Background

Rupture of brain aneurysms is associated with high fatality and morbidity rates. Through remodeling of the collagen matrix, many aneurysms can remain unruptured for decades, despite an enlarging and evolving geometry.

Objective

Our objective was to explore this adaptive remodeling for the first time in an elastase induced aneurysm model in rabbits.

Methods

Saccular aneurysms were created in 22 New Zealand white rabbits and remodeling was assessed in tissue harvested 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after creation.

Results

The intramural principal stress ratio doubled after aneurysm creation due to increased longitudinal loads, triggering a remodeling response. A distinct wall layer with multi-directional collagen fibers developed between the media and adventitia as early as 2 weeks, and in all cases by 4 weeks with an average thickness of 50.6?±?14.3 μm. Collagen fibers in this layer were multi-directional (AI?=?0.56?±?0.15) with low tortuosity (1.08?±?0.02) compared with adjacent circumferentially aligned medial fibers (AI?=?0.78?±?0.12) and highly tortuous adventitial fibers (1.22?±?0.03). A second phase of remodeling replaced circumferentially aligned fibers in the inner media with longitudinal fibers. A structurally motivated constitutive model with both remodeling modes was introduced along with methodology for determining material parameters from mechanical testing and multiphoton imaging.

Conclusions

A new mechanism was identified by which aneurysm walls can rapidly adapt to changes in load, ensuring the structural integrity of the aneurysm until a slower process of medial reorganization occurs. The rabbit model can be used to evaluate therapies to increase aneurysm wall stability.

Background

Mouse models of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and dissection have proven to be invaluable in the advancement of diagnostics and therapeutics by providing a platform to decipher response variables that are elusive in human populations. One such model involves systemic Angiotensin II (Ang-II) infusion into low density-lipoprotein receptor-deficient (LDLr?/?) mice leading to intramural thrombus formation, inflammation, matrix degradation, dilation, and dissection. Despite its effectiveness, considerable experimental variability has been observed in AAAs taken from our Ang-II infused LDLr?/? mice (n?=?12) with obvious dissection occurring in 3 samples, outer bulge radii ranging from 0.73 to 2.12 mm, burst pressures ranging from 155 to 540 mmHg, and rupture location occurring 0.05 to 2.53 mm from the peak bulge location.

Objective

We hypothesized that surface curvature, a fundamental measure of shape, could serve as a useful predictor of AAA failure at supra-physiological inflation pressures.

Methods

To test this hypothesis, we fit well-known biquadratic surface patches to 360o micro-mechanical test data and used Spearman’s rank correlation (rho) to identify relationships between failure metrics and curvature indices.

Results

We found the strongest associations between burst pressure and the maximum value of the first principal curvature (rho?=??0.591, p-val?=?0.061), the maximum value of Mean curvature (rho?=??0.545, p-val?=?0.087), and local values of Mean curvature at the burst location (rho?=??0.864, p-val?=?0.001) with only the latter significant after Bonferroni correction. Additionally, the surface profile at failure was predominantly convex and hyperbolic (saddle-shaped) as indicated by a negative sign in the Gaussian curvature. Findings reiterate the importance of shape in experimental models of AAA.

A more thorough understanding of the properties of bulk material structures in solid–liquid separation processes is essential to understand better and optimize industrially established processes, such as cake filtration, whose process outcome is mainly dependent on the properties of the bulk material structure. Here, changes of bulk properties like porosity and permeability can originate from local variations in particle size, especially for non-spherical particles. In this study, we mix self-similar fractions of crushed, irregularly shaped Al2O3 particles (20 to 90 µm and 55 to 300 µm) to bimodal distributions. These mixtures vary in volume fraction of fines (0, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 100 vol.%). The self-similarity of both systems serves the improved parameter correlation in the case of multimodal distributed particle systems. We use nondestructive 3D X-ray microscopy to capture the filter cake microstructure directly after mechanical dewatering, whereby we give particular attention to packing structure and particle–particle relationships (porosity, coordination number, particle size and corresponding hydraulic isolated liquid areas). Our results reveal widely varying distributions of local porosity and particle contact points. An average coordination number (here 5.84 to 6.04) is no longer a sufficient measure to describe the significant bulk porosity variation (in our case, 40 and 49%). Therefore, the explanation of the correlation is provided on a discrete particle level. While individual particles?<?90 µm had only two or three contacts, others?>?100 µm took up to 25. Due to this higher local coordination number, the liquid load of corresponding particles (liquid volume/particle volume) after mechanical dewatering increases from 0.48 to 1.47.

Background

While near surface residual stress (NSRS) from milling is a driver for distortion in aluminum parts there are few studies that directly compare available techniques for NSRS measurement.

Objective

We report application and assessment of four different techniques for evaluating residual stress versus depth in milled aluminum parts.

Methods

The four techniques are: hole-drilling, slotting, cos(α) x-ray diffraction (XRD), and sin2(ψ) XRD, all including incremental material removal to produce a stress versus depth profile. The milled aluminum parts are cut from stress-relieved plate, AA7050-T7451, with a range of table and tool speeds used to mill a large flat surface in several samples. NSRS measurements are made at specified locations on each sample.

Results

Resulting data show that NSRS from three techniques are in general agreement: hole-drilling, slotting, and sin2(ψ) XRD. At shallow depths (<?0.03 mm), sin2(ψ) XRD data have the best repeatability (<?15 MPa), but at larger depths (>?0.04 mm) hole-drilling and slotting have the best repeatability (<?10 MPa). NSRS data from cos(α) XRD differ from data provided by other techniques and the data are less repeatable. NSRS data for different milling parameters show that the depth of NSRS increases with feed per tooth and is unaffected by cutting speed.

Conclusion

Hole-drilling, slotting, and sin2(ψ) XRD provided comparable results when assessing milling-induced near surface residual stress in aluminum. Combining a simple distortion test, comprising removal of a 1 mm thick wafer at the milled surface, with a companion stress analysis showed that NSRS data from hole-drilling are most consistent with milling-induced distortion.

Background

Hypertension drives myocardial remodeling, leading to changes in structure, composition and mechanical behavior, including residual stress, which are linked to heart disease progression in a gender-specific manner. Emerging therapies are also targeting constituent-specific pathological features. All previous studies, however, have characterized remodeling in the intact tissue, rather than isolated tissue constituents, and did not include sex as a biological variable.

Objective

In this study we first identified the contribution of collagen fiber network and myocytes to the myocardial residual stress/strain in Dahl-Salt sensitive rats fed with high fat diet. Then, we quantified the effect of hypertension on the remodeling of the left ventricle (LV), as well as the existence of sex-specific remodeling features.

Methods

We performed mechanical tests (opening angle, ring-test) and histological analysis on isolated constituents and intact tissue of the LV. Based on the measurements from the tests, we performed a stress analysis to evaluate the residual stress distribution. Statistical analysis was performed to identify the effects of constituent isolation, elevated blood pressure, and sex of the animal on the experimental measurements and modeling results.

Results

Hypertension leads to reduced residual stress/strain in the intact tissue, isolated collagen fibers, and isolated myocytes in male and female rats. Collagen remains the largest contributor to myocardial residual stress in both normotensive and hypertensive animals. We identified sex-differences in both hypertensive and normotensive animals.

Conclusions

We observed both constituent- and sex-specific remodeling features in the LV of an animal model of hypertension.

Background

Measurement precision and uncertainty estimation are important factors for all residual stress measurement techniques. The values of these quantities can help to determine whether a particular measurement technique would be viable option.

Objective

This paper determines the precision of hole-drilling residual stress measurement using repeatability studies and develops an updated uncertainty estimator.

Methods

Two repeatability studies were performed on test specimens extracted from aluminum and titanium shot peened plates. Each repeatability study included 12 hole-drilling measurements performed using a bespoke automated milling machine. Repeatability standard deviations were determined for each population. The repeatability studies were replicated using a commercially available manual hole-drilling milling machine (RS-200, Micro-Measurements). An updated uncertainty estimator was developed and was assessed using an acceptance criterion. The acceptance criterion compared an expected percentage of points (68%) to the fraction of points in the stress versus depth profile where the measured stresses ± its total uncertainty contained the mean stress of the repeatability studies.

Results

Both repeatability studies showed larger repeatability standard deviations at the surface that decay quickly (over about 0.3 mm). The repeatability standard deviation was significantly smaller in the aluminum plate (max ≈ 15 MPa, RMS?≈?6.4 MPa) than in the titanium plate (max ≈ 60 MPa, RMS?≈?21.0 MPa). The repeatability standard deviations were significantly larger when using the manual milling machine in the aluminum plate (RMS?≈?21.7 MPa), and for the titanium plate (RMS?≈?18.9 MPa).

Conclusions

The single measurement uncertainty estimate met a defined acceptance criterion based on the confidence interval of the uncertainty estimate.

Background

Pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) is a complex disorder that can lead to right heart failure. The generation of caveolin-1 deficient mice (CAV-1?/?) has provided an alternative genetic model to study the mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension. However, the vascular adaptations in these mice have not been characterized.

Objective

To determine the histological and functional changes in the pulmonary and carotid arteries in CAV-1?/? induced PAH.

Methods

Pulmonary and carotid arteries of young (4–6 months old) and mature (9–12 months old) CAV-1?/? mice were tested and compared to normal wild type mice.

Results

Artery stiffness increases in CAV-1?/? mice, especially the circumferential stiffness of the pulmonary arteries. Increases in stiffness were quantified by a decrease in circumferential stretch and transition strain, increases in elastic moduli, and an increase in total strain energy at physiologic strains. Changes in mechanical properties for the pulmonary artery correlated with increased collagen content while changes in the carotid artery correlated with decreased elastin content.

Conclusions

We demonstrated that an increase in artery stiffness is associated with CAV-1 deficiency-induced pulmonary hypertension. These results improve our understanding of arterial remodeling in PAH.

Background

Subsurface mechanisms can greatly affect the mechanical behavior of biological materials, but observation of these mechanisms has remained elusive primarily due to unfavorable optical characteristics. Researchers attempt to overcome these limitations by performing experiments in biological mimics like hydrogels, but measurements are generally restricted due to the spatio-temporal limitations of current methods.

Objective

Utilization of contemporary 3D printing techniques into soft, transparent, aqueous yield-stress materials have opened new avenues of approach to overcoming these roadblocks. By incorporating digital image correlation with such 3D printing techniques, a method is shown here that can acquire full-field deformation of a hydrogel subsurface in real-time.

Methods

Briefly, the method replaces the solvent of a transparent and low polymer concentration yield-stress material with an aqueous hydrogel precursor solution, then a DIC speckle plane is 3D printed into it. This complex is then polymerized using photoinitiation thereby locking the speckle plane in place.

Results

Full-field deformation measurements are made in real-time as the embedded speckle plane (ESP) responds with the bulk to the applied load. Example results of deformation and strain fields associated with indentation, relaxation, and sliding contact experiments are shown.

Conclusions

This method has successfully observed the subsurface mechanical response in the bulk of a hydrogel and has the potential to answer fundamental questions regarding biological material mechanical behaviors.

Background

Polymer mechanics and characterization is an active area of research where a keen effort is directed towards gaining a predictive and correlative relationship between the applied loads and the specific conformational motions of the macromolecule chains.

Objective

Therefore, the objective of this research is to introduce the preliminary results based on a novel technique to in situ probe the mechanical properties of polymers using non-invasive, non-destructive, and non-contact terahertz spectroscopy.

Methods

A dielectric elastomer actuator (DEA) structure is used as the loading mechanism to avoid obscuring the beam path of transmission terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. In DEAs, the applied voltage results in mechanical stresses under the active electrode area with far-reaching stretching in the passive area. Finite element analysis is used to model and simulate the DEA to quantify the induced stresses at the observation site over a voltage range spanning from 0 V to 3000 V. Additionally, a novel analysis technique is introduced based on the Hilbert-Huang transform to exploit the time-domain signals of the ultrathin elastomeric film and to defy the limits set forth by the current state-of-the-art analysis techniques.

Results

The computational result shows a nonlinear relationship between the effective stresses and the applied voltage. Analysis of the terahertz time-domain signals shows a shift in the delay times and a decrease in signal peak amplitudes, whereas these characteristics are implicitly related to the change in the index of refraction.

Conclusions

In all, the results evidentially signify the interrelationship between the conformational changes and applied mechanical stress.

Background

High-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF)-sprayed metallic coating can be used to create a surface layer that plays a significant role in enhancing the overall strength, stiffness, and fatigue life of the treated material. The micro-deformation around a single impacted particle is a critical factor that must be considered for the optimization of the HVOF process.

Objective

In this study, the micro-deformation field of stainless steel impacted by a ceramic particle was characterized at the micro-scale.

Method

A grid with a frequency of 1200 lines/mm was fabricated on the surface of stainless steel specimen. The microscopic deformation field formed on the substreate surface, induced by the impact of micro-particles with a diameter of 18 µm, was determined using the electron moiré method and numerical simulations.

Results

The in-plane plastic strain around the impacted particle was found to be as high as 9.1%, and the value sharply decreased with the increase of the distance to the edge of the impacted particle. The diameter of the plastic area was about 40 µm, which was approximately 2.2 times larger than the particle size. The experimental results were compared with numerical simulation results, and good agreement between the results was found.

Conclusions

The electron moiré technique can be a useful tool for the measurement of the deformation field induced by an impacted particle in a very local area with a size on the order of microns.

Background

This paper is Part 2 of a study on the scope of the ultrasonic Surface Reflection Method (SRM). Part 1 deals with the theoretical conditions for a satisfactory usage of this method.

Objective

This second part validates the practical feasibility and reliability of the SRM method by comparison with the conventional Transmission Method (TM) in cases where the latter is applicable.

Methods

Two experimental devices (one for SRM and one for TM) are developed and measurements of shear and bulk moduli are carried out at ultrasonic frequency (610 kHz) and at room temperature.

Results

The experimental conditions in terms of sample geometry, pulse characteristics and interfacial transmission required to obtain a given accuracy on the measurement are stated. The SRM is then validated against other experimental methods and is used to determine the shear modulus of a carbon black filled neoprene at ambient temperature (T?=?21 °C) and ultrasonic frequency.

Conclusions

The benefit brought by this method is well demonstrated: a unique measurement allows the determination of all the moduli of a highly damping isotropic material (carbon black filled neoprene) not achievable by other methods.

Dynamic fracture initiation toughness of marble was tested using two types of the holed-cracked flattened Brazilian disc (HCFBD) specimens, which were diametrically impacted at the flat end of the disc by the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) of 100 mm diameter. One type of the discs is geometrically similar with different outside diameter of 42 mm, 80 mm, 122 mm and 155 mm respectively, and with crack length being half the diameter; another type of the discs has identical 80 mm diameter and different crack length. Issues associated with determination of the stress wave loading by the SHPB system and the crack initiation time in the disc specimen were resolved using strain gage technique. The stress waves recorded on the bars and the disc failure patterns are shown and explained. The tested dynamic fracture toughness increases obviously with increasing diameter for the geometrically similar HCFBD specimens. It changes moderately for the one-size specimens of identical diameter and different crack length. The size effect of rock dynamic fracture toughness is mainly caused by the fracture process zone length l and fracture incubation time τ, the latter being an additional influencing factor for the dynamic loading as compared with the counterpart static situation. Hence a method is proposed to determine a unique value for the dynamic fracture initiation toughness, the approach takes average of the local distribution and time history for dynamic stress intensity factor in the spatial-temporal domain, which is defined by l and τ jointly. In this way the dynamic size effect is minimized.  相似文献

Background

Images from scanning electron microscopes, transmission electron microscopes and atomic force microscopes have been widely used in digital image correlation methods to obtain accurate full-field deformation profiles of tested objects and investigate the object’s deformation mechanism. However, because of the raster-scanning imaging mode used in microscopic observation equipment, the images obtained from these instruments can only be used for quasi-static displacement measurements; otherwise, spurious displacements and strains may be introduced into the deformation results if these scanning microscopic images are used directly in general digital image correlation calculations for moving and temporally deformed surfaces.

Objective

Realizing kinematic parameter and dynamic deformation measurements on a scanning electron microscope platform.

Methods

Establishing a scanning imaging model of moving and temporally deformed objects that contains motion and deformation equations, a scanning equation and an intensity invariance assumption for small deformations. Then proposing a scanning-digital image correlation (S-DIC) method based on combing the characteristics of the scanning imaging mode with digital image correlation.

Results

Quantitatively investigating the effects of the spurious displacements and strains introduced when using scanning images to represent moving and temporally deformed surfaces in the measurement results. Numerical simulations verify that the accuracy of the S-DIC method is 10?2pix for the displacement, 10?4 for the strain, 10?4pix/s for the velocity and 10?6s?1 for the strain rate. Experiments also show that the proposed S-DIC method is effective. Conclusions: The results of this work demonstrate the utility of S-DIC on the field of microscopic dynamic measurement.

Background

The study of the deformation of curved rods subjected to bending and its associated stress state is a complex task that has not been treated in depth in the literature, which makes difficult to obtain constitutive models or Finite Element Models (FEM) in which it is necessary to know all the components of the stress and strain tensors.

Objectives

This study focuses on a new calculation methodology to obtain stress and strain tensors of curved rods under bending.

Methods

The stress and strain tensors have been determined based on the theory of continuum mechanics and differential geometry of curves (moving bases), in a general methodology and valid for large strains, curved geometries and variable cross-sections along the specimen. This has been applied to the human rib and, in addition, a new experimental method for bending of curved specimens based on Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is presented.

Results

Both the test method and the proposed calculations applied to the human rib show results according to expectations, allowing to know the rib curvature changes along the test, the stresses and strains along the rib and the components of both stress and strain in all directions, in order to build the stress and strain tensors. In addition, the results of stress, strain and young’s modulus correspond to those of previous literature in tensile testing of human rib cortical bone.

Conclusions

The proposed calculations allow the construction of the strain and stress tensors of a curved specimen subjected to bending, which is of great importance for the development of constitutive models. Moreover, since with this method it is possible to calculate both tensors along the entire length of the specimen and in all directions, it is possible to apply this method in finite element models. Finally, the new test methodology allows to know the stress and strain in curved specimens such as the human rib, from bending tests.

Background

Optical metrology is widely used to measure materials’ deformation and mechanical properties but current fundamental research requires more precise measurement of microstructure and deformation in internal materials. Electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) technique measures crystal orientation in individual grain and high resolution EBSD (HR-EBSD) method provides information about residual strain and GND density.

Objective

Deformation of two stainless steels Nitronic 60 and Tristelle 5183 with different proportions of ferrite and carbides are characterised.

Methods

Push-release bend testing was used to provide progressive increasing bending stress in two iron-based material samples. HR-EBSD and high resolution digital image correlation (HR-DIC) methods characterised residual strain, GND density and plastic strain distributions in each sample.

Results

Nitronic 60 and Tristelle 5183 were deformed and obtained 3.8% and 0.9% plastic strain ?xx. High GND densities distributed neighbouring grain boundaries in Nitronic 60 while high GND densities distributed around carbides, especially intragranular carbides in Tristelle 5183.

Conclusions

HR-EBSD and HR-DIC quantitative characterised deformation in two iron-based alloys, grain/twin boundaries and carbides resulted in GND density increase, promoted work hardening and accumulated high residual elastic strain. Heterogeneous grain/carbide size distribution leaded to stress concentration and cause carbide decohesion and brittle fracture of sample.

Hydraulic flow, electrical flow and the passage of elastic waves through porous media are all linked by electrokinetic processes. In its simplest form, the passage of elastic waves through the porous medium causes fluid to flow through that medium and that flow gives rise to an electrical streaming potential and electrical counter-current. These processes are frequency-dependent and governed by coupling coefficients which are themselves frequency-dependent. The link between fluid pressure and fluid flow is described by dynamic permeability, which is characterised by the hydraulic coupling coefficient (Chp). The link between fluid pressure and electrical streaming potential is characterised by the streaming potential coefficient (Csp). While the steady-state values of such coefficients are well studied and understood, their frequency dependence is not. Previous work has been confined to unconsolidated and disaggregated materials such as sands, gravels and soils. In this work, we present an apparatus for measuring the hydraulic and streaming potential coefficients of high porosity, high permeability consolidated porous media as a function of frequency. The apparatus operates in the range 1 Hz to 2 kHz with a sample of 10 mm diameter and 5–30 mm in length. The full design and validation of the apparatus are described together with the experimental protocol it uses. Initial data are presented for three samples of Boise sandstone, which present as dispersive media with the critical transition frequency of 918.3?±?99.4 Hz. The in-phase and in-quadrature components of the measured hydraulic and streaming potential coefficients have been compared to the Debye-type dispersion model as well as theoretical models based on bundles of capillary tubes and porous media. Initial results indicate that the dynamic permeability data present an extremely good fit to the capillary bundle and Debye-type dispersion models, while the streaming potential coefficient presents an extremely good fit to all of the models up to the critical transition frequency, but diverges at higher frequencies. The streaming potential coefficient data are best fitted by the Pride model and its Walker and Glover simplification. Characteristic pore size values calculated from the measured critical transition frequency fell within 1.73% of independent measures of this parameter, while the values calculated directly from the Packard model showed an underestimation by about 12%.

Background

The inverse relationship between muscle stress and cross-sectional area in cardiac preparations has repeatedly been reported in intact twitching muscles. However, the critical muscle size at which diffusion-limited delivery of oxygen begins to compromise muscle stress development is smaller than what is predicted by a mathematical model of muscle oxygenation.

Objective

In a twitching muscle, while oxygenation is vital, muscle stress production is modulated by a number of other cellular processes including contractile activation and mitochondrial respiration. The objective of this study is to investigate whether these two factors can reconcile the discrepancy between predicted and observed critical muscle sizes.

Methods

In a paired experimental design, we have subjected intact rat right-ventricular trabeculae of various sizes to electrical stimulation at 2 Hz followed by either barium contracture to maximise contractile activation, or calcium contracture following muscle permeabilisation to directly supply ATP in order to obviate mitochondrial respiration.

Results

We found that the inverse relationship between muscle stress and cross-sectional area was preserved in both of these contracture modes. While, in both cases, the stresses were higher than those from twitching trabeculae, owing to higher levels of muscle activation, there was only a small increase in the critical muscle size at which stress begins to decline.

Conclusions

Our findings show that neither contractile activation nor mitochondrial respiration contributes significantly to the discrepancy between predicted and reported critical muscle sizes. Nevertheless, what is revealing is that the inverse relation between stress and muscle size in intact twitching muscles was also obtained in muscles subjected to barium and calcium contracture.

The effects of rotating magnetic field (RMF) on the three-dimensional thermocapillary flow of semiconductor melt (Pr?=?0.01) in a floating half-zone model under microgravity are investigated numerically by the finite volume method. The results indicate that the thermocapillary flow without magnetic field is a steady three-dimensional convection for Ma?=?40 in a floating half-zone model with As?=?1, and the convection evolves to an oscillatory three-dimensional flow by applying 1–6?mT RMF with 50?Hz rotating frequency. Based on the fast Fourier transform spectrum, the convection is confirmed to be a periodically oscillating flow, the oscillatory main frequency, 1.59?×?10?3?Hz for 1?mT RMF and 5.84?×?10?2?Hz for 6?mT RMF, increases with the magnetic strength. However, with increasing the magnetic field strength up to 7?mT, the three-dimensional thermocapillary flow is effectively controlled and the convection turns into a steady axisymmetrical one.  相似文献

The heat transfer, pressure drop and flow patterns during flow boiling of R407C in a horizontal microfin tube have been investigated. The microfin tube is made of copper with a total fin number of 55 and a helix angle of 15°. The fin height is 0.24 mm and the inner tube diameter at fin root is 8.95 mm. The test tube is 1 m long. It is heated electrically. The experiments have been performed at saturation temperatures between −30°C and +10°C. The mass flux was varied between 25 and 300 kg/m2/s, the heat flux from 20,000 W/m2 down to 1,000 W/m2. The vapour quality was kept constant at 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 at the inlet and 0.8, 1.0 at the outlet, respectively. The measured heat transfer coefficient is compared with the correlations of Cavallini et al., Shah as well as Zhang et al. Cavallini’s correlation contains seven experimental constants. After fitting these constants to our measured values, the correlation achieves good agreement. The measured pressure drop is compared to the correlations of Pierre, Kuo and Wang as well as Müller-Steinhagen and Heck. The best agreement is achieved with the correlation of Kuo and Wang. Almost all values are calculated within an accuracy of ±30%. The flow regimes were observed. It is shown, that changes in the flow regime affect the heat transfer coefficient significantly.  相似文献

Background Uncertainty quantifications are required for any measurement result to be meaningful.

Objective The present work aims at deriving and comparing a priori estimates of displacement uncertainties in T3-stereocorrelation for a setup to perform high temperature tests.

Methods Images acquired prior to the actual experiment (i.e.,at room temperature) were registered using 3-noded triangular elements (T3-stereocorrelation) to determine displacement uncertainties for different positions of the experimental setup.

Results The displacement uncertainties were then compared to their a priori estimates.

Conclusions For the analyzed experiment, it is shown that noise floor estimates only differed by a factor 2 when compared to a posteriori measurements of standard displacement uncertainties.
