Various existence, multiplicity, and nonexistence results for nontrivial solutions to a nonlinear discrete fourth-order Lidstone boundary value problem with dependence on two parameters are given, using a symmetric Green’s function approach. An existence result is also given for a related semipositone problem, thus relaxing the usual assumption of nonnegativity on the nonlinear term.  相似文献

This paper studies the existence of nontrivial solutions for a class of higher-order m-point singular boundary value problems based on the topological degree of a completely continuous field, the first eigenvalue and its corresponding eigenfunction of a special linear operator. In this paper we consider the discrete anisotropic boundary value problem using critical point theory. Firstly we apply the direct method of the calculus of variations and the mountain pass technique in order to reach the existence of at least one nontrivial solution. Secondly we derive some version of a discrete three critical point theorem which we apply in order to get the existence of at least two nontrivial solutions.  相似文献

We obtain an explicit solution of the integrable boundary value problem for the two-dimensional Toda lattice using the inverse scattering method. We interpret the integrability property in terms of the corresponding linear problem, the Gel’fand-Levitan-Marchenko equation, and the dressing procedure. The simplest initial solutions of the boundary value problem become new nontrivial solutions after the dressing procedure is applied.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a heat equation with nonlinear boundary condition occurring in population genetics, the selection–migration problem for alleles in a region, considering flow of genes throughout the boundary. Such a problem determines a gradient flow in a convenient phase space and then the dynamics for large times depends heavily on the knowledge of the equilibrium solutions. In this paper we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to multipoint boundary value problems for nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We consider the case where the solution space of the associated linear homogeneous boundary value problem is less than 2. When this solution space is trivial, we establish existence results via the Schauder Fixed Point Theorem. In the resonance case, we use a projection scheme to provide criteria for the solvability of our nonlinear boundary value problem. We accomplish this by analyzing a link between the behavior of the nonlinearity and the solution set of the associated linear homogeneous boundary value problem.  相似文献

An initial boundary value problem for a quasilinear equation of pseudoparabolic type with a nonlinear boundary condition of the Neumann–Dirichlet type is investigated in this work. From a physical point of view, the initial boundary value problem considered here is a mathematical model of quasistationary processes in semiconductors and magnets, which takes into account a wide variety of physical factors. Many approximate methods are suitable for finding eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in problems where the boundary conditions are linear with respect to the desired function and its derivatives. Among these methods, the Galerkin method leads to the simplest calculations. On the basis of a priori estimates, we prove a local existence theorem and uniqueness for a weak generalized solution of the initial boundary value problem for the quasilinear pseudoparabolic equation. A special place in the theory of nonlinear equations is occupied by the study of unbounded solutions, or, as they are called in another way, blow-up regimes. Nonlinear evolutionary problems admitting unbounded solutions are globally unsolvable. In the article, sufficient conditions for the blow-up of a solution in a finite time in a limited area with a nonlinear Neumann–Dirichlet boundary condition are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, we give a rigorous mathematical analysis for a third order nonlinear boundary value problem. The boundary value problem can be applied to steady free convection around a vertical impermeable flat plate in a fluid-saturated porous medium, or steady flow of a power-law fluid induced by impermeable stretching walls in the frame of boundary layer approximation. We establish the uniqueness, existence and nonexistence of (normal) concave solutions or generalized concave solutions to the problem, and obtain some results about boundedness and asymptotic behavior of the (normal) concave solution or the generalized concave solution.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the existence of unbounded positive solutions for a second-order nonlinear three-point boundary value problem on the positive half-line. The interesting points of the results are that the nonlinearity depends on the solution and its derivative and may change sign. Moreover, it satisfies general polynomial growth conditions. In this paper we study boundary value problems for semilinear equations involving strongly degenerate elliptic differential operators. Via a Pohozaev??s type identity we show that if the nonlinear term grows faster than some power function then the boundary value problem has no nontrivial solution. Otherwise when the nonlinear term grows slower than the same power function, by establishing embedding theorems for weighted Sobolev spaces associated with the strongly degenerate elliptic equations, then applying the theory of critical values in Banach spaces, we prove that the problem has a nontrivial solution, or even infinite number of solutions provided that the nonlinear term is an odd function.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions for the fourth-order two point boundary value problems. Making use of the theory of fixed point index in cone and Leray-Schauder degree, under general conditions on nonlinearity, we prove that there exist at least six different nontrivial solutions for the fourth-order two point boundary value problems. Furthermore, if the nonlinearity is odd, we obtain that there exist at least eight different nontrivial solutions.  相似文献
