We have studied work fluctuation behaviour in the presence of internal thermal noise as well as external coloured noise. The external coloured noise may have both Gaussian or non-Gaussian characteristics. We have investigated the dependence of position and work fluctuations on the properties of both the environments. For thermal noise driven systems, there is a maximum in the variation of mean square fluctuation of work (MSFW) as a function of damping strength at intermediate times, while at asymptotic long times MSFW monotonically increases in the same damping regime. But for external noise, MSFW monotonically decreases as a function of damping strength at intermediate times, whereas at long times it becomes almost independent of damping strength.Another interesting observation is that for the external noise driven systems, noise correlation time and damping strength have similar roles in the dynamics.  相似文献

In this review we investigate the rotation effect in the motion of coupled dimer in a two-dimensional asymmetric periodic potential. Free rotation does not generate directed transport in translational direction, while we find it plays an critical role in the motors motility when the dimer moves under the effect of asymmetry ratchet potential. In the presence of external force, we study the relation between the average current and the force numerically and theoretically. The numerical results show that only appropriate driving force could produce nonzero current and there are current transitions when the force is large enough. An analysis of stability analysis of limit cycles is applied to explain the occurrence of these transitions. Moreover, we numerically simulate the transport of this coupled dimer driven by the random fluctuations in the rotational direction. The existence of noise smooths the current transitions induced by the driving force and the resonance-like peaks which depend on the rod length emerge in small noise strength. Thanks to the noise in the rotational direction, autonomous motion emerges without the external force and large noise could make the current reversal happen. Eventually, the new mechanism to generate directed transport by the rotation is studied.  相似文献

The role of barrier fluctuations in membrane enzymatic processes, in particular in the active transport of ions through cell membranes, is examined. For enzymes embedded in the cell membrane the role of the barrier height (activation energy) is played by the membrane electric potential. This barrier height can be modulated either by internal fluctuations or by external electrical fields, either random or periodic. Existing experimental data on active transport of Na(+) and Rb(+) in human erythrocytes (catalyzed by Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase) can be interpreted as evidence of stochastic resonance between the external ac field and the fluctuations of the membrane potential. The obtained results suggest that the significant part of these fluctuations is supplied by the stimulated action of neighbor voltage-gated ionic channels. This supports the idea that intrinsic noise plays a constructive role in one of most important and most frequent biophysical processs, viz. ion transmission through cell membranes. The effect of noise on phase synchronization in small sets and larger populations of weakly coupled chaotic oscillators is explored. Both independent and correlated noise are found to enhance phase synchronization of two coupled chaotic oscillators below the synchronization threshold; this is in contrast to the behavior of two coupled periodic oscillators. This constructive effect of noise results from the interplay between noise and the locking features of unstable periodic orbits. We show that in a population of nonidentical chaotic oscillators, correlated noise enhances synchronization in the weak coupling region. The interplay between noise and weak coupling induces a collective motion in which the coherence is maximal at an optimal noise intensity. Both the noise-enhanced phase synchronization and the coherence resonance numerically observed in coupled chaotic R?ssler oscillators are verified experimentally with an array of chaotic electrochemical oscillators.  相似文献

The bistable behaviour of an ensemble of two level atoms driven by a coherent external light field is discussed in the adiabatic limit when the relaxation of the atoms is fast compared to the relaxation of the field. The influence of the different noise sources is discussed separately in a one-dimensional approximation by neglecting the phase fluctuations. In the case where the fluctuations of the driving field play the dominant role, an exact solution of the two-dimensional stationary Fokker-Planck equation is derived describing amplitude as well as phase fluctuations.  相似文献

We present a study of the transport of a Brownian particle moving in a periodic symmetric potential in the presence of asymmetric unbiased fluctuations. The particle is considered to move in a medium with periodic space dependent friction. By tuning the parameters of the system, the direction of the current exhibits reversals, both as a function of temperature as well as the amplitude of rocking force. We study the backaction noise and measurement the efficiency (i.e., noise temperature) of a dc SQUID amplifier and, equivalently, a quantum point-contact detector formed in a Luttinger liquid. Using a mapping to a dissipative tight-binding model, we show that these systems are able to reach the quantum limit even in regimes where several independent transport processes contribute to the current. We suggest how this is related to the underlying integrability of these systems.  相似文献

We have analyzed the interplay between an externally added noise and the intrinsic noise of systems that relax fast towards a stationary state, and found that increasing the intensity of the external noise can reduce the total noise of the system. We report voltage-clamp measurements through single conical nanopore obtained by chemical etching of a single ion track in polyimide film. Special attention is paid to the pink noise of the ionic current (i.e., 1/f noise) measured with different filling liquids. The relative pink-noise amplitude is almost independent of concentration and pH for KCl solutions, but varies strongly using ionic liquids. In particular, we show that depending on the ionic liquid, the transport of charge carriers is strongly facilitated (low noise and higher conductivity than in the bulk) or jammed. These results show that the origin of the pink noise can be ascribed neither to fluctuations of the pore geometry nor to the pore wall charges, but rather to a cooperative effect on ions motion in confined geometry.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of fronts when both inertial effects and external fluctuations are taken into account. Stochastic fluctuations are introduced as multiplicative white noise arising from a control parameter of the system. Contrary to the non-inertial (overdamped) case, we find that important features of the system, such as the velocity selection picture, are not modified by the noise. We then compute the overdamped limit of the underdamped dynamics in a more careful way, finding that it does not exhibit any effect of noise either. We study theoretically the full counting statistics of electron transport through side-coupled double quantum dot (QD) based on an efficient particle-number-resolved master equation. It is demonstrated that the high-order cumulants of transport current are more sensitive to the quantum coherence than the average current, which can be used to probe the quantum coherence of the considered double QD system. Especially, quantum coherence plays a crucial role in determining whether the super-Poissonian noise occurs in the weak inter-dot hopping coupling regime depending on the corresponding QD-lead coupling, and the corresponding values of super-Poissonian noise can be relatively enhanced when considering the spins of conduction electrons. Moreover, this super-Poissonian noise bias range depends on the singly-occupied eigenstates of the system, which thus suggests a tunable super-Poissonian noise device. The occurrence-mechanism of super-Poissonian noise can be understood in terms of the interplay of quantum coherence and effective competition between fast-and-slow transport channels.  相似文献

A theory is presented to take into account internal fluctuations in the study of stochastically driven systems. Internal fluctuations are modeled by a master equation in which external noise is introduced. External noise is modeled by a two-state Markov process. A unified theory of internal and external fluctuations is described in terms of an effective integrodifferential master equation or its equivalent generating function representation. Two examples for which exact analytical results can be obtained are presented. A discussion of the white noise limit of the theory is also given.  相似文献

We report an experimental study of low-frequency (~10 kHz) self-pulsing of the output intensity in a high-concentration erbium-doped fiber laser. We suggest that the fast intensity fluctuations caused by multimode and polarization instabilities play the role of an external noise source, leading to low-frequency auto-oscillations through a coherence resonance scenario.  相似文献

Based on tight-binding approximation and a generalized Green's function method, the effect of uniaxial strain on the electron transport properties of Z-shaped graphene nanoribbon (GNR) composed of an armchair GNR sandwiched between two semi-infinite metallic armchair GNR electrodes is numerically investigated. Our results show that the increase of uniaxial strain enhances the band gap and leads to a metal-to-semiconductor transition for Z-shaped GNR. Furthermore, in the Landauer–Büttiker formalism, the current–voltage characteristics, the noise power resulting from the current fluctuations and Fano factor of strained Z-shaped GNR are explored. It is found the threshold voltage for the current and the noise power increased so that with reinforcement of the uniaxial strain parameter strength, the noise power goes from the Poisson limit to sub-Poisson region at higher bias voltages.  相似文献

We report a study of spin-dependent transport through a quantum dot irradiated by continuous circularly polarized light resonant to the electron-heavy hole transition. We use the nonequilibrium Green's function to calculate the spin accumulation, spin-resolved currents, and current polarization in the presence of an external bias and intradot Coulomb interaction. It is found that for a range of external biases sign reversal of the current polarization can be modulated. The system thus operates as a rectifier for spin current polarization. This effect follows from the interplay between the external irradiation and the Coulomb repulsion. The spin-polarized transport through a three-terminal device is also discussed. Spin current with high polarization could be obtained due to spin filter effect.  相似文献
