Motivated by recent experimental data, we study solar neutrino oscillations in the range δm2/E ε [10−10, 10−7] eV2/MeV. In this range vacuum oscillations become increasingly affected by (solar and terrestrial) matter effects for increasing δm2, smoothly reaching the MSW regime. A numerical study of matter effects in such “quasi-vacuum” regime is performed. The results are applied to the analysis of the recent solar neutrino phenomenology.  相似文献

Microdroplets of 15-μm diameter are subjected to ultra-short laser pulses of intensities up to 1015Wcm−2 to produce hot dense plasma. The hot electrons produced in the microdroplet plasma result in efficient generation of hard X-rays in the range 50–150keV at an irradiance as low as 8×1014Wcm−2. The X-ray source efficiency is estimated to be about 2 ×10−7%. A prepulse that is about 11ns ahead of the main pulse strongly influences the droplet plasma and the resulting X-ray emission. For a similar laser prepulse and intensity, no measurable hard X-ray emission is observed when the laser is focused on a solid target of similar composition and this indicates that liquid droplet targets are best suited for hard X-ray generation in laser–plasma interactions.  相似文献

We consider sterile neutrinos with rest masses 0.2 GeV and with vacuum flavor mixing angles θ2>10−8 for mixing with τ-neutrinos, or 10−8<θ2<10−7 for mixing with muon neutrinos. Such sterile neutrinos could augment core collapse supernova shock energies by enhancing energy transport from the core to the vicinity of the shock front. The decay of these neutrinos could produce a flux of very energetic active neutrinos, detectable by future neutrino observations from galactic supernova. The relevant range of sterile neutrino masses and mixing angles can be probed in future laboratory experiments.  相似文献

A method is worked out for calculation of an “instantaneous” energy distribution of the ionization-passive electrons and holes resulting from the electron-electron collisions before the onset of electron-phonon relaxation under 10−15–10−14 s irradiation of a dielectric by an intense electron or laser beam. The method is based on the solution of a system of integral-differential kinetic equations of general form. The Auger and impact ionization as well as hole recoil due to the momentum conservation law are taken into account in calculations. The “instantaneous” distribution is calculated in NaCl under irradiation of the sample by a high-density electron beam. We analyze possible lepton-flavor-violating decays of the Z0 particle in a minimal extension of the standard model, in which one right-handed neutral field for each family has been introduced. Such rare leptonic decays are induced by Majorana neutrinos at the first electroweak loop level and are generally not suppressed by the ordinary “see-saw” mechanism. In particular, we find that experimental bounds on branching ratios of the order of 10−5–10−6 attainable at LEP may impose constraints on lepton-flavor-mixing parameters and the masses of the heavy Majorana neutrinos.  相似文献

Intrinsic epitaxial zinc oxide (epi-ZnO) thin films were grown by laser-molecular beam epitaxy (L-MBE), i.e., pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique using Johnson Matthey “specpure”-grade ZnO pellets. The effects of substrate temperatures on ZnO thin film growth, electrical conductivity (σ), mobility (μ) and carrier concentration (n) were studied. As well as the feasibility of developing high quality conducting oxide thin films was also studied simultaneously. The highest conductivity was found for optimized epi-ZnO thin films is σ=0.06×103 ohm−1 cm−1 (n-type) (which is almost at the edge of semiconductivity range), carrier density n=0.316×1019 cm−3 and mobility μ=98 cm2/V s. The electrical studies further confirmed the semiconductor characteristics of epi-n-ZnO thin films. The relationship between the optical and electrical properties were also graphically enumerated. The electrical parameter values for the films were calculated, graphically enumerated and tabulated. As a novelty point of view, we have concluded that without doping and annealing, we have obtained optimum electrical conductivity with high optical transparency (95%) for as deposited ZnO thin films using PLD. Also, this is the first time that we have applied PLD made ZnO thin films to iso-, hetero-semiconductor–insulator–semiconductor (SIS) type solar cells as transparent conducting oxide (TCO) window layer. We hope that surely these data be helpful either as a scientific or technical basis in the semiconductor processing.  相似文献

Intersubband transitions in quantum well have extremely large oscillator strengths and induce strong nonlinear effects in structures where inversion symmetry is broken, realized by growing AlGaAs quantum wells with asymmetrical A1 gradients. These compositionally asymmetrical multiquantum wells may thus be viewed as giant “quasimolecules” optimized for optimal nonlinearities in the mid infrared. Optical rectification as well as second harmonic generation have been measured in those structures using a continuous CO2 laser. At 10.6 μm the nonlinear coefficients are more than 3 orders of magnitude higher in these samples than for bulk GaAs (i.e. χ0(2) = 5.3 × 10−6m/V, χ2ω(2) = 7.2 × 10−7 m/V) and are in good agreement with theoretical predictions. We present more complex “pseudo-molecules” involving weakly coupled quantum wells. The optical rectification effects in these devices are so large χ0(2) = 1.6 × 10−3 m/V) that application to infrared detection may be envisioned.  相似文献

Bi85Sb15−xPrx (x=0,1,2,3) alloys with partial substitution of Pr for Sb were synthesized by mechanical alloying followed by high-pressure sintering. The crystal structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction. The electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient were measured in the temperature range of 80–300 K. The results show that the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of Pr-substituted samples are both larger than those of the reference sample, Bi85Sb15, in the whole measurement temperature range. The power factor of Bi85Sb13Pr2 reaches a maximum value of 3.83×10−3 W K−2 m−1 at 235 K, which is about four times larger than that of the reference sample, Bi85Sb15, at the same temperature.  相似文献

Superstring theory in d = 10 dimensions after Calabi—Yau compactification yields a minimum low-energy gauge group SU(3)C × SU(2)L × U(1)Y × U(1)E. The low-energy theory includes particles with the quantum numbers of 27 representations of E6, each of which contains an extra neutrino νc conventionally called a “right-handed neutrino”. The contributions of ν and νc to through Z0 and ZE mixing is calculated. Small contributions are found of the new right-handed neutrino and of the superstring boson ZE to σ(e+e → γ + nothing).  相似文献

We characterize and compare four different types of focusing optics for hard X-rays, suitable for femtosecond X-ray diffraction experiments, usinga tabletop femtosecond laser-based plasma source. We demonstrate a 23 μmfocus with a toroidally bent Ge single crystal. A maximum flux of 7× 108 photons/(s mm2) is generated in a 32 μm focus using a multi-layer mirror. An elliptical glass capillary yields the highest number of photons per Bragg angle [2× 105 photons/(s mrad)]. The largest number of photons[3× 106 photons/s] per second is obtained in the 105 μm focus of a poly-capillary optical lens system. An optical sensor using a quartz core microcantilever was fabricated by etching clad layer from optical fiber. The temperature dependence of the resonance frequency of this sensor was measured in atmosphere and water. The temperature coefficient of the resonance frequency in water was 1.3×10−3/°C, which was about one order larger than that (2.3×10−4/°C) in atmosphere. This was caused by increase of additional mass due to temperature dependence of the viscosity of water, while, the increase of the resonance frequency in atmosphere was caused by temperature dependence of Young’s modulus of the quartz core. These results were evaluated theoretically using a “string-of-beads” model.  相似文献

We present the results of the search for supermassive magnetic monopoles with the MACRO experiment. Our detector is equipped with three independent subdetectors (liquid scintillation counters, limited streamer tubes and nuclear track detectors), operating in different ranges of monopole velocity. In several years of data taking no candidates were found; the present flux upper limits are the level of half the Parker Bound for β > 10−4; for 10−4 < β < 5 × 10−2 the limit is the best existing.  相似文献

Focused ion beam implantation of gallium and dysprosium was used to locally insulate the near-surface two-dimensional electron gas of AlxGa1−xN/GaN heterostructures. The threshold dose for insulation was determined to be 2×1010 cm−1 for 90 keV Ga+ and 1×109 cm−1 for 200 keV Dy2+ at 4.2 K. This offers a tool not only for inter-device insulation but also for direct device fabrication. Making use of “open-T” like insulating line patterns, in-plane gate transistors have been fabricated by focused ion beam implantation. An exemplar with a geometrical channel width of 1.5 μm shows a conductance of 32 μS at 0 V gate voltage and a transconductance of around 4 μS, which is only slightly dependent on the gate voltage.  相似文献

Measurements of 116Cd double beta decay with help of enriched116CdWO4 crystal scintillator are in progress in the Solotvina Underground Laboratory. The last part of the exposition with the background rate less than 0.6 counts/y·kg·keV (in the region of interest 2.7–2.9 MeV) is about 19000 hours. The half-life limit T1/2(0ν)≥3.2·1022 y (90% C.L.) is obtained for neutrinoless 2β decay of 116Cd. It corresponds to restrictions on the values of the neutrino mass mν≤3.9 eV, right-handed admixtures in weak interaction η≤5.7·10−8, λ5.0·10−6 and R-parity violating parameter of minimal supersymmetric standard model ≤1.1·10−3. For neutrinoless modes with emission of one and two Majorons, the limits T1/2(0νM1)≥1.2·1021 y and T1/2(0νM2)≥2.4·1020 y (90% C.L.) are determined. To advance these results to a level of the limit mν≤1–2 eV, the improved set-up with four enriched 116CdWO4 crystals is in mounting low.  相似文献

A new technique has been used to search for solar axions using a single crystal germanium detector. It exploits the coherent conversion of axions into photons when their angle of incidence satisfies a Bragg condition with a crystalline plane. The analysis of approximately 1.94 kg.yr of data from the 1 kg DEMOS detector in Sierra Grande, Argentina, yields a new laboratory bound on axion-photon coupling of gαγγ < 2.7 × 10−9GeV−1, independent of axion mass up to 1 keV.  相似文献

The mechanism of baryon-anti-baryon pair production in e+e annihilation into hadrons has been studied using the TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN e+e collider at an average center-of-mass energy of 58 GeV. The distributions of various correlations were compared with two prominent models: the cluster-fragmentation model and the string-fragmentation model. We rejected the cluster-fragmentation model at the 90% C.L. Furthermore, in the context of the string-fragmentation model, we favor the “popcorn” model, rejecting the “diquark” model, where a diquark is considered to be a fundamental entity, at the 95% C.L.  相似文献

We investigated a particular design of a highly birefringent PCF with attractive features for pressure sensing applications. A plane-wave method together with the finite element method were used to numerically calculate phase and group modal birefringence, pressure and temperature sensitivities of our fiber. The simulation results together with the experiments demonstrate a considerable difference between a very high phase birefringence (B ∼ 10−3) and a very low negative group birefringence (G −10−3). Our fiber exhibits a low and positive temperature sensitivity (KT < 0.1 rad/(K⋅m)), and relatively high and negative mechanical (pressure) sensitivity (Kp ≤ −10 rad/(MPa⋅m)), which supports its possible use as a mechanical sensor that does not require any temperature compensation.  相似文献

Several transitions in the vibration-rotation spectrum of the CF radical in its X2Π state have been detected by CO-laser magnetic resonance. In addition to strong resonances for the 2Π3/2-2Π3/2 transitions in the fundamental band at 1286 cm−1, weaker “cross” 2Π3/2-2Π1/2 and hot band transitions have also been observed. The 19F nuclear hyperfine splitting is clearly resolved for almost every transition. These observations provide an interesting comparison with the recent study of the same (1, 0) band of CF by diode laser spectroscopy.  相似文献

A new technique of determining Be content in samples using 4.66 MeV γ-rays is proposed. This energy range is sufficient to knock out the neutron from the 9Be nucleaus and to excite the first 2.9 MeV level of the 8Be nuclei. 1.5 MeV alpha particles are registered by means of CR-39 or cellulose nitrate detectors. Alpha particles produced in the reaction of γ-rays with Li nuclei which are contained in samples may cause the background. The latter is excluded by heating of samples before irradiation for Li molecules to be evaporated. 11B nuclei do not produce alpha particles at the energy range of γ-rays presented above.The results obtained in the experiments of determining Be content in natural beryl crystal samples are in good agreement with their known chemical composition. Microparticles containing Beryllium were found in soil samples from the Ust-Kamenogorsk are deposit region, which contains 10−3 − 10−4 g/g of Be. The sensitivity of the method is 10−6 g/g of Be in solids.  相似文献
