Let X be a (real or complex) Banach space and 1<p,p′<∞ such that 1/p+1/p′=1. Then , the injective tensor product of Lp[0,1] and X, has the Radon-Nikodym property (resp. the analytic Radon-Nikodym property, the near Radon-Nikodym property, contains no copy of c0, is weakly sequentially complete) if and only if X has the same property and each continuous linear operator from Lp[0,1] to X is compact.  相似文献

We will introduce the countable separation property (CSP) of Banach spaces X, which is defined as follows: X has CSP if each family E of closed linear subspaces of X whose intersection is the zero space contains a countable subfamily E0 with the same intersection. All separable Banach spaces have CSP and plenty of examples of non-separable CSP spaces are provided. Connections of CSP with Marku?evi?-bases, Corson property and related geometric issues are discussed.  相似文献

In the present paper, we establish some identities or estimates for the operator norms and the Hausdorff measures of noncompactness of certain operators given by infinite matrices that map an arbitrary BK-space into the sequence spaces c0, c, ? and ?1, and into the matrix domains of triangles in these spaces. Furthermore, by using the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness, we apply our results to characterize some classes of compact operators on the BK-spaces.  相似文献

We study conditions on Banach spaces close to separability. We say that a topological space is pcc if every point-finite family of open subsets of the space is countable. For a Banach space E, we say that E is weakly pcc if E, equipped with the weak topology, is pcc, and we also consider a weaker property: we say that E is half-pcc if every point-finite family consisting of half-spaces of E is countable. We show that E is half-pcc if, and only if, every bounded linear map Ec0(ω1) has separable range. We exhibit a variety of mild conditions which imply separability of a half-pcc Banach space. For a Banach space C(K), we also consider the pcc-property of the topology of pointwise convergence, and we note that the space Cp(K) may be pcc even when C(K) fails to be weakly pcc. We note that this does not happen when K is scattered, and we provide the following example:
-
There exists a non-metrizable scattered compact Hausdorff space K with C(K) weakly pcc.

We consider multiparameter singular integrals and pseudodifferential operators acting on mixed-norm Bochner spaces Lp1,…,pN(Rn1×?×RnN;X) where X is a UMD Banach space satisfying Pisier's property (α). These geometric conditions are shown to be necessary. We obtain a vector-valued version of a result by R. Fefferman and Stein, also providing a new, inductive proof of the original scalar-valued theorem. Then we extend a result of Bourgain on singular integrals in UMD spaces with an unconditional basis to a multiparameter situation. Finally we carry over a result of Yamazaki on pseudodifferential operators to the Bochner space setting, improving the known vector-valued results even in the one-parameter case.  相似文献

For any closed subset F   of [1,∞][1,] which is either finite or consists of the elements of an increasing sequence and its limit, a reflexive Banach space X with a 1-unconditional basis is constructed so that in each block subspace Y of X  , ?p?p is finitely block represented in Y   if and only if p∈FpF. In particular, this solves the question as to whether the stabilized Krivine set for a Banach space had to be connected. We also prove that for every infinite dimensional subspace Y of X there is a dense subset G of F such that the spreading models admitted by Y   are exactly the ?p?p for p∈GpG.  相似文献

We prove that if X and Y are compact Hausdorff spaces, then every fC(X × Y)+, i.e. f(x, y) ≥ 0 for all (x, y) ∈ X × Y, can be approximated uniformly from below and above by elements of the form , where fiC(X)+ and giC(Y)+ for i = 1, 2, …, n. The proof uses only elementary topology. We use this result, in conjuction with Kakutani's M-spaces representation theorem, to obtain an alternative proof for a known property of Fremlin's Riesz space tensor product of Archimedean Riesz spaces.  相似文献

Let X be a Banach space, let Y be its subspace, and let Г be an infinite set. We study the consequences of the assumption that an operator T embeds ?221E;(Г) into X isomorphically with T(c0(Г)) ⊂ Y. Under additional assumptions on T we prove the existence of isomorphic copies of c0ℵ0) in X/Y, and complemented copies ?(Г) in X/Y. In concrete cases we obtain a new information about the structure of X/Y. In particular, L∞[O,1]/C[O,1] contains a complemented copy of ?/c0, and some natural (lattice) quotients of real Orlicz and Marcinkiewicz spaces contain lattice-isometric and positively I-complemented copies of(real) ?/c0.  相似文献

Let 1 ≤ p < ∞. We show that , the Fremlin projective tensor product of p with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon–Nikodym property if and only if X has the Radon–Nikodym property; and that , the Wittstock injective tensor product of p with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon–Nikodym property if and only if X has the Radon–Nikodym property and each positive operator from p' to X is compact, where 1/p +1/p'= 1 and let p' = c0 if p = 1. Let φ be an Orlicz function that has a complementary function φ* and let φ be an Orlicz sequence space. We prove two results in this paper. Result 1: , the Fremlin projective tensor product of φ with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon-Nikodym property if and only if both φ and X have the Radon-Nikodym property. Result 2: , the Wittstock injective tensor product of φ with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon-Nikodym property if and only if both φ and X have the Radon-Nikodym property and each positive continuous linear operator from hφ* to X is compact. We dedicate this paper to the memory of H. H. We introduce and investigate the weak metric approximation property of Banach spaces which is strictly stronger than the approximation property and at least formally weaker than the metric approximation property. Among others, we show that if a Banach space has the approximation property and is 1-complemented in its bidual, then it has the weak metric approximation property. We also study the lifting of the weak metric approximation property from Banach spaces to their dual spaces. This enables us, in particular, to show that the subspace of c0, constructed by Johnson and Schechtman, does not have the weak metric approximation property. The research of the second-named author was partially supported by Estonian Science Foundation Grant 5704 and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.  相似文献

Let (X,τ) be a topological space and let ρ be a metric defined on X. We shall say that (X,τ) is fragmented by ρ if whenever ε>0 and A is a nonempty subset of X there is a τ-open set U such that UA≠∅ and ρ−diam(UA)<ε. In this paper we consider the notion of fragmentability, and its generalisation σ-fragmentability, in the setting of topological groups and metric-valued function spaces. We show that in the presence of Baireness fragmentability of a topological group is very close to metrizability of that group. We also show that for a compact Hausdorff space X, σ-fragmentability of (C(X),‖⋅) implies that the space Cp(X;M) of all continuous functions from X into a metric space M, endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence on X, is fragmented by a metric whose topology is at least as strong as the uniform topology on C(X;M). The primary tool used is that of topological games.  相似文献

We consider a generalization ?(X0,X1)p0,p1 of the method of means to arbitrary non-degenerate functional parameter. In this case non-trivial embedding ?(X0,X1)p0,p1ψ(X0,X1)q0,q1 take place. We find necessary and sufficient condition for such embedding if 1?q0?p0?∞ and 1?q1?p1?∞ or 1?p0?q0?∞ and 1?p1?q1?∞.  相似文献

We show that for each p∈(0,1]p(0,1] there exists a separable p  -Banach space GpGp of almost universal disposition, that is, having the following extension property: for each ε>0ε>0 and each isometric embedding g:X→Yg:XY, where Y is a finite-dimensional p-Banach space and X   is a subspace of GpGp, there is an ε  -isometry f:Y→Gpf:YGp such that x=f(g(x))x=f(g(x)) for all x∈XxX.  相似文献

We study when a Banach space with absolute norm may have polynomial numerical indices equal to one. In the real case, we show that a Banach space X with absolute norm, which has the Radon-Nikodým property or is Asplund, satisfies n(2)(X)<1 unless it is one-dimensional. In the complex case, we show that the only Banach spaces X with absolute norm and the Radon-Nikodým property which satisfy n(2)(X)=1 are the spaces . Also, the only Asplund complex space X with absolute norm which satisfies n(2)(X)=1 is c0(Λ).  相似文献
