An N‐confused phlorin isomer bearing a dipyrrin moiety at the α‐position of the confused pyrrole ring ( 1 ) was synthesized. PdII and BIII coordination at the peripheral prodigiosin‐like moiety of 1 afforded the corresponding complexes 2 and 3 . Reflux of 2 in triethylamine (TEA) converted the meso‐phenyl into the PdII‐coordinating phenoxy group to afford 4 . Under the same reaction conditions, TEA was linked to the α‐position of the dipyrrin unit in 3 as an N,N‐diethylaminovinyl group to afford 5 . Furthermore, peripheral coordination of BIII in 3 and 5 improved the planarity of the phlorin macrocycle and thus facilitated the coordination of AgIII at the inner cavity to afford 3‐Ag and 5‐Ag , respectively. These results provide an effective approach for developing unique porphyrinoids through peripheral coordination.  相似文献

We have prepared and characterized a series of osmium complexes [Os2(CO)4(fpbpy)2] ( 1 ), [Os(CO)(fpbpy)2] ( 2 ), and [Os(fpbpy)2] ( 3 ) with tridentate 6‐pyrazol‐3‐yl 2,2′‐bipyridine chelating ligands. Upon the transformation of complex 2 into 3 through the elimination of the CO ligand, an extremely large change in the phosphorescence wavelength from 655 to 935 nm was observed. The results are rationalized qualitatively by the strong π‐accepting character of CO, which lowers the energy of the osmium dπ orbital, in combination with the lower degree of π conjugation in 2 owing to the absence of one possible pyridine‐binding site. As a result, the energy gap for both intraligand π–π* charge transfer (ILCT) and metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (MLCT) is significantly greater in 2 . Firm support for this explanation was also provided by the time‐dependent DFT approach, the results of which led to the conclusion that the S0→T1 transition mainly involves MLCT between the osmium center and bipyridine in combination with pyrazolate‐to‐bipyridine 3π–π* ILCT. The relatively weak near‐infrared emission can be rationalized tentatively by the energy‐gap law, according to which the radiationless deactivation may be governed by certain low‐frequency motions with a high density of states. The information provided should allow the successful design of other emissive tridentate metal complexes, the physical properties of which could be significantly different from those of complexes with only a bidentate chromophore.  相似文献

The synthesis, structure and electronic properties of novel Group 6 Fischer alkoxy–bis(carbene) complexes are reported. The UV/Vis spectra of these species display two main absorptions at approximately 350 and 550 nm attributable to a ligand‐field (LF) and metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (MLCT) transitions, respectively. The planarity of the system and the cooperative effect of both pentacarbonyl metal moieties greatly enhance the conjugation between the group at the end of the spacer and the metal carbene fragment provoking dramatic changes in the LF and MLCT absorptions. This is in contrast to related push–pull Fischer monocarbenes, where the position of the MLCT band remains mostly unaltered regardless the substituent attached to the donor fragment. In addition, the MLCT maxima can be tuned with subtle modifications of the electronic nature of the central aryl fragment in the novel A–π‐D–π‐A (A=acceptor, D=donor) systems. DFT and time‐dependent (TD) DFT quantum chemical calculations at the B3LYP/def2‐SVP level have also been performed to determine the minimum‐energy molecular structure of this family of compounds and to analyse the nature of the vertical one‐electron excitations associated to the observed UV/Vis absorptions as well as to rationalise their electrochemical behaviour. The ability of tuning up the electronic properties of the compounds studied herein may be of future use in material chemistry.  相似文献

By two different routes, 4,4′′′′‐azobis[2,2′: 6′,2″‐terpyridine] was synthesized. Its ruthenium complexes show interesting metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption maxima in the electronic spectra. They represent the first ruthenium complexes of terpyridine units to give blue solutions.  相似文献

The synthesis of two series of peptidic chains composed of bis(terpyridine)ruthenium(II) acceptor units and organic chromophores (coumarin, naphthalene, anthracene, fluorene) by stepwise solid‐phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) techniques is described. The first series of dyads comprises directly amide linked chromophores, while the second one possesses a glycine spacer between the two chromophores. All dyads were studied by UV/Vis and NMR spectroscopy, steady‐state luminescence, luminescence decay and electrochemistry, as well as by DFT calculations. The results of these studies indicate weak electronic coupling of the chromophores in the ground state. Absorpion spectra of all dyads are dominated by metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (MLCT) bands around 500 nm. The bichromophoric systems, especially with coumarin as organic chromophore, display additional strong absorptions in the visible spectral region. All complexes are luminescent at room temperature (3MLCT). Efficient quenching of the fluorescence of the organic chromophore by the attached ruthenium complex is observed in all dyads. Excitation spectra indicate energy transfer from the organic dye to the ruthenium chromophore.  相似文献

The catalytic activity and catalyst recovery of two heterogenized ruthenium‐based precatalysts ( H and NO2(4) ) in diene ring‐closing metathesis have been studied by means of density functional calculations at the B3LYP level of theory. For comparison and rationalization of the key factors that lead to higher activities and higher catalyst recoveries, four other Grubbs–Hoveyda complexes have also been investigated. The full catalytic cycle (catalyst formation, propagation, and precatalyst regeneration) has been considered. DFT calculations suggest that either for the homogeneous and heterogenized systems the activity of the catalysts mainly depends on the ability of the precursor to generate the propagating carbene. This ability does not correlate with the traditionally identified key factor, the Ru???O interaction strength. In contrast, precatalysts with lower alkoxy‐dissociation energy barriers and lower stabilities compared with the propagating carbene also present larger C1? C2 bond length (i.e., lower π character of the C? C bond that exists between the metal–carbene (Ru?C) and the phenyl ring of the Hoveyda ligand). Catalyst recovery, regardless of whether a release–return mechanism occurs or not, is also mainly determined by the π delocalization. Therefore, future Grubbs–Hoveyda‐type catalyst development should be based on fine‐tuning the π‐electron density of the phenyl moiety, with the subsequent effect on the metalloaromaticity of the ruthenafurane ring, rather than considering the modification of the Ru???O interaction.  相似文献

A platinum complex with the 6‐(7‐benzothiazol‐2′‐yl‐9,9‐diethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐2,2′‐bipyridinyl ligand ( 1 ) was synthesized and the crystal structure was determined. UV/Vis absorption, emission, and transient difference absorption of 1 were systematically investigated. DFT calculations were carried out on 1 to characterize the electronic ground state and aid in the understanding of the nature of low‐lying excited electronic states. Complex 1 exhibits intense structured 1π–π* absorption at λabs<440 nm, and a broad, moderate 1M LCT/1LLCT transition at 440–520 nm in CH2Cl2 solution. A structured 3ππ*/3M LCT emission at about 590 nm was observed at room temperature and at 77 K. Complex 1 exhibits both singlet and triplet excited‐state absorption from 450 nm to 750 nm, which are tentatively attributed to the 1π–π* and 3π–π* excited states of the 6‐(7‐benzothiazol‐2′‐yl‐9,9‐diethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine ligand, respectively. Z‐scan experiments were conducted by using ns and ps pulses at 532 nm, and ps pulses at a variety of visible and near‐IR wavelengths. The experimental data were fitted by a five‐level model by using the excited‐state parameters obtained from the photophysical study to deduce the effective singlet and triplet excited‐state absorption cross sections in the visible spectral region and the effective two‐photon absorption cross sections in the near‐IR region. Our results demonstrate that 1 possesses large ratios of excited‐state absorption cross sections relative to that of the ground‐state in the visible spectral region; this results in a remarkable degree of reverse saturable absorption from 1 in CH2Cl2 solution illuminated by ns laser pulses at 532 nm. The two‐photon absorption cross sections in the near‐IR region for 1 are among the largest values reported for platinum complexes. Therefore, 1 is an excellent, broadband, nonlinear absorbing material that exhibits strong reverse saturable absorption in the visible spectral region and large two‐photon‐assisted excited‐state absorption in the near‐IR region.  相似文献

The electronic excited states populated upon absorption of UV photons by DNA are extensively studied in relation to the UV‐induced damage to the genetic code. Here, we report a new unexpected relaxation pathway in adenine–thymine double‐stranded structures (AT)n. Fluorescence measurements on (AT)n hairpins (six and ten base pairs) and duplexes (20 and 2000 base pairs) reveal the existence of an emission band peaking at approximately 320 nm and decaying on the nanosecond time scale. Time‐dependent (TD)‐DFT calculations, performed for two base pairs and exploring various relaxation pathways, allow the assignment of this emission band to excited states resulting from mixing between Frenkel excitons and adenine‐to‐thymine charge‐transfer states. Emission from such high‐energy long‐lived mixed (HELM) states is in agreement with their fluorescence anisotropy (0.03), which is lower than that expected for π–π* states (≥0.1). An increase in the size of the system quenches π–π* fluorescence while enhancing HELM fluorescence. The latter process varies linearly with the hypochromism of the absorption spectra, both depending on the coupling between π–π* and charge‐transfer states. Subsequently, we identify the common features between the HELM states of (AT)n structures with those reported previously for alternating (GC)n: high emission energy, low fluorescence anisotropy, nanosecond lifetimes, and sensitivity to conformational disorder. These features are also detected for calf thymus DNA in which HELM states could evolve toward reactive π–π* states, giving rise to delayed fluorescence.  相似文献

We prepared enantiomers of chiral PtII complexes, Pt(pppb)Cl and Pt(pppb)CN (pppbH=1‐pyridyl‐3‐(4,5‐pinenopyridyl)benzene), and measured their CPL (circularly polarized luminescence) spectra for excimer and trimer emission. The contribution of the pinene moiety to CPL was considerably low for the π–π* emission of the monomer but large for MMLCT (metal‐metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer) of the excimer and trimer which had a helical structure induced in a face‐to‐face stacking fashion. The trimer CPL for (+)‐Pt(pppb)Cl was larger in intensity than that of excimer CPL; on the other hand, that for (+)‐Pt(pppb)CN was opposite in sign compared with that of excimer CPL. We conclude that differences in the excited‐state structure of the aggregate between Pt(pppb)Cl and Pt(pppb)CN account for the variation in the CPL spectra. By the aid of TD‐DFT calculations it was predicted that the dihedral angle θ(Cl‐Pt‐Pt‐Cl) was 50–60° or 110–140° for Pt(pppb)Cl aggregates and 160° for Pt(pppb)CN aggregates.  相似文献

A series of luminescent cyclometalated platinum(Ⅱ)complexes,(C^N^N)Pt(C≡CR)[HC^N^N=4-(4-tolyl)-6-phenyl-2,2’-bipyridine;R=4-chlorophenyl(1),phenyl(2) and 4-tolyl(3)],were synthesized, and their spectroscopic properties have been examined. These complexes are brightly emissive both in fluid solution and in the solid state, attributed to triplet metal-to-ligand charge transfer(^3MLCT)state.The excited state energy can be tuned by ancillary acetylide ligands. The emission lifetimes in dichloromethand solution at room temperature were up to 1.64 μs and the emission quantum yields were in the range of 0.03-0.15.  相似文献

A “frozen” electron donor–acceptor array that bears porphyrin and fullerene units covalently linked through the ortho position of a phenyl ring and the nitrogen of a pyrrolidine ring, respectively, is reported. Electrochemical and photophysical features suggest that the chosen linkage supports both through‐space and through‐bond interactions. In particular, it has been found that the porphyrin singlet excited state decays within a few picoseconds by means of a photoinduced electron transfer to give the rapid formation of a long‐lived charge‐separated state. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show HOMO and LUMO to be localized on the electron‐donating porphyrin and the electron‐accepting fullerene moiety, respectively, at this level of theory. More specifically, semiempirical molecular orbital (MO) configuration interaction (CI) and unrestricted natural orbital (UNO)‐CI methods shed light on the nature of the charge‐transfer states and emphasize the importance of the close proximity of donor and acceptor for effective electron transfer.  相似文献

A new class of ruthenium(II) polypyridine complexes with a series of D–π–A–π–D type (D=donor, A=acceptor) ligands was synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of the complexes were also investigated. The newly synthesized ruthenium(II) polypyridine complexes were found to exhibit two intense absorption bands at both high‐energy (λ=333–369 nm) and low‐energy (λ=520–535 nm) regions. They are assigned as intraligand (IL) π→π* transitions of the bipyridine (bpy) and π‐conjugated bpy ligands, and IL charge‐transfer (CT) transitions from the donor to the acceptor moiety with mixing of dπ(RuII)→π*(bpy) and dπ(RuII)→π*(L) MLCT characters, respectively. In addition, all complexes were demonstrated to exhibit intense red emissions at approximately λ=727–744 nm in degassed dichloromethane at 298 K or in n‐butyronitrile glass at 77 K. Nanosecond transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy has also been carried out, establishing the presence of the charge‐separated state. In order to understand the electrochemical properties of the complexes, cyclic voltammetry has also been performed. Two quasi‐reversible oxidation couples and three quasi‐reversible reduction couples were observed. One of the ruthenium(II) complexes has been utilized in the fabrication of memory devices, in which an ON/OFF current ratio of over 104 was obtained.  相似文献

A series of luminescent bis‐cyclometalated gold(III) complexes containing bridging alkynyl ligands of different natures has been synthesised and characterised. The photophysical properties of the complexes have been investigated through electronic absorption spectroscopy and emission studies. The vibronic emission bands are found to originate from the triplet intraligand (IL) π–π* excited states of the bis‐cyclometalating ligands with some mixing of 3IL π–π* character of the alkynyl ligands. The electrochemical study of a nonsymmetric dinuclear complex shows two successive reduction processes originating from the reductions of the two different cyclometalating ligands. The complexes are found to undergo supramolecular self‐assembly processes driven by π–π stacking and hydrophobic/hydrophilic interactions to give honeycomb nanostructures, as revealed from the SEM images. Solvent‐dependent morphological transformations have also been observed, which have been studied by SEM and 1H NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

The mono- (1) and dinuclear (2) ruthenium(II) bis(2,2'-bipyridine) complexes of 2,5-di(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine (2,5-dpp), for which the UV/Vis absorption and emission as well as electrochemical properties have been described earlier, are reinvestigated here by resonance, surface enhanced and transient resonance Raman spectroscopy together with selective deuteration to determine the location of the lowest lying excited metal to ligand charge transfer ((3)MLCT) states. The ground state absorption spectrum of both the mono- and dinuclear complexes are characterised by resonance Raman spectroscopy. The effect of deuteration on emission lifetimes together with the absence of characteristic bipy anion radical modes in the transient Raman spectra for both the mono- and dinuclear complexes bridged by the 2,5-dpp ligand confirms that the excited state is 2,5-dpp based; however DFT calculations and the effect of deuteration on emission lifetimes indicate that the bipy based MLCT states contribute to excited state deactivation. Resonance Raman and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopic (SERS) data for 1 and 2 are compared with that of the heterobimetallic complexes [Ru(bipy)(2)(2,5-dpp)PdCl(2)](2+)3 and [Ru(bipy)(2)(2,5-dpp)PtCl(2)](2+)4. The SERS data for 1 indicates that a heterobimetallic Ru-Au complex forms in situ upon addition of 1 to a gold colloid.  相似文献

The photochemical cis/trans isomerization of urocanic acid (UCA, (E)‐3‐(1′H‐imidazol‐4′‐yl)propenoic acid) was investigated using complete active space SCF (CASSCF) ab initio calculations. The singlet ground state and the triplet and the singlet manifolds of the lowest‐lying π→π* (HOMO→LUMO) excitation of the neutral and the anionic UCA were calculated using the 6‐31G* and the 6‐31+G* basis sets, respectively. The torsional barrier of the double bond of the propenoic acid moiety in UCA is observed to be considerably lower in the T1 and S1 excited states of the neutral UCA and in the T1 but not in the S1 excited state of the anionic UCA, as compared to the S0 state of the respective protonation form. The cis‐isomer of both the neutral and the anionic UCA is lower in energy than the trans‐isomer in the S0, T1, and S1 states. This energy difference is larger in the excited states than in the ground state, probably due to strengthening of the intramolecular hydrogen bond of cis‐UCA as the molecule is excited. The results of the calculations, interpreted in terms of the idea that UCA is deprotonated upon electronic excitation, led to construction of a new model for the photoisomerization mechanisms of UCA. According to this model, the trans‐to‐cis isomerization proceeds via both the triplet and the singlet manifolds in the deprotonated form of UCA. This isomerization may occur in the S0 state of the neutral UCA as well. The cis‐to‐trans isomerization is suggested to proceed only in the S0 state of the neutral UCA. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ab initio calculations have been performed on [FeII(bpy)3]2+ (bpy=bipyridine) to establish the variation of the energy of the electronic states relevant to light‐induced excited‐state spin trapping as a function of the Fe? ligand distance. Light‐induced spin crossover takes place after excitation into the singlet metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (MLCT) band. We found that the corresponding electronic states have their energy minimum in the same region as the low‐spin (LS) state and that the energy dependence of the triplet MLCT states are nearly identical to the 1MLCT states. The high‐spin (HS) state is found to cross the MLCT band near the equilibrium geometry of the MLCT states. These findings give additional support to the hypothesis of a fast singlet–triplet interconversion in the MLCT manifold, followed by a 3MLCT–HS (5T2) conversion accompanied by an elongation of the Fe? N distance.  相似文献

A series of zinc porphyrins substituted at adjacent β‐positions with a CN group and para‐substituted ethenyl/ethynyl‐phenyl group have been studied using electronic absorption spectroscopy, resonance Raman spectroscopy and DFT calculations. The oxidative nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen was utilized for the introduction of a cyano substituent on the porphyrin ring. This modification has a remarkable electronic effect on the ring. The resulting porphyrin cyanoaldehyde was further modified in Wittig condensations to give series of arylalkene‐ and arylalkyne‐substituted derivatives. This substitution pattern caused significant redshifting and broadening of the B band, tuning from 433–446 nm. Additionally the Q/B band intensity ratios show much higher values than observed for the parent porphyrin ZnTPP (0.20 vs. 0.03). Careful analysis of the electronic transitions using DFT and resonance Raman spectroscopy reveal that the substituent does not significantly perturb the electronic structure of the porphyrin core, which is still well described by Gouterman’s four‐orbital model. However, the substituents do play a role in elongating the conjugation length and this results in the observed spectral changes.  相似文献

The acid dissociation constant, pKa, for the ground and excited states of ruthenium tris(4′-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine-4-carboxylic acid) complex have been measured. The ground state pKa obtained from the pH titration curve of the complex absorption at 454 nm was 2.5. The lifetimes of the excited-state for deprotonated and protonated ruthenium complexes are 595 and 150 ns, respectively. The excited-state pKa* is obtained from the emission titration curve at 630 nm and corrected for the excited-state lifetime to be 4.2. The increase of 1.7 pH units in the acid dissociation constant in the excited-state indicates that the ligand is much more basic in the excited-state. This result confirms the MLCT assignment for the lowest electronic transition of [Ru(mbpyCOOH)3]2+.  相似文献

Electronic structures and spectroscopic properties of a series of platinum(II) complexes based on the 2‐pyridylpyrazolate ligand with modified pyrazolate fragment have been studied by the time‐dependent density functional theory (TD‐DFT) calculations. The ground‐ and excited‐state structures were optimized by the DFT and single‐excitation configuration interaction (CIS) methods, respectively. The calculated structures and spectroscopic properties are in agreement with the corresponding experimental results. The results of the spectroscopic investigations revealed that the lowest‐energy absorptions have 1,3MLCT/1,3ILCT mixing characters. When the electron‐withdrawing groups (? CF3, ? C3F7) are introduced into the pyrazolate fragment, the lowest‐energy absorptions are blue‐shifted compared with that without substituents on the pyrazolate fragment, while the opposite case is observed for the electron‐donating groups (? Me, ? tBu, etc.). Otherwise, the phosphorescent emissions of these complexes have the 3MLCT/3ILCT character and should be originated from the lowest‐energy absorptions. When the pyrazolate fragment is replaced by the indazole group, the HOMO and LUMO orbitals of the pyridyl‐indazolate ligand platinum(II) complexes have obvious π and π* orbital characters. Therefore, there is no evident MLCT character in the lowest energy absorption and emission. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2009  相似文献

Localized orbitals have recently been employed in large ab initio calculations, but their use has generally been restricted to ground‐state problems. In this work, we analyze the molecular orbitals of the excited states, optimized with a recently proposed local procedure. This method produces local orbitals of the CAS–SCF type, which permits its application to the study of excited states. In particular, we focus on the π→π* triplet excited state in polyenes, calculated using a 2/2 CAS space which includes two electrons in one π and one π* orbitals. In small polyenes, these two singly occupied active orbitals are delocalized all along the molecule. The extent of the delocalization is analyzed by studying polyenes of increasing size. Different polyenes have been studied, going from C14H16 to the C70H72 polyene. The relation of the π→π* excitation with the cation and anion systems is also discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
