A simple configuration for the reduction of stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold in photonic crystal fiber is presented. The threshold reduction is contributed by the bidirectional pumping scheme through the reflection of transmitted Brillouin pump back to the gain medium. The pump recycling scheme has greatly reduced the Brillouin threshold of a 200-m long of photonic crystal fiber from 50 to 30 mW of Brillouin pump power.  相似文献

We have developed a theoretical approach to simulate stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) generation in photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The threshold condition for the SBS occurrence has been derived as a function of fiber parameters and input pump power. A particular emphasis is given to the influence of the input pump power and fiber length on the Brillouin gain in the PCF. To assess threshold pump power accurately, the pump depletion effect has been included by employing the 1% criterion. This simulation can anticipate the Brillouin threshold gain value precisely. The threshold gain varies from 14 to 18 depending on the PCF length.  相似文献

We demonstrate that we realize large-delay slow light based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in a short length of our fabricated small-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The cavity effect from the partially reflective splices in the end of the PCF enhances slow-light delay significantly. Our experiments show that large slow-light delay can be easily realized in a very short length of the PCF with a moderate pump power. Up to a one-half pulse-width delay is achieved in only 50 m of PCF in a single pump segment.  相似文献

推导了光子晶体光纤中声波微小位移波动方程; 研究了泵浦波长以及纤芯折射率对声波模式的影响; 应用石英圆柱模型研究了小芯径光子晶体光纤中纤芯直径对布里渊声波模式色散的影响. 结果表明在光子晶体光纤中, 纵向声波和横向声波共同作用产生质点声场, 两者相互耦合将产生混合声波模式; 可以通过改变泵浦波长或光子晶体光纤纤芯折射率来改变参与布里渊散射(BS) 过程的声波模式的传播常数; 随着光子晶体光纤(PCF) 纤芯直径的增大, 声波模式耦合程度得到加强, 相速度呈减小趋势, 且同一传播常数下, 声波模式数呈增多趋势; 随着泵浦波频率的增大, 声波相速度减小.  相似文献

We experimentally investigate guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering in several photonic crystal fibers by use of the so-called fiber loop mirror technique and show a completely different dynamics with respect to standard all-silica fibers. In addition to the suppression of most acoustic phonons, we show that forward Brillouin scattering in photonic crystal fibers is substantially enhanced only for the fundamental acoustic phonon because of efficient transverse acousto-optic field overlap. The results of our numerical simulations reveal that this high-frequency phonon is indeed trapped within the fiber core by the air-hole microstructure, in good agreement with experimental measurements.  相似文献

利用有限元方法对纤芯中心带有一个微小空气孔的光子晶体光纤进行了分析,得到了其模场分布、损耗及色散特性随光纤结构参数及波长的变化规律.根据光的衍射原理及光子晶体光纤的传输特性,对空气孔传光的物理本质进行了解释.得到了微小空气孔低损耗、高强度、单模传输时,光子晶体光纤结构参数及波长的取值范围.设计出了一种优化的光子晶体光纤结构,其模场很好地集中在纤芯微小空气孔中,限制损耗α=5.9×10-5dB/km,为微小空气孔传光的光子晶体光纤设计及制备提供了理论指导.光在空气孔中高强度、长距离传输,为光与物质相互作用及非线性光纤光学提供了新的条件.  相似文献

Guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS) generates phase and polarization noise of light propagating in glass fibers. This excess noise affects the performance of various experiments operating at the quantum noise limit. We experimentally demonstrate the reduction of GAWBS noise in a photonic crystal fiber in a broad frequency range by tailoring the acoustic modes using the photonic also as a phononic crystal. We compare the noise spectrum to the one of a standard fiber and observe a tenfold noise reduction in the frequency range up to 200 MHz. Based on our measurement results as well as on numerical simulations, we establish a model for the reduction of GAWBS noise in photonic crystal fibers.  相似文献

We present a novel broadband dispersion compensating photonic crystal fiber with defected core in this paper. The small central defect of air hole can flexibly control the chromatic dispersion properties of this kind of photonic crystal fiber. This kind of fiber has broadband large negative chromatic dispersion, and the chromatic dispersion coefficient varies from -440 to -480 ps/(nm.km) in the measured wavelength range of 1500 - 1625 nm. The calculated chromatic dispersion curve is well matched to the measured chromatic dispersion coefficient in the range of 1500 - 1625 nm. The proposed photonic crystal fiber can be used to design the dispersion compensating fiber in the desired wavelength range by adjusting its structural parameters.  相似文献

Due to the restriction of the spatial resolution, about 1 m for current commercially available system, strain distribution measured by Brillouin optical time domain reflectometer (BOTDR) is slightly different from the actual one. In this paper, the equation of the Brillouin power spectrum for partially uniformly strained fiber within the spatial resolution is theoretically derived. Based on the derived results, investigation has been made on the shape characteristics of the superposed Brillouin power spectrum, as well as the dependence of the calculated strain of BOTDR on the actual strain of the fiber. It was found that the difference between the calculated strain and the actual strain depends mainly on the strain value of the fiber and the strained length within the spatial resolution for the given distributed sensing system.  相似文献

In this paper we report on the fabrication and characterization of an all-solid photonic band gap fiber with high contrast and low index core. The fiber cladding is composed of high index lead-silicate rods while borosilicate NC21 glass is used as a background glass. A 70 nm wide photonic band gap at 875 nm central wavelength is experimentally identified and compared with a numerical model. We also present a novel method for photonic band gap measurement using a femtosecond pulsed laser. The method is verified against standard one and discussed.  相似文献

In this paper the effect of photonic crystal fiber’s structure parameters on Rayleigh scattering was investigated. Rayleigh scattering loss (RSL) has been numerically estimated by average Rayleigh scattering coefficient based on the empirical relations for \(V\) and \(W\) parameters of double-clad photonic crystal fibers (DC PCFs). The dependence of RSL on the two structural parameters—the air hole diameter and the hole pitch was demonstrated. We have shown that RSL depends on the index profiles because of the different optical power confinement factors in every layer of DC PCF. Using these results, the RSL can be optimized by adjusting the fiber parameters—air-hole diameter as well as the air-hole pitch.  相似文献

We have demonstrated a simple ring cavity tunable multiwavelength Brillouin/Erbium fiber laser (MWBEFL), in which 70 m highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (HNL-PCF) is used as the Brillouin gain medium. The fiber laser utilizes recycling mechanism to enhance stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The configuration that consists of only 3 optical components is easy to be integrated and improves the practicality. At the maximum 1480 nm pump power of 110 mW and the Brillouin pump power of 3 dBm, 10 stable output channels with more than 10 dB optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) and 0.078 nm channel spacing could achieve 10 nm tuning ranges.  相似文献

In this work, a multiwavelength fiber Raman laser based on a highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber loop mirror is presented. A laser resonator is formed when the Raman amplification with cooperative Rayleigh scattering in a dispersion-compensating fiber is used as a distributed mirror and combined with a photonic crystal fiber loop mirror filtering structure. Stable multiwavelength lasing at room temperature is achieved due to the low temperature sensitivity of the highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber.  相似文献

We report a full modal characterization of the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) properties in small core As2Se3-based chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). Our results include the calculation of Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS), Brillouin gain coefficient (gB), Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) by taking into account the contribution of the higher-order acoustic modes. We show that for a highly nonlinear PCF having a 2-μm hole-to-hole pitch and a 0.5-μm hole diameter, a Brillouin gain coefficient gB = 5.91 10? 9 m.W? 1 is obtained around the acoustic frequency of 8.19 GHz, which is more than 340 times larger than that of the same PCF made with silica glass. We demonstrate that the BGS of small core PCF structures show strong SBS and multipeaked behavior, with a presence of a second peak, when decreasing the core diameter which is to be attributed to the higher-order acoustic modes. We designed small core PCFs with tailored Brillouin response for a wide range of applications.  相似文献

A coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscope based on a Ti:sapphire femtosecond oscillator and a photonic crystal fiber is demonstrated. The nonlinear response of the fiber is used to generate the additional wavelength needed in the Raman process. The applicability of the setup is demonstrated by imaging of micrometer-sized polystyrene beads.  相似文献

Supercontinuum from 800 to 2,600 nm has been obtained in a soft glass suspended-core photonic crystal fiber. The fiber has been fabricated using an in-house synthesized, lead-bismuth-galate oxide glass (PBG-08), which has a transmission window from 500 nm to 4,500 nm. Dispersion characteristic has been designed to enable efficient pumping in the anomalous regime, using typical telecommunication wavelengths and influence of discrepancy between design and physical dispersion profile of fiber is discussed. An optical parametric amplifier system seeded with a Ti:Sapphire oscillator has been used as a light source (70 fs pulses with 100 kHz repetition rate). Supercontinuum bandwidth on the mid-infrared side is limited by OH $^-$ absorption of the glass and presence of second zero-dispersion wavelength in the spectral area of interest. Flatness the spectrum remains under 7 dB from roughly 1,800 nm to about 2,500 nm.  相似文献

We demonstrate laser-scanning coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) imaging with two excitation laser beams delivered by a large-mode-area photonic crystal fiber. The group-velocity dispersion and self-phase modulation effects are largely suppressed due to the large mode area of the fiber and the use of picosecond pulses. The fiber delivery preserves the signal level and image spatial resolution well. High-quality images of live spinal cord tissues are acquired using the fiber-delivered laser source. Our method provides a basic platform for developing a flexible and compact CARS imaging system.  相似文献

The Brillouin gain properties in a double-clad As_2Se_3 photonic crystal fiber(PCF)are simulated based on the finite-element method(FEM).The results indicate that the Brillouin gain spectrum(BGS)of our proposed chalcogenide PCF exhibits a multipeaked behavior and has a high Brillouin gain coefficient.We also find that a larger size of inner cladding air holes will lead to a more pronounced second peak in the BGS.On the other hand,the size of the outer cladding has nearly no effect on the BGS behavior.Through these results,one can tailor the Stimulated Brillouin scattering effect in PCFs for a wide range of applications.  相似文献
