Nanosecond laser flash photolysis employing transient detection of emission and absorption in combination with pulse radiolysis and quantum theory has been employed to shed light into the kinetics, quantum yields, and mechanisms of the deactivation of the first excited singlet state of 1- and 2-thionaphthols (NpSH(S(1))). In contrast to thiophenols (ArSH(S(1))), the results revealed that the decay of the first excited singlet state of 1- and 2-thionaphthols (NpSH(S(1))) is governed by radiationless internal conversion (Φ(IC) = 0.29-0.46; 0.016-0.190) and intersystem crossing (Φ(ISC) = 0.14-0.15; 0.4-0.6), respectively, with pronounced S-H photodissociation (Φ(D) = 0.40-0.55; 0.35-0.40). Fluorescence as a deactivation channel plays a minor role (Φ(F) = 0.001-0.010; 0.010-0.034). Quantum chemical calculations helped in understanding the formation of naphthylthiyl radicals and rationalizing the differences in the efficiency of intersystem crossing of the 1- and 2-thionaphthol systems.  相似文献

The S2 potential energy surface for Cl2CS dissociation has been characterized with a combined complete active space self-consistent field and multireference configuration interaction method. The S3/S2 minimum-energy intersection has been determined with the state-averaged complete active space self-consistent field method. The S2 direct dissociation was found to have a barrier of 6.0 kcal/mol, leading to formation of Cl(X2P)+ClCS(A2A") in the excited electronic state. Dynamics of the S2 state of Cl2CS can be summarized as follows: (1) The S2-S0 fluorescence occurs with high quantum yield at low excess energies; (2) Both the S(2) dissociation and the S2-->S3 internal conversion cause the loss of the S2-S0 fluorescence upon photoexcitation at 235-253 nm; (3) The S2-->S3 internal conversion (IC) followed by the direct IC to the ground electronic state results in the fragments produced in the ground state, while the S2 dissociation leads to formation of the fragments in excited electronic states.  相似文献

The solvent polarity dependence of the fluorescence quantum yield and lifetime of 1-dimethylaminonaphthalene (DMAN) was fund different from that of normal case in that the two parameters increase with increasing solvent polarity, in spite of the fact that the emissive state of DMAN was also of ICT character. Steady state and time-resolved fluorescence studies have currently indicated that a thermally activated internal conversion (IC) occurred with DMAN[1,2]. The IC was assumed to be the consequence, of the vibronic coupling of the emissive S1 state and S2 state with the activation energy of the IC process depending on the energy gap between S1 and S2 states. It was hence put, forward that with increasing solvent, polarity the energy of the S1 state would be lowered more than that of the S2 state, leading to higher energy gap between the S1 and S2 states and therefore suppressed IC. As a consequence, increased fluorescence quantum yield and lengthened lifetime were observed.  相似文献

The photoprocesses of berberine, palmatine, coralyne, sanguinarine, flavopereirine and ellipticine were studied in several solvents. The quantum yields Φ(Δ) of singlet molecular oxygen formation of berberine, palmatine and sanguinarine are moderate in dichloromethane (0.2-0.6) and much smaller in acetonitrile or trifluoroethanol. For the other alkaloids examined, Φ(Δ) is rather independent of solvent polarity. The direct and ketone-sensitized photolysis, using steady-state irradiation at 313 nm or 248/308 nm laser pulses, was studied by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. Thereby, radicals were observed yielding eventually dihydro derivatives as major products, which are thermally back-converted on admission of oxygen. The quantum yield of conversion of alkaloids to dihydroalkaloids is enhanced in the presence of triethylamine. The reaction in the presence of ketones and electron or H-atom donors has a quantum yield of close to unity.  相似文献

The excited state deactivation pathways of push-pull distyryl furan and benzofuran derivatives in several organic solvents were investigated in detail by using time-resolved transient absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies, with nano- and femto-second time resolution. Solvent polarity was found to play a key role in determining the efficiencies of fluorescence, intersystem crossing and internal conversion. The triplet yield gradually decreased, while the internal conversion increased upon increasing the solvent dielectric constant. However the fluorescence showed a different solvent polarity effect in the low and high solvent polarity region, with a reversal of the trend of fluorescence properties (quantum yield and lifetime). This fact points to an emitting state of a different nature (smaller and larger dipole moments) in the two cases, as also suggested by the huge fluorosolvatochromism. In fact the ultrafast spectroscopic investigation evidenced the presence of two transients characterized by peculiar spectral shapes assigned to a locally excited (LE) and a charge transfer (CT) state. In the more polar solvents the CT state was the longer lived, fluorescent one and an intramolecular charge transfer process was found to be operative and to become faster (up to ~200-250 fs) in the higher polarity media. On the contrary, distyrylfuran, which exhibits the same molecular skeleton without the push-pull character showed a similar excited state dynamics in solvents of different polarities.  相似文献

This paper describes the results of a study of the photophysical properties of various methyl-angelicins (MA) in solvents of different polarity and proticity. The behavior of their excited singlet and triplet states was investigated by fluorometry and nanosecond laser flash photolysis. On the basis of semiempirical (ZINDO/S-CI) calculations and the solvent effect on the absorption and fluorescence properties, the lowest excited singlet state (S1) is assigned to a partially allowed π, π* state. The close lying S2 state is n,π* in nature. The efficiency of the decay pathways of S1 (fluorescence, intersystem crossing and internal conversion) strongly depends on the energy gap between the S1 and S2 states consistent with the manifestation of “proximity effect.” Thus, MA in cyclohexane decay only through S1→ S0 internal conversion, while in acetonitrile and ethanol, where the n, π* state is located at higher energy, their fluorescence and intersystem crossing increase significantly. The lowest excited triplet states (T1) were characterized in terms of their absorption spectra, decay kinetics, molar absorption coefficients and formation quantum yields. The interaction of T1 MA with molecular oxygen leads to an efficient formation of singlet oxygen, as evidenced by the appearance of characteristic IR phosphorescence centered at 1269 nm.  相似文献

The intramolecular radiative and nonradiative relaxation processes of three thiophene-S,S-dioxide derivatives with different molecular rigidity are investigated in different solutions and in inert matrix. We show that the fluorescence quantum efficiency and the relaxation dynamics are strongly dependent on the environment viscosity, whereas they are almost independent of the environment polarity. We demonstrate that this strong dependence is due to an environment dependent nonradiative decay rate, whereas no relevant variations of the radiative decay rate are observed. We demonstrate that the dipole coupling with the solvent does not provide an efficient nonradiative decay channel and that the S(n) - S(1) vibrational relaxation is very efficient in all of the molecules and for all of the investigated environments. Moreover first-principles time-dependent density-functional theory calculations in the correct, i.e., excited-state, molecular conformation, suggest that significant contributions of intersystem crossing to the triplet manifold can be excluded. We then conclude that the main nonradiative process determining the fluorescence quantum efficiency of this class of molecules is S(1) - S(0) internal conversion (IC). An explanation for the IC rate dependence in terms of the environment viscosity, molecular rigidity, S(1) - S(0) energy-gap, and molecular volume is presented.  相似文献

The quantum yields of the formation of triplet states from the exciplexes of 9-cyanophenanthrene with 1,2,3- and 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzenes in solvents of different polarity and the rate constants of intersystem crossing in these exciplexes were measured. In the solvents of weak and intermediate polarity, the exciplexes decay predominantly via internal conversion and intersystem crossing, whereas the decay in polar solvents occurs additionally via dissociation into radical ions.  相似文献

The E ⇄ Z photoisomerization of 4'-methoxycinnamates, used as sunscreens in cosmetics, has been studied by steady state and laser flash photolysis, in aqueous and organic solutions. Photoisomerization quantum yields are found to be fairly high (˜0.5-1), although no intermediate is detected upon laser flash photolysis. Cinnamates are not photodynamic sensitizers but are able to quench the 8-methoxy-psoralen and 5-methoxypsoralen triplets which produces E → Z isomerization.  相似文献

Excited-state dynamics of 4-thiothymidine (S4-TdR) and its photosensitization to molecular oxygen in solution with UVA irradiation were investigated. Absorption and emission spectra measurements revealed that UVA photolysis of S4-TdR gives rise to a population of T1(pipi*), following S2(pipi*) --> S1(npi*) internal conversion. In transient absorption measurement, the 355 nm laser photolysis gave broad absorption (380-600 nm) bands of triplet S4-TdR. The time-resolved thermal lensing (TRTL) signal of S4-TdR containing the thermal component due to decay of triplet S4-TdR was clearly observed by the 355 nm laser excitation. The quantum yield for S1 --> T1 intersystem crossing was estimated to be unity by a triplet quenching experiment with potassium iodide. In the presence of molecular oxygen, the photosensitization from triplet S4-TdR gave rise to singlet oxygen O2 (1Deltag) with a quantum yield of 0.50. Therapeutic implications of such singlet oxygen formation are discussed.  相似文献

The triplet-triplet absorption spectra of p-N, N-dimethylnitroaniline, 4-nitro-p-terphenyl, 1-amino-4-nitrofluorene, 5-nitroacenaphthene, trans-1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-2-nitroethylene (MeONS), and trans-1-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-2-nitroethylene (DANS) in EPA glass at 77 K are reported, together with molar extinction coefficients and PPP-SCF-MO-CI calculations. The two nitrostyrenes, MeONS and DANS, have been examined in fluid media at room temperature using nanosecond laser photolysis, and their triplet lifetimes found to increase substantially with increase in solvent polarity and charge-transfer character of the compound. This is interpreted in terms of the diradical/zwitterionic nature of the triplet state affecting the T1–S0 energy gap at the 90° twisted configuration of the olefinic linkage. The decrease in both the triplet yield and the fluorescence yield of DANS with increase in solvent polarity is explained by the intervention of an internal conversion process involving a rotation of the dimethylamino group in the lowest singlet excited state.  相似文献

Pulsed laser photolysis combined with transient absorption spectroscopy and resonance fluorescence was used to examine the photolysis of OIO at a number of wavelengths corresponding to absorption bands in its visible spectrum between approximately 530 and 570 nm. Photolysis at 532 nm was found to result in substantial depopulation of the absorbing ground state, enabling an estimate for the absorption cross section of OIO at 610.2 nm of (6 +/- 2) x 10(-18) cm2 molecule(-1) to be obtained. No evidence was found for I atom formation following photolysis of OIO at 532, 562.3, 567.9 and 573.8 nm, enabling an upper limit to the I atom quantum yield of < 0.05 (560-580 nm) and < 0.24 (532 nm) to be established.  相似文献

The dynamics of formation of oxygen atoms after UV photoexcitation of SO2 in the gas-phase was studied by pulsed laser photolysis-laser-inducedfluorescence ‘pump-and-probe’ technique in a flow reactor. SO2 at room-temperature was excited at the KrCl excimer laser wavelength (222.4 nm) and O(3Pj) photofragments were detected under collision-free conditions by vacuum ultraviolet laser-induced fluorescence. The use of narrow-band probe laser radiation, generated viaresonant third-order sum-difference frequency conversion of dye laser radiation in Krypton, allowed the measurement of the nascent O(3Pj=2,1,0) fine-structure state distribution:n j=2/nj=1/nj=0 = (0.88 ± 0.02)/(0.10 ± 0.01)/(0.02 ± 0.01). Employing NO2photolysis as a reference, a value of Φ0(3P) = 0.13 ± 0.05 for the absolute O(3P) atom quantum yield was determined. The measured O(3P) quantum yield is compared with the results of earlier fluorescence quantum yield measurements. A suitable mechanism is suggested in which the dissociation proceeds via internal conversion from high rotational states of the initially excited SO2(~C1B2 (1, 2, 2) vibronic level to nearby continuum states of the electronic ground state.  相似文献

N-Methyl-N-methoxycarbonylmethyl-1-aminonaphthalene (MMAN) and N,N-dimethoxycarbonylmethyl-1-aminonaphthalene (DCAN) were synthesized and their fluorescence and absorption spectra in solvents of varied polarity were investigated and compared to those of 1-dimethylaminonaphthylene (DMAN). The data were discussed in terms of the N-substitution effects on the internal conversion (IC). Results showed that the IC was enhanced when the N-methyl group in DMAN was replaced by N-CH2CO2CH3.  相似文献

The photostability and photophysical parameters of an aqueous solution of the mycosporine-like amino acid (MAA) porphyra-334 have been determined. The excited-singlet state lifetime, measured by time-correlated single photon counting, was 0.4 ns. Laser flash photolysis experiments at 355 nm did not show any transient species. The triplet state of porphyra-334 was sensitized by triplet-triplet energy transfer. The T-T absorption spectrum was determined and the maximal absorption coefficient at 440 nm was estimated to be 1 x 10(4) M(-1) cm(-1). In this way an upper limit for the intersystem crossing quantum yield was determined. The very low quantum yield of fluorescence (phiF = 0.0016) and triplet formation (phiT < 0.05) together with a photodecomposition quantum yield of 2-4 x 10(-4), in the absence and the presence of oxygen respectively, can be explained by a very fast internal conversion process. These results support the photoprotective role assigned to this MAA in living systems.  相似文献

Photochemical properties of photoinduced omega-bond dissociation in p-benzoylbenzyl phenyl sulfide (BBPS) in solution were investigated by time-resolved EPR and laser flash photolysis techniques. BBPS was shown to undergo photoinduced omega-bond cleavage to yield the p-benzoylbenzyl radical (BBR) and phenyl thiyl radical (PTR) at room temperature. The quantum yield (phi(rad)) for the radical formation was found to depend on the excitation wavelength, i.e., on the excitation to the excited singlet states, S2 and S1 of BBPS; phi(rad)(S2) = 0.65 and phi(rad)(S1) = 1.0. Based on the CIDEP data, these radicals were found to be produced via the triplet state independent of excitation wavelength. By using triplet sensitization of xanthone, the efficiency (alpha(rad)) of the C-S bond fission in the lowest triplet state (T1) of BBPS was determined to be unity. The agreement between phi(rad)(S1) and alpha(rad) values indicates that the C-S bond dissociation occurs in the T1 state via the S1 state due to a fast intersystem crossing from the S1 to the T1 state. In contrast, the wavelength dependence of the radical yields was interpreted in terms of the C-S bond cleavage in the S2 state competing with internal conversion from the S2 to the S1 state. The smaller value of phi(rad)(S2) than that of phi(rad)(S1) was proposed to originate from the geminate recombination of singlet radical pairs produced by the bond dissociation via the S2 state. Considering the electronic character of the excited and dissociative states in BBPS showed a schematic energy diagram for the omega-bond dissociation of BBPS.  相似文献

Effect of solvent on the excited-state photophysical properties of curcumin   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Photophysical properties of curcumin, 1,7-bis-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxy phenyl)-1,6-heptadiene-2,5-dione, a pigment found in the rhizomes of Curcuma longa (turmeric) have been studied in different kinds of organic solvent and also in Triton X-100 aqueous micellar media using time-resolved fluorescence and transient absorption techniques having pico and nanosecond time resolution, in addition to steady-state absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. Steady-state absorption and fluorescence characteristics of curcumin have been found to be sensitive to the solvent characteristics. Large change (delta mu = 6.1 Debye) in dipole moments due to photoexcitation to the excited singlet state (S1) indicates strong intramolecular charge transfer character of the latter. Curcumin is a weakly fluorescent molecule and the fluorescence decay properties in most of the solvents could be fitted well to a double-exponential decay function. The shorter component having lifetime in the range 50-350 ps and percent contribution of amplitude more than 90% in different solvents may be assigned to the enol form, whereas the longer component, having lifetime in the range 500-1180 ps with less than 10% contribution may be assigned to the di-keto form of curcumin. Our nuclear magnetic resonance study in CDCl3 and dimethyl sulfoxide-D6 also supports the fact that the enol form is present in the solution by more than about 95% in these solvents. Excited singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) absorption spectrum and decay kinetics have been characterized by pico and nanosecond laser flash photolysis. Quantum yield of the triplet is low (phi T < or = 0.12). Both the fluorescence and triplet quantum yields being low (phi f + phi T < 0.18), the photophysics of curcumin is dominated by the energy relaxation mechanism via the internal conversion process.  相似文献

The photodissociation of pyruvic acid at 193 nm has been studied and one of the photoproducts, methane, was detected using an infrared diode laser absorption probe technique. Using second-derivative absorption spectroscopy at 1346.326 cm-1[R (-)(7) transition in v4 band], the progress of the reaction was monitored. The quantum yield of formation of methane = 0.09 ± 0.01 and was further corroborated by a simple measurement of pressure changes following the photolysis. The secondary photolysis of the photoproduct acetaldehyde via the established route was found to be negligible. This result may help to account for the energetics of the photodissociation process by a 6.4 eV excimer laser photon. The possibility of using this technique to examine the nascent methane molecule in real-time domain to gain better insight of the dissociation dynamics is also indicated.  相似文献

The dynamics of the 193 nm photodissociation of the CFCl and CFBr molecules have been investigated in a molecular beam experiment. The CFCl and CFBr parent molecules were generated by pyrolysis of CHFCl2 and CFBr3, respectively, and the CFCl and the CF photofragment were detected by laser fluorescence excitation. The 193 nm attenuation cross section of CFCl was determined from the reduction of the CF photofragment signal as a function of the photolysis laser fluence. The internal state distribution was derived from the analysis of laser fluorescence excitation spectra in the A 2Sigma+-X 2Pi band system. A very low degree of rotational excitation, with essentially equal A' and A" Lambda-doublet populations, and no vibrational excitation were found in the CF photofragment. The energy available to the photofragments is hence predominantly released as translational energy. The CF internal state distribution is consistent with the dissociation of a linear intermediate state. Considerations of CFCl electronic states suggest that a bent Rydberg state is initially excited.  相似文献
