Small-angle scattering due to mirror surface roughness is shown to couple the optical modes and deform the transmission spectra in a frequency-degenerate optical cavity. A simple model based on a random scattering matrix clearly visualizes the mixing and avoided crossings between multiple transverse modes. These effects are visible only in the frequency-domain spectra; cavity ringdown experiments are unaffected by changes in the spatial coherence, as they probe just the intracavity photon lifetime. 相似文献

The letter presents numerical data and gives an explanation for the spontaneous creation of spatial patterns in narrow-ridge waveguide laser diodes by including the effect of diffraction and non-linear coupling between transverse modes and the active material. Spiral waves that arise in period-2 oscillatory media extended in space generically bear "line defects" along which the local kinetics exhibits a period-1 oscillation. Locally, these defect structures can be viewed as a front separating two period-2 oscillatory domains oscillating 2pi out of phase. Here we show that their shape can become sinusoidal with a transverse instability as in bistable fronts. This instability eventually leads to a line-defect filled spatiotemporal chaotic state having erratic proliferations, annihilations, and regenerations of line defects. The same sequence of phenomena is observed in a model reaction-diffusion system as well as in an experimental system. 相似文献

The linear stability of planar solitary waves with respect to long-wavelength transverse perturbations is studied in the framework of the generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. It is newly discovered that for some nonlinearities in this family, the solitary waves could be transversely unstable even in a medium with negative dispersion. The transverse instability of a plane front of fast impact ionization waves in p +-n-n + semiconductor structures with a finite concentration of donors N in the n layer has been theoretically analyzed. It is assumed that the high velocity u of impact ionization waves is ensured owing to the avalanche multiplication of the uniform background of electrons and holes whose concentration ??b ahead of the front is high enough for the continuum approximation to be applicable. The problem of the calculation of the growth rate s of a small harmonic perturbation with wavenumber k is reduced to the eigenvalue problem for a specific homogeneous Volterra equation of the second kind containing the sum of double and triple integrals of an unknown eigenfunction. This problem has been solved by the method of successive approximations. It has been shown that the function s(k) for small k values increases monotonically in agreement with the analytical theory reported in Thermal Engineering 58 (13), 1119 (2011), reaches a maximum s M at k = k M, then decreases, and becomes negative at k > k 01. This behavior of the function s(k) for short-wavelength perturbations is due to a decrease in the distortion of the field owing to a finite thickness of the space charge region of the front and ??smearing?? of perturbation of concentrations owing to the transverse transport of charge carriers. The similarity laws for perturbations with k ? k M have been established: at fixed ??b values and the maximum field strength on the front E 0M, the growth rate s depends only on the ratio k/N and the boundary wavenumber k 01 ?? N. The parameters s M, k M, and k 01, which determine the perturbation growth dynamics and the upper boundary of the instability region for impact ionization waves, have been presented as functions of E 0M. These dependences indicate that the model of a plane impact ionization wave is insufficient for describing the operation of avalanche voltage sharpers and that fronts of fast streamers in the continuum approximation should be stable with respect to transverse perturbations in agreement with the previously reported numerical simulation results. The results have been confirmed by the numerical simulation of the evolution of small harmonic perturbations of the steady-state plane impact ionization wave. 相似文献

It is shown that within the manifold of exact solutions a system of reaction-diffusion equations admits only travelling waves with planar symmetry. A derivation of the generic form of approximate (asymptotic) cylindrical and spiral travelling periodic wave solutions is given. If an exact solution homogeneous in space and periodic in time is admitted by the system of reaction-diffusion equations, then travelling periodic spiral waves are admissble as approximate solutions.
