We study bounded ancient solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations. These are solutions with bounded velocity defined in R
n
× (−1, 0). In two space dimensions we prove that such solutions are either constant or of the form u(x, t) = b(t), depending on the exact definition of admissible solutions. The general 3-dimensional problem seems to be out of reach of
existing techniques, but partial results can be obtained in the case of axisymmetric solutions. We apply these results to
some scenarios of potential singularity formation for axi-symmetric solutions, and obtain extensions of results in a recent

Let D be an integral domain and X an indeterminate over D . We show that if S is an almost splitting set of an integral domain D , then D is an APVMD if and only if both DS and DN(S) are APVMDs. We also prove that if {Dα}α∈I is a collection of quotient rings of D such that D=∩α∈IDα has finite character (that is, each nonzero d∈D is a unit in almost all Dα) and each of Dα is an APVMD, then D is an APVMD. Using these results, we give several Nagata-like theorems for APVMDs. 相似文献

We prove that a locally compact ANR-space X is a Q-manifold if and only if it has the Disjoint Disk Property (DDP), all points of X are homological Z∞-points and X has the countable-dimensional approximation property (cd-AP), which means that each map f:K→X of a compact polyhedron can be approximated by a map with the countable-dimensional image. As an application we prove that a space X with DDP and cd-AP is a Q-manifold if some finite power of X is a Q-manifold. If some finite power of a space X with cd-AP is a Q-manifold, then X2 and X×[0,1] are Q-manifolds as well. We construct a countable familyχof spaces with DDP and cd-AP such that no space X∈χis homeomorphic to the Hilbert cube Q whereas the product X×Y of any different spaces X, Y∈χis homeomorphic to Q. Let T:D⊂X→X be an iteration function in a complete metric space X. In this paper we present some new general complete convergence theorems for the Picard iteration xn+1=Txn with order of convergence at least r≥1. Each of these theorems contains a priori and a posteriori error estimates as well as some other estimates. A central role in the new theory is played by the notions of a function of initial conditions of T and a convergence function of T. We study the convergence of the Picard iteration associated to T with respect to a function of initial conditions E:D→X. The initial conditions in our convergence results utilize only information at the starting point x0. More precisely, the initial conditions are given in the form E(x0)∈J, where J is an interval on R+ containing 0. The new convergence theory is applied to the Newton iteration in Banach spaces. We establish three complete ω-versions of the famous semilocal Newton–Kantorovich theorem as well as a complete version of the famous semilocal α-theorem of Smale for analytic functions. 相似文献

In this paper, for \(K\) -quasiconformal mappings of a bounded domain into the complex plane, we build a sharp lower bound of Burkholder’s functional. As an application, we give two explicit and sharp lower bounds of Burkholder’s integrals for two subclasses of \(K\) -quasiconformal mappings, respectively. As the second application, we obtain a sharp upper bound of the \(L^p\) -integral of \(\sqrt{J_f}\) for certain \(K\) -quasiconformal mappings. 相似文献

In this paper, we study linear trigonometric hyperbolic cross approximations, Kolmogorov n-widths d n (W,H γ ), and ε-dimensions n ε (W,H γ ) of periodic d-variate function classes W with anisotropic smoothness, where d may be large. We are interested in finding the accurate dependence of d n (W,H γ ) and n ε (W,H γ ) as a function of two variables n, d and ε, d, respectively. Recall that n, the dimension of the approximating subspace, is the main parameter in the study of convergence rates with respect to n going to infinity. However, the parameter d may seriously affect this rate when d is large. We construct linear approximations of functions from W by trigonometric polynomials with frequencies from hyperbolic crosses and prove upper bounds for the error measured in isotropic Sobolev spaces H γ . Furthermore, in order to show the optimality of the proposed approximation, we prove upper and lower bounds of the corresponding n-widths d n (W,H γ ) and ε-dimensions n ε (W,H γ ). Some of the received results imply that the curse of dimensionality can be broken in some relevant situations. 相似文献

The purpose of this article is to prove some approximation theorems of common fixed points for countable families of total quasi-?-asymptotically nonexpansive mappings which contain several kinds of mappings as its special cases in Banach spaces. In order to get the approximation theorems, the hybrid algorithms are presented and are used to approximate the common fixed points. Using this result, we also discuss the problem of strong convergence concerning the maximal monotone operators in a Banach space. Fuzzy measure (or non-additive measure), which has been comprehensively investigated, is a generalization of additive probability measure. Several important kinds of non-additive integrals have been built on it. Integral inequalities play important roles in classical probability and measure theory. In this paper, we discuss some of these inequalities for one kind of non-additive integrals—Choquet integral, including Markov type inequality, Jensen type inequality, Hölder type inequality and Minkowski type inequality. In this paper, we consider orthogonal Ricci curvature \(Ric^{\perp }\) for Kähler manifolds, which is a curvature condition closely related to Ricci curvature and holomorphic sectional curvature. We prove comparison theorems and a vanishing theorem related to these curvature conditions, and construct various examples to illustrate subtle relationship among them. As a consequence of the vanishing theorem, we show that any compact Kähler manifold with positive orthogonal Ricci curvature must be projective. This result complements a recent result of Yang (RC-positivity, rational connectedness, and Yau’s conjecture. arXiv:1708.06713) on the projectivity under the positivity of holomorphic sectional curvature. The simply-connectedness is shown when the complex dimension is smaller than five. Further study of compact Kähler manifolds with \(Ric^{\perp }>0\) is carried in Ni et al.
