We report structural, magnetic and electronic structure study of Mn doped TiO2 thin films grown using pulsed laser deposition method. The films were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), dc magnetization, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy measurements. XRD results indicate that films exhibit single phase nature with rutile structure and exclude the secondary phase related to Mn metal cluster or any oxide phase of Mn. Magnetization studies reveal that both the films (3% and 5% Mn doped TiO2) exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism and saturation magnetization increases with increase in concentration of Mn doping. The spectral features of XMCD at Mn L3,2 edge show that Mn2+ ions contribute to the ferromagnetism. NEXAFS spectra measured at O K edge show a strong hybridization between Mn, Ti 3d and O 2p orbitals. NEXAFS spectra measured at Mn and Ti L3,2 edge show that Mn exist in +2 valence state, whereas, Ti is in +4 state in Mn doped TiO2 films.  相似文献

The Zn0.9Co0.1O films are fabricated by chemical solution deposition method. All the films have the ZnO wurtzite structure with a preferential orientation along the c-axis. The analysis of X-ray near-edge absorption spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that the valence of Co is +2, and there are oxygen vacancies in Zn0.9Co0.1O films annealed in Ar atmosphere. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure results reveal that Co2+ ions have dissolved into ZnO and substituted for Zn2+ ions. Magnetization measurements show that the film annealed in Ar exhibits ferromagnetism which can be explained by the formation of bound magnetic polarons.

We studied the magnetic properties of ultra-thin Mn films deposited on Ag (001) held at 80 K with soft X-ray absorption and magnetic circular dichroism. The observed shape and branching ratio of the Mn 2p absorption edge as a function of Mn coverage demonstrate that, up to , the Mn adopts a stable high spin state similar to the Mn atom Hund's rule 6 S 5/2 ground state. Above this coverage a rapid transition from localized high spin to itinerant low spin behavior of the Mn 3d electrons is evidenced. Magnetic circular dichroism shows no sign of long range ferromagnetic order in these films at 80 K. The data, first confirm the large atomic-like local magnetic moment, and second are in line with the in-plane antiferromagnetic order, reported recently (Phys. Rev. B 57, 1141 (1998)), for Mn in the nearly ideal on-top Mn monolayer formed by 0.9 ML deposited at 80 K. Received: 4 May 1998  相似文献

We present here new evidences of point defects enhanced ferromagnetism in Cu-doped ZnO thin films by different characterization methods. Cu-doped ZnO thin films with Cu concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 5 at.% were prepared by an inductively coupled plasma enhanced physical vapor deposition system. Room-temperature ferromagnetism is observed in all the films. The saturation magnetization shows an increasing trend with the increase of Cu concentration except a slight decrease for the 1 at.% Cu-doping. Further study performed by Raman spectra, X-ray absorption spectra and extended X-ray absorption fine structure indicate the existence of Cu2+ ions and point defects in all the films. The local structural characterization and magnetic properties reveal that the sample with larger saturation magnetization has a higher concentration of point defects.  相似文献

NiMn alloys were electrodeposited from chloride bath with various Mn content up to 10 at.%. The effect of bath composition and current density on Mn content of electrodeposited thin films was explored. A maximum of 9.8 at.% Mn content in deposited films was obtained at optimized current density of 40 mA/cm2 and MnCl2/NiCl2 concentration ratio of 2.5 in the bath. The morphology and crystal structure of deposits were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The constituents in the films were determined by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). It was revealed that the structure of NiMn coatings had an average grain size of about 17 nm. It was found that the deposits exhibited FCC structure with prefer orientation of <111>. The soft magnetic properties of electrodeposited films were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It was observed that the magnetic parameters such as coercivity and saturation magnetization were decreased with increasing of Mn in the deposits.  相似文献

Mn doped Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were prepared by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technique. Structural characterizations by X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) indicate the crystal quality of ZnO films. PL and Raman show a large fraction of oxygen vacancies (VO2+) are generated by vacuum annealed the film. The enhancement of ferromagnetism in post-annealed (Mn, In) codoped ZnO could result from VO2+ incorporation. The effect of VO2+ on the magnetic properties of (Mn, In) codoped ZnO has been studied by first-principles calculations. It is found that only In donor cannot induce ferromagnetism (FM) in Mn-doped ZnO. Besides, the presence of VO2+ makes the Mn empty 3d-t2g minority state broadened, and a t2g-VO2+ hybrid level at the conduction band minimum forms. The presence of VO2+ can lead to strong ferromagnetic coupling with the nearest neighboring Mn cation by BMP model based on defects reveal that the ferromagnetic exchange is mediated by the donor impurity state, which mainly consists of Mn 3d electrons trapped in oxygen vacancies.  相似文献

First-principles calculations have been performed to study the electronic structure and the ferromagnetic properties of the cyano-bridged bimetallic compound Mn2(H2O)5Mo(CN)7·4H2O (α phase). The calculations were based on density-functional theory and the full potential linearized augmented plane wave method (FP-LAPW). The calculated total energies revealed that the compound has a stable ferromagnetic (FM) ground state, which is in agreement with the experiments. The electronic structure of the compound has a half-metallic behavior. The calculated magnetic moment per molecule is about 15.000 μB, the magnetic moment are mainly from Mo and Mn atoms with d electronic configuration. It is also found that there exists ferromagnetic interaction between low-spin Mo2+ and high-spin Mn3+ ions through the Mo-C-N-Mn linear linkages.  相似文献

The electronic structure and interfacial chemistry of thin manganese films on p-Si (1 0 0) have been studied by photoelectron spectroscopy measurements using synchrotron radiation of 134 eV and from X-ray diffraction data. The Mn/p-Si structures have been irradiated from swift heavy ions (∼100 MeV) of Fe7+ with a fluence of 1 × 1014 ions/cm2. Evolution of valence band spectrum with a sharp Fermi edge has been obtained. The observed Mn 3d peak has been related to the bonding of Mn 3d-Si 3sp states. Mn 3p (46.4 eV), Mn 3s (81.4 eV) and Si 2p (99.5 eV) core levels have also been observed which show a binding energy shift towards lower side as compared to their corresponding elemental values. From the photoelectron spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction results, Mn5Si3 metallic phase of manganese silicide has been found. The silicide phase has been found to grow on the irradiation.  相似文献

The electronic structure of (Zn,Mn)O films with different Mn concentrations has been investigated by element-selective soft X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. The band gap narrowing of (Zn,Mn)O with increase of Mn concentration (<20% Mn) is attributed to the Mn doping and sp-d exchange interactions. According to analysis of the O Kα and resonant Mn L2,3 X-ray emission spectra, the splitting of Mn 3d subbands is related to Mn-derived states. It indicates that ferromagnetic coupling in (Zn,Mn)O can be taken into account to be carrier-induced. The presence of antiferromagnetism in the heavier Mn-doped films can be explained in terms of the existence of MnO secondary phases.  相似文献

The ground state band structure, magnetic moments, charges and population numbers of electronic shells of Cu and Fe atoms have been calculated for chalcopyrite CuFeS2 using density functional theory. The comparison between our calculation results and experimental data (X-ray photoemission, X-ray absorption and neutron diffraction spectroscopy) has been made. Our calculations predict a formal oxidation state for chalcopyrite as Cu1+Fe3+S 2 2? . However, the assignment of formal valence state to transition metal atoms appears to be oversimplified. It is anticipated that the valence state can be confirmed experimentally by nuclear magnetic and nuclear quadrupole resonance and Mössbauer spectroscopy methods.  相似文献

The thermal phase transition of RbMnFe(CN)6 has been observed by Mn and Fe 3p-1s X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and 1s X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The thermal variations of the spin states and the valences of Mn and Fe were determined to be Mn2+(S=5/2)-NC-Fe3+(S=1/2) for the high-temperature (HT) phase and Mn3+(S=2)-NC-Fe2+(S=0) for the low-temperature (LT) phase. These transitions are thus caused by charge transfer between Mn and Fe. The temperature dependences of Mn and Fe 3p-1s XES and 1s XAS were observed as the composition of the spectra of the HT and LT phases. The ratios of the HT component in each spectrum show good agreement with the thermal transition curves observed with magnetic susceptibility measurements.  相似文献

Co-doped ZnO diluted magnetic semiconductor films were prepared on Si(100) substrates by magnetron sputtering system and the Co content varies from 0.01 to 0.15. The X-ray diffraction results showed ZnO of the wurtzite structure. The ferromagnetism was observed at room temperature. The X-ray near-edge absorption spectroscopy revealed that Co substitutes for Zn2+ ions in the valence of +2 state in the Co-doped ZnO films.  相似文献

We carried out first-principles electronic structure calculation to study the structural stability and magnetic properties of Mn-doped WS2 ultra-thin films within the density functional theory. Adopting various configurations of Mn doping into WS2 bilayer, we find that the magnetic phase can be manipulated among the ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, or ferrimagnetic phases by altering doping level and growth environment. Magnetic phase and strength are determined by magnetic coupling of Mn dopants 3d electrons which can be attributed crucially to the exchange interaction mediated by neighboring S atoms 3p electrons. Accompanying to the magnetic phase transition, the electronic structure reveals that transport properties switch from semiconducting with various bandgap to half-metallic states. This result implicates possible way to develop magnetic semiconductors based on Mn doped 2D WS2 ultra-thin films for spintronics applications.  相似文献

FeCoP nanocrystalline films were successfully electrodeposited on the Cu film coated silicon substrate in the bath containing Fe2+, Co2+, as well as different concentration H2PO? ions ranging from 0.001 mol/L to 0.01 mol/L. And then the samples experienced magnetic heat treatment with different heating rates. Effects of H2PO? concentration and magnetic heat treatment on morphological, structural, and magnetic properties of the films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer, and vector network analyzer. The results suggest that the as-deposited films do not exhibit obvious in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, and interestingly after magnetic heat treatment at heating rate of 6?°C/min, the FeCoP films will possess better in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. It has been obtained that morphology and grain size play important roles in determining magnetic properties. The magnetic performance of FeCoP films with different phosphorus content can be improved by appropriate magnetic heat treatment.  相似文献

Ceramic samples of lanthanum strontium manganite perovskites La0.6Sr0.2Mn1.2 ? x Ni x O3 ± ?? (0 ?? x ?? 0.3) have been investigated using the X-ray diffraction, magnetic (??ac), 55Mn NMR, resistive, and magnetoresistive methods. The specific features of the influence of the composition on the structure and properties of nonstoichiometric manganite perovskites have been established. It has been found that the rhombohedrally (R $\bar 3$ c) distorted perovskite structure contains cation and anion vacancies, as well as nanostructured clusters with Mn2+ ions in the A-positions. The substitution of Ni3+ ions (r = 0.74 ?) for Mn3+ ions (r = 0.785 ?) leads to a decrease in the lattice parameter a, the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition temperature T C, and the metal-semiconductor phase transition temperature T ms due to the disturbance of the superexchange interactions between heterovalent manganese ions Mn3+ and Mn4+. The observed anomalous magnetic hysteresis at 77 K has been explained by the antiferromagnetic effect of the unidirectional exchange anisotropy of the ferromagnetic matrix structure on the magnetic moments of the superstoichiometric manganese Mn2+ ions located in nanostructured planar clusters. An analysis of the asymmetrically broadened 55Mn NMR spectra of the compounds has revealed a high-frequency electronic superexchange of the ions Mn3+ ? O2? ? Mn4+; a local heterogeneity of their surrounding by other ions, vacancies, and clusters; and a partial localization of Mn4+ ions. The local hyperfine interaction fields on 55Mn nuclei have been determined. The concentration dependences of the activation energy and charge hopping frequency have confirmed that the Ni ions decrease the electrical conductivity due to the weakening of the electronic superexchange Mn3+ ? O2? ? Mn4+. Two types of magnetoresistive effects have been found: one effect, which is observed near the phase transition temperatures T C and T ms, is caused by scattering at intracrystalline nanostructured heterogeneities, and the other effect, which is observed in the low-temperature range, is induced by tunneling through intercrystalline mesostructured boundaries. The phase diagram has demonstrated that there is a strong correlation between magnetic and electrical properties in rare-earth manganites.  相似文献

A comparative experimental study is presented of the electronic properties of MnSi films grown on Si(1 1 1) and of MnSi single crystals, using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and core level and valence band photoemission spectroscopy (PES). No significant differences in the electronic structure of the two systems can be found.Absorption measurements on the Mn 2p threshold show a mixed valence ground state, where the multiplet structure is washed out by the hybridisation of the Mn 3d states with the Si sp states. These results are also confirmed by photoemission (PE) spectra from the valence band and the Mn 3s, 3p and 2p core levels.Strong attention has been paid to the effect of contamination. The occurrence of multiplet effects in the absorption spectra indicates unambiguously the localisation of the Mn 3d electrons in Mn-O bonds, which strongly influences the electronic properties of these systems.  相似文献

This study has been carried out on the optical properties of polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (PVP), the energy transition process in nanocomposite of PVP capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystalline and the influence of the PVP concentration on the optical properties of the PVP capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystalline thin films synthesized by the wet chemical method. The microstructures of the samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction, the atomic absorption spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the prepared samples belonged to the sphalerite structure with the average particle size of about 2–3 nm. The optical properties of samples are studied by measuring absorption, photoluminescence (PL) spectra and time-resolved PL spectra in the wavelength range from 200 to 700 nm at 300 K. From data of the absorption spectra, the absorption edge of PVP polymer was found about of 230 nm. The absorption edge of PVP capped ZnS:Mn nanoparticles shifted from 322 to 305 nm when the PVP concentration increases. The luminescence spectra of PVP showed a blue emission with peak maximum at 394 nm. The luminescence spectra of ZnS:Mn–PVP exhibits a blue emission with peak maximum at 437 nm and an orange–yellow emission of ion Mn2+ with peak maximum at 600 nm. While the PVP coating did not affect the microstructure of ZnS:Mn nanomaterial, the PL spectra of the PVP capped ZnS:Mn samples were found to be affected strongly by the PVP concentration.  相似文献

The structure, lattice imperfection, and properties of ceramic samples La0.6 ? x Nd x Sr0.3Mn1.1O3-δ (x = 0–0.4) have been investigated using the X-ray diffraction, resistive, magnetic (χac, 55Mn NMR), magnetoresistive and microscopic methods. It has been shown that there is a satisfactory agreement between the concentration decrease in the lattice parameters a of the rhombohedral (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2) and cubic (x = 0.3, 0.4) perovskite structures and the average ionic radii $\bar R$ for the lattice containing anion vacancies, cation vacancies, and nanostructured clusters with Mn2+ ions in A-positions. With an increase in the neodymium concentration x, the vacancy-type imperfection increases, the cluster-type imperfection decreases, the temperatures of metal-semiconductor phase transition T ms and ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition T C decrease, and the content of the ferromagnetic phase decreases. The anomalous hysteresis is associated with the appearance of unidirectional exchange anisotropy induced in a clustered perovskite structure consisting of a ferromagnetic matrix and a planar antiferromagnetic cluster coherently coupled with it. An analysis of the asymmetrically broadened 55Mn NMR spectra has revealed a high-frequency electronic double exchange (Mn3+-O2?-Mn4+) ? (Mn4+-O2?-Mn3+) and an inhomogeneity of the magnetic and charge states of manganese due to the heterogeneous environment of the manganese ions by other ions and defects. The observed changes in the resonant frequency and width of the resonance curve are caused by changes in the ratio Mn3+/Mn4+ and magnetic inhomogeneity. An increase in the neodymium concentration x leads to a decrease in the ferromagnetic phase content determined from the dependences 4πNχac(T) and the 55Mn NMR curves. The phase diagram characterizes an interrelation between the composition, the imperfection of the structure, and the transport, magnetic, and magnetoresistive properties of lanthanum neodymium manganite perovskites. It has been found that there is a correlation between the imperfection, magnetic inhomogeneity, coercive force, and magnetoresistance effect exhibited by the perovskite structure.  相似文献
