In this paper, we consider some generalization of maximally movable spaces of Finsler type. Among them, there are locally conic spaces (Riemannian metrics of their tangent spaces are realized on circular cones) and generalized Lagrange spaces with Tamm metrics (their tangent Riemannian spaces admit all rotations). On the tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold, we study a special class of almost product metrics, generated Tamm metric. This class contains Sasaki metric and Cheeger–Gromol metric. We determine the position of this class in the Naveira classification of Riemannian almost product metrics.  相似文献

We study a class of Riemannian almost product metrics on the tangent bundle of a smooth manifold. This class includes the Sasaki and Cheeger-Gromoll metrics as special cases. For this class of metrics, we find the dependence of the scalar curvature of the tangent bundle on objects of the base manifold. For the case in which the base manifold is a space of constant sectional curvature, we obtain conditions on the metric and the dimension of the base under which the scalar curvature of the tangent bundle is constant. For special cases of metrics of the class considered, we find the intervals on which the scalar curvature of the tangent bundle treated as a function of the sectional curvature of the base has constant sign.  相似文献

We characterize two-point homogeneous spaces, locally symmetric spaces, C and B-spaces via properties of the standard contact metric structure of their unit tangent sphere bundle. Further, under various conditions on a Riemannian manifold, we show that its unit tangent sphere bundle is a (locally) homogeneous contact metric space if and only if the manifold itself is (locally) isometric to a two-point homogeneous space.  相似文献

Summary In this paper we consider Riemannian metrics without conjugate points on an n-torus. Recent work of J. Heber established that the gradient vector fields of Busemann functions on the universal cover of such a manifold induce a natural foliation (akin to the weak stable foliation for a Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature) on the unit tangent bundle. The main result in the paper is that the metric is flat if this foliation is Lipschitz. We also prove that this foliation is Lipschitz if and only if the metric has bounded asymptotes. This confirms a conjecture of E. Hopf in this case.Oblatum 22-IX-1993 & 25-IV-1994Supported in part by NSF grant #DMS90-01707 and #DMS85-05550 while at MSRISupported by an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship  相似文献

In this paper we study a Riemannian metric on the tangent bundle T(M) of a Riemannian manifold M which generalizes Sasaki metric and Cheeger–Gromoll metric and a compatible almost complex structure which confers a structure of locally conformal almost K?hlerian manifold to T(M) together with the metric. This is the natural generalization of the well known almost K?hlerian structure on T(M). We found conditions under which T(M) is almost K?hlerian, locally conformal K?hlerian or K?hlerian or when T(M) has constant sectional curvature or constant scalar curvature. Then we will restrict to the unit tangent bundle and we find an isometry with the tangent sphere bundle (not necessary unitary) endowed with the restriction of the Sasaki metric from T(M). Moreover, we found that this map preserves also the natural contact structures obtained from the almost Hermitian ambient structures on the unit tangent bundle and the tangent sphere bundle, respectively. In the present work we prove that one of Barbilian?s theorems from 1960 regarding the metrization procedure in the plane admits a natural extension depending on a bilinear form and the relative position of two Apollonian hyperspheres. This result allows us to pursue two fundamental ideas. First, that all the distances with constant curvature can be described by Barbilian?s metrization principle. Secondly, that all the Riemannian metric corresponding to these distances can be obtained with the same unique procedure derived from the main theorem in the text (Theorem 2.5). We show how the hyperbolic metric of the disk, the hyperbolic metric on the exterior of the disk and the hyperbolic metric on the half-plane can be obtained in the same way using Theorem 2.5, which appears here for the first time and is an extension of a Barbilian classical result (Barbilian, 1960 [7]). Furthermore, we obtain metrics corresponding to quadratic forms with signature that includes minus. By considering the norms provided by either Lorentz or Minkowski (pseudo-)inner product as influence functions, two oscillant distances can be generated in some subsets of Lorentz or Minkowski plane. The extension of 1960 Barbilian?s theorem mentioned above allow us to obtain the metrics attached to these two Barbilian distances on corresponding subsets of Lorentz and Minkowski 2-dimensional spaces. The geometric study concludes that these metrics are generalized Lagrange metrics. A result concerning the distance induced by a Riemannian metric as a local Barbilian distance is also proved.  相似文献

Let M be an n-dimensional Riemannian manifold and TM its tangent bundle. The conformal and fiber preserving vector fields on TM have well-known physical interpretations and have been studied by physicists and geometers using some Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian lift metrics on TM. Here we consider the Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian lift metric G on TM which is in some senses more general than other lift metrics previously defined on TM, and seems to complete these works. Next we study the lift conformal vector fields on (TM,G).  相似文献

Using the heat kernel, we derive first a local Gauss–Bonnet–Chern theorem for manifolds with a non-product metric near the boundary. Then we establish an anomaly formula for Ray–Singer metrics defined by a Hermitian metric on a flat vector bundle over a Riemannian manifold with boundary, not assuming that the Hermitian metric on the flat vector bundle is flat nor that the Riemannian metric has product structure near the boundary. A contact metric manifold is said to be H-contact, if its characteristic vector field is harmonic. We prove that the unit tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold M equipped with the standard contact metric structure is H-contact if and only if M is 2-stein.  相似文献

A unit vector field X on a Riemannian manifold determines a submanifold in the unit tangent bundle. The volume of X is the volume of this submanifold for the induced Sasaki metric. It is known that the parallel fields are the trivial minima. In this paper, we obtain a lower bound for the volume in terms of the integrals of the 2i-symmetric functions of the second fundamental form of the orthogonal distribution to the field X. In the spheres ${\textbf {S}}^{2k+1}$, this lower bound is independent of X. Consequently, the volume of a unit vector field on an odd-sphere is always greater than the volume of the radial field. The main theorem on volumes is applied also to hyperbolic compact spaces, giving a non-trivial lower bound of the volume of unit fields.  相似文献

The ‘traditional’ curve-straightening flow is based on one of the standard Sobolev inner products and it is known to break certain symmetries of reflection. The purpose of this paper is to show that there are alternative Riemannian structures on the space of curves that yield flows that preserve symmetries. This feature comes at a price. In one symmetrizing metric the gradient vector fields are considerably more demanding to compute. In another symmetrizing metric smoothness is lost. This investigation will also explain the phenomena of ‘spinning’ as observed in several examples in the traditional flow. Three classes of alternative Riemannian structures are examined. The first class includes the traditional metric as a special case and is shown to never preserve both rotation symmetries and symmetries of reflection. The second class consists of a single metric corresponding to one of the standard Sobolev metrics, and is shown to preserve both types of symmetries. The third class also includes the traditional metric but it is shown that there is a unique different metric in this class, which preserves both types of symmetries. This particular metric generally yields smooth vector fields, which when evaluated at a smooth function do not give a smooth element of the corresponding tangent space. The third class is nevertheless ‘preferred’ since it has the distinction that it ‘respects’ the projection induced by the derivative operator onto the tangent bundle of the space of derivatives. The paper concludes with a number of graphical illustrations that show preserved symmetry and removal of spinning.  相似文献

Let Ψ be the geodesic flow associated with a two-sided invariant metric on a compact Lie group. In this paper, we prove that every ergodic measure μ of Ψ is supported on the unit tangent bundle of a flat torus. As an application, all Lyapunov exponents of μ are zero hence μ is not hyperbolic. Our underlying manifolds have nonnegative curvature (possibly strictly positive on some sections), whereas in contrast, all geodesic flows related to negative curvature are Anosov hence every ergodic measure is hyperbolic.  相似文献

The purpose of the present article is to investigate some relations between the Lie algebra of the infinitesimal fibre-preserving conformal transformations of the tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold with respect to the synectic lift of the metric tensor and the Lie algebra of infinitesimal projective transformations of the Riemannian manifold itself.  相似文献

The geometry of the tangent bundle is used to define a particular class of metrics called adapted bi-conformal. These metrics are defined and studied on the holomorphic cotangent bundle of a Kähler manifold. Kählerian adapted bi-conformal metrics are totally classified and their curvature expressed. The Eguchi-Hanson metric appears as a particular example.  相似文献

A vector field X on a Riemannian manifold determines a submanifold in the tangent bundle. The volume of X is the volume of this submanifold for the induced Sasaki metric. When M is compact, the volume is well defined and, usually, this functional is studied for unit fields. Parallel vector fields are trivial minima of this functional. For manifolds of dimension 5, we obtain an explicit result showing how the topology of a vector field with constant length influences its volume. We apply this result to the case of vector fields that define Riemannian foliations with all leaves compact.Received: 29 April 2004  相似文献
