The decay processes of the lowest excited singlet and triplet states of five methylated angelicins (4,6,4′-trimethyl-angelicin, MA, and four methylated thioangelicins, MTA; see Scheme 1) were investigated in live solvents by stationary and pulsed fluorometric and flash photolytic techniques. In particular, the solvent effects on absorption, fluorescence, quantum yields of fluorescence (φF) and triplet formation (φT), lifetimes of fluorescence (τF) and the triplet state (τT) and the quantum yields of singlet oxygen production (φΔ) were investigated. Semiempirical (ZINDO/S-CI) calculations were carried out to obtain information (transition probabilities and nature) on the lowest excited singlet and triplet states. The quantum mechanical calculations and the solvent effect on the photophysical properties showed that the lowest excited singlet state (S1) is a partially allowed π,π* state, while the close-lying S2 state is n,π* in nature. The efficiencies of fluorescence, S1→T1 intersystem crossing (ISC) and S1→ S0 internal conversion (IC) strongly depend on the energy gap between S1, and S2 and are explained in terms of the so-called proximity effect. In fact, for MA in cyclohexane, only the S1→ S0 internal conversion is operative, while in acetonitrile and ethanol, where the n.π* state is shifted to higher energy, the efficiencies of fluorescence and ISC increase significantly. The energy gap between S1 and S2 increases in MTA, where the furanic oxygen is replaced by a sulfur atom. Consequently, the solvent effect on the photophysical parameters of MTA is less marked than for MA; e.g. fluorescence and triplet-triplet absorption are also detectable in the nonpolar cyclohexane. The lowest excited singlet state of molecular oxygen O2(1Dg) was produced efficiently in polar solvents by energy transfer from the T1 state of MA and MTA.  相似文献

The absorption and emission spectroscopic behaviour of cyclometalated fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) iridium(III) [Ir(ppy)3] is studied at room temperature. Liquid solutions, doped films, and neat films are investigated. The absorption cross-section spectra including singlet–triplet absorption, the triplet–singlet stimulated emission cross-section spectra, the phosphorescence quantum distributions, the phosphorescence quantum yields and the phosphorescence signal decays are determined. In neat films fluorescence self-quenching occurs, in diluted solid solution (polystyrene and dicarbazole-biphenyl films) as well as deaerated liquid solution (toluene) high phosphorescence quantum yields are obtained, and in air-saturated liquid solutions (chloroform, toluene, tetrahydrofuran) the phosphorescence efficiency is reduced by triplet oxygen quenching. At intense short-pulse laser excitation the phosphorescence lifetime is shortened by triplet–triplet annihilation. No amplification of spontaneous emission in the phosphorescence spectral region was observed indicating higher excited-state absorption than stimulated emission.  相似文献

The synthesis, photophysical and photochemical properties of the tetra-substituted aryloxy gallium(III) and indium(III) phthalocyanines are reported for the first time. General trends are described for photodegradation, singlet oxygen, fluorescence, and triplet quantum yields and triplet lifetimes of these compounds. The introduction of phenoxy and tert-butylphenoxy substituents on the ring resulted in lowering of fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes, and triplet quantum yields, and an increase of kIC, kISC, and kF. Photoreduction of the complexes was observed during laser flash photolysis. The singlet oxygen quantum yields (ΦΔ), which give an indication of the potential of the complexes as photosensitizers in applications where singlet oxygen is required (Type II mechanism) ranged from 0.41 to 0.91. Thus, these complexes show potential as Type II photosensitizers.  相似文献

The facile synthesis of Group 9 RhIII porphyrin‐aza‐BODIPY conjugates that are linked through an orthogonal Rh?C(aryl) bond is reported. The conjugates combine the advantages of the near‐IR (NIR) absorption and intense fluorescence of aza‐BODIPY dyes with the long‐lived triplet states of transition metal rhodium porphyrins. Only one emission peak centered at about 720 nm is observed, irrespective of the excitation wavelength, demonstrating that the conjugates act as unique molecules rather than as dyads. The generation of a locally excited (LE) state with intramolecular charge‐transfer (ICT) character has been demonstrated by solvatochromic effects in the photophysical properties, singlet oxygen quantum yields in polar solvents, and by the results of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In nonpolar solvents, the RhIII conjugates exhibit strong aza‐BODIPY‐centered fluorescence at around 720 nm (ΦF=17–34 %), and negligible singlet oxygen generation. In polar solvents, enhancements of the singlet‐oxygen quantum yield (ΦΔ=19–27 %, λex=690 nm) have been observed. Nanosecond pulsed time‐resolved absorption spectroscopy confirms that relatively long‐lived triplet excited states are formed. The synthetic methodology outlined herein provides a useful strategy for the assembly of functional materials that are highly desirable for a wide range of applications in material science and biomedical fields.  相似文献

We prepared a N^N Pt(II) bisacetylide complex that has strong absorption of visible light (molar absorption coefficients ϵ=6.7×104 M−1 cm−1 at 570 nm), and the singlet oxygen quantum yield (ΦΔ) is up to 78 %. Femtosecond transient absorption spectra show the intersystem crossing (ISC) of the complex takes 81.8 ps, nanosecond transient absorption spectra show the triplet excited state lifetime is 7.6 μs. Density functional theory (DFT) computation demonstrated that the S1 and T1 states are mainly localized on the perylenemonoimide (PMI) ligands, although the involvement of the Pt(II) centre is noticeable. The complex was used as triplet photosensitizer to generate delayed fluorescence with perylenebisimide (PBI) as the triplet state energy acceptor and emitter, via the intermolecular triplet-triplet energy transfer (TTET) and triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA), the delayed fluorescence lifetime is up to 52.5 μs under the experimental conditions.  相似文献

Dendrimers with a C60 core have been obtained by cyclization of dendritic bis-malonate derivatives at the carbon sphere. The resulting bis-methanofullerene derivatives have been characterised by electrospray (ES) and/or MALDI-TOF mass spectrometries. UV-VIS absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, and fullerene singlet excited state lifetimes have been determined in solvents of different polarity (toluene, dichloromethane, acetonitrile). These data suggest a tighter core/periphery contact upon increase of solvent polarity and dendrimer size. In all the investigated solvents, the fullerene triplet lifetimes are steadily increased with the dendrimer volume, reflecting lower diffusion rates of O2 inside the dendrimers along the series. Measurements of quantum yields of singlet oxygen sensitization indicate that longer lived triplet states generate lower amounts of singlet oxygen (1O2) in dichloromethane but not in apolar toluene suggesting a tighter contact between the dendritic branches and the fullerene core in CH2Cl2. In acetonitrile, the trend in singlet oxygen production is peculiar. Effectively, enhanced singlet oxygen production is monitored for the largest dendrimer. This reflects specific interactions of excited 1O2 molecules with the dendritic wedges, as probed by singlet oxygen lifetime measurements, possibly as a consequence of trapping effects.  相似文献

This paper describes the results of a study of the photophysical properties of various methyl-angelicins (MA) in solvents of different polarity and proticity. The behavior of their excited singlet and triplet states was investigated by fluorometry and nanosecond laser flash photolysis. On the basis of semiempirical (ZINDO/S-CI) calculations and the solvent effect on the absorption and fluorescence properties, the lowest excited singlet state (S1) is assigned to a partially allowed π, π* state. The close lying S2 state is n,π* in nature. The efficiency of the decay pathways of S1 (fluorescence, intersystem crossing and internal conversion) strongly depends on the energy gap between the S1 and S2 states consistent with the manifestation of “proximity effect.” Thus, MA in cyclohexane decay only through S1→ S0 internal conversion, while in acetonitrile and ethanol, where the n, π* state is located at higher energy, their fluorescence and intersystem crossing increase significantly. The lowest excited triplet states (T1) were characterized in terms of their absorption spectra, decay kinetics, molar absorption coefficients and formation quantum yields. The interaction of T1 MA with molecular oxygen leads to an efficient formation of singlet oxygen, as evidenced by the appearance of characteristic IR phosphorescence centered at 1269 nm.  相似文献

Abstract— Pyrazinopsoralen (PzPs), a new monofunctional psoralen, has a UV absorption spectrum similar to other psoralens except that it absorbs more strongly in the long-UVA than 8-methoxypsoralen. The solvent effects on the UV absorption and fluorescence emission spectra indicate that the lowest excited singlet state is the π,π* state like other psoralen derivatives. It shows a much lower fluorescence quantum yield (0.0008 in ethanol at room temperature) than the other psoralens as expected by the increased proximity effect (vibronic perturbation) due to close 1(n,π*) to 1(π,π*) states. The fluorescence lifetime was 1.05 ns in methylcyclohexane with a single exponential decay, while more than two components were observed in other solvents with the short-lived component being the major (>95%). The triplet state of PzPs could not be detected by phosphorescence, laser flash excitation (T-T absorption) and singlet oxygen formation probably due to very low φisc, or short lifetime of the triplet state (τT) caused by the fast T1→ S0 intersystem crossing.  相似文献

In this work, we have quantified for the first time the fluorescence and singlet oxygen quantum yields of a silicon(IV) phthalocyanine bound to the surface of zeolite L nanocrystals. The photophysical properties were correlated with the absorption spectra and the morphology of the nanoparticles, and most importantly, with the fraction of photoactive chromophores. By comparison with the fluorescence and singlet oxygen quantum yields of the free phthalocyaninate in dilute solution (ΦF = 0.50 and Φ? = 0.50, respectively), we conclude that for the most efficient nanoparticles nearly 80% of chromophores are active as monomeric units on the surface, as indicated by the corresponding quantum yields (ΦF = 0.40 and Φ? = 0.40). We further functionalized and raised the ζ‐potential of the best performing nanomaterial to improve its water dispersibility. The functionalization was monitored by thermogravimetric analysis and time‐of‐flight secondary‐ion mass spectrometry, and its influence on the photophysical properties was assessed. The resulting nanomaterials are capable of establishing stable suspensions in water while retaining the ability to form reactive oxygen species upon irradiation with red light. This provides a basis for the rational design of photoactive nanomaterials for photodynamic therapy or water decontamination.  相似文献

Pristine BODIPY compounds have negligible efficiency to generate the excited triplet state and singlet oxygen. In this report, we show that attaching a good electron donor to the BODIPY core can lead to singlet oxygen formation with up to 58 % quantum efficiency. For this purpose, BODIPYs with meso ‐aryl groups (phenyl, naphthyl, anthryl, and pyrenyl) were synthesized and characterized. The fluorescence, excited triplet state, and singlet oxygen formation properties for these compounds were measured in various solvents by UV/Vis absorption, steady‐state and time‐resolved fluorescence methods, as well as laser flash photolysis technique. In particular, the presence of anthryl and pyrenyl showed substantial enhancement on the singlet oxygen formation ability of BODIPY with up to 58 % and 34 % quantum efficiency, respectively, owing to their stronger electron‐donating ability. Upon the increase in singlet oxygen formation, the fluorescence quantum yield and lifetime values of the aryl‐BODIPY showed a concomitant decrease. The increase in solvent polarity enhances the singlet oxygen generation but decreases the fluorescence quantum yield. The results are explained by the presence of intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer from the aryl moiety to BODIPY core. This method of promoting T1 formation is very different from the traditional heavy atom effect by I, Br, or transition metal atoms. This type of novel photosensitizers may find important applications in organic oxygenation reactions and photodynamic therapy of tumors.  相似文献

The T-T spectra, the triplet quantum yield φT and the fluorescence quantum yield φF of 2-tert. butyl-4-methylindazole and 1,3-dimethylindazole have been measured in the temperature range of +25° to −196°C in solvents of different viscosities. It could be shown that in all cases where photochemical reactions from the first excited singlet state are absent, the sum φF + φT equals unity within the limits of error.  相似文献

Here, we report the synthesis, photophysical properties and photodynamic effects in DLA live cells of three water soluble squaraine dyes, viz. bisbenzothiazolium squaraine dyes SQMI and SQDI with iodine in one and both benzothiazolium units, respectively, and an unsymmetrical squaraine dye ASQI containing iodinated benzothiazolium and aniline substituents. The diiodinated SQDI showed an anomalous trend in both fluorescence and triplet quantum yields over the monoiodinated SQMI, with SQDI showing higher fluorescence and lower triplet quantum yields compared to SQMI. Nanosecond laser flash photolysis of SQDI and SQMI indicated the formation of triplet excited states with quantum yield of 0.19 and 0.26, respectively. On photoirradiation, both the SQDI and SQMI generate singlet oxygen and it was observed that both dyes undergoing oxidation reactions with the singlet oxygen generated. ASQI which exhibited a lower triplet quantum yield of 0.06 was, however, stable and did not react with the singlet oxygen generated. In vitro cytotoxicity studies of these dyes in DLA live cells were performed using Trypan blue dye exclusion method and it reflect an order of cytotoxicity of SQDI>SQMI>ASQI. Intracellular generation of the ROS was confirmed by dichlorofluorescein assay after the in vitro PDT.  相似文献

Quasilinear absorption and luminescence spectra of 1,2-benzotetraphene were obtained in polycrystalline matrices at 77 K. Tne energies of successive excited singlet states as well as the energy of the lowest excited triplet state were found experimentally and compared with those calculated by the PPP CI method. The fluorescence lifetime and quantum yield were determined experimentally. Moreover, the radiationless transition probabilities, lifetime of triplet state and phosphorescence quantum yield were estimated employing the Siebrand-Williams model. The results obtained suggest that radiationless ISC processes are the main deactivation channel of the S1 and T1 states. The vibrational analysis of quasilinear absorption and luminescence spectra was performed and fundamental frequencies of ground and first excited singlet states were determined.  相似文献

Abstract— We describe the synthesis and photophysical studies, including measurements of quantum yields of triplet excited states and singlet oxygen generation of bis(3,5-dibromo-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)squaraine (2) and bis(3,5-diiodo-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)squaraine (3). These dyes exist in solution in the protonated, neutral, single and double depro-tonated forms, depending on pH. The pKa values of these dyes were found to be relatively lower than those of the parent bis(2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)squaraine (1). Only the single deprotonated forms (Sq) of 2 and 3 showed measurable fluorescence. In microheterogeneous media such as in the presence of β-cyclodextrin, cetyltrunethylammonium bromide and polyvinylpyrrolidone), bathochromic shifts in the absorption and emission spectra of Sq were observed with a substantial enhancement in their fluorescence yields. Triplet excited states are the main transient intermediates obtained upon 532 nm laser excitation of the various forms of 2 and 3 in methanol. These triplets have lifetimes in the range from 0.061 to 132 μs. The triplet quantum yields of double deprotonated forms are low (φT = <0.01), whereas the neutral and Sq?forms of 2 (φr = 0.12 and 0.22) and 3 (φT= 0.24 and 0.5), respectively, exhibited significant triplet yields. Quantum yields of singlet oxygen generation by Sq?forms of 2 and 3 were determined in methanol and were found to be 0.13 and 0.47, respectively, which are in good agreement with the triplet yields obtained in these systems.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of benzoporphyrin derivative monoacid ring A (BPD-MA), a second-generation photosensitizer currently in phase II clinical trials, were investigated in homogeneous solution. Absorption, fluorescence, triplet-state, singlet oxygen (O2(1Δg)) sensitization studies and photobleaching experiments are reported. The ground state of this chlorin-type molecule shows a strong absorbance in the red (λ≈ 688 nm, ?≈ 33 000 M?1 cm?1 in organic solvents). For the singlet excited state the following data were determined in methanol: energy level, Es= 42.1 kcal mol?1, lifetime, Φf= 5.2 ns and fluorescence quantum yield, Φf= 0.05 in air-saturated solution. The triplet state of BPD-MA has a lifetime, τf >. 25 ns, an energy level, ET= 26.9 kcal mol?1 and the molar absorption coefficient is ?T= 26 650 M?1 cm?1 at 720 nm. A dramatic effect of oxygen on the fluorescence (φf) and intersystem crossing (φT) quantum yields has been observed. The BPD-MA presents rather high triplet (φT= 0.68 under N2-saturated conditions) and singlet oxygen (φΔ= 0.78) quantum yields. On the other hand, the presence of oxygen does not significantly modify the photobleaching of this photostable compound, the photodegradation quantum yield (φPb) of which was found to be on the order of 5 × 10?5 in organic solvents.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic sarafloxacin (SFX) were investigated in aqueous media. SFX in water, at pH 7.4, shows intense absorption with peaks at 272, 322 and 335 nm, (? = 36800 and 17000 dm3 mol?1 cm?1, respectively). Both the absorption and emission properties of SFX are pH‐dependent; pKa values for the protonation equilibria of both the ground (5.8 and 9.1) and excited singlet states (5.7 and 9.0) of SFX were determined spectroscopically. SFX fluoresces weakly, the quantum yield for fluorescence emission being maximum (0.07) at pH 8. Laser flash photolysis and pulse radiolysis studies have been carried out in order to characterize the transient species of SFX in aqueous solution. Triplet–triplet absorption has a maximum at 610 nm with a molar absorption coefficient of 17,000 ± 1000 dm3 mol?1 cm?1. The quantum yield of triplet formation has been determined to be 0.35 ± 0.05. In the presence of oxygen, the triplet reacts to form excited singlet oxygen with quantum yield of 0.10. The initial triplet (3A*) was found to react with phosphate buffer to form triplet 3B* with lower energy and longer lifetime and having an absorption band centered at 700 nm. SFX triplet was also found to oxidize tryptophan to its radical with concomitant formation of the anion radical of SFX. Hence the photosensitivity of SFX could be initiated by the oxygen radicals and/or by SFX radicals acting as haptens.  相似文献

Abstract— Steady state and time resolved fluorescence emission properties of symmetrical dialkoxy-anthracenes (especially substituted on the side rings) 1-X, Y were studied in methylcylohexane. At room temperature, the fluorescence spectra of 1-X, Y show bands in the region of 380–550 nm and quantum yields (φF) in the range of 0.2–1. The fluorescence emission decays were found to be single exponential. The determination of the intersystem crossing quantum yields (φisc) for the weakly fluorescent compounds (1–1,5, 1–1,8 and 1–2,3) demonstrates that internal conversion is negligible compared with fluorescence emission and intersystem crossing, as previously observed for other anthracene derivatives. The fluorescence emission efficiency of compounds 1-X,Y is controlled by the relative mutual positions of the second triplet T2 (whose energy varies significantly with substitution) and the first excited singlet S1 states, respectively. An unusual solvatochromism was found for compound 1–1,4 which has a very weak permanent dipole moment in the ground state. This behavior was assigned to strong changes in the electronic densities between the excited singlet state and the ground state.  相似文献

A 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxyl (TEMPO) radical was attached to the bay position of perylene-3,4 : 9,10-bis(dicarboximide) (perylenebisimide, PBI) to study the radical-enhanced intersystem crossing (REISC) and electron spin dynamics of the photo-induced high-spin states. The dyads give strong visible light absorption (ϵ=27000 M−1 cm−1at 607 nm). Attaching a TEMPO radical to the PBI unit transforms the otherwise non-radiative decay of S1 state (fluorescence quantum yield: ΦF=2.9 %) of PBI unit to ISC (singlet oxygen quantum yield: ΦΔ=31.8 %, ΦF=1.6 %). Moreover, the REISC is more efficient as compared to the heavy atom effect-induced ISC (ΦΔ=17.8 % for 1,8-dibromoPBI). For the dyad, ISC takes 245 ps and triplet state lifetime is 1.5 μs, much shorter than the native PBI (τT=126.6 μs). X- and Q-band time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy shows that the exchange interaction in the photoexcited radical-chromophore dyad is larger than the triplet zero-field splitting (ZFS) and the difference of Zeeman energies of the radical and chromophore. The inversion of electron spin polarization from emissive to absorptive was observed and attributed to the initial completion of the quartet state population and the subsequent depopulation processes induced by the zero-field splitting.  相似文献

Steady state absorption and fluorescence as well as the time resolved absorption studies in the pico and subpicosecond time domain have been performed to characterize the excited singlet and triplet states of Michler's ketone (MK). The nature of the lowest excited singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) states depends on the polarity of the solvent - in nonpolar solvents they have either pure nπ * character or mixed character of nπ * and ππ * states but in more polar solvents the states have CT character. Concentration dependence of the shapes of the fluorescence as well the excited singlet and triplet absorption spectra provide the evidence for the association of the MK molecules in the ground state.  相似文献

The efficiency of aromatic ketones as singlet-oxygen (1O2(1Δg)) sensitizers can vary considerably with the electronic configuration of their lowest triplet state and the solvent used. Near-infrared measurements of tie luminescence of singlet oxygen have shown that the quantum yield of singlet-oxygen production (ΦΔ) by 1H-phenalen-1-one ( 1 ) is close to unity in both polar (ΦΔ = 0.97±0.03 in methanol) and non-polar solvents (ΦΔ = 0.93±0.04 in benzene). Analysis of the absorption spectra of the ground state and phosphorescence measurements show that the lowest singlet and triplet states have dominant π, π* electronic configurations. The quantum yield of intersystem crossing (ΦISC) of 1 , determined by laser flash photolysis (partial-saturation method), is equal to unity. In comparison with other aromatic ketones, these parameters are important for the discussion of the surprisingly high ΦISC of 1 and the efficient energy transfer from its triplet state to molecular oxygen. The 1H-phenalen-1-one ( 1 ), being one of the most efficient singlet-oxygen sensitizers in both polar and non-polar media, could be used as a reference sensitizer, in particular in the area of relatively high energies of excitation.  相似文献
