Let X be a compact abelian group. A subgroup H of X   is called characterized if there exists a sequence u=(un)u=(un) of characters of X   such that H=su(X)H=su(X), where su(X):={x∈X:(un,x)→0 in T}su(X):={xX:(un,x)0 in T}. Every characterized subgroup is an FσδFσδ-subgroup of X  . We show that every GδGδ-subgroup of X is characterized. On the other hand, X   has non-characterized FσFσ-subgroups.  相似文献

The uncertainty principle: A mathematical survey   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We survey various mathematical aspects of the uncertainty principle, including Heisenberg’s inequality and its variants, local uncertainty inequalities, logarithmic uncertainty inequalities, results relating to Wigner distributions, qualitative uncertainty principles, theorems on approximate concentration, and decompositions of phase space.  相似文献

We produce a class of countably infinite quasi-convex sets (sequences converging to zero) in the circle group T and in the group J2 of 2-adic integers determined by sequences of integers satisfying a mild lacunarity condition. We also extend our results to the group R of real numbers. All these quasi-convex sets have a stronger property: Every infinite (necessarily) symmetric subset containing 0 is still quasi-convex.  相似文献

In a series of papers, we have shown that from the representation theory of a compact groupoid one can reconstruct the groupoid using the procedure similar to the Tannaka-Krein duality for compact groups. In this part we study continuous representations of compact groupoids. We show that irreducible representations have finite dimensional fibres. We prove Schur's lemma and Peter-Weyl theorem for compact groupoids.  相似文献

In the paper Wiener-Hopf operators on a semigroup of nonnegative elements of a linearly quasi-ordered torsion free Abelian group are considered. Wiener-Hopf factorization of an invertible element of the group algebra is constructed, notions of a topological index and a factor index are introduced. It turns out that the set of factor indices for invertible elements of the group algebra is a linearly ordered group. It is shown that Wiener-Hopf operator with an invertible symbol is an one-side invertible operator and its invertibility properties are defined by the sign of the factor index of its symbol. Groups on which there exist nontrivial Fredholm Wiener-Hopf operators are described. As an example, all linear quasi-orders on the group n are found and corresponding Wiener-Hopf operators are considered.  相似文献

We extend the results by Froelich and Spronk and Turowska on the connection between operator synthesis and spectral synthesis for A(G) to second countable locally compact groups G. This gives us another proof that one-point subset of G is a set of spectral synthesis and that any closed subgroup is a set of local spectral synthesis. Furthermore, we show that “non-triangular” sets are strong operator Ditkin sets and we establish a connection between operator Ditkin sets and Ditkin sets. These results are applied to prove that any closed subgroup of G is a local Ditkin set.  相似文献

A necessary and sufficient condition is presented for a set to be a Pompeiu subset of any compact homogeneous space with a finite invariant measure. The condition, which is expressed in terms of the intertwining operators of each primary summand of the quasi-regular representation, is then interpreted in the case of the compact Heisenberg manifolds. Examples are presented demonstrating that the condition to be Pompeiu in these manifolds is quite different from the corresponding condition for a torus of the same dimension. This provides a contrast with the existing comparison between the Heisenberg group itself and Euclidean space in terms of Pompeiu sets. In addition, the closed linear span of all translates of any square integrable function on any compact homogeneous space is determined.  相似文献

For a topological group G, we denote by G a the arc component of the neutral element and by the character group of G, i.e. the group of all continuous homomorphisms from G into T. We prove the following theorem: Let G be a connected locally compact abelian group and let be the embedding. Then is a topological isomorphism. In particular, the character group of the arc component of a compact abelian group is discrete. Some conclusions will be drawn.  相似文献

Rosenthal's theorem describing those Banach spaces containing no copy of ?1 is extended to topological groups replacing ?1-basis by interpolation sets in the sense of Hartman and Ryll-Nardzewsky (Colloq. Math. 12 (1964) 23-39). This extension provides a characterization of those locally compact groups containing no interpolation sets and of those locally compact groups which respect compactness, i.e, such that every Bohr compact subset is compact. The approach followed in this paper sheds some light on other questions related to the duality theory of non-Abelian locally compact groups.  相似文献

In this article we extend to the setting of band-limited functions on compact groups previous results bounding from below the percentage of energy, contained in the low frequency portion of the spectrum of a positive function defined on a cyclic group. Connections to signal recovery for positive functions, as well as partial spectral analysis, are also discussed.  相似文献

Let G be a connected simply connected nilpotent Lie group. In [A. Baklouti, N. Ben Salah, The LpLq version of Hardy's Theorem on nilpotent Lie groups, Forum Math. 18 (2006) 245-262], we proved for 2?p,q?+∞ the LpLq version of Hardy's Theorem known as the Cowling-Price Theorem. In the setup where 1?p,q?+∞, the problem is still unsolved and the upshot is known only for few cases. We prove in this paper such a result in the context of 2-NPC nilpotent Lie groups. A proof of the analogue of Beurling's Theorem is also provided in the same context.  相似文献

It is shown how the basic constructs of harmonic analysis, such as convolution, algebras of measures and functions (including Fourier-Stieltjes algebras) can be developed for compact Hausdorff right topological groups. In particular, the properties and structure of these new objects are compared with their classical analogues in the topological group case.  相似文献

Let G   denote a locally compact Hausdorff group and M(G)M(G) be the space of all bounded complex-valued regular Borel measures on G  . In this paper, we define two strict topologies on M(G)M(G) and study various properties of these topologies such as metrizability, barrelledness and completeness. We also determine the dual space of M(G)M(G) and consider various continuity properties for the convolution product on M(G)M(G) under these topologies.  相似文献

Malliavin's celebrated theorem on the failure of spectral synthesis for the Fourier algebra A(G) on nondiscrete abelian groups was strengthened to give failure of weak synthesis by Parthasarathy and Varma. We extend this to nonabelian groups by proving that weak synthesis holds for A(G) if and only if G is discrete. We give the injection theorem and the inverse projection theorem for weak X-spectral synthesis, as well as a condition for the union of two weak X-spectral sets to be weak X-spectral for an A(G)-submodule X of VN(G). Relations between weak X-synthesis in A(G) and A(G×G) and the Varopoulos algebra V(G) are explored. The concept of operator synthesis was introduced by Arveson. We extend several recent investigations on operator synthesis by defining and studying, for a V(G)-submodule M of B(L2(G)), sets of weak M-operator synthesis. Relations between X-Ditkin sets and M-operator Ditkin sets and between weak X-spectral synthesis and weak M-operator synthesis are explored.  相似文献

We study left multipliers on the second dual spaces L1(G)″ and M(G)″. We answer a question of Ghahramani and Lau, showing that for non-compact G a non-zero left multiplier on these spaces cannot be weakly compact.  相似文献
