Synthesis of new condensed derivatives of pyrano[4,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]thieno[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">e</Emphasis>]pyridine and pyrido[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidine

The reactions of 2-methyl (propyl) substituted 8,8-dimethyl-7,10-dihydro-4H,8H-pyrano[3",4":5',6']pyrido[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d][1,3]oxazines with primary amines give 2-methyl (propyl) substituted 8,8-di- methyl-7,10-dihydro-8H-pyrano[3",4":5',6']pyrido[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d][1,3]pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones or 3-acetyl-N-alkyl- and N-alkyl-3-butyrylamino-7,7-dimethyl-7,8-dihydro-5H-pyrano[4,3-b]thieno[3,2-e]- pyridine-2-carboxamides depending on steric hindrance in the amines.     

A new route to annulated oligothiophenes

[reaction: see text] A new convenient method for the construction of thiophene-annulated thieno[2,3-b]thiophenes has been proposed. The key step of the method is ring closure of 10H-bisthienodithiocin-10-one by strong bases. The syntheses of two previously unknown annulated oligothiophenes, thieno[2,3-b]thieno[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d]thiophene (1a) and thieno[3,2-b]thieno[2',3':4,5]thieno[3,2-d]thiophene (1b), have been described to illustrate the success of the method.     

New approaches to the synthesis of functionally substituted pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-b]pyridines and the structure of the products obtained

Substituted pyrido,[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-b]pyndines were obtained by the reaction of 3-amino-2-benzoylthieno [2,3-b]pyridines with malononitrile and the reaction of 3-cyanopyridine-2(IH)-thiones with 2-aryl-3-bromo-I,I-dicyanopropene. 2-Amino-4-(4-bromophenyl)-7, 9-dimethyl-3-cyanopyrido [3',2':4,5]thieno[3, 2-b]-pyridine was used for the synthesis of a derivative of pyrido[3",2":4', 5']thieno[2',3':5,6]pyrido[2,3-d]-pyrimidine. The structure of these compounds was confirmed by spectral data and x-ray diffraction structural analysis.Deceased.     

Condensed Thienopyrimidines. 19. Study of the Heterocyclization of 2-Hydrazino-6,6-dimethyl-5,6-dihydro-8H-pyranothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-one

Novel condensed pyrano[4',3':4,5]thieno[3,2-e]triazolo[3,4-b]pyrimidine derivatives have been synthesized from 2-amino-3-carbethoxy-5,5-dimethyl-4,5-dihydro-7H-thieno[2,3-c]pyran.     

Syntheses of some new azolopyrido‐[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d]pyrimidines

Diethyl 2‐[(ethoxythioxomethyl)amino]‐4,5,6,7‐tetrahydrothieno[2,3‐c]‐pyridine‐3,6‐dicarboxylate 2 , prepared from diethyl 2‐isothiocyanato‐4,5,6,7‐tetrahydrothieno[2,3‐c]pyridine‐3,6‐dicarboxylate 1 by boiling in anhydrous ethanol, was converted into pyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d]pyrimidine derivatives 3, 4 by treatment with hydrazine hydrate. The tetracyclic systems imidazo[1,2‐a]pyrido‐[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d]pyrimidine 9 and pyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d][1,3]thiazolo‐[3,2‐a]pyrimidine 10 were synthesized by the reaction of 2 with 1,2‐diaminoethane and aminoethanethiol, respectively. The hydrazino derivative 4 underwent cyclization reactions with orthoesters and nitrous acid to give the corresponding pyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5‐a]pyrimidines 5, 6 and pyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2‐e][1,2,3,4]tetrazolo[1,5‐a]pyrimidine 8 , respectively. Moreover, reactions of 3 with cyanogen bromide, N‐carbethoxyhydrazine, carbon disulfide, and ethylchloroformate resulted in the formation of the new pyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d][1,3,4]thiadiazolo[3,2‐a]pyrimidine derivatives 12–15 . © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Donor-acceptor copolymers from cyclopentannulation polymerizations with dicyclopenta[cd,jk]pyrene and dicyclopenta[cd,lm] perylene acceptors

A series of donor-acceptor copolymers with dicyclopenta[cd,jk]pyrene and dicyclopenta[cd,lm]perylene acceptor units was prepared via palladium catalyzed cyclopenta-annulation reactions. The acceptor units were paired with diethynyl containing donor groups based on benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b’]dithiophene, thieno[3,2-b]thiophene, and 4-octyl-4H-dithieno[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]pyrrole to create six polymer variants. The cyclopentannulation polymerization resulted in copolymers with molecular weights (Mn) of 6–14 kDa and broad light absorption in the visible region with band gaps of 1.38–1.85 eV. The synthetic methodology, as well as optoelectronic properties, including thin-film absorption and cyclic voltammetry, of the donor-acceptor copolymers are presented.     

Synthesis and structure of alkyl-substituted fused thiophenes containing up to seven rings

We have established a series of synthetic methods to synthesize alkyl-substituted fused thiophenes with degrees of fusion from two to seven rings. These fused thiophene ring compounds have very good solubility in common organic solvents, making possible the solution processing of these compounds for electronic applications. The UV absorption of these fused thiophenes is blue-shifted when compared with their hydrocarbon counterparts. The larger band gaps result in much better stability. Single-crystal X-ray results for 3,6-didecanyldithieno[2,3-d:2',3'-d']thieno[3,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene (FT5) and 3,7-didecanylthieno[3,2-b]thieno[2',3':4,5]thieno[2,3-d]thiophene (FT4) demonstrate that both compounds form pi-stacking structures instead of a herringbone-type of packing motif. This more favorable pi-stacked structure may lead to better material electronic properties such as mobility in devices fabricated with these compounds.     

Planar beta-linked oligothiophenes based on thieno[3,2-b]thiophene and dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophene fused units

A series of planar beta-linked oligothiophenes based on thieno[3,2-b]thiophene and dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophene fused units were synthesized. The optical data indicate a blue shift of the absorption maximum in comparison to the alpha-linked analogues due to cross-conjugation between fused rings. The crystal structures of 3,3'-bi(thieno[3,2-b]thiophene) and 3,3';6',3"-ter(thieno-[3,2-b]thiophene) reveal edge-to-face pi-stacked dimer motifs, whereas the crystal structure of 3,3'-bis(dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophene) consists of face-to-face pi-stacked molecules. A CONVENIENT SYNTHESIS OF NEW PYRIDOTHIENOPYRIMIDIN-4 (3H) ONES AND PYRIDOTHIENOPYRIMIDIN-2, 4(1H, 3H) DIONES

New derivatives of 2-substituted pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyri-midin-4(3H) ones and 3-substituted pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyri-midin-2,4(1H,3H) diones have been prepared by base catalyzed cyclocondensation of ethyl-3-aminothieno[3,2-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate with aryl nitriles and aryl- or alkyl isocyanates respectively.     

An efficient synthesis of novel pyridothieno-fused thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidinones via Pictet–Spengler reaction

An efficient method for the synthesis of novel pyrido[3',2':4',5']thieno[3',2':2,3]pyrido [4,5:d][1,3]thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine-4-one derivatives (5) has been developed using a Pictet-Spengler reaction between 2-(3-aminothieno[2,3-b]pyridin-2-yl)thiazolo[3,2-a] pyrimidin-5-one (3), which could be obtained from the condensation of 7-(chloromethyl)-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-one (1) with 3-cyanopyridine-2-thione (2) via Thorpe-Ziegler isomerization, and aromatic aldehydes under NH₂SO₃H as catalysis in good yields.     

Synthesis and Properties of Derivatives of the new Heterocyclic System Benz[4,5]imidazo[1,2-c]pyrido[3',2';4,5]thieno[2,3-e]pyrimidine

Derivatives of a new heterocyclic system - benz[4,5]imidazo[1,2-c]pyrido[3',2';4,5]thieno[2,3-e]pyrimidine have been obtained by successive reactions in three stages - alkylation of 3-cyanopyridine-2(1H)-thiones with 2-chloromethylbenzylimidazole to give 2-benzimidazolylmethylthio-3-cyanopyridines, closing the thiophene ring in the latter to form 3-amino-2-(benzimidazolyl-2)thieno[2,3-b]pyridines, and cyclization of the pyrimidine ring by acylation with carboxylic acid anhydrides or chlorides.     

A Convenient Synthesis for Some New Pyrido[4′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidines and Related Fused 1,2,4-Triazolo and 1,3,4-Thiadiazolo-derivatives

Diethyl 2-isothiocyanato-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[2,3-c]pyridine-3,6 dicarboxylate 1 is a convenient and useful starting matrial for the constructions of heterocyclic systems. It was utilized to synthesize derivatives of the novel heterocyclic systems pyrido[4',3':4,5]thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine 4 , 10 , pyrido[4',3':4,5]thieno[2,3-d]-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine 7 , 11a-e and pyrido[4',3':4,5]thieno[2,3-d][1,3,4]thiadiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine 12-14 .     

4-(10-Methyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)-1,4-dihydropyridines, 4,5-dihydroindeno[1,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]-and 5,5-dioxo-4,5-dihydrobenzo-thieno[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]pyridines

Different modifications of the Hantzsch synthesis using 10-methyl-10H-phenothiazine-3-carbaldehyde gave 4-(10-methyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)-substituted 1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-di-, 5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-indeno[1,2-b]pyridine-, and 5,5-dioxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-5λ⁶-benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2-b]pyridine-3-carboxylic esters. __________ Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 2, pp. 280–288, February, 2007.     

Conjugated ladder-type heteroacenes bearing pyrrole and thiophene ring units: facile synthesis and characterization

Ladder-type heteroacenes containing pyrrole and thiophene rings, dibenzo[b,b']thieno[2,3-f:5,4-f']-carbazoles (DBTCZ, 1), and diindolo[3,2-b:2',3'-h]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']bis[1]benzothiophene (DIBBBT, 2), were facilely synthesized through proper precursors (7, 11, and 18) respectively. The key step is a triflic acid induced intramolecular electrophilic coupling reaction of corresponding aromatic methyl sulfoxides with activated aromatic building blocks, which enables regioselective ring closure. Both precursors (7 and 11) toward DBTCZ gave the symmetrical product but with solubilizing alkyl chains in two different fashions. DIBBBT was also synthesized as the extended ladder-type heteroacene with defined structure. These obtained heteroacenes are fully characterized (mass spectrometry, NMR, elemental analysis), and their X-ray analysis and optical and electrochemical properties are reported.     

Derivatives of Condensed Thienopyrimidimines. 13. Synthesis and Structure of Pyrano[4',3':4,5]thieno[3,2-e]-1,2,4-triazolo[2,3-c]pyrimidines

Methods for the synthesis of 5-substituted 10,10-dimethyl-10,11-dihydro-8H-pyrano[4',3':4,5]thieno[3,2-e]-1,2,4-triazolo[2,3-c]pyrimidines have been developed. An X-ray crystallographic study of 5-(2-ethoxymethylhydrazino)-10,10-dimethyl-10,11-dihydro-8H-pyrano[4',3':4,5]thieno[3,2-e]-1,2,4-triazolo[2,3-c]pyrimidine has been carried out.     

Synthesis of Hexa- and Octahydropyrido[3'2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidines

The reaction of N-methylmorpholinium 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-5-cyano-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyridine-6-thiolate with chloroacetamide in DMF in the presence of an excess of KOH gave 3-amino-2-carbamoyl-4-(2-chlorophenyl)-6-oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[2,3-b]pyridine. Refluxing the latter with acyl chlorides in AcOH or heating in formic acid gave hexahydropyrido[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine derivatives and reaction with cyclohexanone gave a spiro-linked octahydropyrido[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine.     

Synthesis of some fused heterocycles based on thieno[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]pyridine and their antimicrobial activity

The reaction of 3-amino-4,6-dimethylthieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carbonitrile with ethylenediamine in the presence of a catalytic amount of carbon disulfide afforded 2-(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4,6-dimethylthieno-[2,3-b]pyridine-3-amine while its reaction with triethyl orthoformate followed by the reaction with hydrazine hydrate gave 4-imino-7,9-dimethylpyrido[3',2':4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine-3(4H)-amine. These two derivatives underwent cyclocondensation reactions with commercially available reactants to afford new heterocycles containing the thieno[2,3-b]pyridine moiety. Some of the synthesized derivatives were tested for antimicrobial and antifungal activity.     

Structural effects on the electronic properties of extended fused-ring thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine analogues

The synthesis and characterization of the extended thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine analogues acenaphtho[1,2-b]thieno[3,4-e]pyrazine (3a), 3,4-dibromoacenaphtho[1,2-b]thieno[3,4-e]pyrazine (3b), 3-octylacenaphtho[1,2-b]thieno[3,4-e]pyrazine (3c), dibenzo[f,h]thieno[3,4-b]quinoxaline (4), and thieno[3',4':5,6]pyrazino[2,3-f][1,10]phenanthroline (5) are reported. Comparison of structural, electrochemical, and photophysical properties to those of simple thieno[3,4-b]pyrazines are provided in order to provide structure-function relationships within this series of compounds.     

Synthesis and reactivity of 3-amino-9-methoxymethyl-7-methyl-3,4-dihydropyrido-[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ones

The reaction of acyl derivatives of ethyl 3-aminothieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate with hydrazine hydrate gives a series of tricyclic 3-amino-3,4-dihydropyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ones containing aliphatic, aromatic, or heteroaromatic fragments at C₍₂₎.
